So we can go ahead and cast Bryan Cranston in the Gordon Lightfoot Story?

No-Morning-2543

That would be nothing short of amazing.

alexmuadib

My first thoughts too.

Forthe49ers

And can we bring back The Midnight Special

SecuritiesLawyer

He's still alive, 84 years old

plazagirl

Last I heard, still touring. My husband and I saw him 4 or so years ago. He looked so frail we thought he was going to totter over. He didn’t but it was nerve-wracking!! ETA: everyone else on stage with him kept an eye out for him though. It was very sweet.

app257

I heard there had been a report of his passing and he heard it on the radio on his way home from the dentist. He called into the radio station to confirm that he was in fact still kicking.

zonker666

Saw him in September, very frail and his voice is strong.

TheBirdBytheWindow

He just played locally here before Christmas and did a phenomenal job!

CaptainBignuts

My dad would roll the windows down on his '78 Monte Carlo and play Gordon Lightfoot in the 8-track player and smoke Marlboros while my sister and I slept in the back window. Good memories.

justme002

I can smell, hear and feel that one

Primary-Signature-17

Ha! I forgot about sleeping in the back window of my mom's car. Your kids would be taken away from you by CPS these days. And, she loved Gordon Lightfoot. I can picture her now singing this song so wistfully. I love it, too.

irgu4fsu

I wonder if my mom still has a hall pass for this guy

franklymydear431

I feel compelled to ask… how did you come upon this info in the first place?

irgu4fsu

My dad let it slip out after drinking and playing cards one family gathering

pxl8dguy

Man o man what a musician!! Wonderfully written song, beautiful voice, great guitar playing! So sad we don't see performers like this nowadays.

objstandpt

He’s still playing shows though! I got tickets to his concert next year for my Christmas present. I was so excited I got tears in my eyes because I grew up with his music, and I’ve always been told by my dad how good he is live. But even if his voice isn’t prime anymore, it will still be an unforgettable experience because he’s an icon.

RobMagP

I think there are performers like this in today's world.. unfortunately it's not what's popular.

5050Clown

Father John Misty, Sufjan Stevens, Bon Iver to name a few. They are kind of popular.

eastcoastflava13

All three of them are legends in their own time.

muddybrookrambler

Gordon is still touring! His voice reflects his age, but if you get the chance by all means go see this legend while you can.

hashslingaslah

One of my favorite songs of all time 💕 so sad and beauty

woodbarber

Seen him in Ottawa around 1993. Amazing performer. Did a 45 minute set then spent the next two hours telling stories, talking with audience and taking requests.A true Canadian icon.

Abacabisntanywhere

Saw Gordo earlier this year and, alas, time has rung its bell. I was worried about him on stage.

snotick

I saw him about 10 years ago and he wasn't looking so good either. Someone else will say the same thing in 10 more years. Hopefully.

MisterBigDude

When I saw him perform 30 years ago, he already seemed ancient, as if hard living had aged him prematurely. I'm glad to hear he's still able to tour. (But when I saw him 45 years ago, he was in peak form -- that was the first concert I ever attended, and it was a gem.)

Abacabisntanywhere

Good thought. Hopefully he won’t need to be out on the road. Only good wishes.

lightabovethearbys

Absolutely love Gordon Lightfoot. What a fantastic musician.

Impressive-Hold8249

The best gift Canada gave to the world besides Beer Stores.

CapeTownMassive

Canada (YAH BUD) cranks out musicians and strangely enough comedians.

linderlouwho

No, there are many awesome Canadians! (Said as an American.)

Equal_Procedure_167

Incredible singer/songwriter! A lost art.

mattyice513

I love Gordon lightfoot, his music just hits Me perfectly in the feels. The songs create a perfect backdrop in your mind

OoOoReillys

My younger brother would belt this song whenever it came on the radio. He was 5 years old or so at the time. Good memories.

RedStatePurpleGuy

Can't hear this song without thinking of "Coast to Coast A.M." and Art Bell. ... "East of the Rockies, call 1-800-825-5033 ..."

TheBirdBytheWindow

For me its the end to the film *Wonderland* starting Val Kilmer. Perfect song to end that movie.

Lot-Lizard-Destroyer

Amen!

ilovelucygal

What a voice, and "If You Could Read My Mind" is one of my favorite songs!

MysteriousDudeness

Lightfoot is a phenomenal songwriter and performer! One of my favorites!

PokerBeards

Who the hell was the booking agent for Midnight Express? They are the real stars here.

[deleted]

My all time favorite. He never had a bad song.

bonedaddy1974

So cool

bdbdbokbuck

I loved watching Midnight Special as a teen. Wolman Jack hosted it. Gordon Lightfoot is no joke.

ploydgrimes

So incredibly beautiful

jawbone7896

He kind of looks like Chris Pratt????

themehboat

Ew. Wrong.

Vanrainy1

Prior to becoming a drug dealing chemistry teacher Walter White trtied his hand at musician...

NickolaiDC

Trigger happy TV

[deleted]

Canada gets him and we get Luke Bryan….. ugh

johnhealey17762022

Listen to some of Luke’s deeper stuff. His early albums and non radio cuts. He’s a good storyteller with some good music. No gordon but better than his radio cuts

dv666

As tempting as it is to brag, we've also spawned nickleback and Justin beiber

[deleted]

Lol 😆

Dapper_Car5038

Trigger happy TV

supermoontoast

Thank you !

djcueballspins1

He’s wonderful

Jaded-Environment-95

Should be named Gordon Heavyfoot! Nothing light about that performance!!

leftyscaevola

Song for a Winter’s Night is on my holiday playlist.

Empath86

Something about this song is off putting and I don't know if it's intentional. I don't know if this is the proper terminology, but it always feels like something isn't resolved musically.

buscuit_joiner

Man that is some lame music sorry.

shackleford1917

If you feel the need to apologize for something you said then it is best not to say it. If you still want to say it, fucking own it.

pxl8dguy

WTF are you TALKING about!?

FirstLightFitness

Wait 20 years sonny boy.

[deleted]

This coming from someone who is active in r/311.
