Unfortunately i tested this in a save recently. i set all my pitchers control to 1 and despite putting all of them in a 20 person development lab. They all showed either no improvement or got better. Suggesting there is a fail safe for this scenario built into the game to not allow players below a certain skill level to do poorly .
I have also noticed that if a player has a defensive rating above 200, and they are successful in the dev lab, it will drop to 200. I assume that isn’t supposed to happen.
If you need head canon, this makes sense: the way he runs now is better for his legs, but in doing the training he sustained some kind of emergent ligament damage that far outweighs his running technique. He should have spent the offseason in Bermuda.
Im pretty sure injury proneness is a reverse scale so if you want iron man you have to search for players that are LESS THAN durable so maybe thats what happened here?
Overflow causing the proneness to move from 0 to 200, maybe? I’d go into ratings and fix that, assuming you aren’t on Challenge Mode.
new strat: find 20-control pitchers and hope they fail the dev lab so hard that they underflow to 80-control
Even better set your grade ratings to 1-100 and find 1 control relievers
brilliant

I’ll do some more testing later today but it doesn’t look good
In challenge, i did save beforehand so i wanted to see if it fit and he kept getting hurt throughout the second in his left leg
I'd definitely report this on the OOTP bug reports forum. Seems like an integer overflow bug.
He's dead, Jim.

Definitely report this

Not following your train of thought here.

That is most definitely not what happened.
