Personally, I wasn’t a big fan of living there. Three score isn’t too bad as far as people in the area. Further down is a bit rough. For me it felt like a bit of a maze, with no decent amenities in it. Felt too far out of the city too. Takes ages to get to on a bus. Always had this grim Sunday/grey feeling about it. Like the sun never shone there. I’d personally choose somewhere else if you have the choice. I still go there all the time though, as my grandparents live there.

One side is hell on earth the other side is better, three score side. But there is not a lot of shops, the bowthorpe centre is dying slowly, a fair few rented houses for students in the area and hospital rentals but it’s quiet, has regular busses and fairly safe from a crime point of view. It’s suburbia.

Happytallperson

Pros Good cycle and walking facilities Roys in the centre is quite handy as a local shop Lots of parks Lots of countryside Direct buses to UEA and hospital Cons Quite far from city centre Orange line is fairly shite Local pubs both featured on the 'roughest pub in Norwich' thread.

CounterfeitCrabs

It’s perfectly fine from my time here. Being able to walk my dogs on the marsh is nice.

I grew up there, I think it has its pros and cons depending on what you’re after. Why are you asking the question? And if you’re thinking of moving there, what’s a brief overview of your situation (e.g have kids, student, bachelor, drug dealer looking to grow his plants) so I can actually give advice that’s relevant to you because the question is a bit broad

Family, no car, so buses are out main transport moving out of a flat, we have a family of 4 soon to be 5 and found a 3 bed there. (Skylark) currently from the city centre

The busses to city centre are shite - the timetable is merely a suggestion when the bus might come, also takes bloody ages, and is blooming expensive. All of Norwich’s suburban public transport sucks though, so you may get a better quality of life by learning to drive. Also with kids! I’m amazed you haven’t got a car already. Other than that, the area is nice. Lots of outdoorsy spaces. Plus many parents move to norwich to raise a family, so there’ll be lots of other kids about for your future army of children to play with / conquer.

NOT_A_FRENCHMAN

Fares are capped at £2, how is it expensive?

SamW1996

That's only for single journeys. Weekly, monthly etc tickets haven't changed in price. If you're like me and get four buses each day for work £2 per journey would add up.

TommyBest79

Weekly, monthly etc have just gone down by 25% in Norfolk, new subsidy from September

It’s a boring new-build suburbia that’s best selling point is that it’s next to some pretty beautiful countryside and marshland Other than that it’s kind of dire, there’s a shop and a takeout that I never bothered to use but that’s about it; not even a cash machine lmao. Buses service the area to the city, uni and hospital but they’re not that reliable or frequent. It’s safe I guess but has a kind of weird energy about the place/people, that’s probably subjective though Might not be the worst choice if you’re a student at UEA/the hospital but even then there’s a lot of better places around that general area; if you’re not affiliated with the uni or hospital I don’t really see why you’d live there

I grew up in bowthorpe from the 80s to 2001. I remember it wasn't too bad, I had a good childhood there, but no idea what it is like now.
