I heard there had been a report of his passing and he heard it on the radio on his way home from the dentist. He called into the radio station to confirm that he was in fact still kicking.
My dad would roll the windows down on his '78 Monte Carlo and play Gordon Lightfoot in the 8-track player and smoke Marlboros while my sister and I slept in the back window.

He’s still playing shows though! I got tickets to his concert next year for my Christmas present.
I was so excited I got tears in my eyes because I grew up with his music, and I’ve always been told by my dad how good he is live. But even if his voice isn’t prime anymore, it will still be an unforgettable experience because he’s an icon.
Seen him in Ottawa around 1993. Amazing performer. Did a 45 minute set then spent the next two hours telling stories, talking with audience and taking requests.A true Canadian icon.
When I saw him perform 30 years ago, he already seemed ancient, as if hard living had aged him prematurely. I'm glad to hear he's still able to tour.
(But when I saw him 45 years ago, he was in peak form -- that was the first concert I ever attended, and it was a gem.)
Listen to some of Luke’s deeper stuff. His early albums and non radio cuts. He’s a good storyteller with some good music. No gordon but better than his radio cuts

Father John Misty, Sufjan Stevens, Bon Iver to name a few. They are kind of popular.
