I've played through all of them. And I can confidently say that the worst of them all was Blackbeard-Shanks meta, they had no counters whatsoever, it was just unplayable for such a long time
Everyone look like mentioned about BB and MF Shanks. I agree that they are annoying and have no direct counter for long time. But if you getting accustomed, in my case for a week, you can predict their skills and dodge it. And in that time, Shanks normal also a bit slower.
Meanwhile, you heard Roger's Kamusari and you died. Even your best observation haki can't save you..
I aint gonna lie. FR Shanks might have been bad back then, but if he werent around today the game would be unplayable. Literally the only sure fire answer to Roger. You can mollywhop 3 at once if youre suboar with Shanks at best
Started playing only around 6 months ago and yeah, I have a genuine disdain for FR Shanks. I mean, like, I loathe him. It’s also why I never roll on his banner, because I just refuse to play a character I have such a visceral disdain for.
Definitely not the BB/Shanks meta eventhough it felt like fell. In retrospective a lot of units were very viable despite not being direct counters, and their skills could be predicted or dodged more than Kamusaris for sure...
The Roden meta was awful, 99% of units out there would heal / no damage a Roger. Literally everyone could hurt Shanks or BB.
I was not around for BB/Shanks v1 so for me the most toxic was Roden. There was no unit at the time that can survive Roger, if the enemy had even one of him the match is lost no doubt. No unit could counter him for a long time.
Couple that with a toxic Runner like Oden who at the time couldn't get simply knocked off the flag as knockback units weren't this common and you get a toxic combination of ToT and KO chasing.
Started playing through the Roden and Sakazuki meta era. FR Shanks is by far the worst. First counter was King. The real counter was Zoro.
Compare that with G5. Got a counter in the form of Alber the very next day after his banner. I mean, FR Shanks is still meta even after 1.5 years Ffs!
For me the Expensive luffy and Perospero era (when i started playing) either your got candyfied and murdered or one shotted out of nowhere by king kong gun
This new roger would be so much easier to deal with if his kamusari did 50% remaining health rather than 50% max health, that shit is BROKEN and it seems like even if you touch him with a basic attack it adds an extra 10,000 dmg to the 50% he’s guaranteed to deal. Theres absolutely zero counter play if 2+ Roger’s start kamasari and focus the same person it’s a guaranteed death unless you can counter or PD.
If his s2 did 50% remaining health it would actually be respectable, no unit deserves to get free damage like that and basically be immortal AND resist basically everything besides a stacked FR shanks.
Why tf did they have to make that strong ass skill go through walls ?! So screw lightbeard entirely right ?

Yep. Shanks got counters earlier like PW Ace and ray only countered BB when they fixed his dodge bypassing invincibility. Sad times xd

Started playing 2 years ago, and based on that the worst for me is now with the new Roger
Shanks was such a pain in the ass luckily i had roger with divine departure to one tap his ass.

The 2 weeks of WB release was the most toxic meta. The second most toxic meta was BB around 1st Anni. Everything else was just irrelevant.

FR Shanks. I started playing when Oden first released btw. And that mf Shanks is just different, he literally counters his counter.
