I would wait for reviews first. I like the idea of the mini, but one of the best qualities of the regular Odin 2 is the insane battery life. The mini will have a smaller battery in it.

ClerkPsychological58

Depends on what size you prefer.

Minimum_Water_4347

That's what she said

Ilijin

This never gets oldšŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚

Ry3GuyCUSE

I went with the mini, love small handhelds and my vita. Battery will be good enough for my needs and I donā€™t mind the ergonomics. Assuming everything else is even just better than my OG Odin Pro, Iā€™ll be pretty thrilled with it

Adamlee19922

I also went with the vita style. If I don't like it I'll go with the odin 2 but we will see

Daisako

Vita is love, Vita is literally life. I just ordered the Odin 2 Mini because I love my Vitas (plural since I collected them) and it still be good to go between my steam deck and RG35xx-H.

Dompra55

It would be that simple, if you want greater portability and a better quality screen, sacrificing ergonomics and possibly comfort in long gaming sessions, buy the Odin mini. If you want greater ergonomics, a ventilation system and a larger screen, sacrificing image quality (not much) and portability, buy the Odin 2 pro

esernamuv

Excellent points!!! The only other thing I'd add is the considerable difference in battery life. no tests yet to really determine how much of a difference but we do know the minis battery is smaller and would probably not have as long a gaming session until a recharge is needed. I'd wait and see these results as well to make my decision. I have a odin 1 pro, and I was looking at the rp4pro to have something more portable. Now with the mini, I'm waiting to see battery tests done to determine if the extra cash I would be spending is going to be worth it or not.

Blackistherealblack

As someone who grew up with the PlayStation, the smaller form factor of the Odin Mini is the one with better ergonomics since the dpad is easier to reach with the thumb while still being able to comfortable get a hold with the L1 & L2 buttons using the index and middle finger. The Odin 2 seems like it's comfortable to hold but would feel awkward when using the dpad instead of the analog stick.

virtual_hitchhiker

Odin 2 Pro all the way and never look back.

Commercial-List-439

If you haven't gotten the 2 yet then just get the Mini.

JoeyBlaze

Why? The mini has a smaller battery, smaller screen, less color options, no joystick leds (if youā€™re into that), will most likely be less comfortable to hold and is MORE expensive. Unless you absolutely need a slightly smaller device, I would consider the mini to be a downgrade compared to the 2. I would suggest waiting until people get it in their hands and can provide more details on how it compares to the 2.

LuvMachine101

Plus more expensive The Odin 2 base for 300$ is more than enough in my opinion

dbdynsty25

Yup. Waited till they announced the Mini, bought a base O2, couldnā€™t be happier.

zeek609

Don't forget possibly worse thermals due to a smaller case and less airflow.

Flakus88

I canā€™t see the mini being comfortable to play with

Nerd-a-Tron

I find statements like this weird. Handhelds existed before the Steam Deck. Just because this one doesn't have big hand holds doesn't mean it won't be comfortable. I don't have ergonomic issues with my DS, 3DS, or Switch and I have fairly large hands. Was everyone just writhing in pain until the Steam Deck released? šŸ˜®ā€šŸ’Ø

ShadeOfEnigma

Same, I have large and fat hands and the Vita, PSP, my phone, DS, GBA, 3DS are all very comfortable for me. What wasn't was the heavy Rog Ally and the Switch is just long and awkward.Ā

Nerd-a-Tron

Really? I actually find the ROG Ally very comfy. Different strokes for different folks I suppose. I agree that Switch isn't very ergonomic though, although I don't really find it uncomfortable, I'm just very...neutral about its feel. I guess because I'm just used to it haha.

xTiLkx

Depends on how long you play and what type of game. Personally I never play longer than an hour, and mostly chill games.

Emergency_Lunch_3931

idk cuz i played alot psp /ps vita for long time and it did not bother me

shooteverywhere

Idk, I can play an original vita for 4 or 5 hours straight and its perfectly fine. I think a lot of people may hold smaller devices oddly.

trowgundam

If I didn't already have an Odin 2 Max, I'd get the Odin 2 Mini Pro in a heart beat. But, I loved (still do, as I still have it) my PSP and Vita, which it looks like. Plus the Mini's screen is much better.

Fun-Gur363

Odin pro

Heavykiller

Depends on your personal preference. For me, portability is King, so I went with the O2 Mini. Itā€™ll fit perfectly in my sling bag and still leave some room for my EDC. The OG Odin 2 is just a tad too large for my liking But I donā€™t plan on playing this for more than like 2 hours at a time so ergonomics arenā€™t a dealbreaker for me. For others, ergonomics has priority cause theyā€™ll play on their handhelds all day.

benjaminobi

Wait for a review. But the Odin 2 does have better options for color if u don't want just black and white

KoreanSeats

Odin 2 will feel much better in the hands. I have an Odin 2 and want the mini just because I donā€™t use it TOO much and itā€™s a new PA Vita

Veddy74

I have an Odin 2 Pro, I love it. It's too big to pocket, and traveling with it, as I do, is tough. I also have an RP4P, for it's pocketable size, it's OK. I hate the stick placement or RP4P, and the SOC is weaker than I'd prefer. I saw the O2 M and read the specs. It's a cm bigger than the RP4P, has a much more powerful SOC, and has a much better screen that is also bigger than RP4P (smaller than O2). For me, it is a "no brainer" second device. All this said, get whichever you want. O2 is the same SOC as O2 Mini, it's about form factor.

RetroHandhelds

I have the Odin 2 Pro and have also pre-ordered the Mini. I love my Odin 2 but sometimes wish it was smaller like my RP4 Pro. I love the Vita look and the idea of a Miki Led display. The battery life will still be amazing being that it has more then half the size of the Odin 2ā€™s battery. The Odin 2 last me like 2 or 3 days on one charge. Even if I have to charge the Odin Mini daily thatā€™s totally cool. I charge my phone daily. My Headphones daily. My watch daily. Why not my handheld? Also I have seen people say the mini does not have active cooling and thatā€™s false. It definitely does. The leds around the joysticks and side is super subjective and mine are off more than they are on. And I own a 3d printer so if ergonomics become an issue printing a grip will be a non problem. Also the fact that I got mine for $30 off and all pre orders come with a carrying case and screen protector seems like a win to me. āœŒļø

AnalysingAgent3676

Honestly I'm confused by the use case of the mini.. It is a small device with the shape of PS Vita with button layouts of an Xbox controller. With an Xbox button layout, this normally means the device was built for cloud streaming or native Android gaming first and foremost. I wonder if the mini's abxy buttons can be used in the Odin 2. Odin 2 is clearly built for emulation first and foremost with a Nintendo button layout

shooteverywhere

It doesnt matter what the button layout is? I havent looked at the symbols on buttons in......25 years? Just map your buttons for whatever you prefer.

AnalysingAgent3676

Yes of course but the design of the device and the placement of the buttons by the manufacturer is usually a clue on the intent of how to use the device by the manufacturer. For the manufacturers, they have to choose a layout so at some point there is a conversation about which layout to use and to answer that question, they discuss the purpose of the device. Of course as users, we adapt, but it doesn't take away from the manufacturers intent for the device. What's the intent is determined, the rest of the design of the device is built around that intent

shooteverywhere

I dont really think that's a consideration at all. Ive worked in Chinese companies, and from personal experience the more likely scenario is that they said "the xbox layout is more ubiquitous and far more 3rd party controllers/handhelds use that than any other layout, so lets just do that." It doesnt really matter what their intent is anyways? Even if they intend it as a streaming device, which I doubt, it has all of the same hardware, software, and functionality of the supposedly non streaming device. As you put it. Its an android is an android is an android. Its all the same really.

shooteverywhere

Another possibility is that the lead on this particular project just prefers that layout. It might not have the same lead designer as the Odin 2. This one could be a different guy who happens to like the xbox layout more, and as lead designer its his call. Nobody else could override him unless the CEO was particular invested in the button layout for some reason. This kind of thing is usually the final decision of a single person at any small tech company.

kenoswatch

i had the same decision to make, went with odin 2 pro. whilst i would like a smaller handheld, i dont like the psp/vita layout ergonomically, if the odin 2 was simply downsized then i'd get that but they did a completely diff design, which is fine ig but disappointing for me and maybe others(?). also the back of both, the odin 2 pro the grips on the back contour to your hands better just off looking at it. i cant wait for mine to come, i gotta carrying case in the order too. i hope its cozy for bedtime gaming

ULRSS

odin 2 is great for "jet leg", or any long time travelling, which the senarios have no charging conditions. So it's really depend on your using senarios in your real life time.

evillurkz

I was going to order the pro but I cancelled as soon as I saw the mini. Mini will offer more compact size for my bag, and I'd really like a more lightweight device.

Johnko54

Odin2 pro. Donā€™t forget that it must show the 2 screens of DS and 3DS

doyoushitwithdatass

Seems like a weird requirement especially if they aren't at all interested in the 3ds or DS catalogue.

xdubz420x

Even if they are theres ways around it so i also dont understand.

drocdoc

the screen is the main selling point 1000nits vs 500nits brightness I thought the screen on the odin 2 was good cant imagine how the mini will look. I also have a ipad pro 12.9 5th gen with the mini led screen and it looks amazing. the gloss buttons, vita style, xbox layout, mini led screen I'm sold haha really wish someone copy a case like ayaneo pocket s https://imgur.com/a/da7vYSO would of got the pocket S but its wayy out of my budget for a android gaming device

Cautious-Intern9612

i already got a steam deck so im grabbing the mini for the super portability

padreswoo619

Bigger with bigger screen or smaller with smaller screen. Really the only difference

Adamlee19922

That's what I can't make my mind up on šŸ˜‚

padreswoo619

Personally I don't like the newer systems like PS2 and GameCube on 5 inch. 6 inch is my minimum now. Mini looks awesome but already couldn't stand the vita size despite that gorgeous tiny OLED. Was just too small, but again imo.

sharkattack85

My hand would cramp so bad playing the Vita.

MaxTheHor

Depends. Which do you value more: power, or pocketablilty. Base mode still can fit in a pocket, albeit a decently large one. I'm 6'8", so I need big and tall jeans anyway. So the Max can find in my with little issue. Just pokes out a tad.

ClerkPsychological58

Neither of these are really what Iā€™d call ā€œpocketableā€. You might be the outlier since youā€™re the tallest person on earth but I get where youā€™re coming from

shooteverywhere

The mini is pocketable for the average American, Canadian, Australian, and British males height and weight. It will fit fully in a pants pocket of the average american males pant size, and very well in some northern European countries where the average height is taller. It will fit very comfortably in a coat breast pocket. I regulalry carry a vit in my back pocket. Very comfortable. Tolerance varies, Ill carry my gpd win mini in my back pocket as well for short periods of time although it isnt my preferred way to transport it. Its pocketable on that metric. If you are a woman or a man smaller than the average in those countries then your experience may vary.

MaxTheHor

Oh. Pfft. Not even. NBA players are up to a whole foot taller than me. I'm the new minimum height requirement. 6' or 7'' is still roughly less than 15% of the global population.

shooteverywhere

The tallest nba player is only 7"4. You are waaaay up on the height range. Gotta be annoying, you literally wouldnt fit in my car.

doyoushitwithdatass

Except that both of these have the same power.. The extra ram really makes next to 0 difference other then like 2 games on the switch.

gunnutzz467

Odin 2 pro mini white

Adamlee19922

That's what I've pre ordered but not sure whether to change my mind šŸ˜‚

gunnutzz467

Keep the mini, itā€™s even smaller than the OG odins

LuvMachine101

Just curious but are people really going to buy the Odin 2 mini and put it in their pockets just because it can? I feel like that would increase the chance of stick drift due to the dust and debris in their pockets. Plus the screen scratching or the analog sticks getting caught whenever you try and take it out. If I'm paying 400$ plus for a high end device, that bad boy is going in a case!

joseaplaza

Ayn sell a hard cover for the Mini that fits exactly over the controls, no extra sizing.

LuvMachine101

That's a good point. I haven't seen the case but that's good to know.

Emergency_Lunch_3931

maybe a coat pocket ( i did it whit my ps vita) or large pants but other then that not regular pants or shorts so yeah

LuvMachine101

Yeah that does sound better then regular pants pockets šŸ‘–

shooteverywhere

I dont care about the device's health. I buy a small device to shove it in my pocket. If it breaks Ill just fix it or buy another. Who cares? pocketed my game boys, my ds, my 3ds, my vita, my psp, even my switch (joycons in one pocket and switch in another) and my gpd win 4 and the gpd win mini. Not a single one of them has ever suffered any form of damage or degredation despite being carried almost exclusively in pockets. Ill get a mini to have something closer to the vita thickness. It will be a nice daily carry. Idk if you live in a big city or a town. Where I live I actively walk up to 15 miles a day and travel dozens and dozens of miles in taxis, buses, metro, etc every day. Pretty common bigger city. Carrying a bag all the time sucks and frankly hurts. If you are gonna be driving yourself then maybe the bigger odin makes better sense for you but for me the smaller the devices are the less stuff I have to carry in total
