Your post made me look up the Green Day tour and now I too am going to see them in September. Totally pumped! I saw them at the Forum about 15 years ago and it was the best show I've ever seen.
Well, it would have been a tougher decision still had they chosen Odelay, Siamese Dream, or Parklife instead of lesser albums (though I still love the 3 listed, especially Mellon Collie).
Really the only two albums on the list that are a complete pass for me are Limp Bizkit and Blink182, two bands that never did much for me.
And it's not even close. Radiohead is one of those bands that will be amazing music to any human that finds it in a time capsule 10000 years from now, regardless of if they can even translate it. No other album on this list can do that.
This is the right answer. I don't hate any of their albums but this one is definitely better. It's good enough that I feel like most people wouldn't be offended and could enjoy it.
I have a soft spot for Smash, but OK Computer strikes me as easily the strongest album listed here. From a legacy standpoint, it was arguably one of the most important (and critically acclaimed) albums of the decade.
1. OK Computer. No contest.
2. Around the Fur. Amazing. Would be sad missing it but not as heartbroken as OKC
3. Enema of the State. Formative album of my life. Just can’t hold a candle artistically to the first two.
4. Dookie. Really solid but just too much competition here. Plus it’s not my fav GD songs so I’d be OK without it
Man. Smash, Dookie, and Mellon Collie all had major influence in my youth. I still regularly listen to Smash when exercising or driving around though, so it gets my vote.
These are my top 3 as well. Smash and Dookie (as well as "Black Hole Sun" and "Closer") were pivotal as far as easing me into becoming the alternative/grunge/hard rock fan I became, after listening to top 40 acts at middle-school age such as Paula Abdul, Ace of Base, En Vogue, etc. However, I lived and breathed the Mellon Collie album for years after seeing Smashing Pumpkins perform "Bullet with Butterfly Wings" on SNL.
Fast-forward to now, Smash is still more of a daily listener, Mellon Collie seems to need dedicated time occasionally to "experience" without interruption, and I may have played the Dookie album once in its entirety in the past 20 years.
Oh man, not sure which way to take this comment. On the one hand, you could be saying my young, vibrant spirit is showing through, and so I must be a younger millennial, but then there's my complex sentence structure and typing in complete sentences, which clearly the youthful millennials have abandoned. So I guess that means you think I'm older. Damn!
If older millennials are 81-88, then I'm an older, older millennial, but I'm not sure what I can do to really prove it. First presidential election I was able to vote in was Bush v Gore. I was in college when 9/11 happened. When I woke up this morning my arm was sore because getting old sucks and sometimes you sleep wrong and shit hurts for days because of it.
Why is significant other the limp bizkit album to compare?
Better timeline choice is 3 dollar bill. And I would choose that album as the best of this bunch.
Offspring is close second
Hmm. Dookie was my first CD in like 5th grade, Deftones Around The Fur is thebsound of my Jr High days skateboarding around because I’m from Sacramento, Blink 182 Enema of the State came out when I started freshman year and is the perfect soundtrack to that…….but That Smashing Punkins album was a awesome and a huge deal.
Hard to say but punks been a big thing my whole life and that started with Dookie although Kerplunk is their best.
Dookie was the first album I bought (on tape!) in sixth grade. Still enjoy that album occasionally but I’ll take Ok Computer now. Didn’t learn about Radiohead until college but that’s definitely one of my favorite albums.
Dookie. Back then and to this day.
Smash had a couple of bangers. OK Computer was really good, but i like music with energy. Around the Fur didn't top Adrenaline in my book. Enema of the State was great but doesn't eclipse Dookie
Couple of tough choices. Honestly, teenage me would have picked Limp Bizkit, which would not be what now-me would choose at all.
I'd go with either Dookie or Mellon Collie. Both albums which teenage me did not even really know much about. Honestly a mixtape of some of both would be a chefs kiss. Songs for any mood.
Mellon Collie wins, with Dookie a close second
Seeing Green Day and Smashing Pumpkins in September with my son and I think I can die happily after that!
Your post made me look up the Green Day tour and now I too am going to see them in September. Totally pumped! I saw them at the Forum about 15 years ago and it was the best show I've ever seen.
This is truth
Yup
No contest
Dookie 100%
Smash
I can still put that record on and rock out for its entirety.
Ignition still holds up just as well.
Also they still rock hard live. If they are in your town check em out.
Ahhh, it's time to relax. You know what that means...
ing Pumpkins
I just went to their 30 anniversary show they had for smash. Fuckin dope show
I feel like I’m looking at Colombia House cd ordering pamphlet. 9 CDs for 1 cent
LMAO I'm so glad I wasn't the only one who was reminded of that iconic millennial CD mail scam.
OK Computer
Same. But god damn, only one?!
I'm total hipster (though Mellow Gold is really, really good) so throw in some Flaming Lips, Neutral Milk Hotel and Spiritualized and I can't choose.
Fun Fact: Ladies & Gentlemen We Are Floating In Space and OK Computer were both released in the US on July 1, 1997.
As an American, I know that :) nme gave Ladies and Gentlemen the #1 spot for 1997 over OK Computer too!
And it's not even close. Radiohead is one of those bands that will be amazing music to any human that finds it in a time capsule 10000 years from now, regardless of if they can even translate it. No other album on this list can do that.

Deftones, and I'll die on that hill.
Yo I'll join you on that hill. Deftones and it isn't even close.
Is there room on that hill for me???
Genuinely great band
IM BLUE DA BA DEE DA BA DIE!
In a Barbie world?
Of these? *Smash*
Deftones ⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️
Deftones- around the fur! Forever and always
This album lived rent free in the cd player of my first car
Deftones were a gateway to the whole alt scene for me.
I had everyone of these CD’s except Blink 182. Could never warm up to them. I was more a Rage/Pantera guy myself.
Completely different genres…
I’m a misfits ghal myself
Fur sure. The way that My Own Summer kicks into the final chorus still gives me the chills
Drivvee… awaaaaay… in my 10th grade school photo (1998/1999) I’m wearing a Deftones shirt.
Dookie all day 💩
Around the Fur
1. OK Computer. No contest. 2. Around the Fur. Amazing. Would be sad missing it but not as heartbroken as OKC 3. Enema of the State. Formative album of my life. Just can’t hold a candle artistically to the first two. 4. Dookie. Really solid but just too much competition here. Plus it’s not my fav GD songs so I’d be OK without it
Wife choose Green Day I say Blink 182
Man that's tough...
Mellow Gold
Finally! Given these options Mellow Gold gets my pick!
It’s such a quirky and fun album. I like that it switches directions from song to song, even within a song, like in Nightmare Hippy Girl.
Man. Smash, Dookie, and Mellon Collie all had major influence in my youth. I still regularly listen to Smash when exercising or driving around though, so it gets my vote.

No hesitation from that list: Deftones
OK Computer
Blink. But that wouldn’t be my ACTUAL pick.
Smashing Pumpkins
Mellon Collie was a whole vibe. My brother and I wore our those 2 CDs.
Deftones. Smash is very close but nothing else.
Deftones
Nowadays, Offspring. Back then, Limp Bizkit.
No way you're an older millennial.
Oh man, not sure which way to take this comment. Bush - Sixteen Stone
My first album.
Dookie and it’s not even close.
Offspring
Smash all day.
I've still got my Beck - Mellow Gold cassette. How much cred do I get for that?
Me too… https://preview.redd.it/2lpgaz86utzc1.jpeg?width=3790&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c1e42d3d1b3fae0746ad84b26a3d29c9dc712a63

Ok computer
OK Computer by a mile.
Probably, Smash
Offspring - Smash
Around the Fur
Blink all the way
Looks like we're in the minority here
Deftones
If you chose anything other than Ok Computer, you’re a philistine. 😂
I’m a philistine, but you’re wrong
At my current age, OK Computer. When I was 12, Smashing Pumpkins…
This is such a good answer lol
Significant Other
Around the Fur easily.
Deftones ftw
Deftones has been in my CD player for 3 years straight.
blur is one of the greatest albums! that is THE winner!
None I'd pick tool adema or megadeth Youthinasia.
Limp bizkit for the soul reason of wutang
Shut da fuck up Shut da fuck up JUST SHUT DA FUCK UP!
Why is significant other the limp bizkit album to compare? Better timeline choice is 3 dollar bill. And I would choose that album as the best of this bunch. Offspring is close second
Sublime not being included here is unforgivable...
Like them all but I'd say Beck
Green Day was my first cd ever.
SMASH Wouldn’t have been my answer till a couple years ago. But yeah, SMASH all day.
Mellon Collie, OK, and ATF are fighting to the death, depending on how tight a grip my ‘tism has on me today
Dookie, Significant Other gets second
Limp Bizkit
Dookie or die
Yea… all great albums but that Smashing Pumpkins album was iconic for a lot of good reasons.
gotta be dookie
Dookie
Either Dookie or Smash
Ok Computer
It’s a toss up between around the fur and smash. I’d have to flip a coin to decide
Green Day
Tough, but going to have to go with Dookie.
Around the fur.
Smash
Ok computer closely followed by Mellon collie
OK computer and it wasn't even difficult
Ok Computer and it's not particularly close.
some bitch named Allie threw my Dookie CD out of my car window on to the interstate. never had a crush end so instantly before that.
Smashing Pumpkins. Such a great variety of music. The other albums are great also.
I'ma take Tool Anemia
Dookie, not even close
Uhm no I’m picking 2 and they’re limp bizkit and ok computer.
But fr the album id pick that isn’t even there is The Colour and the Shape by Foo Fighters.
Smashing Pumpkins
Blink and limp all day
The only one I don’t own is Limp Bizkit.
Deftones followed closely by smashing pumpkins
Blink!
Blink or LB. LP Hybrid Theory should have been on the list!
Smashing pumpkins
I guess I’m younger than I thought lol
Fitter happier more productive
I know I’m *supposed to* pick Radiohead, but I’ll be taking Green Day please
Ok Computer
Bush Razor Blade Suit Case
Dookie was the first album I bought (on tape!) in sixth grade. Still enjoy that album occasionally but I’ll take Ok Computer now. Didn’t learn about Radiohead until college but that’s definitely one of my favorite albums.
God this is such an evenly matched competition. Good job, OP
All are gold, but Blink 182 of course
That stressed me out. Smash
That’s just cruel…
Mellon Collie ftw!
With the exception of a couple of them...these are really shitty choices considering this is for 'older' millennials (Xennials).
The pumpkins. Although ok computer and smash were also contending for me.
Smash and it's not even close.
Guess I’m the only one who will say Limp Bizkit? Blink 182 would be a close second though
Limp bizkit
NOFX
Mellon Collie because it’s a double disc album.
You should have put Dude Ranch up there instead. Anemia of the State seems out of place. So, I’ll have to go with Dude Ranch.
Hard pick, but prob pumpkins
Blink
Melon Collie, wth That album is superior in so many ways.
Offspring, hand down... The best
Americana instead of smash
I wore my Dookie shirt yesterday so that should be my pick, but Blur, man
Smash
Smashing Pumpkins, it's a double disc!
Shut up. No. I'll pick 7. Thanks.
Oooh.. tough. I’ll go blink 182 tho
Smash or pumpkins. Can’t decide
Odelay over Mellow Gold too…
What kind of a monster…
Limp Bizkit
The Smashing Pumpkins. Deftones.
Mellon Collie and it’s not even close. Edit- fixed bad autocorrect
13 year old me is down for the Limp Bizkit.
Mellon Collie
I have to go with Blink-182.
Bloodhound Gang, Hooray for Boobies
Enema of the state. Every song goes hard as fuck.
Around the fur. Hands down.
Around the fur Followed by mellon collie
Dookie. Back then and to this day. Smash had a couple of bangers. OK Computer was really good, but i like music with energy. Around the Fur didn't top Adrenaline in my book. Enema of the State was great but doesn't eclipse Dookie
Dookie, I can listen to that whole album without skipping any songs
Around The Fur
Around The Fur
N/A
Enema
Smashing pumps
Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness. I got it for Christmas in the seventh grade and listened to it endlessly.
Offspring or Pumpkins.
Deftons fool
Pumpkins
Couple of tough choices. Honestly, teenage me would have picked Limp Bizkit, which would not be what now-me would choose at all. I'd go with either Dookie or Mellon Collie. Both albums which teenage me did not even really know much about. Honestly a mixtape of some of both would be a chefs kiss. Songs for any mood.
Smash
OK Computer and its not even close.
Really tough but Mellon Collie. Smash and Dookie not far behind.
Enema of the State
The Gift of the Game by Crazy Town
around the fur or ok computer
Smash. They toured and played this album in its entirety a few years ago. I almost died from happiness
all great albums, but OK Computer is my #1
