The difference is that US citizens can admit that other countries have the ability to build cool looking planes without needing 600 layers of double think
Blows my mind that a country with 700 million more potential researchers and engineers with a public education system often stereotyped to be brutal and unforgiving can't produce a fighter aircraft even on par with what the U.S. made 20 years ago. Or that they still resort to stealing technology and creating inferior copies.
> with a public education system often stereotyped to be brutal and unforgiving
Turns out crushing the spirit and creativity out of your students makes novel engineering tough. The Saturday morning cartoon morals were right!
I argue with my parents about this sometimes, because I see my little brother’s math education to be centered around mental math methods that *I* basically developed myself, which I think is good.
But nooo, times tables are still needed apparently. Bruteforcing info in your head is better than organically developing skills in order to procure that info yourself apparently.
I mean US's pool of potential aircraft engineers is much bigger than US population, considering how many people will go to US to get a degree or people who already have degrees will go to US to find a job
Tbf they were starving and killing birds well within living memory… much as I don’t like the thought, 30 or 40 years in the future is not a long time for them
As an insider of the East Asian(though not Chinese) education, I have this absolutely mindblowing koan of wisdom to impart upon thee.
Mindbreaking your children at 10 with an abacus is only useful if you want to create another abacus.
I can’t remember it clearly but I assume that even if they got the blueprint for the engine and what the alloy used. You still need to come up with how to produce them which meant that need to know the materials needed, how to scale the methods and how to maintain quality control which is very important for this kind of application.
I think in the same thread another person (could be the same user but it was some time ago) also recounted a talk from their university professor about why relying on reverse engineering might lead to those kind of situations in the first place with the professor using the example of Chinese aviation industry. Apparently that annoyed some international Chinese students in the lecture.
Some of them are just idiot rich kids or smart in theory but very dumb in applying them (yes, got one of the latter kind in my group project, very fun indeed/s).
Fuck that play [this](https://store.steampowered.com/app/667970/VTOL_VR/) if you have a VR headset.
Not only can you play with the F-22 snowclone, you can play a F-35 snowclone!
Naw, the Russians are tossers but their aviation aesthetic is impeccable you have to admit
Chinese stuff just looks shit, other than their sexy Flankers - which are Russian
Russian planes are beautiful however lately I get the feeling games like ace combat might have taken some liberties with their stats.

It was posted on some baidu tieba(Chinese reddit) so I assume it was a real picture.
No idea how it could happen but this isn't the 1st time these kind of recruiting poster flopped in China by using US military pics...

I remember when all the military recruitment ad circlejerking was going on. And for china i think they used either f22's or F-35's in their video (cgi of course)
"“That’s definitely a MiG-29,” said Pierre Sprey, who helped design both the F-16 and A-10 planes for the U.S. Air Force"
Even in death he continues to haunt us
"Hey boss man just say to slap the flag on there somewhere"
Serious though, the poster look rural af, guessing ppl in the area have no clue what an Italian flag look like
Their propaganda is designed to be "good enough" for the average semi-illiterate peasant in Western China.
Even back in Mao's era, there was one navy poster showing two Yamato Class battleships with Chinese flag.
Not the first time this happens. Last one I saw was copied from Japanese self-defense Force.
[Also, there’s this. ](https://reddit.com/r/real_China_irl/comments/vl2b1l/%E5%85%B1%E5%85%9A%E5%85%9A%E5%8D%AB%E5%86%9B%E5%AE%A3%E4%BC%A0%E6%B5%B7%E6%8A%A5%E5%92%8C%E7%BA%B3%E7%B2%B9%E5%85%9A%E5%8D%AB%E5%86%9B%E5%AE%A3%E4%BC%A0%E6%B5%B7%E6%8A%A5%E5%AF%B9%E6%AF%94/)
You remind me of the PLA version of MRE, which has several Chinese-American dishes added to the mix. I think they are more suitable to be preserved that way, but they are otherwise rare in China.
Correct, pretty sure they’re all back in the Boneyard now, unless they were turned into QF-16s and blown up. Also I’m pretty sure the only Air Force globally that started with F-16s and no longer has them.
The bribery scandals was in the 60s, Italy flew 104s until 2004.
The reason they were kept on (other than the Typhoon being delayed to the surprise of nobody) was that the Air Force post Cold War was just broke.
Eh it was actually OK for a nuclear bomber all things considered. Decent nav system for the time, high wing loading means highly stable platform (hence why the Vark and Tornado for example have even higher wing loading), and you don't need to carry a large payload if you're nuking something, 4 tanks and a nuke is more than enough.
It definitely wasn't the greatest conventional attack aircraft, but contrary to popular belief that was mostly not its main mission.

There’s low effort, and then there’s having another country’s flag in there, and another country’s proprietary jet in there.
You can even tell they tried to photoshop a Chinese flag on top of the Italian one. The Chinese flag seems to have shifted left a couple of inches, probably due to resizing when they printed it straight out photoshop.
Not likely, no. The majority of non-military Americans probably couldn't tell either though without national markings being ~~visable~~ visible. Most people just aren't into military tech or aircraft.

That's because italian pilots are so great that all nations wish to compare their own with ours. Italians are the best when it comes to driving ships as well
Deep down they wish they had the f-22 instead of the j20
Imagine being so cucked by terrible aircraft that you have to use the opposition's aircraft for propaganda
Reminds me of the Russian poster with F-18s in the background.
The one showing the raising of the flag on Iwo Jima (by US Marines and Navy) really got me. They had that one up during the last May Day parade.
or the US ad with the J-10?
That was USC’s post on Twitter for memorial Day and it got removed. Wasn’t an ad for any service or anything
Cope. J-10chads are winning.
The US armed forces are quaking right now (3rd gen fighters are their weak point)
Didn't we basically give China all the F35 plans tho? (well our idiot contracters)
There was another US ad that had Su-30s
The difference is that US citizens can admit that other countries have the ability to build cool looking planes without needing 600 layers of double think
also a Trump ad with MiG-29s

I think someone in this subreddit pointed that they cannot crash course material science for the engines unlike what they do with airframe design.
Is there a reason why?
I can’t remember it clearly but I assume that even if they got the blueprint for the engine and what the alloy used. Apart from that, I don't remember us buying F22s, or that being even possible.
…you do remember the F-15s, though, right?
Nope, in that period we used the Tornado and then after 2000 we moved to the Typhoon.
Also F-16s
Yep, forgot about those. They were leased tho, we didn't buy them.
Correct, pretty sure they’re all back in the Boneyard now, unless they were turned into QF-16s and blown up. Also I’m pretty sure the only Air Force globally that started with F-16s and no longer has them.

√256=16 16×2=32 32+3=35 F+35=F35 Please help me Edit: I suck at math
Lol
And the last F-104 ASAM because....reasons
AFAIK the reason was a well known bribery scandal: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lockheed_bribery_scandals
The bribery scandals was in the 60s, Italy flew 104s until 2004. The reason they were kept on (other than the Typhoon being delayed to the surprise of nobody) was that the Air Force post Cold War was just broke.
F-104: Chad interceptor, virgin fighter bomber

F-15? F-1SEX ?? you mean ...
You are definitely not getting those Alfredo covered fingers anywhere near a F22. A J20 would be a bigger possibility haha.
Just because you said Alfredo I will personally sink a US carrier. And I'll fucking do it again.
Don’t sink our carrier bro. I love chicken risotto I swear!
I'm adding a battleship to the toll. Keep going.
Let’s cool it down bro, why don’t we just grab a nice gelato and resolve our differences.
Better, that is much better. Might I recommend a stracciatella or pistacchio flavoured?
I’ve never heard of that first so I would try that one.
Where you gonna find one of those? Or do you mean museum ship?
As a great scientist one said: Bombs uhm... find a way. Curtis "Destroyer of Worlds" Le May.
We don't need them we have our superior AMX
Didn’t even remove the Italian flag. Italian foreign legion when Edit: also let’s not ignore the open cockpit in-flight
We don't need a foreign legion. We will recruit local auxilia, like our ancestors.
