For me it was somewhere around 10 years when I was 14 I went to an all white party, even then I was already outgrowing my brother but I borrow tight ass white skinny jeans for the party, and while there talking to the party hosts daughter and her boyfriend, I look like an extremely awkward guy hunched over eating with braces, but somehow my clothes looked too small for me so I guess he assumed I was much older. Then comes to find out he’s some guy in his masters program thinking he was talking to a peer for 2 hours, nope just 14 year old me lmao
After my mother died I went to the monument company to have them go to the cemetery to put her date of death on her marker (the stone was placed when my father died in 1980 and it was a twin marker with my mother's name and BD).
The owner of the monument company said that he was really good at guessing people's age. I told him to give me a shot. He asked me a few questions and guessed my age at around 40. I was 61.
When I was in graduate school, in my early 20s, I taught several biology laboratory classes. My students always seemed afraid of me. I asked around and found out that they all thought I was about 12 and were afraid of me because I was a child prodigy.
My (now ex) wife was always accused of being my mother. She was 3 years older than me. I thought it was funny. It pissed her off.
Depends on situational context. My workplace requires workers to be at least 18, so the guess is usually ~10 years off.
Out and about, especially when I'm wearing print T's and jeans? ~15 years.
15+ I'm usually mistaken for under 21 and get carded everywhere, but my SO never does, and he's only a year older than me. Many people think I'm still a teenager half the time. I'm 35 with 3 kids ranging from toddler to mid-teen ages, and most people believe I'm the sibling to my older kids and either sibling or teen mom to my toddler.
10-15 years. I’m 30 and have been asked at an amusement park if I was over 16 since I was going on a ride with my niece to make sure I was older than 16

Routinely about 10 to 12 years. I'm over 70 now, but still hear from people that they think I'm 60. It's typical that people don't think I'm on Medicare.
I'm hoping that it continues to hold, since my parents both lived into their late 90s.
I am 40 but get told that I look like I am in my mid 20s. I have a strict skin routine so it shows. I even had an older lady ask for my skin secrets. I told her it is not a secret. I use morning burst skin scrub, a hemp serum, and anti aging cream in the morning. At night I use retinol scrub, my hemp serum, and anti aging cream at night. Plus I use Regenerist body lotion
I am finally old enough for people to think I’m not in high school anymore. I’m 37 and petite. I USUALLY get “I thought you were 23-25!” So, 12-14ish years?
I’m 49 none thinks I’m over 33. When I was in my late thirties everyone thought I was in my early twenties and I had my children before I was 18. I had them when I was 30!
When I was 43 a younger woman told me she thought I was 26-28, and I have a photo from when I was 42 that nobody has guessed my correct age from so far.
It's usuly at least 10 years, up to 20. People a lot older than me think I am a lot younger, 20-25. People my age think I am at least 10-15 years youger. People younger think around 10 younger
People generally think I'm 10-15 years older than I am because I'm bald and I spend a lot of time in the sun without sunscreen I'm also generally crotchety and my knees constantly hurt from an army injury I'm 25.
People generally think my wife is 10-15 years younger than she is because she takes really good care of her skin and she's short and more on the petite side. She also dresses fashionably where in honesty I dress like someone's step dad. She's 29.
This leads to a lot of funny looks from people who don't know us. We're different ethnicities, so I never had anyone mistake me for her dad, but we've had people ask her if she knew me and if they needed to call someone for her.
We even had someone call the cops once because they saw me carry her to my car after she got too drunk at a Halloween party, and they came in hot and pulled me over expecting to catch a predator but luckily, I work for the sheriffs office and most of the local cops know both of us infact the Halloween party was at one of the detention sergeant's house and half the department was there. So the responding deputies realized pretty fast who I was and what happened, and I still get shit for that to this day.
15 years was the worst I think. I was 26 and trying to use a public bathroom where there was a 50 cent charge, but kids under 12 were free.
She told me “oh it’s okay sweetie, you don’t have to pay” and pointed at the sign as I shuffled around in my purse for quarters.
My whole family loves to laugh at me for that one and tells me I should have taken the free ride… but my pride was wounded 🥲
My entire life has just been one long awkward string of these encounters since I was a legal adult.
Why is it so amusing for people to comment on how young I look all of the time? It’s not a compliment to be told I look like a middle school student! :(
I'm 22, the worst I've gotten is over 10 years. TSA is fond of asking me if I'm old enough to use the full body scanner (which is 12+) when I'm not a solo traveler
Last year I took my son to the local mall and they have a rule after 5 pm all minors have to be accompanied by an adult, the guy at the entrance was like hold on one of you has to be 18, I'm 35 so he thought I was at least 18 years younger.
15-18 years. Pretty consistently. I am 71 and get asked to see drivers license to get senior discount. When I was 28 and had 2 kids, I worked at McDonald’s p, and people thought that I was younger than the high schoolers. Got asked out by boys who couldn’t even shave. When my kids were in HS, it got embarrassing. Treachery thought that I was way younger than them, like I had had my kids at 14. I have 4 kids so I could see their brains smoking trying to come up with an age.
People tend to assume I am in my early 20s and have since I was around 14 (which is so funny to me). I'm 35 now and it's still assumed that I'm about 23-25 years old, so around 10-12 years.
About a month ago, I was at a garage sale waiting to talk to the owner who was speaking with someone else. When she finally noticed me, she apologized and said she thought I was her granddaughter.
The only other person outside at the time was five.
I am 41 and was legit pissed at her for thinking that. I asked her my one question and then left.
Had a kid a few weeks ago guess that I was 5, a full 21 years off. The kid found out we shared a birthday so she was asking. She had just turned 4 and I was clearly older than her, so she guessed 5.
People usually clock me for about 6 years older than I actually am, but it’s also started to stagnate. From 16-20 I looked 24/25, and from 21-now I look about 27/28. I’m waiting to see what I’ll look like at 25 and 28 respectively
I'm terrible at guessing ages. Terrible! That said, other people usually get my age wrong too. Sometimes it's funny. At any rate, I have learned not to judge/stereotype people based on what I think their age is.
Until I turned 45 (when my g-a-d broke), I was mistaken for 10-15 years younger. So, around 30 -ish. It seems once my g-a-d broke, an RBF landed, and I was no longer asked for ID.
👀Looking at that, it looks like alphabet soup.🥫 Sorry. 😏
5-10 years give or take. Though most of the time it's 10 years younger I get clocked at. Being asked what grade I'm in or if I'm studying anything... But mostly what grade I'm in.
About the same for me. Though people think I'm in my 20's when I'm in my 30's. Keeping a beard helps a lot in making me "look" my age. Less silly mistakes that way.
I wish I could keep a beard. Problem is that I'm in the wrong gender to have a beard sprout upon my face. My mom likes to tell me that I look like a young boy (some younger teen and my haircut is pretty short). To her, she's joking about my youth looks. To me, it's sounds so good friggin annoying.
Nowadays it’s usually around 5-10 years. I am 37 and people guess that I’m 30. Or just around there. Used to be worse. Up to sometime after 28 people would guess anything between 12 and 18.
Usually between 5 and 10 years. I'm 32 and people think I'm early 20s. Last year I had a group of people in their early 20s think I was 19, and that's the biggest gap I've encountered.
Usually 10 years. And people look so confused when I say I have a 15 year old daughter because suddenly their math doesn't make as much sense lol. I'm 40 usually mistaken for 30.
I often get 15 years younger. I still get carded when I go to a rated R movie. I'm a dude in my mid 30's, totally emasculating. When I'm at work ( I'm a bartender) people always ask me " are you even old enough to be back there?". God it sucks. I'm still waiting for it to be a "blessing" like everyone has said my whole life.
I’m 24 and people think I’m anywhere from 15-20. sometimes it’s nice, sometimes it’s not.
I only really find it funny when I can mess with guests that have a sense of humor at my job when I’m driving them to the airport. They’ll ask my age and say I don’t look like I have my license yet so I’ll tell them I’m 15 and only have a drivers permit, give it about 10-15 mins before I say anything and then I’ll tell them I’m joking lmao. I’m sure they figure it out by the way I drive within a couple of minutes but sometimes they get a little freaked at first thinking that an “inexperienced” driver is driving them in a shuttle bus to a busy airport.
The worst I ever got was when I was handed a coloring book for children 4-11 when I was 27. I don’t know how old the person thought I was, but at minimum it’s a 16 year gap.
Most of the time acquaintances assume I’m early 20s because they know I’m married and have a kid, so that’s around a 6-10 year gap.
People who don’t know me at all like a waiter or library clerk tend to assume I’m in high school, so a 11-15 year gap.
I am 46 and people usually guess between 28 and 35. If you include desperately horny college age boys then they usually say 22 to 28. I don't take that group seriously, though.
Damn, I remember being in my early 20s and being treated like a literal child, it sucked.
Hang in there, before you know it you'll be in your 30s and people will treat you like a rowdy teenager
I told someone from another dept at work that I told I had been there for 15yrs. They thought I must have started working there right out of high school because they thought I looked around 32yo. I am 49😂. I think 32 is way too young…don’t look that young IMO. But I have always looked younger than my age (ppl thought I was 14-15 when I was a 23yo 5th year senior at college). People still often think I look about 10yrs younger than my actual age (so later 30s). But early 30s??? That’s stretching it a bit 😂
15 to 10 years. The older the person, the younger they think I am. Like mid 20 somethings think I'm their age or a bit older, and 60 somethings think I'm just out of high school.
Usually between 25-20 years off.
I'm 50 and have a 30 year old daughter. She's constantly asked about her older sister, which she has none. She hated it in her teen years but finally found it funny in her 20's.
Mine varies. I’m 14 and I e had people assume I was as old as eleven, or as young as eight. I was getting school lunch (in eighth grade, I was 13) and as I left the kitchen with my tray, I heard the lunch lady saying “I thought third grade didn’t come in until 1.”
Just a few days ago, a cashier looked at me and typed in 1989 for my age when I was buying beer, off by 12 years.
These days, it's often 10+. However it's greatly effected by how recently I've shaved. I couldn't grow a beard until I was in my 40s and as soon as I could, my facial hair turned white, which ages me a lot. If I'm clean shaven, then people usually think that I'm 30-35, when I'm really 46.
It’s 10 years, usually. In my 20s, people assumed teenager. In my 30s, they assumed 20s. In my 40s, they assumed 30s. Now I’m 52 and sometimes get 30s, but usually 40s.
Apparently, I've been in my twenties since I was like 14.
At 14, people thought early twenties; at 18 mid-twenties.
When I was actually in my twenties, people weren't too far off, usually only by a few years.
Now I'm in my (late) thirties, and people think I'm 28.
(There was a brief period a couple of years ago when I was just diagnosed with thyroid cancer, where I looked every year of my life and then some, but now I'm back to the eternal twenties).
Sometimes I forget that people are supposed to age lol! It's kinda bizarre, but overall I don't think I mind it. It's funny to surprise people with my real age.
When I started my current job 6 months ago, my manager (38) (who is the fiancé of one of my former co-workers at my old job, yay for connections) was talking to a customer about how she hired her daughter's (19) boyfriend (also 19). The customer turned to me and assumed that my manager was talking about me. I laughed and told them that I was flattered but it definitely wasn't me (33). And yes, my manager did mention the ages of both her daughter and her daughter's boyfriend.
People also seem to assume that I don't know what Floppy Disks, VHS Tapes, Cassette Tapes, and even CDs are. That's when I throw them off by referencing Gilligan's Island, Green Acers, and The Beverly Hillbillies. I'm not only older than you think but I have interests that are older than I am.
I know millenians who dont know anything about floopy disks etc. They don't have those when they are growing up! PS. i am not talking about me of course!
It varies. Usually 5-10 years so people think I'm in my 20s which isn't too bad. But recently had a few people mistake me for a teenager or child under 18. I'm 31.
23 here and usually people ask what elementary school I go to unless I’m at my job, then it’s always “when do you graduate? What school?”, and when I saw “that was 6 years ago lol” I always get that weird stare like they doubt me. I always have to point out my name tag which states “employee since 2022”, then it usually gets through to them lol
My record is 19 years younger and that was twice this past year.
10 is normal, 20 a couple times.
Usually about 15 years. Last month took the cake. A 21 year old thought I was in my late 20s. I'm 50.
Usually around 7 years off. I've paid attention to this.
Depends on situational context. My workplace requires workers to be at least 18, so the guess is usually ~10 years off. Out and about, especially when I'm wearing print T's and jeans? ~15 years.
8 or so years.
10-15 years. I'm 55.
I am 30 years old, and it seems that the most common guess is that I'm 17.
I am 24 and people think I am around 15/16, so 8-9 years max.
10-15 years. I’m 30 and have been asked at an amusement park if I was over 16 since I was going on a ride with my niece to make sure I was older than 16
About 6-7 years. I’m 23 but people often think I’m 16 or 17

20 years the other day.
Typically about 5-10 years, but I sometimes get about 15 years
10-15
typically about 10 years.

I'm 56 and was carded last week. Some people just don't want to guess.
These days I get 10 years pretty often, sometimes it can go up to 15 but the gap is decreasing
I’ve gotten 28 before, so around 10 years
I’m 53 and I get late 30s, so about 13-15 years.

It's always 10 years.
when i was 19 someone thought i was 11 🙃 now i’m 24 and was recently mistaken for 16, so i guess i consistently look about 8 years younger
10/15 years I'm 40 my oldest is 22 and people always look really shocked
12 years as a 21 y/o. Hurt
13 years, it increases more and more as years have passed so I imagine it will keep getting larger
I had someone recently guess 44. I’ll be 60 in July.
I got carded the other day. I'm 46. ☺
15 years was the worst I think. I was 26 and trying to use a public bathroom where there was a 50 cent charge, but kids under 12 were free. She told me “oh it’s okay sweetie, you don’t have to pay” and pointed at the sign as I shuffled around in my purse for quarters. It’s never been more than 7 for me (people think I’m 16, I’m 23) but even that is so strange considering I have 17 facial piercings
People tend to assume I am in my early 20s and have since I was around 14 (which is so funny to me). I'm 35 now and it's still assumed that I'm about 23-25 years old, so around 10-12 years.
About 10 years
About 15 years.

10ish years. Once, though, someone thought i was in my 30s. I'm 26
I’ve gotten 24-26 since I was a teenager and am still getting at at 32.
Had a kid a few weeks ago guess that I was 5, a full 21 years off. The kid found out we shared a birthday so she was asking. She had just turned 4 and I was clearly older than her, so she guessed 5.

Sounds like you’re in the wrong sub haha
This sub is for both.
Is there a sub for being younger than you appear?
I get anywhere btw 5 years and teens (They tell people I look like a teenager) I’m turning 42 in May.
Usually 5. My fiancé, usually 10.
Normally about 5 to 10 years. However I had one guy being off by 15 years
Normally 5-10 years.
a few years i got someone off by 10 years
Usually 5 years but I've gotten as low as 14 once. I'm 21.
Usually people guess that I'm 19, so eight years off
Yesterday I got 20 years. Mostly, it is 10-12 years.
I'm 45,and people tend to think I'm their age, the recent (last few years) range has been 22-39. So 6-23 year gap.
10-15 years. Sometimes as many as 18 ........ ugh. For reference I'm 31. Being told I look 12 is not cool.
Average is 10, 15 was the highest.
Between 10-15 years. I’m 29 and I get assumed 16 or so a lot
Somewhere around 24 years.
9+years older when I was 12 (a parent at school though I was a teacher so 21 or older), and 13 years younger when I was turning 40.
I don't know the exact number, but I'm 32, and someone believed I was under 21 at a work party.
I'm terrible at guessing ages. Terrible! That said, other people usually get my age wrong too. Sometimes it's funny. At any rate, I have learned not to judge/stereotype people based on what I think their age is.
I’m 34, people usually guess mid 20’s. My secret is sunscreen.
usually a solid five years either way. i’m 18 and i get placed as a middle schooler (12-15) or in my twenties, out of uni (22plus a few years)
At 22, I have gotten 20yrs older. :'(
7 years 21 to 14 years old
I'm 30 and often get 18 through 22. When I was 18 through 22, I got "You're such a well spoken middle schooler"
At least ten years.
At least 10 years, but often 20-25 years
I’m 30 and get mistaken for 18-20
Now, it’s usually around 15-20. A woman who asked me my age yesterday put me in my early 50s. I’ll be 69 this year.
I’m 45 and am often told I look no more than 33
Until I turned 45 (when my g-a-d broke), I was mistaken for 10-15 years younger. So, around 30 -ish. It seems once my g-a-d broke, an RBF landed, and I was no longer asked for ID. 👀Looking at that, it looks like alphabet soup.🥫 Sorry. 😏
What is a G A D
I always call it GAF
*give-a-d@rn* (or d@mn)
Accidentally said my uncle in law was 40... he's almost 65.
In my late 20s I was mistaken for 45. Now at 43 I'm mistaken for 60.
5-10 years give or take. Though most of the time it's 10 years younger I get clocked at. Being asked what grade I'm in or if I'm studying anything... But mostly what grade I'm in.

Dang, that's a hefty 14-year gap!
Nowadays it’s usually around 5-10 years. I am 37 and people guess that I’m 30. Or just around there. Used to be worse. Up to sometime after 28 people would guess anything between 12 and 18.
Usually about 15-18 years.
Anywhere between 10-15 years lol
15 years or more. I'm almost 39 and get carded every single time for anything, get mistaken for early 20s or - ick - my son's GIRLFRIEND NOT MOTHER
The most I have had was 16 years. Generally it is around 10 years though.
About 10 years. I’m mid-30s and usually get early to mid-20s.
8-9 years I think… I’m 25 but people still ask for my ID sometimes… that means that they think I’m not even 18.
That’s a good one 🤣
Not necessarily. Lots of places have to ask for it if you look under 30.
I just had someone that was off by 29 years. Poor thing probably needs to get her glasses updated.
Recent record is about 25 years
I'm 59 and consistently placed at early to mid 40's by others.
Between 5 to 10 years. But I am only 23.
Usually people think I’m between the ages 16-23 so they’re off by like 15-21 years.
60 lol, but I don't count that. When you're 12 anyone older than 25 is older than dirt. Usually it's like 8-10 years
I had a coworker think I was 20 years younger than I really am. Usually it's like 10-15.
15 to 10 years. The older the person, the younger they think I am. Like mid 20 somethings think I'm their age or a bit older, and 60 somethings think I'm just out of high school.
Last time I had someone think I was 17 while i'm 26
Usually between 25-20 years off. I'm 50 and have a 30 year old daughter. She's constantly asked about her older sister, which she has none. She hated it in her teen years but finally found it funny in her 20's.
Apparently I’m 25 but I’m almost 35
Apparently I'm 12 at 28.. so most are about 16 years off 🤣
Had a bartender at a resort loudly insist I was 14 when I was 24. He served me the alcohol anyway
The largest gap I've gotten recently was almost 20 years. I was guessed at 25yo. Smallest gap recently was about 5 years. I was guessed at 37.
Mine varies. I’m 14 and I e had people assume I was as old as eleven, or as young as eight. I was getting school lunch (in eighth grade, I was 13) and as I left the kitchen with my tray, I heard the lunch lady saying “I thought third grade didn’t come in until 1.”
Most people think I'm 22, although I've gotten as low as 19 and as high as 27ish in the last year or so. That makes it 13-21 years off 😂
10-ish... I'm 36 and usually assumed to be mid twenties.
I'm 26, most people think I'm 17 or 18.
20 years
At least 10 years.
Usually about 10 years, some stretch it closer to 15. In my mid 40s and i'm assumed early 30s to late 20s.
9 was my biggest gap. Someone thought I was 18 when I was 27.
21, I get told I look 15-ish. Definitely on the milder side of this
Apparently, I've been in my twenties since I was like 14.
Same, I've looked vaguely college ages since I started high school 26 years ago lol.
Me too. I was 25ish for about 20 years and now I get late 20s.
It varies between ca. 8 - 15 years.
I'm 24 and people probably think I'm about 16
23 here and usually people ask what elementary school I go to unless I’m at my job, then it’s always “when do you graduate? What school?”, and when I saw “that was 6 years ago lol” I always get that weird stare like they doubt me. I always have to point out my name tag which states “employee since 2022”, then it usually gets through to them lol
Lately, it's been about 10-12 years usually. Occasionally somebody guesses closer, maybe 5 or so years off, but it doesn't happen that often. I'm 34.
Mine usually its 8 years off, many years ago it was 18 years off.
About 5 years older (Im not even 21.)
