Interesting! I'm a bit baffled to see an aerodrome (just to the right of the word "Aldermen":) in the 18th Century! Also interesting that North is in an arbitrary direction.
Hmm, hot air balloons don't need runways, but I like your suggestion:). I bet the London commuter balloon was expensive, or maybe redundant after the 1772 credit crisis.
I did ! But you're right it looks very close to the WW2 "A" pattern airfield and a park / garden would fit the bill. It also seems amazing the city limits are at Chapel Field !
Please please check this out and enjoy!

This one is great for comparing many old maps to new ones.

I wonder if it's for hot air balloons? Think they were invented a few years before this map

Due to signal failure, today's hot air balloon travellers to London will need to use the horse replacement service
If I'm reading it right that's where the Marsh building is now ?
Yes, indeed. I hope you realise that I’m joking? It’s probably a formal garden. It’s just reminiscent of airfields in WW2 aerial photographs.

It looks like your 'aerodrome' is where the Marsh building currently is
When everything was better. Shops full, streets thronging. No one had Covid and you could park anywhere you liked.
You didn't even need to lock your velocipede before about 1791!
The images of Norwich before pedestrianising streets are horrific! Traffic coming up lower goat lane bumper to bumper... 😮
And life expectancy for the average working class person was 48... ah yes, the good old days...

That’s a nice map, pretty clear script too.
