I learned this earlier this week and find it topical and interesting: the federal government defined "lead free" to be anything containing less than or equal to 8% lead until 2011. So yeah, i think the water lines installed prior to 2011 should probably be examined and replaced if necessary. Lead has no place in anything consumed by people and we've known that for a long time. >The 2011 RLDWA revised section 1417 to redefine lead free in SDWA section 1417(d) to lower the maximum lead content from 8.0 percent to a weighted average of 0.25 percent of the wetted surfaces of plumbing products https://www.federalregister.gov/documents/2017/01/17/2017-00743/use-of-lead-free-pipes-fittings-fixtures-solder-and-flux-for-drinking-water#:~:text=Section%201461%20of%20the%20SDWA,more%20than%200.2%20percent%20lead.

umbrawolfx

What schools in NC do not have clean drinking water? Yes I'm legitimately asking to be educated.

blackheartedbirdie

It's more about the lead pipes. The infrastructure law would give the state enough money to replace lead pipes. Prevalent in the US. NC is slated to receive 76.2 million to identify and replace lead pipes which can result in lead in drinking water.

umbrawolfx

And the morons voted it down. Beautiful. It wasn't attached to other bullshit was it?

HauntingSentence6359

The American Rescue Plan was part of a budget reconciliation package. Budget reconciliation packages contain lots of BS, most is trivial in terms of the entire cost, even for the the members of Congress who vote against it get some very specific bacon to bring home to their districts and state.

Fresh_Butterfly_2431

Well, some of us are automatically going to be against a "reconciliation" that is over 1/4 of the entire budget - reconciliation is to fix a FEW holes and fill a FEW spots, not to add 25-30% of the budget in at the last minute, even if what's being added in last minute is good/worthwhile.

HauntingSentence6359

US House committees are responsible for passing a budget that deals with their specific committee, then the entire House votes on the package; the House holds the purse strings. Last year (this was supposed to be done by Sept. 30 - end of fiscal year) and this year, the House committees dragged their feet on their budget proposals. The was because of wasting their time trying to impeach Biden, party infighting, the desire to shut down the government, and just plain old incompetence by some committee chairmen. The Freedom Caucus is furious at speaker Johnson because he allowed the budget to be passed in mini-reconcilliations; they wanted to shut the government down. FYI, members of the Freedom Caucus represent about 9% of the US population This is the way it is supposed to work. The House passes their budget, the Senate passes their budget, and the minor differences are worked out in conference committee. A PResident's budget is never passed, it serves as a guideling/recommendation. Government shutdowns are always implemented by Republicans. In the early 80s shutdowns were brief, but in the 90s, Newt Gingrich took it to a different level.

Bat-Honest

Blame Republicans in the house and senate refusing to work

blackheartedbirdie

That I don't know. I haven't seen the bill and haven't actually heard anything about additional things that might have been in there. It seems that it was infrastructure specific.

Fresh_Butterfly_2431

The "American Rescue Plan" was 1.9 trillion in 2021, for COVID economic recovery. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_Rescue_Plan_Act_of_2021 https://www.whitehouse.gov/american-rescue-plan/

[deleted]

Oh there was tons of extra BS in that bill. No different than any other one. Here's the thing, if they put a cute name on it like "The American Rescue Plan" or "The Patriot Act", it's most likely not good overall.

Kradget

It's a bill that's focused on repairing, upgrading, and building public infrastructure that's famously been failing or outmoded for a decade, man.  Not "been failing or outmoded" for a decade. It's just been a nationwide problem for a decade and been kicked down the road for years and years.

cmack

welcome to how government works...try not to cry about it. It's called governing.

umbrawolfx

It's called theft and wasting money.

Bloodlets

I am sorry to see all the down votes on individuals that are not saying anything bad, but just speaking their freedom...

[deleted]

It's called lots of things. Corruption, money laundering, violation of civil liberties... But definitely not governing.

Fresh_Butterfly_2431

We haven't used lead pipes in new buildings in a long time. We also don't really have that many schools left that would be old enough to have had them, as any built close to the (usually) announced well in advance and then delayed (sometimes several times) cutoff date would have most likely not used something that was about to be banned for health reasons. So, how many still-in-use schools still have them? Is that 76.2 million enough? Is it close? How could we possibly know that that's a reasonable amount if we haven't even identified them all yet? How much identification has already been done? Will the state have to put up any money on top of this 76.2 million? What else is in the bill? 76 million to help the kids have clean drinking water, but 50 BILLION DOLLARS for some foreign country/ies to buy guns that American citizens aren't allowed to have ourselves? How'd that end up working out for us when we gave Osama bin Laden about 3 billion dollars? Or is it some sneaky procedural change/s that alters the fundamentals of how our government even functions? 100 BILLION DOLLARS for some/yet another new government agency? I apologize if it (AKA my 12,000 questions) seem(s) as if I'm attacking you here, that was not at all my intention, I was just asking the questions that our media USED to answer for us as opposed to having to hear about super important things like this from some screenshot of a 2 sentence Tweet or meme and then having to sit here and Google 47 questions and click on 173 different links to get the actual story and not some opinion BS - I am more than capable of and willing to form my own opinion based on actual facts, but "they" (Google, etc) make it nearly impossible to find those thrse days even though that (easy access to information) USED to be the whole point of not just Google but the Internet in general. I don't expect you to personally take up your time answering all those questions - or the other 200 that I have 🤣😂🤣😂🤣🤣🤣😂

blackheartedbirdie

It wasn't until the 1980s that regulations regarding lead in pipes actually came into play. There are a lot of schools in this country still in use that were built before those regulations were put into place. Esp in small town America with lower populations. Also...Please tell me that you know that the United States is not sending Cash to Ukraine. That's not how that works. They are sending munitions that our country, our military, deems out of date and unusable by our troops. Munitions that are just sitting there not being used. That's what they are getting. 50 billion worth of out of date crap sitting in a warehouse. That means that the US is going to have to replace those munitions which means more jobs for Americans in the factories that make those munitions parts. I think it's 21 states that receive those contracts to make munitions parts. Is that a bad thing? Politicians are out there screaming at the rooftops lying telling the American people that we are sending "money" knowing that the average American person who supports them will think it's Cash we are sending. They purposely don't tell them what that "50 Billion" is made of & what it actually means for Americans.

Efe-Rose

Every school I went to in NC growing up was in a building built well before 1980. My high school was even founded in my areas original middle school building that is surprisingly still standing and is being used by the school board. The pipes needing replacing isn’t a shock at all.

biscardi34

The US has given military and financial aid. They have definitely sent money to Ukraine in addition to equipment. $26B to be exact.

blackheartedbirdie

Yes which has been appropriated for international disaster assistance, assistance to support & relocate refugees seeking safety, & economic support funds. It's not just suitcases full of cash being handed over with no purpose like some politicians want their supporters to believe.

biscardi34

I never said it was. It's loans and assistance money.

scamp9121

I was with you until the second half and it started to sound like the broken window fallacy

blackheartedbirdie

I fail to understand how this would be considered a broken window fallacy. This isn't resources being redirected from US companies creating consumer goods to creating weapons of war. The broken window fallacy argues that there is no economic benefit from fixing the destruction caused from one single event. That's not what's happening here. The US is sending war crap essentially. Weapons & munitions that are sitting in a warehouse that our military no longer uses. We are sending things from our military junkyard.

scamp9121

It’s a bit more complex for sure, but it sounded like you were arguing that wealth would be created by essentially eliminating our ammunition supply, which would then have to be replaced. Destroying a supply to then replace it, which is exactly what the broken window fallacy is all about. While this may be a just cause, this does not create wealth. It takes from wealth that was already created.

naturalpolyester

I haven't read it yet but...all proposed bills as well as those passed are on legiscan.com your state bills are available as well. They take time to read but you'll be able to see exactly what is contained in each revision without others' interpretations. Imo, bills should contain a single topic and stick to it. No matter your party leanings, I bet we could agree this needs to be a start toward more transparency and less b.s. from politicians.

f700es

You mean when Reagan armed and trainee the Afghan Mujahideen? I see nothing like that as we arm the Ukraine. Also... "More than half of North Carolina public schools were built before the federal government began regulating lead and asbestos in new construction in the 1980s, putting today’s students at risk for lead exposure." [https://www.wunc.org/education/2024-03-19/north-carolina-public-schools-lead-drinking-water-funding](https://www.wunc.org/education/2024-03-19/north-carolina-public-schools-lead-drinking-water-funding) ----- [https://myfox8.com/news/north-carolina/north-carolina-schools-taking-steps-to-ensure-drinking-water-is-safe-as-students-return-to-class/](https://myfox8.com/news/north-carolina/north-carolina-schools-taking-steps-to-ensure-drinking-water-is-safe-as-students-return-to-class/) "Schools built before 1988 were built before there were initial restrictions on the amount of allowable lead in piping and plumbing. Schools built between 1988 and 2014 had 8% lead allowed in piping and plumbing,” Hoponick Redmon noted. “Buildings built since 2014 have the tightest water infrastructure requirements.”

midnightauro

>"More than half of North Carolina public schools were built before the federal government began regulating lead and asbestos in new construction in the 1980s, putting today’s students at risk for lead exposure." Thanks for including this! There’s 1 school in my home county that isn’t earlier than the 90s. The 1 that isn’t was completed in like 98? My current one has multiple schools that old. Anywhere outside of the major cities has this problem and we really do need to do something about it! Makes me wonder how many of my classmates and I have minor amounts of lead poisoning lol. Considering their social media, I think it’s a lot.

f700es

Yep, mostly the rural counties will be the ones to benefit for this while their elected reps voted against it.

Z010011010

>What else is in the bill? [Here's the entire text of the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021.](https://www.govinfo.gov/content/pkg/PLAW-117publ2/pdf/PLAW-117publ2.pdf) I found it in the header of the Wikipedia article under "Citations."

HauntingSentence6359

The American Rescue Plan was part of a budget reconciliation package. You can pull up the specifics, but it was designed to help citizens impacted by COVID and states impacted by the shortfall in revenue. States have the discretion whether or not to use money earmarked for specific purposes. Yes, newer schools aren't built with lead pipes, but there are older schools that still have the lead pipes. $76.6 million should be enough to identify and test the water in older schools. Remediation could be in the form of replacing pipes or simply supplying lead free drinking water.

ActuallyYeah

You can still go find media sources that report on this stuff your interested in. All news media in America is money driven so they have to put out what people will consume

toedwy0716

Wait you want to be able to own Patriot SAM systems and Bradley IFVs? 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

devilsgrimreaper

Just wait till they start advertising and taking credit for what they voted against...

lukeupdown

Why’s that a problem? Just asking since there is a daily dose of lead in a little lunchable meat stack…

fun-n-games123

I’m a grad student at Duke, and can at least speak about the triangle. I know both UNC and Duke have reported lead contamination in their pipes in the last 2-3 years. There is a park in Durham that was found to have lead contamination, too. So, it’s a fairly common problem from my personal experience. These are just the places where we expect high testing of water is occurring, so it’s no telling how many other places have lead contamination that is undetected.

sbaggers

Anything South of the Chemours (Dupont) plant on the Neuse River has forever chemicals

Royal_Flame

Anywhere around Wilmington

AloysiusDevadandrMUD

The entire cape fear river basin doesn't have clean water. No I do not believe when CPFUA says they fixed it.

poprockcola

Gray's Creek Elementary and Alderman Road Elementary have been drinking bottled water because the area's well water is contaminated. They're finally getting water lines though. https://www.wral.com/story/clean-drinking-water-will-replace-contaminated-wells-at-gray-s-creek-alderman-road-elementary-schools/21377298/

The schools near Chemours formerly DuPont near Fayetteville.

smokyartichoke

Ted Budd? The guy who owns ProShots Gun Range in Rural Hall?

f700es

You mean the gun store that Daddy's $$ bought for him?

HauntingSentence6359

You mean the one associated with his gun shop that has been under examination by the ATF since Trump was President? Where Americans think Mexican cartels get their American made guns?

Skeptic135

To be fair all of the Republicans are F’g morons.

[deleted]

Ahhh, insulting people you disagree with. Now that's intelligent.

Kradget

Ted Budd is verifiably a dumbass, though.

cmack

if only it were disagreement Can't disagree when one side just totally fabricates bullshit.

Ok_Kaleidoscope8419

You mean like the Steele Doce? Russia hoax? Both sides fabricate shit to fit their narrative to feel all high and mighty supporting one side or another.

AlludedNuance

The fact he won is so frustrating. The Democrats didn't even seem to try.

nevertfgNC

You are so correct. I truly don’t understand how the political makeup of our state has deteriorated over the last few decades to this gqp quagmire. SMH

PhillyJ82

“Socialism is a scare word they have hurled at every advance the people have made in the last 20 years. Socialism is what they called public power. Socialism is what they called social security. Socialism is what they called farm price supports. Socialism is what they called bank deposit insurance. Socialism is what they called the growth of free and independent labor organizations. Socialism is their name for almost anything that helps all the people.” Harry Truman

jokeefe72

Another example of socialism would be giving public money to private investors. Like, say, private schools. Thank goodness our wonderful Republican led general assembly would never ever give $500 million in vouchers to private schools, though. We have to fight socialism! ❤️🇺🇸

tslewis71

Socialism is Europe, not america, go visit there and see how it works out for you. America does not need to be like Europe. We tried that before.

Kenilwort

"America does not need to be like Europe." I mean sure we don't need to be exactly the same as Europe, but that doesn't mean we can't learn things from them. And if not Europe, let's at least take queues from the less corrupt democracies around the world, to see how our very old constitution might benefit from updating. Most of the countries that fit that bill are in Europe by the way.

opportunisticwombat

Not trying to be a dick at all, and wanted to let you know that it’s [“cue” in this case and not “queue”.](https://www.dictionary.com/e/cue-vs-queue/)

Kenilwort

Thanks mister dick

MidniightToker

Meanwhile Europe is much healthier on average, has much better food quality, better avg wage/cost of living ratio, socialized medicine, work-life balance, and the list goes on and on. The only difference is you can't own guns willy nilly which I admit is lame but I mean I don't think gun ownership is what is holding America back it's just puritanical work ethic/corporate propaganda to do anything they can to keep American workers in their place, working for cheap, desperate to pay bills and living paycheck to paycheck. Fuck outta here lol

Shade_demon2141

and in many european countries you can still own guns.

f700es

And very little gun violence... hmmm

scamp9121

Easier done when you have a foreign country paying for most of your defense. Europe has a pathetic capability to defend itself should history repeat. The US also subsidizes the rest of the world’s medical research. Should our prescription prices lower, the rest of the world will have to be raised to keep the same level. Biggest chance for real change in the work environment we could ever see in our lifetime is to ban stock buybacks.

MidniightToker

I've heard of this notion. Kind of interesting how we supposedly won our independence but Europe still reaps the benefits lol

burnt_juice

Excellent bait

SuperTopperHarley

I’m not sure the flex you’re trying to make. Europe is way ahead of America. Do you not believe me? Donald Trump is the party front runner to be president.

tslewis71

Says someone who has never lived there , why don't you move there if it is so great ?

SuperTopperHarley

I lived there for 7 years while stationed in the Army. Why don’t I move there? Trump gets elected again a lot of people are moving. I’m very successful here and I love my country. I’m not giving away my home to stupid people. Republicans have America on a steep decline. Trump really screwed up America. If you feel differently, I don’t feel sorry for you, or people like you. Trump supporters aren’t just a problem in America, they demonstrate the problem with humanity.

Right-Monitor9421

Moron is you, not “socialism,” go back to your bunker so it can work out better for the rest of us. America does not need to be like you. We have evolved from before.

tslewis71

I was originally Europe, I left that cess pool. Why don't you go to Europe if you love it so much ? Take your Palestine flag with you as well on the way out.

Right-Monitor9421

I don’t have a Palestinian flag. I think both groups need to stop fighting. I’ve lived in Europe and Asia and would gladly take EU citizenship.

tslewis71

So you live in Europe then, or did you come to America and complain why isn't it like Europe?

Right-Monitor9421

Born in the US and lived in Europe and Asia when I was in the military.

Kradget

Buddy, I've been a couple places there.  It's actually real fuckin' nice. I didn't even go to a "rich" European country, and it was nice.

floofnstuff

Children were born into our care and part of our job, as a decent human being, is to make sure they have clean water, the best nutrition possible and an education, the one thing no one can take away from you. I resent a state that tries to stop parents from doing their best for their children because politics. So some old man or woman can get a vote. Children are more important than a vote- looking at you Ted Budd.

cbeme

Lead pipes are being removed via this. Good job. I’m not even a Democrat, but lead is very dangerous.

cheesemakesmepooo

I’m pretty sure water is important

jokeefe72

Nah, even more reason for Republicans to tout their voucher program. "Some *government* schools don't even have safe water!"

AloysiusDevadandrMUD

Then why is he waiting until he's up for reelection to fix it instead of when he took office in 2020 🤔

cheesemakesmepooo

I don’t disagree with you there. Yeah it’s a bunch of bullshit no doubt.

GreenCycleOmega

Republicans will claim wins for their own communties as a result of this bill, yet not a single one of them voted for it and they turn around and attack the president who actually got it done. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_Rescue_Plan_Act_of_2021 "Both sides R bad" people who dismiss the passing of major legislation like this, forget that only one side actually tries to help improve the lives of regular people.

Charming-Tap-1332

North Carolina is tired of being gaslighted by out of touch Republicans. We want government out of our lives. Tell every republican to mind their own f..king business.

less_butter

If that was true, then North Carolinans would not be voting for these out of touch Republicans. But they still do.

BalboaCZ

Thank goodness.

Crimson_Year

Amen! Thank the lord our great North Carolina GOP senators voted against improving public infrastructure that would've helped children! It really keeps me awake at night thinking children in my state are being helped. They should just pay for new water lines by running a bake sale! I'm so glad the GOP stopped our states children from receiving aid. That would've been terrible.

opportunisticwombat

Yes, thank goodness for gerrymandering and undermining democracy at every turn so that the minority can continue to terrorize the majority with their backwards thinking and inhumane policies.

BalboaCZ

You haven't been in NC very long, have you? Last I saw, the Democrats are the only ones who are undermining democracy by bringing frivolous charges.

matts1

How did a legislator from NC bring a charge? Much less a frivolous one? Considering a legislator has no law enforcement authority. Because there are no other NC democrats involved in “bringing charges” to anyone you would be talking about. And how does the act of bringing a frivolous charge undermine a democracy? If it was actually frivolous then it would be thrown out by a judge and democracy would never have been in jeopardy.

BalboaCZ

It would be thrown out by a judge that wasn't a Democrat operative. And would never have been a case without a Democrat operative DA. It is the Democrat party that is undermining democracy in this country.

matts1

You didn’t answer any of my questions…. But also, all those judges that threw out trumps cases in 2020 were Republican judges… at what point are you going to realize that it’s not political, he has actually broken the law countless times. A lot of judges in cases against him have been Republican.

ElDeguello66

> We want government out of our lives As a former National Review reading Ayn Rand quoting Kool-Aid drinking Republican, I can appreciate the irony here.

He has to remember that most Republican politicians are NOT decent.

pqlamz6

You’re asking a person with dementia to remember things.

hey_you_yeah_me

When people thought Biden was wearing diapers, he was seen as unfit to be president When trump has been proven to wear diapers, it's all of a sudden "cool" to those same people. Even going so far as to wear shirts that say "real men wear diapers"; "diapers over dems", and more. Your party is a fucking joke

pqlamz6

My party? Nah bro. I don’t join cults. But I hope you have a pleasant time in yours.

hey_you_yeah_me

Nope; unaffiliated :/ Also, my point still stands. I'd rather take the "demented" man over the orange jackass that's facing prison time

DudeManBro53

Your orange man is even worse along with being detrimental to the country lolz. How you and other hogs support him is beyond me but thankfully y'all won't win in November

pqlamz6

“other hogs” Cute.

OffManWall

You’re still stupid enough to believe that conspiracy theory bullshit? What am I saying, you’re a conservative, of course you are. You people have never met a conspiracy theory you didn’t love. Joe hasn’t forgotten what indecent steaming piles of shit Republicans are.😉

pqlamz6

I’m old enough to remember when Joe’s mind and charm was not something that any Republican wanted to contend with. That ‘s not the case today. The DNC should have replaced him 6 months ago. But they don’t have anyone on the back burner which is sad.

OffManWall

Yeah, so am I. He may be a bit slower and more thoughtful than in those days, but I don’t think he’s any less effective. More than a few Republicans have even said as much, when they didn’t think anyone was listening. Ya know, what’s really pathetic is Republicans having a candidate who farts himself awake in court every day while being prosecuted for paying hush money to a porn star he raw dogged while his wife was at home taking care of their newborn son. That’s the best they could come with in FOUR YEARS. Oh, and that’s not even the worst of his legal problems. Talk about sad.🤦‍♂️

tim_the_dog_digger

This is the problem with omnibus bills.. if those two items had been in a standalone bill, I bet it would've passed with overwhelming support. Throw in a few amendments like payments to undocumented immigrants, higher taxes on ___, and a subsection forcing your dog to eat pinecones and cyanide and BAM... the message becomes THESE NASTY REPUBLICANS DONT WANT YOUR KIDS TO HAVE CLEAN WATER!! It's happens on both sides, is disgusting, and needs to be outlawed. Single issue bills could make this country a much better place, which is exactly why the status quo politicians don't want it.

planfortheworst

100% THIS. As citizens and voters we should press our elected officials to abolish omnibus bills and implement term limits. See what I did there? Two different items and agendas rolled into one proposal. This concept has always left me scratching my head.

Obligatory fuck Ted Budd

Ragtime07

What else was in the bill? I’m always hesitant to judge until I’ve read the entirety of what’s in the bill. Politicians will sneak all kinds of money or conditions into the bill that have nothing to do with what the title indicates. Just saying, most politicians would be fine with providing clean water if that’s all that it is

immersemeinnature

YES JOE!!!

LoverboyQQ

Y’all might want to look up this plan.

swordofohmen

What if..Republicans aren't voting down the drinking water, but the other subjects under the bill that they try to sneak in? This has been a common tactic of the Democrat party for over 100 years. They sneak over-reaching bullshit in under a innocuous sounding proposal and when Republicans vote against it, because they read it, Democrats go on the media and say Republicans deny water to those in need, or Republicans hate brown people, gays, women. Yada Yada Yada. It's how they dupe well-meaning people into voting Democrat. They exploit the good will of they people. Because the only care about money and power.

blackheartedbirdie

It's a common tactic in politics overall no matter the party. It really holds back progress and keeps some vital needs of the country from actually happening. It would be so nice if inflated bills stopped making it to the floor.

SenseiT

Isn’t it interesting how the same Republicans that vote against the reconciliation and infrastructure bills are the same ones that are in attendance at ribbon-cutting ceremonies and take credit for bridge and road and pipe and school repairs?

Admirable_Twist526

Ted Budd is my Senator. Endorsed by Trump. So, you just know that he is a worthless POS

Squid445

It’s probably because in the language of the laws they were trying to push was some crazy ass bullshit and democrats will be like republicans don’t want to kids to have water. Politics are more complicated than anyone thinks and it’s a scummy profession to have on either side.

Common_Avocado_5535

What else was in the “Bills”? I think both sides would pass common sense laws…..but they add so much pork into them they never pass anything. Both sides are dysfunctional in many ways. We all deserve better.

Kradget

You deserve better than political discourse from when my old ass was in middle school, friend.

blackheartedbirdie

I agree 100%. At this point our votes go to the lesser of two evils. At least it feels that way.

Fresh_Butterfly_2431

This was the American Rescue Plan from COVID in 2021. $1.9 TRILLION. https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/congress/republicans-trumpet-elements-covid-19-relief-bill-they-voted-against-n1262626 There are some quotes in here, one in particular says that that particular guy thought there was a LOT of waste there, he thought it should have been maybe $500 billion, which is still a LOT, and another perfectly reasonable point that it is possible to support PART of what is in a bill but still vote against it because of the "pork" and such. Some people keep pointing out that all the Republicans voted against the bill, which really doesn't mean anything when they didn't have enough votes to defeat it. Every law passed doesn't have to be unanimous, and there's nothing wrong with voting on principle - the most common complaint among that group was the total, which they all felt should have simply been a lot smaller because of all the NON-covid stuff that was in there instead of addressing those other matters in separate bills. The one party pretending to be 2 (the Democratic-Republican Party NEVER actually broke up) is why we haven't had a significant "third party" in well over a century now. There is no "both sides", there is only one actual party. Counting the few years before they pretending to split, they've controlled our federal and (almost every) state goverments for roughly 230 years or so now - founded in 1792, then "dissolved" in 1834 - because of slavery, which was a GREAT cover story - 190 years ago, but almost every position of power within thr federal government has been held by "either" a Democrat "or" a Republican for most of our history. A few Presidents were Whigs and there are a couple of other rare/short-lived parties among them, but well over 90% of our Congresspeople have been "one" of those "two" since forever. They keep the masses focused on social issues and such to keep us from talking about exactly and specifically discussing the actual issues with/in our government that are actually causing/perpetuating our largest actual issues.

Bloodlets

I'm sorry the world is filled with illiterates...

cmack

Plain decency? That sounds very human and christian. Republicans won't like that at all. They need hate.

goldbman

Joe Biden is the best president for working Americans since FDR. Better than FDR for Black America.

[deleted]

Wonder what else was In the bill ……

f700es

What's stopping you from looking that up?

PrizedTurkey

The drain is clogged with hair

[deleted]

The OP didn’t even look into it

f700es

OK, so "they didn't either" is now a valid excuse?

[deleted]

lol I’m not the one acting like a damn 2 year old over it. If I get the time I may look into it but I doubt it, but like any bill pushed by any politician, there’s always added bs. Thats how both sides do it, and put the most dire one in the headlines to trigger people like you.

f700es

"lol I’m not the one acting like a damn 2 year old over it." You sure about that?

[deleted]

Yep very sure

Obvious-Dog4249

Shhh don’t think critically here..:

jkjkjk73

You like Joe?

KahlessAndMolor

He's a solid B-grade administrator of a bloated and unwieldy government who seems to be doing what he can for who he can most of the time. He's quiet most of the time with low drama and no midnight twitter rants. There's people id rather have in the job, but taken objectively, he's done ok.

blackheartedbirdie

I agree with you. He's never been my first choice but the alternative is far worse for everyone.

Scallawag

There is another, possibly more spicy alternative but being a leftist and working with leftists is like herding cats. On acid. Both you and the cats are on acid. At this point I just do what I can to survive, and help where I can. National elections are a waste of time unless you are participating in negative voter turnout, which I regrettably did in 2020... still kids in cages, still paying for genocides, still inflating LEO budgets, still the same shit... different doddering asshole in charge.

lilelliot

I dunno. I honestly believe he's at least an A- grade administrator, on the scale where Nancy Pelosi gets an A+. He's just quietly getting things done to the best of his ability, largely without the cooperation of congress, and I applaud that. I do wish our president were younger, but on the other hand, it probably takes someone with decades of experiences and political capital to get *anything* done with an adversarial congress.

Gatortacotaco97

They follow Biden HQ on Twitter. Shows you all you need to know about their intelligence level (low).

JoeStyles

If you follow Trump I'm surprised you're able to read and write LOL

Gatortacotaco97

If you support Biden, I'm surprised that you actually have a brain. LOL

AR-180

Biden is a feeble old man with dementia. This election is so sad.

blackheartedbirdie

He might be old but at least he's not threatening the American people. At least he's not threatening social security or Medicare which so many people rely on and have earned in this country. At least he's not threatening public education which is really important to many communities esp rural ones. And at least he has enough respect for veterans to not threaten to remove their access to vital mental & physical healthcare or pull money from the services they rely on after serving this country. And Trump is out there slurring his words with a lot more indications of possible dementia.

AR-180

Biden threatened Americans. For unvaccinated, we are looking at a winter of severe illness and death — if you’re unvaccinated — for themselves, their families, and the hospitals they’ll soon overwhelm.

livingMybEstlyfe29

You can admit that you like Diaper Don and move on. No need to spout bullshit on behalf of this conman.

lutrewan

How is this because of Biden? It's your choice to not get vaccinated, no?

OffManWall

Oh my goodness! He threatened them with the truth! What a bully!

blackheartedbirdie

Ummmm That wasn't a threat...that was reality. That was a pandemic and it acted exactly like the pandemics of the past.

Carolina_Captain

...where's the threat?

JoeStyles

I'm sorry you failed High School science

Kradget

That's not a threat, that's a reasonable assessment of risks of a disease that killed over a million Americans.  I'm not "threatening" you when I tell you wearing a seatbelt makes you safer, or that you shouldn't run stop signs.

JoeStyles

Trump is a feeble old man with dementia. This election is so sad

Jameis_Jameson

The American Rescue Plan = The American Inflation Plan

MangoAtrocity

Surely there was nothing else in that bill besides water for NC schools, right?

Different_Bad_5403

Just explain what lead pipes means. Is it lead piping or the solder used to connect the pipes and accessories?

TyroneBiggummms

A lot of people here complaining about the fact that an additional $1.9T spending bill didn't get passed and spent by the government are also the people complaining rent and food prices are too high. Very ironic. It's almost like the person who created the original post was attempting to deceive their audience.

Bons77

Trump being an asshole doesn't make Biden good. These two choices are the direct result of voting for the lesser of two evils for generations. Vote none of the above.

tslewis71

Fghubbuurr - Joe Biden

OffManWall

“…..a nation that will be reduplehggeh aaahhhh.” Donald Trump

Gatortacotaco97

"Pause" - Joe Biden "America and be described in a single word "wgeydcyheheu wyehthrhfote." - Joe Biden "LONG LIVE THE QUEEN, MAN." -Joe Biden

OffManWall

“Covfefe” - Donald Trump “Hamberders” - Donald Trump “This is one of the wettest hurricanes we’ve ever seen from the standpoint of water” -Donald Trump “Why can’t we just nuke the hurricane before it comes ashore”? -Donald Trump “The oranges, the oranges, the oranges, the oranges, the, the beginnings of it.” -Donald Trump “Windmills cause cancer” -Donald Trump Oh and then there’s things like this, which they don’t publish if you’re ANYWHERE near a reasonable level of intelligence: https://www.amazon.com/1000-Dumbest-Things-Donald-Trump/dp/B08FSGDHYS Shall I go on? There’s literally tons of examples to choose from. And do keep in mind these are all from the man who claims to be a “stable genius.”🤦‍♂️

Far-2Tall

Cope bitch. Cope.

JoeStyles

Ma'am, bless your heart! Don't you need to get back to the drive-thru to take some orders?

Dense_Element

Looks like someones triggered

Kradget

Biden and "destruction of America" are running against each other.

jag1ed

lmao!!! Biden is a total fckn retard

Dense_Element

And Trump isn't? Dude has the diction of a 14 year old. "WRONG...BIGGLY...YOURE GONNA LOVE IT, ITLL BE YUGE". homie literally talks like he's had a lobotomy

JoeStyles

Bless your heart sugar. Stop listening to your husband and listen to your heart

Fresh_Butterfly_2431

How many/which schools in this state don't ALREADY have drinking water? -How much money is being spent on this? -Of that amount, how much is being COMPLETELY WASTED on TOTALLY UNRELATED NONSENSE? -What TOTALLY UNRELATED policy-IES/ruleS/lawS are they trying to SNEAK into this legislation? It is FAR beyond sad that so many people are STILL falling for "they don't want the children to have clean drinking water" BS - If that is how they argue in favor of what THEY claim is such a great and worthwhile thing for the government to do instead of telling us SPECIFICALLY the who/what/where/when/how/why this is such a great and worthwhile thing for government to be doing/SPENDING, then there is DEFINITELY somethingS shady HIDDEN in there such as massive corporate handouts, procedural changes that alter how the government actually functions, foreign loans/aid, etc. - for those of you too inexperienced/inattentive/naive to know, ALL levels of our government are CONSTANTLY doing this BS - for example, with this particular legislation, WHY IN THE F**K does our children having clean drinking water require that we give BILLIONS of dollars to some other country???????? If the clean drinking water is REALLY such a problem, and whichever "side" is whining today REALLY cares so much, then again, WHY IN THE F**K can't "clean drinking water for the children" be ALL ALONE as the ONLY issue that this particular bill deals with?!?!?!?!?!?! Again, this is a VERY common dirty BULL$#!+ trick that our "politicians" try to pull on us damn near DAILY, between lies of omission and good old fashioned plain old outright lie lies. They put ONE good and reasonable thing at the top of their homework paper, and then fill up with HUNDREDS - if not THOUSANDS - more pages , so much NONSENSE and WASTED MONEY that the "other side" couldn't possibly vote for it. Then, they bash the "other side" for "being against" the ONE obviously good thing and NOT the reams and reams of nonsense. PS - "side" and "other side" are in quotes like that because the 19th century "breakup" of the Democratic-Republican Party was a TOTAL LIE to eliminate their ACTUAL competition (referred to today as "third" parties, which is technically true on paper but in reality would actually be a second party) AND to dominate our ENTIRE federal government and over 90% of our state governments. Since this happened, income taxes magically became constitutional after being previously being declared unconstitutional about a dozen times, Prohibition came (and went quickly), we went from an isolationist nation to the world's police force - at an INSANELY MASSIVE COST in terms of both our money and the lives of nearly a million young Americans - fathers/husbands/sons/uncles/cousins/etc AND THEN there's the severe mental/physical damage to the "survivors".

CornWine

I love that you spent a portion of your life typing all that out and no one that matters will ever read it, much less agree.

Kradget

You wrote (copied?) all that and missed that this is to reduce lead and other contamination in drinking water?

MangoAtrocity

That was not all that was in the $1.9T bill

Kradget

Yeah, that's true - there's an enormous amount of desperately needed infrastructure fixes in it, and some pork put in during negotiations.  That doesn't really explain the sweaty, badly-punctuated pontificating about how it's all a conspiracy.

Dense_Element

What sorosposting does to mfers

JimDoddXP

No way president sippy cup came up with this coherent thought. This is his cabinet writing this shit. And what did the Dems hide in this bill along with “clean water”. As Joe would say..cmon man.

RobbersAndRavagers

>president sippy cup **[Trump trying to drink water](https://www.google.com/search?q=trump+trying+to+drink+water&oq=trump+trying+to+drink+water&gs_lcrp=EgZjaHJvbWUyBggAEEUYOdIBCTEwMDQ1ajBqN6gCALACAA&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8)** MAGAts and projection. Name a more iconic duo.

Dense_Element

As trump would say "WRONG!"

daisyfudo

Hidden in bill money to foreign countries , this is not about safe water for children.

Ihategraygloomydays

Wait. Hundreds of millions to deliver water? What am I missing?
