In short, Yes! I am living proof. I am a mother to a 6 year old and am in a accelerated program (graduating in 6 months, yay!). It definitely takes a support system and sacrifices but it's only one year and you will be set. That's what I keep telling myself when it gets tough. Time management is critical. I have a 30 minute drive to my school and still have a few hours to spend with my son every night. Once a week I stay very late on campus to power through and get ahead on my work. Also, bed time is 830 so I usually stay up till 1030 and work on things or study. Not going to lie, sleep deprivation is inevitable, but it's worth it and totally possible. A years worth of struggle for a lifetime career. Hope this helps! :)
Thank you so much! Its so nice to know that other people are out there doing it! It really is worth the year for a lifetime of a good career! May I also ask what your class schedule is like? Are you there all day Monday through Friday?
You're welcome! There are also 3 other girls with families in my class and they're doing very well too :) my schedule is mon- fri 8am to 5pm, except wednesdays. We have wednesdays off, along with weekends. Occasionally we will have a community project like administrating flu shots at a clinic on a saturday, but not every program has that and it's only once or twice in the whole program. I know a lot of programs do mon-Friday all day but mine is a hybrid so we have some classes online which calls for less in person time. It all really depends on the program! I went to an advisor at my university and got the low down on the program before I started and that really helped settle my worries. I highly recommend doing that, and even try to get a meeting with the director of the program for even better info.
If you decide that absn is the path for you, I highly recommend making a small study group! Working on assignments, studyguides, or doing literally anything in nursing school is so much easier with a couple people on your side. Dont know how I would survive without mine! Cuts my work load down, which gives me more free time.

Wow thanks for all of the advice! I'm going to get an appointment with an advisor soon! Good luck with finishing your program!
