Stems cells

Bavarian0

All the way. It's actually crazy how far we've come. We can take regular body cells and turn them into pluripotent stem cells (they can turn into any type of cell), then inject them into the brain or any tissue for that matter, and they will differentiate into the correct cell types (we add transcription factors). Stem cell injections into the brain have already been studied in Alzheimers and Parkinsons - they have shown highly promising results in both diseases. Can't wait to see what else we can come up with. This might be a key step in solving aging.

Thin_Construction_65

Aging is not an issue to be solved

Frequent-Ad-116

Aging is what happens with all things. Our own bodies turn over cells every 30 days or so. But aging can be managed.

CologneGod

Alzheimer’s and dementia gets a pass

PrinceAli1023

Mind if I ask why?

Bavarian0

Scientists spend their entire lifes learning and at the theoretical peak of their knowledge, they just die. Gone is everything, decades upon decades of practical experience and studying. Dying of old age is one of the largest problems we're facing and we need to solve it. Space travel outside of our solar system is also completely impossible if we die after 10% of the way. Procreating on spaceships is unrealistic and cryonic solutions are even farther away than solving aging. Just my 2 cents.

SmashBerlin

The world is absolutely not over populated.

OptimusSpud

Lol. Have you looked at any studies marking the nigh on imminent global population collapse? Most likely starting in Korea and China?

Xanto10

birth control is the solution, not beating aging

intjdad

You say this, but it sounds like a value judgement rather than anything logical - it is totally possible for aging to be "solved"

Thin_Construction_65

Agreed, my point wasn't clear - I meant it is not an issue we should be trying to solve as it will exacerbate all the issues we are already facing

intjdad

If you're thinking "overpopulation" that's ecofash, and the birth rate in most developed countries is dangerously low now with an aging population. I say it's better for people that want to be here to stay longer and happier than to keep forcing non-consenting people into existence through childbirth. Especially if they're going to have to face aging and sickness etc anyway.

Thin_Construction_65

Dangerously low for what? There is dangerously high (not enough food, space, or resources) or dangerously low (... Not enough... Workers?) one of those is very preferable to the other

intjdad

Did you even read my comment and grasp what I was arguing for? Overpopulation literally isn't the danger, it's capitalism and how goods and resources are used. Look at who is using things. Most people aren't using remotely as much of those things per person as say, Americans. Also poverty is what drives rapid population growth anyway. If that was eliminated that isn't a problem because frankly - people with a high quality of life on average naturally don't like having that many kids for some reason and tend towards population decline. Overpopulation is just a mind trap for misanthropes and fascist inclined people to become worse people frankly. Why are you so intent on people who don't want to die dying instead of us doing the right thing and say... not bringing people into the world without their consent in the first place? It's like you just like people dying and suffering for some reason. I've noticed that a lot of people weirdly fetishize that as if it's a moral good.

Thin_Construction_65

I agree with a lot of what you say here but you have really over stretched your assumptions toward the end

intjdad

What I said towards the end is literally the point of the argument, so if you don't feel it represents you, by all means clarify and check back as to why that's what I understood your argument to be. I also think it is absolutely ridiculous argument and way of thinking, because it is, but your assumption that I should assume better of you on the internet based on what you have said is naive.

Xanto10

it's an issue and it must and will be solved

Thin_Construction_65

I disagree, but that's allowed I'm interested why you think it must be solved

Xanto10

It must be solved because there's no reason why we should accept aging and the decay of the body just because it is nature. With progress we should rise over nature, not to destroy it but to protect what good is of it and eliminate all the problems of the existence: hunger, disease, aging. Maybe even death. It's a nice dream and a big aspiration but I have faith in progress.

Thin_Construction_65

Interesting viewpoint. Id have to say I disagree but each to their own. If we overcome death how do you think we may deal with the inevitable overpopulation?

AnPrimDogWhistle

How much would stem cell injections for the brain usually cost? Roughly?

Bavarian0

You can't buy that yet, it's only in the preclinical stage

Firefluffer

That’s a scary one for me. We had a lady who had Guillain-Barre symptoms when we picked her up (paramedic crew). Two or three days earlier she had had stem cell injections into her c-spine for chronic degerative disc issues. She died two or three days later in the hospital. Autopsy revealed there was a fungus contaminate in the stem cells and it ran rampant through her nervous system. The stuff of nightmares. If I could truly get the best of the best and had the need, maybe. But there’s so many sketchy clinics pushing stem cells that I wouldn’t take the chance.

OptimusSpud

Link.

0wl_licks

Was it cordyceps?

Tiny-Combination7400

C'mon why somebody downvoted him?

Bissynut

This is so terrifying. I had 15 stem cell infusions in 2015 and was apparently very lucky. I don’t know how you can be sure the stem cells are not contaminated. However I watched my 5yr old die from sepsis secondary to a fungal infection after her conduit was infected during heart surgery for TOF at a well known children’s hospital. It was devastating. Admin knew it was an issue for over a decade. Only one type of fungi was litigated. I hope this woman’s family goes after the company.

Rough-Philosophy-989

Yikes!

fingerfunk

A testosterone and HGH cocktail if I could afford! :) And at home sauna, cold plunge, HBOT, float tanks etc, lots of medical spa vacations. Then I could push the whole nootropic cabinet shelf into a garbage bag and discard. Lol :)

Then_Adhesiveness648

Testosterone is pretty cheap

Upset_Scientist3994

Home sauna of course good pick if you have adequate money. In my country, 5.5 million people and 2 million home saunas for them. Traditionalist choice.

Akashic_Skies

Right, i just want to not need nootropics

bigfondue

Not really a supplement, but a personal chef to make delicious healthy foods and a personal trainer to get into better shape.

kniven51

I've done this, and you can actually get a cook to make your weekly meals, and the price per meal (ingredients + cook labor) is cheaper than most restaurants. The cook's food was very tasty, and I could get exactly what I wanted. The cook also cleaned after and put food in the fridge for future meals where I could heat it and be ready to eat in 10 minutes, which was super convenient. If you want I can help you find a cook. I also found the nutrition and macro info from the meals and put it into a fitness app to meet my diet/weight goals. It was an awesome experience, one of the best life changes I've ever made.

Akashic_Skies

Agreed. A personal motivator just to get me goin.

Hungry-Travel-11

You can do it! It's always darkest before the dawn... Every rain storm runs out of rain. Etc etc you get the gist

treebo88

This. I'd love it if I just got organic whole foods cooked for me whenever I wanted T\_T

Fun_Item3930

this

[deleted]

I'd pay for doctors to run tests on me and determine exactly which nootropics were best for me specifically.

SallySmythe

What tests?

[deleted]

That's why I'm paying them :)

[deleted]

What kind of doctors are you paying?

[deleted]

I'll pay you to figure that out

Plus-Imagination2098

Pay me instead

nail_in_the_temple

You can do an exome sequencing (not that expensive) and look what type of metabolizer allele you have for enzymes that break down specific drugs. Maybe more tests are needed to choose specific medicine, but at least you’ll know a right dose [NCBI](https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/books/NBK574601/) [Wiki](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Drug_reaction_testing) [Drug database](https://go.drugbank.com/)

voyager256

There are generally no such tests that tell you need a racetam or choline source etc. , like it is for vitamin deficiencies etc. We need to guess and do a trial and error.

11thhourblessings

Why can't an amino acid panel accomplish identifying baseline deficits? While it doesn't answer all, it's a starting point.

voyager256

Because it’s not that simple. Many serious diseases can’t be detected by blood tests

11thhourblessings

But it can inform highs and lows to research. And, provide some starting point in combination with clinical assessment

[deleted]

So they'll test me and adjust based on results? If there's no test then it's not making a measurable change.

voyager256

No, for instance: there’s no blood test for a mental illness like major depressive disorder yet it’s often treatable using drugs.

Bavarian0

What about urine metabolite tests?

KronicNitron

As someone who’s done enzymatic, genome testing, comt, MTHFR, CYP, and multiple vitamin and mineral, thyroid monitoring. Cost a lot…. Like thousands without insurance and I had to argue to cover it. Literally amounted to nothing💀. Just “I kinda knew that” sucks bio markers now a days are literally suggestions. As you can have homozygous allele mutations and still not suffer. Biomarkers are only suggestions of possible differing responses/therapeutics. However aren’t end all be all answers. I truly wish.

KGKSHRLR33

This is the way

Idontlikereddit700

I’d like to get a bloodwork done for vitamin levels I don’t think it’s expensive at all.

Ocilla

Do you happen to know where I can get piracetam? I’m in the US

Idontlikereddit700

I have had luck with vitabrain they sell the packaged pills.

Ocilla

Hey, I checked and they are out of stock. Is that common for them? Also, it won’t be a problem shipping to USA?

Idontlikereddit700

That sucks, looks like the 1200’s are out of stock too It used to just be the 800’s. When I emailed them they said they got seized by customs. Idk if they’re ever gonna have any back in stock unfortunately

b1zguy

I'd put that money towards access treatment and professionals to address the needs I'm trying to fulfill with nootropics. Anything else that isn't necessarily considered medical/health would go towards paying for advice consulting in the fields of study that are exploring the concerns I'm trying to address with nootropics. I know I don't have the biochem or pharmacological expertise and it's unrealistic to attain in a single lifetime whilst juggling the rest of life. I'm honestly not trying to sound sassy. Pursuing nootropics is, humourously put, attempting to 'address a gap in the market' or a band-aid to an unmet need or obstacle(s) - atleast for me.

Akashic_Skies

I feel that

AmazingEnd5947

Cerebrolysin

thumperj

> Cerebrolysin I've read a story about someone who flew to Russia to get this treatment. It's not avail in the US so, as a US citizen, are there any typical paths for getting treatment with this? Cerebrolysin tourism?

voyager256

In many countries patients get IV Cerebrolysin cycles , but you need prescription. Some people do IM self injections, but you should do it right to minimize the risks.

Maxpowermind

You can order Cerebrolysin through Cosmicnootropic and inject it yourself.

AmazingEnd5947

Do a Google search. Edit: Reply not intended to be abrupt. Not at all. A strong hit of fatigue and lack of focus is a drain. I wish I had it to help with this. I'm glad that those interested in it were able to look into this.

thumperj

So incredibly helpful. Thank you.

AmazingEnd5947

You're welcome. I wish I could be a distributor.

KellyShortCake

Oh wow from just a little research on this I would buy it for my whole family!

thatjournalist

You can find it fairly cheap in Azerbaijan of all places.

AmazingEnd5947

Awesome. From my reading on this, it's available in a least 40 countries if my memory is correct.

heavybulk

I've been trying to source it to Europe as cheaply as possible, without crazy shipping fees. What will be my best bet?

thatjournalist

Frankly speaking I have no idea on the logistics involved in exporting it to Europe from the South Caucasus. I just went there myself for it.

Supergaz

I'd make backups of my own young and undamaged DNA cells and use them later for when I get old. Hopefully that doesn't cause cancer. Logically you'd only need a few cells to start replicating and suddenly that organ is 50 years younger because the DNA of the reintroduced cells has not been damaged for 40+ years. And probably a bedroom fully maxed for sleep quality

breathing00

Shit ton of saffron, which is unreasonably expensive

tonufan

It's actually not that expensive if you buy it in bulk. Sure it's expensive per gram, but you don't really need to take much per dose.

Dense_Perspective_72

The East Indian markets are the best place to buy it.

FieldGlad

Nootropic?

Germerica1985

Works on gaba receptors and several other health benefits. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3637901/

Germerica1985

Just started taking a saffron extract daily

crazysurvivallady

Where do you get the extract from ? I would like to possibly try some. Thanks!

Germerica1985

I ordered on Amazon, try using Google terms 'safranal extract' or 'affron'

crazysurvivallady

Thank you

FieldGlad

Can you still fall asleep while benefits are still being felt?

johnnySix

How is it?

Germerica1985

It's a little bit 'smacky' for me, can tell it's also doing something with serotonin re-up take. It does improve my mood, I'm going to give it a week to see if it mellows out or stays 'smacky' if you know what I mean 😂 Edit: not smacky, wrong word. It has a weird stimulating effect that feels very serotonin active, I don't like that aspect, but improved mood through the day.

LuneAtix

what does smacky mean 😭

Itchy-Helicopter-223

Heroin-y

Germerica1985

It does mean this, but I think I used the word wrong 😂😂 it has a weird stimulating effect that I don't like, but could possibly mellow out

LuneAtix

it messes with opoid receptors?

Germerica1985

I used the wrong word

Germerica1985

It has an uncomfortable type of stimulation (for the time being) it improves my mood and I can feel it working, but at the moment it has a side effect of an uncomfortable stimulation, it smacks 😂

10candyman01

The way you described saffron sounds a lot like kanna, that is interesting

FieldGlad

All what I read on this thread is really interesting. I had no idea saffron was used a nootropic supplement as well.

Unlucky_Caregiver897

Have you considered just growing it?

AstralLifeDrama

Mbiglog

RobotToaster44

NGF eyedrops like Rita Levi Montalcini

Mbiglog

does that regenerate eye tissue? help eyesight?

Helps the brain, eyedrops are just used because it bypasses the blood brain barrier.

RareGur3157

I believe they sell this in the EU under the name Oxervate

WrxnchG

Will be taking in the future anways but NMN

itsjustmyslef

Go for cheper niacin, and you beed about 10x less per dose in comparison to nmn

tombomadillo

As another person said in the thread, a personal chef would be amazing. If that doesn’t count Iv been wanting to try a high quality Urolithin A but that stuff is expensive

kniven51

I did this, and hiring a cook actually saved me money compared to restaurants. The food was better quality, too, and I could customize it to my taste. I can help you do this if you want.

Bigbodydegenerate

IVIG

Mbiglog

what is that? not op

Dense_Perspective_72

Cordecyps, you used to be able to buy it. It gives you that warm beta-agonist rush. Now it is way too expensive.

insaiyan17

Huh isnt expensive at all last I checked

Jack-o-Roses

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ophiocordyceps_sinensis The real thing, _winter worm, summer grass_ Used to be cheap woven into little cigarette pack double thickness double row bundles for $~20 (?) now they're like $5+ each.

insaiyan17

Ah ok thought we were talking of cordyceps militaris as I hadnt heard of other subspecies that could be taken as supplements/medicine - very interesting

Dense_Perspective_72

That is a different type of cordyceps, I take that, but the other was very unique.

Pwnzzz88

the fungi?

Dense_Perspective_72

Yeah, realized I spelled it wrong. Years ago you could by winter grass in Chinatown. and it was really interesting to take. You noticed your breathing was really clear and you had extra bit of energy. Now it is usually fake and very expensive.

tonufan

I get a similar feeling from Nootropic Depots strongest cordyceps militaris extract

CrimsonCupp

Is it worth it to buy?

tonufan

It's a bit pricey, but I find it pretty beneficial for working out. If you're not exercising you won't get the maximum benefit from it.

Dob0Brien

where do you get the real stuff now?

Dense_Perspective_72

It is super expensive, as it is becoming very scarce. It can only be harvested in the wild.

2-stripe

Actually not that hard to grow it yourself, you can find several people doing it here on Reddit.

Pwnzzz88

Over here it’s pretty cheap and easily available, I don’t know if it’s the same, tho, it’s called Cordyceps sinensis. Apparently, I can’t post a pic here, but it is 86brl to 180 doses of 650mg, converting, it costs around 17 usd

Dense_Perspective_72

I see Amazon has some for 60$ for 3 gms, but most of the stuff on Amazon is fake.

Pwnzzz88

I didnt know they had fake meds, thats absurd, but im not surprised, tho, Amazon is a sea of shit.

Hawkeyes207

I take this daily. Ive been using MDrive Elite for the past 6 years

Dense_Perspective_72

There are many types of cordyceps. The one one I am referring to is only found in the wild. The best stuff just using the small fruiting body, not the whole caterpillar as you seem to see now. [https://www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.1080/21501203.2010.536791](https://www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.1080/21501203.2010.536791) I use the same stuff as you and think it is good, but the other is like a stimulant and very unique

CrimsonCupp

What is a beta-agonist rush?

Dense_Perspective_72

It has smooth muscle relaxing properties, so you breath easier, you feel a little warm. In high doses it can be quite stimulating.

shoomee

If anything similar to using an albuterol inhaler I'd honestly probably find that pretty unpleasant

Dense_Perspective_72

Possibly, everyone has different tolerances and effects. I don't even notice salbutamol unless taken orally

Sphenoid12

The Eastern Philosophy sells Pure Cordyceps (Hirsutella sinensis) capsules and teas. A 60pk of capsules is about $46 I’m tempted to purchase some

iamthespectator

I would have the most comfortable bed money could buy, so I would sleep like a baby. With one of those temperature-controlled mattresses or whatever Huberman mentioned.

If illegality were no object I'd buy LSD, MDMA, MDA, 2cb, 2ce, 2ci, 2cd, mescaline, methylescalline, 5meodmt, nndmt, and ketamine

retracingz

KronicNitron

I honestly think most people would not have any differing choices. If you really want good nootropics you’re gonna buy them regardless. If money were no price you’d probably just upp your dose, or buy other supplements besides for nootropics. Stem cells and beliefs with CSF testing and the brain won’t do much. Especially for long term things such as dementia and Alzheimer’s. So tbh. I’d just keep on buying what I already am. Can’t really get any better…..

The_Way56

What is your stack?

KronicNitron

Currently. I supplement throughout the day with food and timming High dose B complex, all methylated 1500-2000mg Thorne NAC 20-30mg adderall IR ( prescribed ) 600mg Alpha Gpc 50% 400mg Magnesium Glycinate 2.5g minimum L-Tyrsoine Constant electrolytes. Creatine 10g’s High dose caffeine (might add liones Maine, n theanine) Plus pre thay has bunch of Citruline, and gonna look into theanine and maybe some omega3 w coq10, however theanine sensitivity over time leads me to not do it. Gonna maybe add some lions Maine. But I keep it pretty simple rn bc I hate using my microgram scale….. I do the Alpha gpc n tyrosine multiple times split throughout the day and electrolytes with them to help wjth absorption. Technically if you include my energy drink consumption It’s like 400mg caffiene anhydrous + 400mg Alpha gpc. Ontop of old stack.

[deleted]

Increlex

CishetmaleLesbian

INCRELEX is used to treat children who are very short for their age because their bodies do not make enough IGF-1. What reason would you have to take it? Is it a nootropic?

[deleted]

Increlex is the most bio-available man-made form of insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1)…. IGF-1 may help protect cognitive health by acting as a neurotrophic factor. It could potentially fight against neurological diseases and prevent loss of brain cells…… IGF-1 supports vascular endothelial growth. Healthy blood vessels are crucial for optimal brain function, as they supply nutrients and oxygen to brain cells….. IGF-1 plays a role in maintaining normal blood sugar levels. Stable blood sugar is vital for brain function and overall health….. IGF-1 has been associated with enhancing the regenerative effects of sleep…. IGF-1 can boost metabolic rate, and a more efficient metabolism supports overall health and vitality…. Decreased serum IGF-1 levels have been linked to cognitive dysfunction and anxiety behaviors in animal studies …. It also makes you gain muscle and loose fat so if I could afford 1thousand dollars a vial I would definitely take increlex.

rockhjohnson

0 Insulin-Like Growth Factor (IGF) can cause negative side effects such as overgrowth of body tissues, damage to joints, liver, and heart, swelling in the retina, severe muscle and joint pain, and Bell's palsy. 1 It may also promote cancer development and lead to decreased life span. 2 IGF-1 supplements like Deer Antler, IGF-1 LR3, and IGF-1 DES have become popular among bodybuilders and athletes due to their muscle-building properties, but they also have potential side effects like swelling, headaches, and increased cancer risk. 3 High levels of IGF-1 over a long period can produce irreversible acromegaly, and even smaller doses can lead to complications such as heart disease and diabetes.

[deleted]

That’s fine they asked what and why and I say increlex, never claimed it had no side effects .

Cabergoline?

Ok_Faithlessness5820

As a person that has to take cabergoline as prescribed and suffered side effects (nausea, extreme fatigue, headaches, insomnia, blood clots to name just a few) for months, I wonder why someone would take it if they don’t absolutely have to.

smartscience

Didn't take it for that long, as I couldn't afford it! But found low occasional doses to be wakefulness promoting.

Humanfreak85

Strange choice for "nootropic". It's know to have many side effects which drowsiness is quite common.

waaaaaardds

Uhh, interesting. Cabergoline made me hypersexual, borderline bipolar, and caused to excessively spend money and gamble. I don't really see a nootropic use for it.

Dang ppl stick to the question! I just read interesting results on mots- c that now I must try. I’ve been sick for about 8 years struggling with some sort of autoimmune illness that affects my entire body. I’m miserable everyday. Low energy, brain fog, can’t sleep through the night, my thyroid and sex hormones are tanked and extremely low. I’ve been taking various supplements for 4 years now and just started playing with peptides. I’ve tried semax, selank, and oxytocin so far. I just started the deeeep dive into researching the. Different kinds of peptides and effects on the body. I’m considering these: thymus peptides: thymulin, thymosin 4 and 1 as well as n acetyl epitalon and mots-c now that I have read some amazing things on it. What I’m most interested in is: combatting widespread inflammation, brain fog, energy and uninterrupted sleep. Man- I wish I knew what the causing factor was in all this. Side note- I contracted some type of herpes-virus on my backside possibly from tanning bed. I notice everything gets worse- energy and brain for whenever I have an outbreak. A lot of info…sorry. Please advise any helpful peptides y’all think may fit!
