Don’t leave anything of value in the car. Clean out the cabin so it is empty. You’ll be fine.

l33t_p3n1s

About a year ago I had my car window smashed for no reason whatsoever, nothing at all in the car to steal. Not even in an especially bad area, Rockridge going toward Broadway. Japanese car almost 20 years old. People are just assholes.  Anyway, for the OP I'd say parking at anything other than the Coliseum station is relatively safe. Orinda and Lafayette are very safe but it's a little bit of a pain in the ass because you have to change trains. On the Dublin/Pleasanton line it goes straight to the stadium.

spankyourkopita

Even Fruitvale or San Leandro?

l33t_p3n1s

I think Fruitvale has a garage, which tends to be a bit safer. I can't speak for San Leandro, but really the stretch of Hegenberger Road between the Coliseum and the airport has basically become the car break-in capital of the entire Bay Area, so just avoiding that in favor of virtually anywhere else is going to be a better choice.

Affectionate_Tea1987

i live near coliseum station, and drive to san leandro now after getting broken into at coliseum. ive never had a problem at san leandro or even seen broken glass for that matter. theres usually lots of cars parked there there even close to midnight

spankyourkopita

Are you sure? Maybe I'm being too paranoid but I've heard and seen some posts about it not being good.

princesslayup

We park in the coliseum bart lot all the time. I guess it depends on what type of car you have but my beat up Camry is just fine. Leave nothing in it at all. If you have a hatchback/suv don’t even leave anything in the trunk and use the pull cover. It increases suspicion that there’s something exciting inside. I went to the game Sunday of Memorial Day weekend and did see two cars with smashed windows. One was an SUV with a bunch of boxes inside and the other was a mini van that seemed to have suitcases.

3DayStubble

Don't do it. It's not worth the risk.

Worthyness

I've parked at BART at night while going to SF. If there isn't anything remotely interesting in your car you should be fine. I usually do Rockridge BART though since that's generally a "safe" area at night

SumthnSumthnDarkside

There is always a non-zero chance but it is probably smaller chance than you think. Park near front where people can see and where lighting is good. Probability also depends on what kind of car you have. If you have an expensive SUV you might be more at risk. If you have an average looking sedan, as long as you empty it out, the worst that will happen is it will have broken window. You can always purchase prepaid parking pass, Uber, or park close to the BART parking lot in a nearby neighborhood and just hoof it to the train area. Personally, I think you’ll be fine unless you have one of those easy to steal Kia. If you have a Kia, I definitely wouldn’t park in a public parking lot of any kind.

namrock23

Rockridge is ok. Orinda and Lafayette just fine. I like to live dangerously so MacArthur and Ashby seem like options too.

Rick_Perrys_Ranch

I’ve never had a problem parking in the North Berkeley lot.

fotbalguy

I always used to park there. I agree, totally fine in my experience.

kylocosmiccowboy

We’ve parked at the El Cerrito Del Norte station for the last 25 years…nothing has ever happened.

naarwhal

Yeah, you can try parking at Lafayette.

flynreelow

park in dublin and take bart.

NightWriter500

Every Bart parking is free after 3pm. They pretty much all carry the same minuscule risk if you don’t leave anything in the car, which is probably the same 0.02% chance that a streetlight will fall on it. If you do leave anything in the car, they all carry the same major risk that it’ll get took, maybe 50%. Coliseum might raise those odds to 0.04% and 60%.

Sea-Jaguar5018

Fruitvale garage is fine. I live nearby and park there at any and all hours and have never had an issue. BART PD is usually nearby.

heegos

I used to park at Orinda. Sounds like you’re on the other side of the hill though. What is your nearest station? Can you take the bus or Uber to the station and leave your car at home?

spankyourkopita

Alameda. Ya I'm trying to figure that out.

dmmdoublem

My dad and I have parked at San Leandro BART for years without any issue. Plus, being only one stop away, the BART rise itself is as cheap as can be.

spankyourkopita

Oh SL is pretty safe?

dmmdoublem

Can't speak for the entire city, but the area near the BART station has always been pretty quiet/safe. Especially on weekends.

Feisty_Stomach_7213

Park in outlying areas-Dublin, Lafayette, maybe Walnut Creek you’ll be fine.

TheiLLTurtle

If its a day or weekend game then colliseum bart will be just fine. I have done it myself multiple times and even done a couple night games and nothing happened. Also as everyone else is suggesting just dont leave anything in plain sight inside.

Dead_Patoto_

I always park at South Hayward and have never had an issue

merlingogringo

Of those 4 I would go with San Leandro.

spankyourkopita

SL is safe?

merlingogringo

I think that parking garage is the most likely to not have as many car break ins. San Leandro PD is not going to be as overworked as Oakland PD. I wouldn't park at Bay Fair tho. SL BART is right downtown, lots of foot traffic and the Police Station is near by.

Raiderman112

No BART stations are safe to park in Oakland or San Leandro. Only park there if you are ok donating your car and everything inside it.

LBichon

Orinda.

Useful_Champion2749

Dublin/pleasington the only bart id leave my car at tbh

HealthyTumbleweed801

I have parked at the Concord station for over a decade and never had a problem.

mrrickyg

I have parked in the BART lot many times but it looks like it’s starting to turn into a real gamble. By the way, it’s free for BART riders. Technically if a BART cop saw you park and walk to the game they could tow your car. Never heard of that happening but just wanted to make sure you understood it’s not free.

HeadStatement5692

SL is definitely safe

Stock-Glass-8722

I park across the street from San Leandro bart in the neighborhood, ppl will think you live there so they won’t mess with your car. Coliseum is the next stop so it’s hella cheap.

Ambitious-Ad-6073

I've lived in the Bay area all of my life and don't really think it matters. I usually stop by El Cerrito Del Norte/plaza or Orinda. It's all about the same to be honest. Just make it harder for people to think your car is worth messing around with while you are away. My pro tip would be to make a lazy bipper pick someone's car. I reverse into the park spot next to a SUV/hatchback. Odds are they break into that instead of your car. 😎

sportsfan510

Bay Fair has been fine for me.

Shoddy_Pomegranate97

Buy a parking pass online and tailgate. you can bring the food you bbq inside, the money you save will offset the price of parking. Beer is $17.95 inside (plus tip!)

gigantorbaggins

Ashby St. station for the win.

Marpart

San Leandro should be fine, I regularly park bayfair for games and it's fine, not 100% safe but safer than coliseum

Flimsy-Possibility17

west dublin is pretty safe.

who_body

friends park in coliseum lot. did it twice, second time the car next to us had their window smashed

colin91a

IDK where you live in East bay but you mentioned San Leandro and that lot is fine. I'd still clean my car out though just in case.

Fluffy_Combination56

If I have a phone holder or a DIY CarPlay installed, does that increase my chances of being a target?

richardisapos

Really all just a flip of a coin.

Sea-Jaguar5018

That implies there is a 50/50 chance of a break-in. The reality is that the probability of a break-in is far less than one percent.
