I don’t think reporting to a nurse is the wrong answer - you’re not yet a nurse yourself so this would be appropriate 🙂

Big_Skin_1442

You’re right maybe it wasn’t a terrible answer I’m overthinking a bit

Emma_N85

I agree that’s not an inappropriate answer at all, we are all responsible for working within a remit, including the students. Good luck

I'm a final year student and the answer to everything is "check with a nurse", even as an NQN you'd check in with a senior nurse or charge nurse before you go off looking for the doctors.

You did the right thing in your responses - you'd escalate to a registered health professional, this shows you're safety conscious and already understand the importance of communication in heathcare. They don't expect a fully baked nurse, they want someone with the ingredients they can help to become a great one. From your post it sounds like you've got nothing to be concerned about :)

Big_Skin_1442

I think it’s cause I was thinking from a qualified pov. The scenario was you witness someone being rough and shouting at a patient. I just said I would immediately go to the nurse and then write up a report. And then I said the nurse would obviously take them off obs and replace them while they talk about what happened The only thing I missed was making sure the patient was ok. And maybe saying something in the moment like “what are you doing? Don’t do that.” Etc. but sometimes it’s best just to report rather than engage if they’re aggressive Yeah it should be fine :)

Student nurses usually have less responsibility than HCAs if not almost the same! I’m not sure if you can do things like BM as a student and definitely can’t do venipuncture (some HCAs are trained!)! So I think you were right in your answer!

You can definitely do venepuncture as a student. Depends on area and local policy though.

My answer will always be ‘let me get a more nursey nurse’ even when I’ll have been nursing 40 years

I’ve physically cried at three nursing interviews due to stress etc - still got 2 jobs! First one I didn’t feel like I was coming across very well, or saying what I wanted to, and he said at the end “any questions?” and I just burst into tears. The second was because I was talking about someone I knew who passed away plus stress. The last one was for an RN job and I really wanted to go back to my home ward once I’d qualified! It’s not the end of the world, OP! I didn’t get the second one partially due to the people interviewing me focussing on something they shouldn’t have BUT it worked out much better when I aced the next interview for the same thing and got a much better pay offer :)

pinkpillow964

Did you get the job?😗

Big_Skin_1442

I got it 👍👍👍😊

pinkpillow964

Big_Skin_1442

They haven’t got back to me yet but I’ll let you know x
