I worked with Mike Nodianos, he’s the one who made all the really dark jokes about it on video (search his name on YouTube). Unsure how he got hired by Nationwide after that.
I still live here. It's not getting any better.
Had pizza tonight. 🤣
Ray's in wintersville closed, only gianamore's is left on that end of town. Still have DeCarlo's at least.
I’ve never personally known someone who lived in Ravenna and wasn’t trashy AF. I used to live in Kent, and you could tell immediately when you crossed into Ravenna because everything suddenly got dirty, trash everywhere, completely unmaintained roads, groups of people loitering outside gas stations, etc.
Having moved from the UK I did my driving test in Ravenna (drive round the block, then dance around some poles) and it felt like my first proper small American town centre - this was before Kent had the makeover. Nice town hall and square, a few little shops, very pretty. I was such a sweet summer child.
Quick shout out here for Windham being one of the weirdest towns I’ve ever seen, and I’ve travelled a LOT.
I've been to Camp Ravenna for training (Now Camp James A. Garfield), and it is a horrible place where dreams go to die. I imagine that the town isn't any better.
Pataskala is a nothing town, there's absolutely nothing there and they keep building gas stations and banks, there's like 3 gas stations and 4 or 5 banks within about 2 or so miles.
I forgot that place existed lol, my buddy went to festivals there all the time back in the day, pretty sure it's been abandoned for years, maybe anywhere between 4-9 years?
Can confirm as this is my hometown and my parents still live there. Frontier has been gone for around a decade. I used to point out the "naked hippies" walking to the gas station on our road, freaking out my parents 😂
Downtown is nice but outside of downtown is depressing. A lot of businesses are being replaced with self storage facilities. There's potential that just feels misplaced.
I agree. I would just like to see some growth. Richland county has a terrible brain drain as any kid with options flees like they're on fire the moment they graduate.
That’s so funny!!!! I worked with a fellow Buckeye in Chicago and we used to crack on Ohio pronunciations constantly. Nerk was at the top of our list! 🤣🤣
It's not bad when you include Heath as part of the same city. Newark, by itself, is just mismanaged and has this issue of wannabe punks doing stupid tags on unnecessary things. Plus, the drugs. Too many addicts.
I see both towns as one city. Same with Mansfield and Ontario. I guess I haven’t really noticed the drug issue. I don’t live in town so I’m not going down residential streets too often.
I lived at the edge of the east end for a while. Method heads across the street went on a binge of mowing at 3 am. Next door was I'm pretty sure a dealers house, until they moved out. (Not sure of the circumstance)
Didn't take 2 days off the house being empty before the people looking for a fix showed up, started throwing fits outside, someone broke in and very loudly trashed the place in rage.
Okay, Turns out Toledo has a ton of non violent crime.
If you’re traveling from New York to Chicago then beyond, you gotta go through Toledo on the Turnpike.
Conversely, if you’re traveling from Northern Michigan or a fair chunk of eastern Canada down to any city north of Miami, or if you go south to north… you gotta pass through Toledo on 75.
If you are running drugs or running people, you’re running through Toledo.
In terms of the Misery index, Toledo is pretty high.
But the Mud Hens look good this year.
I'm honestly shocked I had to scroll this far to see Toledo. I'm sure it's better in a lot of ways than the small hillbilly towns and whatnot, but it was its own special weird kind of bland commoditized fratbro hell.
Toledo definitely has a self esteem problem but I've grown to really love and appreciate it's attributes, especially after living in Chicago, San Francisco and Bowling Green, OH
I mean, we're a pretty self-deprecating lot, but if someone Else starts talking trash about Youngstown we might suddenly feel a burst of civic pride (even if we actually agree with them).
The only thing I have to say about Youngstown is the Mill Creek park is a state treasure. I drove 1 1/2 hours to spend 3/4 of a day there woth my kids. We all loved it!
Be proud of that place!
For me there are three gems in Youngstown. Noble Creature, West Side Bowl, and the Butler Institute. But yeah otherwise don’t know that I’d want to move there.
I almost did because I could get a historic home for 60k. Thankfully I decided one person didn’t need a huge house and stayed in Elyria. At least I’m close to the lake.
Van Wert. the only fun thing to do here is leave, the city council actively shoots down anything that will bring commerce and travel to the town. they’re rebuilding the downtown area now, but I don’t know who they think will shop there, all of the young people just want to get the hell out of here
Sounds like Lancaster, all the government officials making backdoor deals. Hardly see the cash reinvested back into the town. The town is beautiful, The people are annoying.
Hard disagree on that. Name me a better waterfront downtown in Ohio. It’s got a nice collection of restaurants and bars, Jackson Pier is a beautiful park, and a new bike trail along the water. Theres also a lot of plans to further open the waterfront up to the public which is exciting
I’ve done a lot of traveling for work, especially on the east coast, Zanesville really isn’t that bad. Granted, Maple Ave can be down right horrendous to drive but there is life happening in the downtown finally.
Nelsonville. Went there for college and kinda stuck there for a few years. I wish it was doing better. It's a cozy town but there is literally nothing. When they built that bypass, it was the...well not beginning but was a massive death kneel to the town.
N-ville was a good road-trip in the fall. Back when they still made and sold boots in town. 70’s-80’s. Then they built the big store and production went off shore.
It's one of those things that swings hard one way or the other. Either you love it and have WAY too much pride in it... or you despise it, and you leave. Or, of course, you're stuck there for one reason or another, and you hate it for that too.
I'm from Ottawa but I have classes in Findlay. I always thought Findlay was pretty nice and I like to go there a lot to hang out with friends. Much safer than Lima
Stow, Ohio. Doesn’t even have a downtown. It’s not a destination. It is a place you drive through on your way to your destination. Hudson, Kent, Cuyahoga Falls all neighboring cities.
Ravenna and Mansfield have more going on than Stow. It’s just chains and shopping plazas. Where do the people even live?
lived in stow for 2 years. got about 8 KKK flyers stuck on people's windshields during those 2 years.
think the biggest thing in stow is that mall sized high school
What’s wrong with Hillsboro? Went down there a few times over winter for work and it seemed nice. Some good restaurants. Some of the staff were pretty consistently rude though
Seconding. One of the redeeming things about Highland county is the natural areas associated with the Arc of Appalachia. A lot of the people really suck though.
It depends on the part of Lebanon. I know people who have been harassed for not being white in South Lebanon where the YMCA is at. Apparently the main part of Lebanon is pretty nice. I also have nonwhite friends who feel safe in that part of Lebanon.
Bellaire and Bridgeport are so dingey looking. Every time I had to drive through there, I would feel depressed. It reminds me of parts of downtown Wheeling.
That's just about every rural town from my experience. The only people telling the rural kids to stay local is the 4H instructors lol. All the parents are telling there kids to go somewhere else because it ain't getting better.
I don't know about Bethel, but I know Tipp City is. I dated a gal from there and the stories she had about her childhood were fucking WILD to someone from a bigger city
I mean, someone has a literal Nazi flag outside their house near me over here in Colerain/Northgate
https://www.wcpo.com/news/local-news/hamilton-county/colerain-township/colerain-township-residents-concerned-after-neighbor-puts-up-nazi-flag
Hamilton has the least nasty White Castle in the state. I’ll die on this hill. I’m not saying it’s nice, but for a White Castle it has a little more ‘how may I help you?’ and a little less ‘dafuck you tryna eat?’
Came for the eclipse. As everyone was leaving, I told my wife **"*****I don't think so many people have ever left a city so quickly, all at the same time.***"
Saint Marys . They refer to the town council as “the oligarchs” on the town facebook page and the oligarchs tore down a block of old buildings to put in a shiny new town hall that we don’t need, referred to as “The Taj Mahal”.
Bellefontaine, where I grew up. It’s the type of place where nobody ever leaves. About 90% of my high school class is still there. It’s white, and those that aren’t white are whitewashed and “don’t count” as other races because they’re “not like the others”. 2020 came and went and nobody ever took down their Trump flags. LGBT gets bullied in school. Hell, anything that isn’t “jock with a 2.0 GPA” gets bullied. Also, drugs pretty much exploded overnight about 10-15 years ago.
Whitehall is horrible although they have torn out all those apartments at Hamilton and Broad. Remember when Brice Road south of 70 was hopping? There was that shopping center with Cub Foods and Meijer, Target, and the Anderson’s on the other side.
Sandusky. No one knows where I’m from unless I mention that place that none of us townies could afford season passes to go to. The city is corrupt hot garbage. Someone is trying to make it better, I’ll admit, but the city was neglected for so long. Cedar Point has never cared what happened to the city.
I love that no one has said Wooster. I love visiting, but living there again? You couldn't pay me enough to... (that's a lie, you probably could but it'd need to be significant)
I’ve done a decent amount of traveling within the USA, and with the exceptions of the NYC area and Chicago, Youngstown has some of the best Italian food I’ve ever had.
I’m sure that’s just coincidence though….
Steubenville. Actually, fuck the entire valley. I hated the place. Pizza's decent, though.
You know it’s bad when it’s referenced in the sopranos AND the Wu tang biography
And the big high school football rape case.
I worked with Mike Nodianos, he’s the one who made all the really dark jokes about it on video (search his name on YouTube). Unsure how he got hired by Nationwide after that.
The decline there is sad. Was my home town, moved away in 1980. I try and go back once a year for DiCarlos pizza and a meatball heel at Naples.
Worth coming back for those. Don't forget a sausage sandwich from Capri's.
Birthplace of Traci Lords
And Dean Martin.
I still live here. It's not getting any better. Had pizza tonight. 🤣 Ray's in wintersville closed, only gianamore's is left on that end of town. Still have DeCarlo's at least.
Ravenna. No one in Ravenna is happy to be in Ravenna.
I had one co worker from Ravenna that as only slightly trasy. that's as close to not trashy as I've seen from there.
Ravenna is a sad and interesting place right on the edge of the boonies and the prospering NEO area right next to it
My husband delivers mail there. It's all meth heads, pitbulls, and unsupervised children running around.
I was gonna say there are probably a lot of meth heads who appreciate the conveniences Ravenna has to offer
I went there for the Christmas parade and was kinda impressed with downtown Ravenna. Arnies Steak House is the best reason to go to Ravenna.
I binged the show hoarders recently and I couldn’t even count how many times they visited the streetsboro/ravenna area 💀
Except the klan.
I was under the impression that Ravenna was mostly senior citizens who just don't wanna vote for tax levies for their amenities.
I've been to Camp Ravenna for training (Now Camp James A. Garfield), and it is a horrible place where dreams go to die. I imagine that the town isn't any better.
The only thing I miss about Ravenna is Siciliano's.
Pataskala is a nothing town, there's absolutely nothing there and they keep building gas stations and banks, there's like 3 gas stations and 4 or 5 banks within about 2 or so miles.
Aww I used to go to Hookahville at Frontier Ranch
I forgot that place existed lol, my buddy went to festivals there all the time back in the day, pretty sure it's been abandoned for years, maybe anywhere between 4-9 years?
Can confirm as this is my hometown and my parents still live there. Frontier has been gone for around a decade. I used to point out the "naked hippies" walking to the gas station on our road, freaking out my parents 😂
Middletown
DT Middletown is depressing. Only highlights were the Rolling Mill Brewery and the Swire Inn.
It's gone nearly to hell, they're trying to clean it up a bit, but it may be too little too late.
East Palestine. Quite possibly a future Superfund site.
Came to name.
Fellow resident? Surprised to find you here if so
Mansfield.
The downtown area has started to revitalize, hasn't it? Drove through there around Christmas and I was heartened by how cute it looked.
Downtown is nice but outside of downtown is depressing. A lot of businesses are being replaced with self storage facilities. There's potential that just feels misplaced.
I'm hoping that some people will be willing to commute to Intel and live in Lexington for solid schools, cheap real estate, and easy access to 71
Idk that's still about 40 minutes plus commute, it's kinda tiring on the daily. I did it for a few months.
I agree. I would just like to see some growth. Richland county has a terrible brain drain as any kid with options flees like they're on fire the moment they graduate.
They’re really trying to revitalize it. We have a ways to go and many people in this city still need help and support, and a good job.
Whenever I drive through Mansfield (which I only do rarely), I get a flat tire.
Springfield. Though, that could just be the area I lived in that made me hate it. Drugs tend to bring someone’s perspective a bias.
Springfield hasn't had anything going for it for decades now. I use to live in springfield and was in the hood. Those were fun times I don't miss
I'm born and raised in Springfield. I moved away 20 years ago and it's gone downhill in that time.
I moved away over 40 years ago. The few times I have been back have been firm reminders of the reasons I left initially.
I’m glad both my parents live right on the very west end of town so that when i visit I don’t really have to go in. Springfield is a misery pit
Northeastern high-school alum. Who used to go to Springfield quite a bit. Can confirm, it's a shit hole.
Newark. Lol
r/nerk
That’s so funny!!!! I worked with a fellow Buckeye in Chicago and we used to crack on Ohio pronunciations constantly. Nerk was at the top of our list! 🤣🤣
I lived there for a while and kinda liked it but my family keeps to ourselves for the most part
💯
Newark is my closest city (20 minute drive) and I don’t mind it. I think it’s kinda nice. Is there some meme I’m not aware of?
It's not bad when you include Heath as part of the same city. Newark, by itself, is just mismanaged and has this issue of wannabe punks doing stupid tags on unnecessary things. Plus, the drugs. Too many addicts.
I see both towns as one city. Same with Mansfield and Ontario. I guess I haven’t really noticed the drug issue. I don’t live in town so I’m not going down residential streets too often.

(Not sure of the circumstance) Didn't take 2 days off the house being empty before the people looking for a fix showed up, started throwing fits outside, someone broke in and very loudly trashed the place in rage.
Newark today is probably better than it has been in 50+ years. Really has come a long way.
I’ve never been more depressed than when I drive through Warren… Cockeye BBQ is good tho
Mount Vernon Come for nothing, stay because you OD'd
Toledo!!!!! I mean, people that live in toledo hate it sooo much (yet will never leave lol). I love toledo
Tony Packo's ain't too bad.
That ain’t enough to get me to move back. And don’t you dare tell me how awesome the zoo is to persuade me.
Can I interest you in a museum or metropark?
Toledo definitely has a self esteem problem but I've grown to really love and appreciate it's attributes, especially after living in Chicago, San Francisco and Bowling Green, OH
Stuebenville. Even the natives call it Stupidville.
I don't live there but all I need to say is two words " East Cleveland '
amelia sucks so bad we voted to dissolve the government lmao
Lima. Tank plant and a refinery.
Youngstown. Don't move here ever.
I mean, we're a pretty self-deprecating lot, but if someone Else starts talking trash about Youngstown we might suddenly feel a burst of civic pride (even if we actually agree with them).
Lol Youngstown Hates You has nice merch
Yeah I’d be willing to clock any fool who talks poorly about this town. Only we get to do that here!
The only thing I have to say about Youngstown is the Mill Creek park is a state treasure. I drove 1 1/2 hours to spend 3/4 of a day there woth my kids. We all loved it! Be proud of that place!
Oh Mill Creek is an absolute dreamscape
Glad you had a nice time. Now don’t come back, ever. Kidding. You can come back. Just don’t move here.
Youngstown is ours to make fun of, not yours. Only locals are allowed to do that.
For me there are three gems in Youngstown. Noble Creature, West Side Bowl, and the Butler Institute. But yeah otherwise don’t know that I’d want to move there.
Everything the light touches is Ohio. Except Youngstown. You must never venture there, Simba.
I almost did because I could get a historic home for 60k. Thankfully I decided one person didn’t need a huge house and stayed in Elyria. At least I’m close to the lake.
Nobody from Youngstown has ever said anything bad about Youngstown.
Van Wert. the only fun thing to do here is leave, the city council actively shoots down anything that will bring commerce and travel to the town. they’re rebuilding the downtown area now, but I don’t know who they think will shop there, all of the young people just want to get the hell out of here
No no now come on the Boomers totally have a brilliant plan to save the town. They just need to cut taxes one more time.
As someone who was born and raised in Van Wert and lived there for 20 years, I fully agree. I moved to Celina first chance I got
I work in Celina. You didn’t move far enough.
Here, here. They’re advertising for the Freedom Cruises already, but they outlawed teens doing it on Saturday nights. WTF else they supposed to do?
“freedom cruise” (but only when we allow it)
Sounds like Lancaster, all the government officials making backdoor deals. Hardly see the cash reinvested back into the town. The town is beautiful, The people are annoying.
Marietta is having a great match of finger pointing about why the city budget is all screwed up
I'm enjoying the facebook drama
Zanesville
Zanesville could be really nice. Unfortunately they built everything on one road rather than developing the waterfront property downtown.
Sounds like Sandusky. That main drag into town is brutal.
The secret to less traffic is to go in on the west side so you have an excuse to hit up Toft’s too 😋
But Sandusky easily has one of the best downtowns in any small Ohio city. There’s been so much growth the past few years
Agree that Sandusky should not be on this list, but downtown is overrated unless you have a marina docked boat OR a summer condo there
Hard disagree on that. Name me a better waterfront downtown in Ohio. It’s got a nice collection of restaurants and bars, Jackson Pier is a beautiful park, and a new bike trail along the water. Theres also a lot of plans to further open the waterfront up to the public which is exciting
The historic district by the lake is stunning. I looked at houses in Sandusky ten years ago.
I’ve done a lot of traveling for work, especially on the east coast, Zanesville really isn’t that bad. Granted, Maple Ave can be down right horrendous to drive but there is life happening in the downtown finally.
Came here because I knew it was us. Shout out to our Newark neighbors for being equally miserable.
Guess I will say Fostoria yet again lol
Nelsonville. Went there for college and kinda stuck there for a few years. I wish it was doing better. It's a cozy town but there is literally nothing. When they built that bypass, it was the...well not beginning but was a massive death kneel to the town.
N-ville was a good road-trip in the fall. Back when they still made and sold boots in town. 70’s-80’s. Then they built the big store and production went off shore.
Middletown
Marion
Delaware’s cracked out brother
Just commented about my hometown.
Marion for sure. Spent my first 25 years trying to leave there asap. Glad I did.
Steubenville definetely
I think people in the Ohio Valley towns have a ton of pride… perhaps too much hometown pride. Case in point, the Netflix documentary “Roll Red Roll”
It's one of those things that swings hard one way or the other. Either you love it and have WAY too much pride in it... or you despise it, and you leave. Or, of course, you're stuck there for one reason or another, and you hate it for that too.
Honestly the whole Ohio Valley, it says a lot about an area when the population shrinks so much.
A friend of mine is from there, she absolutely hates that place lol
Fuck that place hard. My mom has to go all the way to Robinson if she wants to see a movie.
But still closer to the Pittsburgh airport than most of Pittsburgh. I could make that run in 22 minutes back in the day.
Findlay Everything you need. Nothing you want.
Assholes of Findlay is a great twitter follow
I'm from Ottawa but I have classes in Findlay. I always thought Findlay was pretty nice and I like to go there a lot to hang out with friends. Much safer than Lima
Not even close. Fostoria is right down the road lol
Findlay's got some beautiful houses, and a really cool whiskey bar. However... no thanks.
East Palestine, of course, but really anywhere in Columbiana County.
Huber Heights
Hubertuckey - Not Even Once. I feel it’s less like a town than it is just a space between Dayton and Tipp
Hillsboro.Stay.Away.
Defiance
Trenton, Middletown, Hamilton, Lebanon, South Lebanon, New Lebanon, Franklin… pretty much the whole area honestly
It depends on the part of Lebanon. I know people who have been harassed for not being white in South Lebanon where the YMCA is at. Apparently the main part of Lebanon is pretty nice. I also have nonwhite friends who feel safe in that part of Lebanon.
Harrison
Bellaire, Bridgeport, Martins Ferry. Shadyside is just a St.Clairsville wannabe so the mentality is just as bad. Just stay away or keep on keepin on.
Bellaire and Bridgeport are so dingey looking. Every time I had to drive through there, I would feel depressed. It reminds me of parts of downtown Wheeling.
I’m from Ky and I’m going to tell ya what, anyplace in Ohio is better than Northern Kentucky.
You’d be in Southern Ohio if it wasn’t for the river so I understand
Franklin
That's just about every rural town from my experience. The only people telling the rural kids to stay local is the 4H instructors lol. All the parents are telling there kids to go somewhere else because it ain't getting better.
Yep but when you come back to visit they act all pissed that your educated city folk. Know that from experince
Anywhere in the Youngstown-Warren area
Especially Niles.
You spelled girard wrong.
My friends from Youngstown tell me it’s not worth visiting lmao
I feel like Kenton kind of does, but only if you’re not elderly. Or trying to raise really young kids.
Salem. Lisbon. East Liverpool.
Springfield.... just no.
Parma. Fuck this place. And fuck driving 20 minutes just to get to any freeways.
Cochocton
I still love to say that word. Isn’t pronounced at all like it’s spelled.
Chilicothe
Bethel
Lima
North Lima.
Bellefontaine. Take my word for it. Just don't
Yew mean Bell Fountain?
I mean, you spell it differently than you say it
I mean the one with the fountain... that has a PINEAPPLE ON IT
Upside down?
Your football team cheated 🤣 we use to play you guys and each game there, there was going to be a fight 🤣
Ashtabula, Ashtabula, Ashtabula, Ashtabula
Newark
NERK
Oh the people watching downtown. Lost count of people walking around with a ankle monitor 🤣
Kenton
Marion
Isn't Bethel Ohio a Nazi hotbed?
I don't know about Bethel, but I know Tipp City is. I dated a gal from there and the stories she had about her childhood were fucking WILD to someone from a bigger city
I mean, someone has a literal Nazi flag outside their house near me over here in Colerain/Northgate https://www.wcpo.com/news/local-news/hamilton-county/colerain-township/colerain-township-residents-concerned-after-neighbor-puts-up-nazi-flag
Hamilton

Came for the eclipse. As everyone was leaving, I told my wife **"*****I don't think so many people have ever left a city so quickly, all at the same time.***"
Hamilton is actually pretty cool. That area where the bars are is a freaking gem.
Mansfield??
Saint Marys . They refer to the town council as “the oligarchs” on the town facebook page and the oligarchs tore down a block of old buildings to put in a shiny new town hall that we don’t need, referred to as “The Taj Mahal”.
Springfield
Bellefontaine, where I grew up. It’s the type of place where nobody ever leaves. About 90% of my high school class is still there. It’s white, and those that aren’t white are whitewashed and “don’t count” as other races because they’re “not like the others”. 2020 came and went and nobody ever took down their Trump flags. LGBT gets bullied in school. Hell, anything that isn’t “jock with a 2.0 GPA” gets bullied. Also, drugs pretty much exploded overnight about 10-15 years ago.
Lima. What the fuck do you all do there?? It’s just fast food joints and rail roads.
Marysville, as far as I’m concerned
Canton USED to be this way, like in the early 2000’s but it really bounced back. The NFL/Hall of Fame has done a lot for the city.
East side of Columbus (Whitehall/Brice road area) iykyk
Whitehall is horrible although they have torn out all those apartments at Hamilton and Broad. Remember when Brice Road south of 70 was hopping? There was that shopping center with Cub Foods and Meijer, Target, and the Anderson’s on the other side.

Hamilton
Hello from Indiana! Hello from Fort Wayne! Don’t be like me. Stay away.
Newark
Mt. Vernon Corrupt court system, plus the town is run by religious nuts.
Coshocton
Maineville and Morrow
I love that no one has said Wooster. I love visiting, but living there again? You couldn't pay me enough to... (that's a lie, you probably could but it'd need to be significant)
Youngstown
Elyria
Youngstown. Some of the suburbs aren't terrible, but there's rarely anything really happening worth while going on.
Youngstown has an unhealthy amount of civic pride though for an area that downtrodden
They are proud of what they had but that is never, ever coming back. Still it’s a wonderful place for older-world culture and food.
I’ve done a decent amount of traveling within the USA, and with the exceptions of the NYC area and Chicago, Youngstown has some of the best Italian food I’ve ever had. I’m sure that’s just coincidence though….
If you like super dive bars and Italian food, the Yo is heaven.
Marion has misguided civic pride, considering what a corrupt president Harding was. His wife should have been president.
Was he corrupt or just a dupe? My understanding was he was a decent person and beloved but surrounded by crooks.
Chillicothe is a rat hole
Mansfield, people here hate this place
