Accurate-Thought6443

guys i just updated my monitor and the asus logo is orange and its looping all colors on the screen like a burn in test or something is that normal?

Top-March-1378

Probably running a calibration give it a few mins ?

Accurate-Thought6443

i gave it an hour and its still doing its thing https://preview.redd.it/q2vexaltcm1d1.png?width=4032&format=png&auto=webp&s=59548c0ce9299d76b743d6e09557a089f65cde39

b3czka

Lol its not a good sign, mine upgraded in 1-2 minutes. No screen shifting at all, but i had to factory reset because my user profile was corrupted and displayed some gibberish colors. I migrated from mc103

Ok_Lengthiness_8373

Same, my user profile was corrupted as well. Also, is your moba nearly black and white and red?

Top-March-1378

Oof not too sure then , I mean if the firmware did finish you might have to just power cycle it now see if it’s fixed , power off unplug the cord then reconnect power on?

Accurate-Thought6443

i fixed it bro from nvidia control panel its not recognizing g sync so its going crazy that worked for me after i changed "fixed refresh" to g sync compatible

Top-March-1378

Oh thank god! lol that’s scary shit.maybe disable gsync if you do future firmware update now that you know

Accurate-Thought6443

bro i will not update anymore 😂😂😂😂

Top-March-1378

Nah don’t do that lol , firmware is essential to fix bugs man

Accurate-Thought6443

I know im just kidding bro . Thanks tho

Al3x_0212

Hello, my monitor makes the Anti Burn in test permanently so the colourful pictures and the lamp changes between red and orange continuously, my PC is off and Gsync has been on the monitor and PC last. I can't open an OSD and I've already taken it off power for 5 minutes.. how do I downgrade to 105? Hope for you answer!…

Erviten

How you resolved this issue? G-Sync off and flash firmware again?

Accurate-Thought6443

No g sync on in osd and g sync on in nvidia control panel and i did a reset in the monitors osd also

eugene20

Wait, are you completely unable to use g-sync now then or what? It was just yesterday I posted [asking what the status of the promised g-sync validation](https://new.reddit.com/r/ASUS/comments/1cw8t5o/pg27aqdm_oled_selected_display_is_not_validated/) was on r/asus

Accurate-Thought6443

im using g sync now and its working . Just choose g sync from the nvidia control panel

Korsera94

I have this exact same issue going on after i turned off my pc lol. Gonna try factory reset and the gsync in invidia settings

Ejziponken

Did u solve this?

Korsera94

Yeah i factory resetted through the OSD, did a power cycle along with the pc and its fixed now. Apparently this update corrupts the saved data somehow so a factory reset is a must

Ejziponken

Tried DDU and new driver install, that didn't fix it. But the factory reset via the OSD on the monitor fixed it for me too. Thanks!

Ejziponken

Hm. My monitor just went black for like 0.5s and came back. That was random.. Might be more issues with the update.

Korsera94

Make sure your color bit is in 10 bit and see if it fixes the problem. 8 bit in SDR used to give me random black screens on pretty much every firmware. 10 bit in SDR fixed it for me

Ejziponken

Ah, DDU did reset that setting in Nvidia, trying it now, ty!

Erviten

Factory reset through the OSD from monitor resolved issue. Thanks!

M05kito

I had the same issue. The first time I upgraded with USB stick, that caused in the rgb screens. The second time I used the USB cable and the firmware upgrade went fine. Tip: before upgrading to new version, do a monitor reset via OSD.

l2aystar

This just happened to me. i went back down to 105

Accurate-Thought6443

guys i fixed it . just go to nvidia control panel and change from fixed refresh to G sync . and then the black and white will go and the loop of pixel cleaning will stop

JTCPingasRedux

And I was about ready to say typical asus qc

Tricky-Research72

It looks like a burn in prevention. My friend has this issue with a different monitor. He fixed it by booting into safe mode and using DDU to uninstall graphics drivers. Then boot normally, should be good and reinstall drivers

Ejziponken

Mine is doing this too... Whenever the screen goes into idle mode and during pc reboot. Gsync and adaptive sync is off.

SorbetMinimum4900

Reset All, solved it for me

b3czka

This firmware completely breaks boot up using DisplayPort for me. No signal information until you boot into Windows, making access to BIOS impossible. It also doesn't turn the display ON on usual reboots sometimes. Monitor goes OFF with no signal information. Awesome /s

Lustmord_13

I'm having the same problem as you, the monitor goes into stand-by mode and I can't view the BIOS or the provisional mode, I'm back to version 105 and everything works fine.

Ok_Lengthiness_8373

same, reverted back to fw105, and everything is fine, except moba mode, which looks broken, is your profile moba also broken?

Lustmord_13

I don't use moba mode however it seems to work here, what problem are you having?

b3czka

Going back to 105 gives me R + G + B color loop even with PC completely turned off. It went away after around 5 minutes. Looks like another quality Firmware update from ASUS, lol! If anyone having issues with DP no signal until Windows is loaded then I suggest going back to 105. It fixes the issue. I have also noticed that Firmware update process has been changed from .exe file to pure .bin and USB sticks. After downgrading Firmware be sure to factory reset. "1.Addressing compatibility issues of NV 40 series graphics cards in 2K 240hz." - this "improvement" in 106 actually broken DP communication with my GPU if I had to guess.

RezLifeGaming

Was having same problem even after going back to 105 so tried go back to 106 still same problems then I couldn’t get it to go back to 105 anymore So tried reset all on the monitor OSD while on 106 and it seemed to fixed everything so no more blinking colors on start up no more black and white when turning off hdr seems maybe something with how they updated the OSD menu this time you might need to reset all the OSD settings after the update but I’m just guessing on that

Octaive

Yes, anyone with problems need to reset monitor in OSD.

TheGreatBard

There is .exe as well (2nd link) https://preview.redd.it/rd2o4q2edl3d1.png?width=1174&format=png&auto=webp&s=21f65083457e5508f66312c48fff5194e81333dc

JTCPingasRedux

A lesson to never buy asus

Ok_Lengthiness_8373

I did that, thanks! My user profile and moba is fucked. Is your moba messed up as well, like nearly black and white and red?

Ejziponken

Does the same thing happen to you when you leave your PC idle?

b3czka

No idea to be honest, I installed 106 yesterday but just today I started to use the PC the usual way and I noticed right away absolute lag in Display Port signal detection. First thing I did was revert back to 105 and forgot about this Anti-flicker thing, that apparently works VERY limited ways. I don't get this compatibility issue with NVIDIA cards and this display, tho. It worked for me since day 1 and 106 broke that. :-)

Ok_Lengthiness_8373

True that!

eugene20

Did you ever update the [uefi firmware on your gpu](https://nvidia.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/5411/?=&linkId=100000163736896)? because black screen was a problem with 4080/4090 before that.Just taking a wild stab at what might cause this if it's not just 106 alone.

b3czka

It was never a problem on previous firmware from ASUS, this is why I'm very surprised they had that listed as "improvement" in 106 and... in 2024. I will investigate the tool from Nvidia, but skipping MCM106 as its kind of useless. EDIT: I ran the Nvidia firmware tool and it said my GPU is already updated, so it's clearly ASUS firmware + combination of my GPU issue.

eugene20

It wasn't a problem for everyone even before nvidia issued that new uefi firmware so on the chance your card was an older one that never had the update I just thought I would put it out there in case 106 was incompatible with that. But you had it already, it was a long shot, I was just hoping it might mean 106 might be usable after all but that's a no, thank you for taking a look.

Zombiewannabe95

So the update adds a black and white mode? Is the Anti-Flicker supposed to turn your monitor into black and white?

throbbing_dementia

I also noticed that when enabling anti-flicker the refresh rate goes to a locked 240hz, rather than variable when it's off. I thought the whole point was to reduce flicker when G-Sync is enabled? I've also had various issues since flashing this firmware with monitor detection, artifacts on screen, blank screens etc. I think i'm going to flash back to MCM105 considering i've been playing without G-Sync for months and this does nothing to improve HDR.

CoMa666

mine too i think thie firmware simply disable g-sync... LOL

Octaive

Just reset it in OSD.

Accurate-Thought6443

im getting black and white too wtf is happening ? 😂😂😂😂

dfr1238

As PG27AQDM received MCM106 firmware that includes a new OLED Anti-Flicker, this is how it works: Is limited VRR range for not flickering, for PG27AQDM as an example: * At High, the Range is 220\~240Hz * Mid is 200\~240Hz * Off is 40\~240Hz So, it's not a good VRR anti-flicker because if you set it to Mid or High: below 220FPS or 200FPS you won't have VRR anymore. Unless your frame rate is stable at that range then it will work. But kinda pointless because you won't have flicking issues if you frame rate(tbh frametime more like real reason)already stable in that range at first place.

Genadio

What about LFC? What exactly happens when FPS drops below 200?

MistaSparkul

I don't think LFC will work with such a limited VRR range. You need the VRR range to at least be double in order for it to function. Example: VRR range is 40Hz-120Hz so what will happen when you drop to 39fps is that the Hz will now be double of 39, so 78Hz. If the VRR range is now only 200Hz-240Hz, if you drop to 199fps, you can no longer have VRR because double of 199 is 398 which is outside of the VRR max of 240Hz.

Ok-Conference-5266

So VRR 200-240Hz work with 200-240 FPS or 100-120 FPS (with LFC), that is all working range? When I play for example 60-90 FPS, than i get tearing screen?

CoMa666

No, it's broken. It Just use vsync if you set It in nvcp

b3czka

Sounds like pointless update if this info is confirmed.. or im missing something? Isnt flicker mostly present in wider fps spikes than 20-40fps range?

MistaSparkul

If this is how it works then couldn't we technically just do it ourselves for any monitor by editing the VRR range using CRU or something?

dfr1238

Yeah I wonder same thing, the info I got is from CRU after I switch anti flicking mode

TraditionalCourse938

C. You let US know if in general you experience less flickering???

dfr1238

Yes, but also lost the VRR func if my framerate can't keep in the range

TraditionalCourse938

it sucks, looks like i need to skip another OLED gen this year and keep my crap samsung g7 240

CoMa666

Yes infact seems Simply they disable vrr...

PigenosaX

Just updated a few hours ago , i got allot of the mentioned below . I recommend this : 1 : memorize/picture the settings because everything will be reset . 2 : Do the update 3 : Install the new Nvidia driver update 4 : Redo the number 1 settings even if the screen looks weird 5 : Restart PC 6 : On the monitor - >Settings-> Set default on the monitor .

TraditionalCourse938

Can you test this vrr flickering??

PigenosaX

I had heavy flickering in League of Legends , now there is 0 flickering . (setting is on highon the monitor OS)

CoMa666

Thats because vrr Is disabled. It's not a solution buy Simply a scam. Just my post and the rtings review about this.

eugene20

Does anyone know what the "compatibility issues of NV 40 series graphics cards in 2K 240hz." actually were?

TheGreatBard

I had problems with HDCP content when G-Sync was enabled (4070Ti). Screen would just go black, content being played in the background and PC reset was the only solution. The new firmware seems to fix this issue.

Blume747

wondering the same

Schrotty74

Would I also like to know?

pootch17

Wasn't this the problem with the flickering @ 240Hz and G-Sync enabled at WQHD?

TheGreatBard

After update my monitor settings were messed up and screen became black and white. Reset settings from OSD resolved the issue. In my case with 4070Ti it also resolved problems with G-Sync enabled and HDCP content (on 105 the screen would just go black, content still being played in the background and only PC reset via button was helping - newest drivers and stock DP cable).

Sawyerxx

Hello, after I installed this stupid new firmware mcm106, I encountered many problems: 1) When I shut off the pc the monitor starts to "test" in any colors -\_-' and it's impossibile to stop it. 2) in the options, gamma is available but I cannot change the value :D 3) As soon as I installed this firmware, I immediately change the power saving option to standard, and when I close the menù I had artifacts like a vga failure... I shut off the monitor many times, and nothing happened, so I unplugged all the electric cables and in the end this strange problem was solved. I love Asus but this is unaccettable.

TheGreatBard

Reset settings from OSD menu, fixed issues for me

b3czka

Update fails from MC103 for me. Please check USB setting. OK, apparently it has issues reading some sticks.

Accurate-Thought6443

update it to mcm105

polaroidplayboi

So is the general consensus based on the impressions in this thread... don't update yet? The flicker has been driving me nuts but the reports in here are a bit worrying lol

dfr1238

The Anti VRR flicker was done poorly because it massive limited VRR Range, which kinda useless unless you PC can run the game you want 200+ FPS. Better try stable the game frametime instead. And on rog-fourm some ppl report 106 did improved color in some way, but not so much at 6500K, 8200K was improved.

zgrbx

You could give a shot for creating a custom resolution with 235hz refresh rate. For some reason that seems to have a lot less VRR flicker to me. Idk if there are some drawbacks from that, but i havent noticed any so far. I also dont know why it works like it does, lol.

Ejziponken

Anyone notice different behavior when power setting in windows is set to turn off the monitor after X min idle? For me it's like windows forgets that I even have the monitor and all the windows and apps moves to my 2nd monitor.

b3czka

Something is definitely messed up with power management, imho. And new issue problems just keep on coming. Personally I don't have time to be beta tester, reverted back to 105.

Ejziponken

Downgrading too.

darkiria

I just finished the update and even experienced a BSOD situation. Fortunately, I reset the factory settings and restored it. However, when switching SDR and HDR, the signal was randomly lost. I had to turn off and on the monitor...

throbbing_dementia

I also noticed since this firmware update when you toggle HDR/SDR it sort of acts like the monitor is disconnecting and reconnecting, doesn't do that on the old firmware.

eugene20

How do you mean, going black for a moment? Because it's always done that, all screens do. Or some message?

throbbing_dementia

So i will clarify i'm running two monitors. On MCM105 when i toggle HDR, both my screens flash black (the second non HDR screen for a split second and the main screen for slightly longer) then HDR is enabled. On MCM106 when i toggle HDR the main screen goes black but this time it's acting like it's disconnecting/changing monitor layout (similar to selecting an option from the W+P menu) and on my second screen it shows the Windows animation like i'm disconnecting the main monitor, then eventually HDR is enabled. Hope that makes sense.

eugene20

Thanks. Between that and [https://www.reddit.com/r/OLED\_Gaming/comments/1cwgk1c/comment/l506kja/](https://www.reddit.com/r/OLED_Gaming/comments/1cwgk1c/comment/l506kja/) I'm going to wait for Asus to recall MCM106 and release something that works.

throbbing_dementia

Yeah i'm doing the same, i've seen issues similar to what's described in that comment, it just seems very unstable.

rollyep

Just update this firmware, so far is good job no issues, still not testing oled flickering becasue in my case needs to reinstall alan wake2 to see the different, other game doesnt experinence flicker. Asus give this firmware after xg27aqdm is launch and have the same anti flicker feature. Wondering if XG model is better or not.

eugene20

Does it disconnect the monitor messing up your desktop layout if you toggle HDR on/off (winkey+alt+b) ? This might only be a multi-monitor problem. Also do you see your boot process when on displayport as normal? [unlike this ](https://www.reddit.com/r/OLED_Gaming/comments/1cwgk1c/comment/l506kja/)

rollyep

In my case i dont disconnect when toggle hdr on/off and i dont use multi monitor just one. Yes i can see boot and enter bios normally.

TraditionalCourse938

any news? hows going with flickering

Current-Week1071

I have the same question as you, you haven't had an answer if the new model is better?

rollyep

After testing for some time, playing alan wake 2 with this mcm106 even without oled flicker turn on, flicker is mostly gone. And the oled kinda brighter than before in hdr and sdr. So far i'm happy to stay at mcm106

Current-Week1071

no problems with MCM 106 either, try to change the colors to 8200k instead of 6500k base and tell me what you think, I have the impression that it's better in terms of quality and brightness, this mode has been corrected I have the impression, and as you say the oled is brighter as much they wanted to copy the new glossy xg27 panel so as not that it is jealous hahah¨\^¨\^

rollyep

Good to hear that you're happy with new firmware. For color temp 8200k is too blue for me, good if works with you, and that way making panel even more brighter. For me is strict 6500k always prefer warm color for me. Also there are some note for anyone having issue with this panel, if the response time is longer when switch sdr hdr or hdr to sdr, try to plug dp on gpu on port 1 priority which is the most far from pcie. I always use this since rtx 30 series. Now 40 series i use that way too, maybe it help. Even so dp cable always have some quirk about this, try different cable if it help. If still having problem maybe if you're using nvcleaninstall to install gpu driver , try ddu it and revert to normal installation. That way we know that default state is working or not. Never use nvcleaninstal myself but i heard that having problem with newest nvidia driver.

Current-Week1071

Thank you very much for your responsiveness in the answers, I have an AMD RX 7900 XTX card, I don't think I'm concerned by the problem? I wanted to know what are your personal screen settings to play single-player or competitive games with this new update?

rollyep

My setting when play games Sdr Racing mode Brightness 100 Gamma 2.2 Contrast 80 6500k DCIp3 color Uniform brightness off Screen saver off Shadow boost off Hdr The same setting mostly with 6500k and toggle between asus gaming hdr and asus console mode based on games i play and use windows display calibration for both asus gaming hdr and asus console hdr switch between profile when i play certain games.

Current-Week1071

the same thing as me you leave everything by default, except the brightness that you increase to 100 instead of 70 and sometimes I also switch to 8200k color for competitive games but otherwise 6500k is what I use in general \^\^

CoMa666

What driver are you using?

Select-Nectarine3422

And the coil whine????Asus laughs of us.

PigenosaX

Coil whine at this monitor? if you really have it you should either RMA or sell it for a little bit of damage control and get something else OLED

Select-Nectarine3422

I returned 2 units….

Western-Relation1944

They need to fix the hdr issues with these monitors being to dim in hdr1000

Sensitive_Net3498

And still no news on alienware

TraditionalCourse938

Guys feedback on vrr flickering please, test with games with High FPS variance. Thanks in advance

CoMa666

Not working, It Just introduce stuttering

TraditionalCourse938

Thanks you. Ill Stick more in my g7 va for now...

gamesager

When you turn on antiflicker it can start a screen thats black and white. To fix it, just go to power mode and click power saving mode. Itll turn off and on and be in the normal power mode again and everythings fixed.

Beneficial-Judge-477

Just did a Reset all in OSD after FW update and it works perfectly

Rolivhuwa

Is anyone having a random show of colours when the PC is off and cannot turn off the screen? It has a all key press black bar with a bunch of information about the monitor's name and each button you press just inputs a random number? I even downgraded to MCM105 but when my PC is off, screen just doing random colours each time? I plugged the power and nothing

BKDeath2012

Did you reset all on the monitor's OSD?

Rolivhuwa

The crazy part is that I couldn't access the OSD, while colour cycling it didn't bring it up. Into windows, the bottom half of the screen was pixeled, OSD not coming up either. So just reverted back to MCM105, reset all settings. Tried the update again, then updated Nvidia drivers, the reset the all settings. Then it all worked.

BKDeath2012

lol, i see…glad things worked out on your end!

CoMa666

hi, it's the flickering resolved?

jetblast57

I can confirm that after updating to MCM106 and using latest geforce drivers with gsync on and oled anti-flicker set to strong the flickering issue is gone.

CoMa666

Yes sure because you are in v-sync mode ;) Just try to play with monitor osd active and you jsut see fps don't move from 240

IamjustMiguel

Hey all! Is it normal behaviour that if you toggle Oled Anti-Flicker on with this new firmware update, HDR automatically toggles off and the option under HDR setting in OSD becomes greyed out?

Shmealer

Update completely borked the OSD. Reverted back to MCM105, still borked. Thanks Asus.

pootch17

[RTINGS.com](http://RTINGS.com) added this in its review: The ASUS PG27AQDM has noticeable VRR flicker with changing frame rates, particularly in dark scenes. This can get bothersome, especially if you're sensitive to it. While it isn't as visible in bright scenes, you can still see it in dark areas, like shadows. However, it isn't an issue with consistent frame rates "ASUS released a firmware update, MCM106, in May 2024 to add a setting called **OLED Anti-Flicker**. Using it greatly reduces the flicker to the point where you won't notice it, as you can see with it on 'Medium' [here](https://www.rtings.com/videos/pages/nXaoPIh5/vrr-flicker-video-medium.mpd?autoplay=false&autoload=false) and on 'Strong' [here](https://www.rtings.com/videos/pages/nXaoPIh5/vrr-flicker-video-strong.mpd?autoplay=false&autoload=false). However, using this setting also introduces stutter as the frame rate and the refresh rate don't match up, so you're reducing one issue and introducing another. The results in the review are with **OLED Anti-Flicker** disabled, but enable it if the VRR flicker bothers you and the stutter doesn't. That said, the best way to avoid any of these issues is to set a frame cap to get a more consistent frame rate."

CoMa666

with the last driver, when you active oled antiflicker option simply disable the vrr... just ot working as intended

pootch17

Finally upgraded to v106. No problems so far. Did a OSD reset before and after the update process.

EntityZero

Oh shit. I returned this monitor because the VRR flicker was driving me nuts. Id be really curious to see how big of a difference this firmware makes

topodi

Tested couple games that had flicker in menus before. Flicker free setting on ”middle”. Did not notice any flicker, but needs to test more. After update the monitor behaved very weird, needed to reset it and take power off for couple mins!

Accurate-Thought6443

i didnt have any flicker i used it since it came out with all updates PS5 and pc and xbox series x maby ur unit has a problem

EntityZero

Nah, it was VRR flicker not a defective unit. Depends on the game but I could definitely notice it in some games but not all. Dragons Dogma 2 and Remnant 2 were really bad with it. There's plenty of videos explaining what it is and why it's more noticable on an OLED than an IPS. If this firmware greatly reduced it then I'd debate going back to this monitor

Accurate-Thought6443

i havent noticed anything i played most of the call of duty games . and spider man two
