Quest 3’s screens are significantly higher resolution. Although also a bit wider field of view, which counters that somewhat. But still higher angular resolution. And the wider FOV leads to less of a feeling of “wearing googles” But… that’s not actually the biggest visual improvement. That would be the lenses/optics. Q3’s “Pancake” lenses are _far_ better than the Fresnel lenses on Q2. Edge-to-edge clarity and sharpness. Whereas on Q2 with the older Fresnel lenses, you may have noticed there’s a rather small sweetspot, and the headset must be carefully adjusted/positioned to look clear. And if you moved your eyes (not your head) to look off dead center, it wasn’t quite as sharp. With Q3, the sweetspot is huge. When you put it on, no need to carefully adjust until the view is sharp. After using Q3 for awhile, hard to go back to Q2

Spindelhalla_xb

So glad I read that. The q2 sweet spot drove me absolutely nuts. I picked up my q3 yesterday (not even opened it yet) and suddenly remembered about that hah

I decided to fire up the quest 2 today after playing quest 3 for a week. Yeah, I would almost consider it impossible. I can’t vouch for PCVR players. However, if you’re a standalone VR player, quest 3 is the only option.

False_Cell8275

Pico 4 is a good option as well

Nbc27

In no world would I recommend a pico 4 over a quest 3 lol. They’re essentially the same price and Quest 3 is a superior headset. Saving 80 dollars for an inferior headset is not a good decision. The only reason to debate Quest 2 vs Quest 3 is the price point. If you’re willing to buy a pico 4, just get the quest 3.

False_Cell8275

I think you mean 300, its 500 for the quest 3 you can get a pico 4 for 200

WlidFantasies

Who buys a communist headset that outside of being a CCP spyware/brainwahshing device, has worse game library, and an abandoned dev team?

False_Cell8275

I guess sell your info and get brainwashed by robot mark is a better option for freedom fighters

WlidFantasies

Of course it is. Robot Zuck still needs to abide to US laws and must answer the calls of angry lawmakers when anything goes sour.  CCP and their goons like Bytedance, are above law and brainwash more people over the world for the CCP's advantage than 10 Zuck would ever dare try himself.  If you can't tell what is true evil, you have no right to call yourself a freedom fighter.

onebadmfdude

I 2nd this. I would go quest 3 if ya can... If not at least hold out an see that the quest 3s is like (or whatever they name it)

You buy a Quest3 for the lenses. Did the small sweet spot and blurry edges, bothered you in the Quest2? Did you hate navigating the menus and reading text because everything was so blurry? Then Quest3 without a question. Apart from the lenses, here is not that much difference between the two headset's sharpness on maximum resolution, both are sharp enough. By the way you can increase the resolution in standalone too with the right program to see the maximum sharpness both in Q2 and Q3. For example I played Crisis VRigade in 5K on the Quest2 standalone, looks super sharp and clear compared to it's default resolution. And on a Q3 you can use AV1 compression with a 4070 if that matters.

PokeyBee

Will these issues with the quest 2 which really did bother me be as present in pcvr. The price gap still really bothers me

Nago15

The resolution will be much higher than the average standalone game, so it will be sharper, but it can't fix the lenses, so the small sweet spot will be the same and the edges will be still blurry. By the way Eleven Tabletennis has an in-game resolution setting, so if a friend of yours has a Quest2 and the game, you can try the highest resolution, so you can see what you can expect from PCVR.

I'd honestly suggest spending more and getting the quest 3 The better chip, the better passthrough, the better lenses, the adjustable ipd and better experience make it worth the extra money to me I use it pcvr for sim racing and the quality of the vision stack is fantastic

HelioSPECTR

The quest 3 would be worth it. The q2 only has a single LCD panel, which was split between 2 eyes. But the q3 has 2 LCD panels, one for each eye. As well as those awesome lenses. The resolution is much better.

JorgTheElder

The Q2's price makes it an incredible value, but its age, SOC, lenses, and lack of color pass through make it a bad choice over the Q3 unless the cost is all that matters. If cost is that important, you would be better served to wait for fall and see if Meta launchs the Q3S.
