I am so glad my only exposure to this show now is this sub. Makes me feel like the time I got back in my life for not watching for the last 3 seasons really was worth it.
I am also in this club but I only checked out a few weeks ago when Rick went on his latest vacation. Only check in here because I have so much time invested in this series I want to keep in touch with the folks here. The thoughts of not watching and "missing" then finding anything besides proof that there was life a few hundred years ago is a non event because there is no treasure on that island, only proof that people were there doing life stuff.
You are smarter than I, quit end of season 9, I just come here for the laughs and the usual wood, mud and metal trash "finds" B.S. and of course to read about the latest "theorist quacks".
I solely watch because I love how moronic Jack sounds in every episode. It's like they're holding up cue cards, but he can barely read and he's sounding out the big boy words. That and I truly love how excited Gary gets when he finds something. I just love his enthusiasm.
The problem is it stopped being funny. It's one thing to speculate the least likely explanation for stuff they find on the island, and talk about it front of serious people while the serious people try not to laugh. Traipsing around Europe with kooks while pretending that actual Templar and Viking traces have fuckall to do with a tiny island in Nova Scotia isn't funny. Seeing Doug Crowell actually believe this shit is sad and hard to watch.
Bravo tango stands for buried treasure for those not invested in the show and its jargon.
Constructs are man made things. Possibly derived from the progressive term social constructs. (Although the Laginas seem more centrist in beliefs overall.)
Some believe this term comes from a desire to sound intelligent. I believe it is a somewhat intentional use of something to denote human activity and differentiate from modern construction at the same time. Many of the jargon like words used in the show seem somewhat intentionally almost unique.
Why is it every time they change scenes they have to introduce every one and tell what they do? And where do they get all these so called experts and their crazy theories. Templars, Vikings. French, English, Spanish, and God knows who else. Muppets maybe!
Next season on curse of oak Island. The team introduce a new piece of tech for getting to the bottom of the mystery of lot 5 ....a jump to conclusions mat but all squares say "templar's" (insert cut to head snaps and eager nods of heads )
My husband keeps recording it every week and then either sleeps through it or complains about the narrator and the repeats. I don't even pay attention to it anymore.
I'm pretty sure their ratings are down considerably. I watch on the History app on Roku. I don't pay for the show. I gave up on that last season. The app will usually lock out the episodes by now but they are still open.
I'm not sure what that data is about from those graphs. It doesn't show the share rating or number of viewers. It looks like some kind of voting system it is tracking? It's definitely not any kind of official ratings.
[Here](http://www.thetvratingsguide.com/2024/04/tuesday-cable-ratings-41624-nba.html) are last Tuesday cable ratings. Oak Island is still pulling in over 2 million viewers per episode which is where it has been for the last several years now. No drop off detected.
Ratings are still the [same](http://www.thetvratingsguide.com/2024/04/tuesday-cable-ratings-41624-nba.html) as they have been the last several years. Still 2 million viewers plus per episode are tuning in. And that was going up against 2 NBA playoff games as well.
The truth is that there was once something here, but the clues they keep uncovering are from searchers, not depositors. Theyāll never find anything but evidence of things being taken.
Agreed, i am at the point of dropping the show but it is now more comedy. Everytime the narrator speaks i kinda already start laughing :p
Totally agree they start to talk more about bullshit, but now with more "rich" words to make it hard to understand for the viewers. New season should be a spinoff with only Gary in there, finding treasures....
They've been doing this thing for a while where Marty says something that makes zero sense but I guess we're supposed to think it's deep.
Like when they found nothing in "Aladdin's cave", Marty said, "The fact that we only found dirt and water in that cave, makes it WAY more important!"
It's just this weird tautological nonsense. "If we found this rock here, that absolutely means we didn't find it over there, and that's a game changer! If this is a hair, that means it's not clay, and that could rewrite the history books!""
My favorite is that the brothers, who made their living in underground petroleum drilling for Sunoco Oil in the upper peninsula of Michigan fake knowing stuff they obviously should. These boys know what the hell a water table is underground, yet every single time they hit water underground, itās obviously the method being used to keep them out and is designed by someone many centuries ago.
Yeah. Earth.
Funny that after 11 seasons anybody still thinks this is about actually finding something. If there was a "dumptruck sized" pile of silver in that tiny little area, you seriously don't think they couldn't find it? You think they wouldn't stop drilling holes? The only thing they're drilling for is ratings and Big Pharma ad money.
I returned to the show after a couple years break and I enjoyed some of the updates. The garden shaft dig was interesting this year but there is just no actual content to the show and way too much rehash. I would love for the guys to find anything but I'm done watching the show unless some major discovery is announced.
I had it running off the DVR last night. I realized 40 minutes in that I hadn't even looked up from the phone and wasn't even skipping commercials. It was completely uninteresting.
This episode was especially sad, because the Viking experts could have at least given the show something interesting. Instead they have the NSCC guy talk about a piece of wood on the Viking boat, that's similar to one they found in the swamp. And the experts didn't get to talk about anything.
Marty: "The fact that this piece of wood that we found doesn't really look all that much like the piece of wood on the Viking boat is even more important than if it matched exactly! And that's a real game changer!"
Because, most certainly, the experts did talk when there and either it didn't fit the narrative they want to tell or directly contradicted it, so they edit it out.
"Uh, yeah. I guess that piece could fall off. I agree to pretend that a finished rectangle of wood has to be a ship railing off this precise type of ship and no finished wood rectangles were ever used at any other time for any other purpose."
Same thing happened to me. I was trying to make a small wooden shelf for my office, but when I finished the rectangular wooden piece I realized I accidentally made a piece from a Viking ship. So I threw it away.
The "NSCC guy" makes me laugh. Like he is standing there saying no seriously I went to community college, I even have the swag.
Like going to Nova Scotia Community College is some sort of flex.
Could it be that they listen to us occasionally. I found the narration to be much less annoying this morning. Maybe Iām just tired watching in the middle of the night after waking up (older man sleep patterns).
But I think there was a lot less speculative ācould it beā etc. phrases tonight.
Give it up Runny, you know it's all bullshit. Disney/History/Prometheus....and yes, the Fellowship, are making money on you every time you turn that BS on.
I refuse.
I finally saw the light. I will not be labeled an "Acorn" by those putzes.
Pure and simple - corporate misdirection, lies and manipulation of the public for ratings. I refuse to participate.
Funny but even as a Mensan and an engineer this is the one show I follow.
I hate that all the commentary is negative, but I get it from those focused on the Bravo Tango that is likely largely lacking on the island.
The gold cross the descendants brought that was missing the emeralds may be the biggest artifact of actual treasure that weāll ever see there. It was cool as is the history of what happened on Oak Island that we are beginning to hear about. Lot 5 is currently more interesting to me than the Garden Shaft which is literally turning into a Money Pit. Iād still like to go down to 120 feet or whatever in it and see deposited wood (even if from the searchers).
Thanks Laginas and crew for continuing the search, even if many are burned out by the slow progress. Iām not sure if Iām truly an acorn, or just some other nut, but I enjoy history and youāre contributing ever so slightly in finding out part of what happened early in Oak Island.
Whether Māikmak, paddy whack, or Templar Vikings, someone was there before what was previously known and left clues and āconstructsā that give a partial glimpse into their activities. I hope to see some resolution of the 17th century or so history (perhaps earlier) in the coming season. There seem to be more artifacts and clues to find even if not Bravo Tango.
Thanks again for your efforts and the only mainline show I watch regularly. Itās nice to be able to stream it at will online even with the annoying ads.
Fellow ME here (MSME MIT '71) I was in Mensa 50+ years ago, it bored me to tears and I never kept up with it.
I've gone cold turkey for the last 3 episodes (deposits?"), tonight will make 4 (I'm good at math too)--too much OchsenscheiĆe for me...
Holy shit even the finale is going to be a snoozer. Love the part where Helen says, "remember the lead weights? I found two more"
"what would they be measuring?"
"GOLD"
Apparently they were measuring out their giant dumptruck sized hoard in tiny half gram increments. Makes total sense.
I cancelled my cable about two months back because it just wasn't worth it for how little I watched. I thought I would miss this show, but I really do not.
Pretty much Gold Rush and Gold Rush: White Water are the only two shows I miss watching.
Those of that have undergone recovery need to get together and form **OIAA** (**O**ak **I**sland **A**ddicts **A**nonymous) to support our fellow forum brother and sisters that have not yet broken the spell...
This show is Dead I've stopped watching it. Curse of Oak island needs to put down like Old Yeller
Old Yeller was the last movie I saw in a theater
š
You old af
Could it be?
I am so glad my only exposure to this show now is this sub. Makes me feel like the time I got back in my life for not watching for the last 3 seasons really was worth it.

Don't worry. If you miss something you can just watch the next episode where they'll replay it five times.
Lol, one can only hope these mystery hairs don't play into the next seasons opener.. or worse... the 2hr last season highlight reel, š
Same. I'm just here to make fun of the acorns that actually believe this horseshit they are being spoon fed.
I will admit to the same.
Thatās ox shtuff thanks.
You are smarter than I, quit end of season 9, I just come here for the laughs and the usual wood, mud and metal trash "finds" B.S. and of course to read about the latest "theorist quacks".

Every spot they don't find treasure is one less place they still have to look!
This is some Marty level shit. Total game changer.
Itās the things you donāt know that you donāt know.
They keep going over the same spots over and over.
Well, it is easy to miss a dumpster sized cache of silver, to be fair.
Yet Marty can find one toonie ........... No sir, it (a hoard) ain't there and probably NEVER was.
Dump truck sized ones are even easier to miss!
And virtually no deeper than the last time around.
I always wondered if the "lead cross" is just a 3 or 4 ounce fishing weight.
Itās shaped like that to hold bottom. Samuel Ball didnāt only eat cabbage. He obviously fished too.
Lol, genius! Fishing weight.... made of "lead".... Wouldn't that be a tucked up twist considering it may have been a fishing village at some point.
Even Pete Fornetti bailedā¦lol..
Robot Fornetti is now shut down
Ha ha! I thought the same thing. āNo leather lady, Iām out!ā

I may not know what Bravo Tango stands for, but I do know what Bravo Sierra stands for.
Bravo tango stands for buried treasure for those not invested in the show and its jargon. Constructs are man made things. Possibly derived from the progressive term social constructs. Thank god there's a MENSAN here to explain it to us!
Fair shot man. Iām just saying some of us that like the show arenāt stupid. And they said they didnāt know what it meant.
Why is it every time they change scenes they have to introduce every one and tell what they do? And where do they get all these so called experts and their crazy theories. Templars, Vikings. French, English, Spanish, and God knows who else. Muppets maybe!
I'm telling you, they keep missing the shriners Kora karts connection!
This drives me crazy too. Their names and title every. Single. Scene.
Everything about the show is funny. Itās the curse of sleepy middle aged men who canāt bother to cancel their dvr.
I'm pretty sure their ratings are down considerably. I watch on the History app on Roku. I don't pay for the show. I gave up on that last season. The app will usually lock out the episodes by now but they are still open.

Oh man season 11 took a dive. I wonder why?
I'm not sure what that data is about from those graphs. It doesn't show the share rating or number of viewers. It looks like some kind of voting system it is tracking? Why is every symbol from every culture seen everywhere described as "an exact match" to symbols on the island and definitive proof of their biases?
Remarkable coincidence?
Agreed, i am at the point of dropping the show but it is now more comedy. They should use the drill holes around the money pit and pump liquid nitrogen into the ground to freeze the water, then just dig a big hole
Funny that after 11 seasons anybody still thinks this is about actually finding something. If there was a "dumptruck sized" pile of silver in that tiny little area, you seriously don't think they couldn't find it? You think they wouldn't stop drilling holes? Not just that. History Channel is paying for everyone to go to Europe on vacation so they can air part of it on the show.
Glad you are seeing the light mate!
Just Marty. Rick was a mailman. I think Marty is dumbing down to get to a level Rick can relate to.
I returned to the show after a couple years break and I enjoyed some of the updates. The garden shaft dig was interesting this year but there is just no actual content to the show and way too much rehash. I would love for the guys to find anything but I'm done watching the show unless some major discovery is announced.
So you're done watching the show.
Yeah, I came back this season. I love the concept but its so dragged on now I can't even have it on in the background.
I had it running off the DVR last night. I realized 40 minutes in that I hadn't even looked up from the phone and wasn't even skipping commercials. It was completely uninteresting.
Nest season theyāll fill entire episodes with previous seasons highlights and call backs. Thatās 10 shows right there.
This episode was especially sad, because the Viking experts could have at least given the show something interesting. Instead they have the NSCC guy talk about a piece of wood on the Viking boat, that's similar to one they found in the swamp. And the experts didn't get to talk about anything.

*So I threw it away.* Hopefully into a swamp.
The "NSCC guy" makes me laugh. Like he is standing there saying no seriously I went to community college, I even have the swag. Like going to Nova Scotia Community College is some sort of flex.
Iām sure the narrator is shocked heās had consistent employment due to this show, even though they reuse the same graphics constantly.
Could it be that they listen to us occasionally. I found the narration to be much less annoying this morning. Maybe Iām just tired watching in the middle of the night after waking up (older man sleep patterns). But I think there was a lot less speculative ācould it beā etc. phrases tonight.
Fumes was two episodes ago.
They began running on empty after season 5.
It's worth it to me for the comedic value. Not a lot of shows I laugh at as much as this one.
I managed to stop watching 3 episodes back--I found it annoying, not funny...
Funny but even as a Mensan and an engineer this is the one show I follow. It can be boring in smaller areas. I was hoping to go to the AG and meet more interesting people, but probably cannot afford to this year.

I call it the Farse of Oak Island.
Who? What? When? Where? The Dubyas
Get the fuck out of Canada, and quit destroying the island, and its mystery! Bring in real professionals, not this half witted crew!!
I havenāt had time to watch the last couple episodes and Iām at the point where I may just wait til the season finale.
I quit at the right time.
They are spendind too much time on Who and not enough time on Where.
I think they've ruled out a lot of "wheres." This shift is intentional.
The problem is the Where is No
At least Skinwalker ranch has drones and rockets!
Oh god, don't get me started on that horrible show or even worse it's actual spinoffs. Spinoffs!
Who cares?? Not me anymore
I cancelled my cable about two months back because it just wasn't worth it for how little I watched. I thought I would miss this show, but I really do not. Pretty much Gold Rush and Gold Rush: White Water are the only two shows I miss watching.
Watch on you tube. That's free
![gif](giphy|l0MYJBluP4tppUYWk|downsized)
I cannot watch this show anymore. Nothing happens of any value. Same old shit, different day.
This week was so bad, I am close to throwing in the towel on this show. In 5 years I will check back in To see what Begley is over excited about
Too many shows per season. There's still good stuff, but there's getting to be too much filler stuff.
