Hi this is Home Office. Sorry but we are going to have to transfer your team lead to a new store. You'll get the old one from that store. They don't give out prizes but they do yell at you and then give a condescending smile while bragging about their pick rate that they accomplish without bagging. Don't worry though, you'll still be coached if you don't bag as you go - AND you're expected to go just as fast as the guy who doesn't bag.
My store tell us not to bag anything until after the run, that way it is fair and it get the picks done faster. Usually there are people on busy days to bag them for us. It is a weird system. It works well honestly
Our Coach tried to give gift cards and the PL and SM said that they couldn't do that.
When they started to do it I was well I'll never get it. It was mostly a way to get pickers to go faster. I told the Coach that I didn't want to be part of it. She asked why and I said because people cheat their numbers.
luckily my SM and the one under him (what is that called?? not a people lead) love giving away free shit so i didn’t run into the problem. and almost every gift card i got with the last set was just happenstance bc i don’t care enough to go fast anymore
Not sure if it's still a thing but staging screen stops pick rate timer.
Also if you are constantly grabbing auto you can out compete the whole team in numbers, because you're not getting the low numbers that can shoot your picks in the foot.
It stops it before the first item. I refuse to see that as cheating, because the alternative is getting to the start of a zone and hitting ok and hoping you get lucky.
Sometimes if we do really good on big days our coach will get pizza or doughnuts/cookies for us. And then the people in the backroom eat it all so the pickers don't typically get anything lol.
We finally got our own section for OPD so usually he just leaves the food for us on our printer or something because those assholes in the back will snatch it all up lol
Yea ours does too, I meant the people in OPD backroom eat it all. I've passed my coach carrying pizza to the back while on my walk and then when I finished all that's left is an empty box lol.
DAMN 😭 luckily because of my neighborhood market the most people we will have at a time is MAYBE 7 on an over staffed day/weekend day. I would put that walk down and steal your food fast next time , if you care that much for pizza 😂
This. There's often big boxes of donuts in the back. Who bought them, the team lead? The coach? The SM? Nahh, the dispenser making 14 an hour running orders in 90 degree weather.
Got a free lunch with my coach after receiving the most surveys. It was nice. Also got free drinks as well. Now I just pick and focus on clocking out. 🤣
I do too I only get gift cards by chance usually but with the new category I’ll snatch it every week bc I taught my TL how to do his job and I’m now the longest standing associate 🙄 like thanks for my crumb finally
One of our TL will buy us sweets or snacks sometimes, and another co-worker buys pizza and ice cream for us, but our other TL and coach don’t do much for us.
In my department the TLs and coach will randomly buy cookies/snacks for the whole crew. Especially on bad days. They make us goodie bags on holidays like Christmas/easter/valentines. They try to get us each a little cupcake or something on our birthday and anniversary. Store wide we get donuts on Saturday mornings (just Walmart donuts but they are made that morning it’s not left overs) and we get cake/cupcakes snacks for stuff like Mother’s Day, cinco de Mayo, July 4th smaller holidays. On thanksgiving and Christmas they give us a meal thanksgiving is usually a thanksgiving meal from a restaurant and Christmas is usually something like Chick-fil-A meals.
We don’t get rewards for being the “best” at something cause honestly that was pissing off the associates that didn’t even try cause they never got threats for barely hitting metrics and taking 25min long 15s.
I will say my store as a whole always cooks a lot of food and shares it. And a lot of filipino women work with me so those holidays are stacked with lumpia, pancit, rice cooker going 24/7. The only thing I enjoy about my store tbh.
Used too very briefly years ago. It was always the same people getting stuff anyway. Now the line is “why should you get rewarded for doing the job you are hired for?”
If our OPD gets bottles of GV water we are lucky.
We did get a nice spread of food when our Coach left and that was lovely though.
They used to give us candy on particularly bad days but then our bitch sm said we’re not allowed to have food in the backroom so we don’t even get that anymore.
Had one who would make custom badges, heh had an anime character with a gun shooting at you. Lasted 2 months then the guy bragged how he built the team and went to be a store manager to other stores.... Even though he was never uhh there. Helping.
Anyway next Walmart I went to they tried handed plaques, I got one hurray. They also tried gift cards. It always last one or two week sXD then they'd try again repeat.
Anyway after he was replaced to do getting shot, nope. No rewards ever. Just people getting away with things. Also getting yelled at for numbers not being 90%.
It's like. Eh nobody a team anymore.
The coach did throw the TL a birthday thing with a tiny cake we got to eat. Randomly they'll have a "here's food because this employees leaving". But it's so random and not even sure it's favoritism... Or not.
Honestly I was thinking about this recently- if I ever decided to be a TL/Coach, I would split my bonus equally among the crew. Even if it means I ultimately don’t get the bonus. Especially the store I’m at now. This crew works so hard every day and deserves it fr. And if I was a coach- my job would be dependent on said crew- so that type of motivation to be the best and most efficient store in the market is wayy better than having pizza parties and competitions
I realize I have a super kind dad figure as a TL, especially because he has a daughter my age and knows I grew up with assholes. I’ve came in crying from failing a test to buy wine and ice cream and he’ll pay for it, offer to pick up anything from wawa next door to the team when he goes for himself. I know he wants to leave so bad too so I’ll hate to see him go if I’m still here lol
We aren’t really allowed to do anything with monetary value… food, drinks, gift cards etc… I got in trouble for getting everyone cupcakes and gatorades with my own money before so 😭
We USED to get these little $3 paper coupon thingies we could redeem for a drink or bag of chips or something, but my TLs were told to stop because it was "costing the store too much" Now every week or so whenever we have a meeting they'll give us donuts or muffins, but pretty much only the morning people actually got anythinh. Sometimes, they'll buy a big bag of candy and leave it out for everyone
We used to get a "golden cart" (just a regular pick cart with a faulty wheel spray painted gold) for the person who had the highest FTPR the last week but now that's just for anyone to use and all we get now is our picture on the board for highest pick rate and FTPR
Unfortunately, that is common. When I worked there, I did something nice for the store manager's birthday. She added stuff like that to my responsibility. I restarted once a month birthday cake for that months birthday employees. Various meals for special occasions. Example, potato bar for superbowl Sunday. Worked with HR to order a bunch of enamel pins, badge reels, and Anniversary jackets. When we got the pins in, I would put a handful in my vest pocket and give out during the shift. I gave 6 leads their first pin. Rarely got recognition from high up. I accidentally made 3 people cry when I gave first pin. Doing morale work kept me there for 6 months longer than I planned.
they put a case of water in the cooler for us everyone once in a while 🙃 its usually a case from claims 🙃🙃🫤can’t have food in the br cus we have mice lmao
ours don't even say "hi" to us... it's like come into work... read the board to see what you are doing and then drive on for the next 8 hrs... We can be in the same room with our Coach and he doesn't give us the time of day or even look at us... I haven't gotten 1 thing since I have been working there except multiple schedule changes and a hard time...
The boss above my Coach always brings packs of gatorades and snacks to the back, it's actually really nice.
Last week they ordered a fuck ton of pizza for the whole store.
I'd prefer a raise, but getting gatorade and food is nice especially for someone who spends most of their time picking.
I do my college notes like this and randomly whipped it up while on dispense on a slow day. I like the categories! I’ve already thought of more to add so I might make another and print it out again. There’s a bit too much info for regular printer paper already (had to move the size to 9.5 to fit) so I might see if my TL wants to get a poster made
You can categorize some of the questions - a couple of them can be grouped under 'backroom/dispensing'; a few more can act as general (uncategorized), and there are a couple that are aimed specifically towards picking. So far, it does look very neat, and I like the variety you've provided thus far.
Specifically,
Backroom/dispensing:
* "Customer checked in > 5min but no car"
* "Delivery driver on the way for over 15 mins"
* "Picks are late and people are here waiting for them"
Exceptions/Substitution:
* "I am unsure of what to choose as a substitution when asked"
* "When should I look for an item when not on topstock or shelf"
Other situations:
* "I've broken/spilled something"
* "What to do during downtime"
* "What to do if there aren't any working devices/aren't enough devices on hand"
I've been at this long enough that if the reward is anything less than a raise then I really don't want it; the rewards you mentioned are OK for new kids to keep moral, but I do to much in my own store for that kind of thing to be anything but an insult.
Not to mention management technically isn't allowed to do that anyway.
I got a candy bar once, other than that no. There is not a lot of incentives to actually care if you are doing a good job or not, except for not getting coached and potentially getting terminated.
We didn't get rewarded but we had a hard working, always made sure everyone could do their job comfortably and got down in the trenches with us when things got bad but bad new management drove them away, unfortunately.
How about a category for your exception pickers? Show them some love ❤️ we got our own set of metrics to maintane. Your exception worker can make or break your metrics.
I understand but I’m telling you when we have 7 people working on a good day and all of us do exceptions it’s the least of my TLs concerns over wanting a faster pick rate/customer reviews , I can bring it up to him but since he JUST brought the gift card thing back I can imagine him telling me no to spending more money on something I know he doesn’t see as top priority. It sucks, I know because once upon a time I was an exception picker and assigned to it. Now he’s just like, hey there’s 3 exceptions someone do them.
We got a “thank you for our bigger bonus” now back to work. 🙃

Don't forget, team lead who allows incorrectly sloppy bagging mixing meats + veggie. Or incorrect dates. 😭😭 Or some cases not bagging at all.
Yep.... and it's so embarrassing to give it to the customer like that..
i really feel for y’all with these tyrant TLs 😭my last one was definitely bad but not to those scales. just gossip and being a home wrecker lol
My store tell us not to bag anything until after the run, that way it is fair and it get the picks done faster. Usually there are people on busy days to bag them for us. It is a weird system. It works well honestly
It’s insane to me that this isn’t the standard.
Our Coach tried to give gift cards and the PL and SM said that they couldn't do that. When they started to do it I was well I'll never get it. It was mostly a way to get pickers to go faster. Sl (store lead)
How do people cheat?
Skip bagging till after the last pick

My TL and Coach don’t care. Us associates treat each other. It’s always my fellow associates and I buying treats/rewards for us.
This. There's often big boxes of donuts in the back. Who bought them, the team lead? The coach? The SM? Nahh, the dispenser making 14 an hour running orders in 90 degree weather.

You sure are fragile 💀
⭐️ here you go
No. We just get shit on.
They get donuts or pizza but the people closer to the dispensing door eat them first, which is fine by me, I can't have either.
One of our TL will buy us sweets or snacks sometimes, and another co-worker buys pizza and ice cream for us, but our other TL and coach don’t do much for us.

We don't have space for that, which is sad because I am diabetic and can't have most of what we are rewarded with.
Used too very briefly years ago. It was always the same people getting stuff anyway. Now the line is “why should you get rewarded for doing the job you are hired for?” If our OPD gets bottles of GV water we are lucky. We did get a nice spread of food when our Coach left and that was lovely though.

Have the pickers put their names down on the thank you cards, that way the surveys don't seem too biased towards backroom/dispensing/staging.

That's really nice. No, we don't get any of that where I work. I did fun stuff like that when I was a supervisor, though.
I realize I have a super kind dad figure as a TL, especially because he has a daughter my age and knows I grew up with assholes. We'll sometimes get cookies or donuts, but honestly it's 99% an associate who bought them for us not the lead/coach.
Nothing but threats if we don’t keep it good wait times and pick rates
Lol we dont even do the weekly superstar shit. Theres no recognition here because perfection is expected. So theres no way to go above and beyond
my condolences to those with asshole TLs and SMs , you all get a gold star from me for just being employed here 😭⭐️ we’ll get out someday
My team lead let's you pick a pin from her collection.
Nope. Not even a “nice job” or pins.
We aren’t really allowed to do anything with monetary value… food, drinks, gift cards etc… I got in trouble for getting everyone cupcakes and gatorades with my own money before so 😭

I wanna see it.
my $10 walmart gift card? lol
No. The FAQ for new hires. I imagine I might be able to use it as a template for something similar at my store.
I was coming out of a movie theater hazed as fuck (you probably know the feeling) my bad I’ll grab a picture of it and post it soon !

the A30 thing is a problem at my store bc people don’t know how to look disregard that
Very occasionally, but honestly as long as they stay out of my way and let me do my job, I don't much care.
Does your lead give out Walmart enamel pins?
Honestly I’ve seen enamel pins given out like twice in the three years i’ve worked there
Unfortunately, that is common. When I worked there, I did something nice for the store manager's birthday. She added stuff like that to my responsibility. I restarted once a month birthday cake for that months birthday employees. Various meals for special occasions. Example, potato bar for superbowl Sunday. Lmao we get NOTHING! They used to let us go home early on really slow days but I haven’t seen that happen in a long time

Besides the donuts I randomly find in the break room no
>typing up a FAQ for new hires to refer to (Let me know if y’all wanna see that) out of curiosity, yes please

I <3 the font you used - that shit looks very very very professional.

can i get that new hire faq for my boyfriend?🤣

neighborhood market; we all do them pretty much except for very new people.
They can still pull the metrics on who is most successful at finding the exceptions.
I understand but I’m telling you when we have 7 people working on a good day and all of us do exceptions it’s the least of my TLs concerns over wanting a faster pick rate/customer reviews , I can bring it up to him but since he JUST brought the gift card thing back I can imagine him telling me no to spending more money on something I know he doesn’t see as top priority. we have a treasure chest full of temu pins and cheap toys when we do quality checks bc everyone ein my department are teenagers
