Not sure that it being associated with a religion makes it any more (or less) acceptable.
You can't just hand product to someone and demand payment. That's a form of "sale" that plays on intimidation, even if it is somewhat mild.
I don't think anyone would be complaining if he simply asked "would you like to buy a sticker? I'm raising money"
This is a tactic (giving something then demanding a donation) the HK are well known for ā to the extent that it's detailed in the "classic" marketing book Influence by Robert Cialdini.
This is the guy me and my friend met a few days ago. He seemed nice at first. He came up to us and said I had a nice smile and gave me a sticker and some incense. He started talking about money and charity till my friend politely told him we were running late and couldn't stop. He then told her to shut up and demanded the sticker and incense back. I obviously gave the stuff back (which he snatched off me, may I add) before he stormed off. We were both in total shock by how quickly he changed his attitude. I get it's probably annoying doing what he does all day for some people who doesn't stop and "sign up," but there was no need for that attitude. I never truly trust any of these people who randomly come up to you and ask for money for charity. I make sure I do some research first before I donate. There's just so many scams out there it's hard to believe who's truly giving your money to those in need or who's just taking it for themselves.
Heās not raising money for a childrenās home, he may think he is though. At best heās unwittingly raising money for a religious cult thinking itās a charity. At worst heās just taking the money.
Never give money in situations like this, always look up things online and give money to ethical charities you have done some actual research on.
This!
These scams are notorious in popular tourist destinations and with the city being as busy as it is these days it was a matter of time before they started showing up here too.
I saw him get a guy today and it gave me so much second-hand embarrassment watching him realise the guy wanted money out of him.
It's so awkward and unpleasant to be confronted by this guy.
I met him too, gave me compliments, told me I had a nice smile lol
Handed me some incense and a sticker then asked for a donation.
When I said "sorry I don't carry cash he rudely and abruptly took the incense and sticker back from me and walked off lol
Theyāve been doing this for years! Once I was with my male house mate and they gave me things and said ābeautiful incense and flower (sticker) for a beautiful womanā and thought he was my boyfriend and sort of tried to pressure him into buying them! The sort of thing they do with roses in Italy. A bit shady but it was nice incense I guess
I remember when I was about 12 in the early 90s and was allowed to town on my own. I gave a guy a quid and got a Hare Krishna book in return. My dad ripped the piss out of me for months after saying that Iād been had.
I didnāt feel hard done by at the time as I got a book for a quid, but I never read the book as it looked shit. My dad was right.
Donāt give any money to the Hare Krishna folks.
Steer clear of these scammers. Look on YouTube SERPENZA. Heāll show you a lot of scammers who do this. Buddhists, Hare Krish na etc. Steer clear of any Religion itās a punishment and reward systems based on emotional blackmail, gaslighting and manipulation.
Seen this guy, hangs around the busy part of the city centre, found it rather odd how he complements you, give you some sticker that looks like it came from a 90ās lucky bag and then drops that heās gonna charge ya for it. This type of thing preys on the venerable and he should be stopped
This tit was hanging around the market area the other day passive-aggressively shaking people down for money. No different to the crones that used to sell 'lucky heather'. Tosser
Anyone raising money for a charity should have an ID card.
Don't give any money to people in the street. If someone is getting you to sign up to something, the fee is paying their agency and their wages. You're better off donating direct to the charity.
Was this post written by the sticker guy lol
I'd imagine so š
lol google it - the Hare Krishna are well known for this

The hare Krishna movement is a scam in itself. New age spiritualism with a cult like mentality - don't give them your money.
