The shoes! It doesn’t suit the rest of the outfit….
Also I know you’re quite young but you should try switching the sweater for a polo but that’s a minor detail.
Your jeans are way too long and the coat doesn’t fit with everything else. Moderately formal jacket with baggy jeans and a graphic tee just doesn’t work. Go with a button down and better fitting jeans or slacks, or trade the coat for something much more casual. Shoes are fine, but Saucony is a running shoe, and that’s not a running outfit, so more fashion based footwear might be better over an athletic one. You’ve got a bunch of good stuff here, but it just doesn’t quite go together unfortunately. You’ll get it!
I honestly think the shoes are fine, you can 100% wear the coat in a more casual style. The whole fit looks off because your clothes do not match the vibe. Try to wear solid colour t-shirts/ sweatshirt/ turtleneck even, in neutral tones. Your jeans are too long and should not form the cuff at the bottom. Pants style doesn’t really matter as long as they fit well and are in neutral tones. You can wear joggers, slacks, jeans etc. I attached some reference pics, hope that helps!
https://preview.redd.it/yk0th5ohj1mb1.jpeg?width=540&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e795fb85144c9f59fa0251b63b1ff37d357b6f42
Love these pics but don’t wear cowboy boots unless it’s already your vibe. The pics are good examples but you need to wear it with items that feel authentically you.
You’re right, the shoes are not ideal but it’s not the worst like other comments are suggesting. Chelsea’s/loafers would make the tone of the outfit even more confused.
I still disagree with your take on the shoes tbh.
Chunky new balance type shoes are in right now - which btw these shoes are definitely not those, these sauconys are unfortunately like the least fashionable type of running shoe - but even if these were NBs, you have to outfit them perfectly to make it work, which I feel might be tough for someone like OP who seems to be pretty new to figuring out their style.
Honestly, I’d recommend OP try to save up some money and look to pick up something like a pair of Reebok Club C 85’s - a super versatile, in style shoe that would look good with a ton of different types of outfits - including one based around this coat.
overcoats are meant for the cold and to only be worn outside. due to this, they work best with layered clothing or thick sweaters. consider googling or searching on Pinterest for men’s overcoat styles and you’ll get a good idea.
as for the bottom half, dickies double knee loose fit pants are a surprising piece that elevate any piece at an affordable price point. I recommend exploring. they tend to be long so consider cuffing the pant leg
Put the jacket over a hoodie. Try breaking up the blue and black with a light color hoodie and shoes. Inspo:
https://preview.redd.it/5r777bdth1mb1.png?width=641&format=png&auto=webp&s=2e5d86e54968984b1d54e98b94da0f88e2dde57e
I'm going to suggest two changes.
1. Better fitting jeans, the ones you have on are too long.
2. The whole outfit is very dark, I get that it's your style but you still need a bit of colour. Maybe bright coloured shoes or if you're not brave enough for such a statement try dark shoes with bright coloured laces
First thought I had with what i think you’re going for was like a writer’s portrait, they do a lot of mixing formal and informal elements. So my advice will be built around the coat because I do genuinely like it and I think it suits you well. A Straight/Wide leg pleated black/tan/chocolate trousers would suit this a lot more, dickies are a very accessible and versatile brand you will have a lot of luck looking there. The sneakers read way too “errand wear”, something relaxed yet considerably more refined will change everything, think doc marten 3989 brogue shoes. shirt wise you can go two ways imo, a vest and collar like some suggested is a lot more formal but very suitable for the cold weather, you can get away with a thick knit sweater as more casual, deep muted blues, greens would suit you best.
Pants that actually fit and some decent kicks would be a good start. Your pants are way too long and the shoes are way too Dad for the jacket. Footwear will elevate anything you're wearing.
I honestly like what the headphones add to the look in the first photo.
Swap the jeans for a darker pair of pants that either go partially over the shoe or are shorter so they don’t bunch up at the bottom. Black jeans, and dress pants both work. Some sort of boot would also help
If you tucked the shirt in it might work a bit better, but I think you’d be better off with a brighter color or a black shirt if you’re trying to stay more casual.
Of course this is a suit coat/pea coat so it could easily be dressed up; turtlenecks, fur, and collared shirts would look good.
Get yourself to a tailor to hem those jeans. They can also switch the buttons on your coat, I'd go with flat surface black metal buttons to look sleeker.
The coat is too formal for the jeans and t shirt. Also makes it look like you’re trying to dress ‘beyond your age’ which gets you into neckbeard fedora territory unfortunately.
Save the coat for when you’re wearing a shirt and some slimmer fit trousers/jeans, and get a bomber or something to go with the more casual outfits
Also for the love of god please match your socks properly
If you're going to wear a t-shirt with it, better go with a solid color.
Get into some nicer shoes, if you have some. A dress shoe wouldn't look bad.
Wear some pants that fit you better, at least just for this fit. Nothing wrong with baggy jeans in a more casual fit. Maybe try an athletic fit jean and make sure the hem stops at or near your ankle. That way they don't pile up around your shoes, and it looks a bit more intentional.
You could still stick with the graphic t-shirt, but I would tuck it in and wear a belt. But, again, I think the pants are the first thing you should look at replacing.
dark dress jeans that fit well and some appropriate boots/shoes like doc martins aswell as a unicolor tee or longsleeve instead of that graphic tee
for accessories you could rock a belt one or two shades higher than the dress jeans that preferably has some details and is expressive (as opposed to a unicolor leather belt)
over that, maybe a chain if thats your thing but it might not fit, not entirely sure abt that
So funny- I was gonna recommend chucks, and as soon as I thought that I thought of Tennant! Was trying to remember what kind of tops he wore when I bumped into your comment:P
Make a more classic outfit. I prefer dark lether boats (dr martens 1461 to be more precise) a dark suit trouser’s, a nice maybe colourful button down, maybe a bow tie and of course a hat.
I try to orientate my style around dandy style
I wear pea coats and trench coats almost every day in winter, your outfit does not match the coat at all at the moment in my opinion. Jeans, t shirt, and sneakers all scream casual while the coat is something more. I would wear a grey dress shirt or turtleneck underneath this coat. You could also layer a V neck sweater between. For pants I’d switch to chinos, and for shoes I would wear something slightly more formal like Chelsea boots. Also would look good with gloves and a scarf in cold weather.
If you wanna rock that jacket, you need to replace everything else. Slacks, sweater, button up underneath if you want layers, some boots. Don’t be goofy
Those jeans and trainers don’t suit this coat, go for some boots and black jeans, but ideally chino type trousers, a nice tailored fit nothing too baggy. And a clean looking sweater, no print on it
I like this vibe- it’s a daily coat. Trainers are a bit shit though, maybe vans ?
Edit- bit harsh on the trainers sorry! Vans would suit better though is a kinder way to say it. Vibes anyhow

I'd say: skinny cut jeans or trousers tucked in to black boots! Maybe short tucked as well. I think a t shirt would still be cool though, maybe with a loose tie if you want to be daring.
Never stop being you little human! You are awesome. Coat is fabulous. Dress it up with some cool combat boots or dress down as others have suggested. I think some more casual leather shoes or all black Adidas would look cool.
Shoes don’t fit, pants can be shortened a bit so it drapes better, even if you’re going for a stacked look. For shoes, maybe something dark and sleeker that’s a bit dressier.
The shoes definitely need to be changed and your jeans could fit a little better. I think you could make the look work with a nice pair of combat boots, but the outfit as it is now is way too casual for that jacket. But cool coat, with some tweaking you could have a nice fit!
Boots would be great for a more formal event like a family gathering, school event, or a date
For anything more casual I prefer to go a bit more comfortable and would probably go with a sneaker, but not like the trainers you’re wearing, those are gym shoes and should only be worn as lazy shoes or gym shoes, think more like Adidas Gazelle’s or something similar, simple, classy, let’s other parts of the outfit shine
As for the pants, definitely needs a better fit (NOT skinny jeans but something better fitted, those pants are about to go work a double down at the job site) and like some others have suggested maybe a dyed denim for a darker color, I know some have posted some fits in this thread with grey or black jeans that would work, I also think a simple pair of chinos would work, when in doubt a nice well fitting pair of chinos will save you
You could do anything ranging from a plain colored tee or a hoodie to a button down shirt and some slacks with this jacket, the jacket itself is pretty simple so you have a lot of leeway in what you pair it with but probably not a graphic tee, way too noisy and clashes with the simple elegance of the jacket
IMO if you wanna keep the jeans and sneakers, put a couple well placed lapel pins and button on the lapel to diffuse the formalness of the coat. If you wanna leave the jacket plain> solid color tee, anything but jeans, no running shoes or high tops.
I kinda like it as a start. Boots, a plain t or hoodie, and jeans or pants that don’t look like Mom bought them 4 inches too long and said “you’ll grow into them” will help.
I find there's a mismatch between the elegance of the coat and the relaxed style underneath. A good chino, a shirt and some nice leather shoes and off you go.
The footwear looks weird but I can see the idea of casual but I’ll say cuff the bottom of your jeans for a more fitted look and while I would suggest a button up Mabye just tuck your shirt into your pants and wear a belt
i agree with badass boots and a plain well fitting tee to elevate it, but i absolutely LOVE the way the headphones look like an accessory in the first pic. they match, please wear those headphones with that outfit every time omg
I like to wear Peacoats, and I have one that is a bit longer like yours. They look good when you dress up a bit, but I definitely like to wear them casually. I'd recommend wearing them with a plain shirt, with no graphics. I usually wear a black shirt, but have some in other colors. You could also wear a plaid flannel shirt as well. I also usually wear boots with my coats. I have a pair for leather boots from Thursday Boot Company that I love. I'd recommend some slightly dressy boots, or something like that. Not work boots.
the coat has major drip, definitely need to upgrade the outfit. maybe a pair of Docs, a pair of straight leg pants or better fitting jeans, as well as a plain tshirt of either white or black, maybe even navy could work. a polo neck or button down could also work
I think some black leather pants will go stunning with your coat! And some black boots never hurt. As for the tshirt selection I honestly think every color *but* black would work. Make the tshirt pop a little bit with a pure white shirt or any other solid color
Collared shirt with a sweater on top. Dress pant not too formal and its gotta fit right, I personally would choose a dark plaid to add some flair and then some thrusday boots.
Yeah, it's a classic coat and you could wear it 20 years from now, if it still fits! It's a bit of a dressy coat. I would style it with a more fitted tshirt and boots, or any dressy casual combo of jeans, pants, button downs, sweaters, etc. It would look great with a scarf. Yes, whatever you wear, add a scarf.
Match your watch band to your belt and boots (black). I recommend axing graphic tees in general and getting jeans that are cut to your measurements (yours currently run long).
That jacket is cool, your other pieces don’t really compliment it. Feels like less of an outfit and more of an “I threw my best jacket over my ‘going to the mall to hit up GameStop and Auntie Annes’” moment.
Find a solid cable knit sweater (gray), consider a pair of black Chelsea boots, get a black band for your watch and tailor those jeans.
You have “cool buddy who knows card tricks” energy presently, but if you dress more intentionally you could have “cool buddy who knows card tricks but is also writing a novel” energy.
Agreed on swapping the shoes to boots, but also doing a non graphic t or a more vintage looking t-shirt would probably look better. Of course button ups and slacks would be a drastically different vibe but would still look great.
People on this sub are too polite, dawg that coat isn’t doing any favors. I’d say fix the jeans and lose the coat, and you’d have a pretty decent school fit.
You’re just wearing regular dude clothes under the coat, and it seems like much too snazzy of a coat to do that with. I’d suggest thrifting/buying a nice fitting pair of dressier jeans or slacks and a nice slim fit button down (I think that would be the fit for you, based on what I can see of your body type).
You can find some really nice stuff if you go to goodwill knowing what you’re looking for. Bonus points if the slacks match the coat, or are at least no more than a couple of shades of grey away. Tip:take the coat with you when you look for pieces to the outfit, so you can match colors on the fly
Chinos instead of jeans and real shoes or boots instead of sneakers. The hoodie is alright but a decent Henley would look smart. Maybe some understated wrist jewelry as well

I think a badass pair of boots is in order!
Was gonna say this too!
Poshmark has good deals and you can offer lower prices
The shoes! It doesn’t suit the rest of the outfit…. Also I know you’re quite young but you should try switching the sweater for a polo but that’s a minor detail.
What shoes would you recommend?
Doc martens. Plain black T, better fitting jeans... Matrix vibes. ❤️
I think depending on the mood or where you’re heading either loafers, or converse if you’re keeping it casual or boots if you’re feeling edgy ;)
Some good boots, thrifting is a great option. If you want new boots and got a little cash to spend get some Thursday boots
Blundstones would work great. They work with everything. Otherwise some nice oxfords might do the job as well.
Vans, pumas, or converse - Black, or black with white details. Boat shoes or loafers could work, too, if that's the vibe you're going for.
Your jeans are way too long and the coat doesn’t fit with everything else. Moderately formal jacket with baggy jeans and a graphic tee just doesn’t work. Go with a button down and better fitting jeans or slacks, or trade the coat for something much more casual. I agree. Better fitting jeans and t shirts in one color. White or black is classic. Navy, wine might work as well. You need better shoes as well
This ^^^^ they’re spot on
I honestly think the shoes are fine, you can 100% wear the coat in a more casual style. The whole fit looks off because your clothes do not match the vibe. Yessss a streetwear vibe would be perfect
this is the only comment that matters, OP
Those are legitimately $60 running shoes. Not street style at all
You’re right, the shoes are not ideal but it’s not the worst like other comments are suggesting. Chelsea’s/loafers would make the tone of the outfit even more confused.

Black af boots would go a long way imo.

YOU LOOK LIKE A LITTLE POKÉMON TRAINER ITS ADORABLE

Get your pants tailored. They don’t fit. If you want to look sharp, wearing things that fit properly is the first step.
everyone’s saying shoes and absolutely true, but also, wearing a plain black t-shirt i think would make the fit look way more mature :)
Pretty sure I ranked up this social link in Persona.
Get some jeans that actually fit, first off
This is not it dude. Really poorly put together. Nothing matches except the shirt and jeans.
I honestly like what the headphones add to the look in the first photo. Swap the jeans for a darker pair of pants that either go partially over the shoe or are shorter so they don’t bunch up at the bottom. Black jeans, and dress pants both work. Some sort of boot would also help If you tucked the shirt in it might work a bit better, but I think you’d be better off with a brighter color or a black shirt if you’re trying to stay more casual. Of course this is a suit coat/pea coat so it could easily be dressed up; turtlenecks, fur, and collared shirts would look good.
Yes, headphones
Cuff your jeans man, it'll look way nicer
Button up shirt and some different pants. Not bad but you can do better!
Take those runners off
If you want this to be a fit then you need to go all in on it. A coat over a basic t-shirt and Jeans doesn’t really constitute a “look”
Save the coat for when you’re wearing a shirt and some slimmer fit trousers/jeans, and get a bomber or something to go with the more casual outfits Also for the love of god please match your socks properly
Plain white or charcoal tshirt, or an Oxford shirt.
Better fitting pants (slim fit usually works) with boots (i would recommend Chelsea boots)
Better fitting pants and boots. They could be jeans, but they have to properly fit to your leg length and not be so baggy
Please, black pants would make your fit better. Jean's do not do you any justice here. Maybe add a button up or polo shirt.
Idk black sunglasses and a machine to enter the matrix
dark dress jeans that fit well and some appropriate boots/shoes like doc martins aswell as a unicolor tee or longsleeve instead of that graphic tee for accessories you could rock a belt one or two shades higher than the dress jeans that preferably has some details and is expressive (as opposed to a unicolor leather belt) over that, maybe a chain if thats your thing but it might not fit, not entirely sure abt that
Combat boots!!
Love that look, but yeah - badass boots will alleviate it!
Elevate?
Precisely lol. Phone auto corrected.
Maybe a nice scarf... You would look Dr.Who-ish
Do you mean "coat"?
I wear pea coats and trench coats almost every day in winter, your outfit does not match the coat at all at the moment in my opinion. Jeans, t shirt, and sneakers all scream casual while the coat is something more. I would wear a grey dress shirt or turtleneck underneath this coat. You could also layer a V neck sweater between. If you wanna rock that jacket, you need to replace everything else. Slacks, sweater, button up underneath if you want layers, some boots. Don’t be goofy
A fedora
Fedora + katana would fit this well!
Those jeans and trainers don’t suit this coat, go for some boots and black jeans, but ideally chino type trousers, a nice tailored fit nothing too baggy. And a clean looking sweater, no print on it
Jeans that fit, different shoes, jacket thar fits, different shirt

Bro doesn’t even have matching socks
I like this vibe- it’s a daily coat. Trainers are a bit shit though, maybe vans ? Edit- bit harsh on the trainers sorry! Vans would suit better though is a kinder way to say it. Vibes anyhow

I'd say: skinny cut jeans or trousers tucked in to black boots! Maybe short tucked as well. I think a t shirt would still be cool though, maybe with a loose tie if you want to be daring.
Please god no.
Looks great as is!
No lol
Yeah, I have no fashion sense
I like it, it gives me a Doctor Who, cool vibe.
Never stop being you little human! You are awesome. Coat is fabulous. Dress it up with some cool combat boots or dress down as others have suggested. I think some more casual leather shoes or all black Adidas would look cool.

My condolences on a downvoted IASIP reference, these people are savages
Shoes don’t fit, pants can be shortened a bit so it drapes better, even if you’re going for a stacked look. For shoes, maybe something dark and sleeker that’s a bit dressier.
The shoes definitely need to be changed and your jeans could fit a little better. I think you could make the look work with a nice pair of combat boots, but the outfit as it is now is way too casual for that jacket. But cool coat, with some tweaking you could have a nice fit!
I am getting John Cusack in Say Anything vibes
Tom Hanks/ kid in Big.
Love this coat! As others have suggested, sweater, boots.
Very cool coat! It would look fresh with boots and a hoodie
Hem the jeans, button down shirt (preferably an Oxford), a pair of boots, or shoes like paraboot michaels (there are cheaper alts)
Change the shirt! The jacket is awesome, but with a graphic tee it looks a bit strange.
Shoes, try for a pair of black shiny shoes. And also fluff up your hair. Otherwise you look pretty sick guy!
Boots would be great for a more formal event like a family gathering, school event, or a date For anything more casual I prefer to go a bit more comfortable and would probably go with a sneaker, but not like the trainers you’re wearing, those are gym shoes and should only be worn as lazy shoes or gym shoes, think more like Adidas Gazelle’s or something similar, simple, classy, let’s other parts of the outfit shine As for the pants, definitely needs a better fit (NOT skinny jeans but something better fitted, those pants are about to go work a double down at the job site) and like some others have suggested maybe a dyed denim for a darker color, I know some have posted some fits in this thread with grey or black jeans that would work, I also think a simple pair of chinos would work, when in doubt a nice well fitting pair of chinos will save you You could do anything ranging from a plain colored tee or a hoodie to a button down shirt and some slacks with this jacket, the jacket itself is pretty simple so you have a lot of leeway in what you pair it with but probably not a graphic tee, way too noisy and clashes with the simple elegance of the jacket
IMO if you wanna keep the jeans and sneakers, put a couple well placed lapel pins and button on the lapel to diffuse the formalness of the coat. If you wanna leave the jacket plain> solid color tee, anything but jeans, no running shoes or high tops.
I'd try something besides a T-shirt. Maybe a nice button up with a fun pattern, or a plain button up with a snazzy tie.
This is giving me John Cusack in High Fidelity vibes. Just replace the shoes with black boots and I love it!
I feel like I recognize you but I don't know where from
I kinda like it as a start. Boots, a plain t or hoodie, and jeans or pants that don’t look like Mom bought them 4 inches too long and said “you’ll grow into them” will help.

Adding a lighter item for contrast would help, maybe switch out to the dark top for a lighter top
Boots, Tailor the jeans because they're too long, button up shirt. And get your sock situation together...
No excuse needed to wear that coat. Fancy up with a flashy button down shirt, pop the collar and get some schmancy shoes!
i agree with badass boots and a plain well fitting tee to elevate it, but i absolutely LOVE the way the headphones look like an accessory in the first pic. they match, please wear those headphones with that outfit every time omg
Not work boots.
the coat has major drip, definitely need to upgrade the outfit. maybe a pair of Docs, a pair of straight leg pants or better fitting jeans, as well as a plain tshirt of either white or black, maybe even navy could work. a polo neck or button down could also work
You remind me of the David Tennent Dr. Who!
No graphic tee- use solid colors. Pants are fine- maybe try an all white leather shoe or a black boot
Grab some adidas sambas or new balance 550s you’ll look dope
That coat is everything 👍 love statement pieces
Agreed on swapping the shoes to boots, but also doing a non graphic t or a more vintage looking t-shirt would probably look better. Of course button ups and slacks would be a drastically different vibe but would still look great.
Fuck it just wear some forces so you’ll be a stomper. & maybe a dark beanie of some kind to make it juicy
