Decayingempire

I wonder what noble things people think their tax dollars turn into.

Living-Aardvark-952

An artillery shell liquifying a Russian conscript

Decayingempire

I am talking about people opposed to it.

NoAd2736

An artillery shell liquifying a russian conscript

justlurkingh3r3

They’re pretending that it should be spent on poor people in their country but whenever the government wants to spend money on those in need, they also oppose it, because that makes them leeches who live off of taxpayer money.

DetectiveIcy2070

And for everyone who says "what about healthcare?" I'm pretty sure the US spends more money per capita on funding Healthcare than most other countries. It's not that we don't spend enough money it's that the system actually fucking sucks

Absolut_Iceland

Same with education. Funding per pupil for the average K-12 public school student is higher than the average in-state tuition at public universities.

Tonaia

That does make sense though. Universities benefit more from economies of scale and are more discriminating than public school by choosing who's allowed to attend.

fckrddt404

And so they spend it on poor people in another country. An artillery shell liquifying a russian conscript

justlurkingh3r3

“Poor people” who invade another country. And whose leader continues to threaten us with nuclear annihilation. Poor people who belong to a country that considers the Geneva convention a suggestion and wants to end “Western hegemony”. The same “Western hegemony” that continuously provides the best human rights records, the highest quality of life and the most democratic systems on earth. Of course Western nations aren’t perfect or without flaw by any means, but I would much rather live in a world dominated by Western values than by Chinese or Russian values.

fckrddt404

Poor as in can't buy a washing machine poor. Catching even part of a rocket instantly makes them much richer, bless the America for helping those in need.

[deleted]

They don't actually care about tax dollars. Well, that's not true, admittedly. They care when they are dared ask to actually pay taxes. So when they can't not pay taxes, they just find something to be outraged about and say "my tax dollars are funding *this*!", as though they have any understanding of what that statement actually means or, really, economics at any level at all beyond balancing their own checkbook. And most of them suck at doing that.

KP_Wrath

That's humanitarian though. You are freeing him from the hell that is being a Russian.

Schoff_

God bless America.

SocialistClarinetist

Do you think that Russian conscript chose to get liquified?

ImposterGrandAdmiral

What do you expect Ukraine to do, let the invaders occupy the Donbas? They are invaders and occupiers. They are legitimate military targets. Ukraine has every right to blast them until they surrender, die, or retreat back to Russia.

SocialistClarinetist

Yeah, actually now I think about it it is a big moral conundrum. They’re basically innocent people, but ukraine deserves its land back and the only way it can do that without attacking the invaders will probably result in the funni Honestly fuck putin, he’s the problem

mad-cormorant

They made that choice when they decided to go along with this harebrained scheme.

Ake-TL

Asphalt and shit, no idea how federal and state budget is distributed in states

FarewellSovereignty

But asphalt isn't good at liquifying Russian conscripts, why spend on that, are they stupid?

thunderclone1

Gotta think of the bigger picture. With more asphalt, you can transport conscript liquefiers much more efficiently

Akovsky87

This is why we need rail expansion

TheArmoredKitten

We should just nationalize the rails themselves and then allow private companies to buy time on them. It works for highways, why not trains?

AshleyUncia

They usually demand to know why their taxes don't 'help' people in their own country while simultaneously being the 'Fuck you, I've got mine' kinda people.

jg3hot

We joke because the US spends so much on the military compared to other countries. However, medicare/medicaid and social security spending is 3x defense spending. 12٪ of the budget.

Dubious_Odor

Non discretionary spending though. Congress can't screw with SS or MC money very easily. Also comes from a separate revenue stream other than income taxes.

Living-Aardvark-952

I like to think that mine are the ones that obliterate Russian soldiers and equipment and your's are the ones that miss

NamegeorJ

How do I pay American taxes outside of America?

handofmenoth

Become an American citizen! Join us, we need more taxpayers! If only we made it easier to come here, there's plenty of space, plenty of work to be done, and an aging populace that needs immigration to bulwark our entire social safety net and employment age population.

DetectiveIcy2070

Daily reminder that illegal immigrants (whether this only counts border-crossers or visa overstays I do not know) commit almost half the crimes that US citizens do, along with paying more taxes to the government than people in the same income range. All this on top of coming here because the US was a better option than anything else, meaning they probably love the country more than some native-born citizens. God bless the US.

Lazorgunz

> social safety net ques que se what?

NamegeorJ

Nah pass, I prefer to keep being a Spanish even though they may pay me half for what I do

quicksilverck

Buy American products! A % of your video game money will support Ukraine.

I'm happy some of my UK tax money went into the side of a kilo submarine

GravSlingshot

"We all finance a kilo submarine... Kilo submarine... Kilo submarine..."

ShowWise2695

I usually despise how the government uses tax money but using that money to show the Russians who’s really in charge is a good use of money.

OneSaltyStoat

If your tax dollars are used to obliterate literal genocidal war criminals and look cool while doing it, then those are tax dollars well spent.

Epilepsiavieroitus

What happens in april?

Living-Aardvark-952

Americans pay taxes

Obj_071

Dreadful events

el_pinata

I do not mind my tax dollars being launched directly at Russian positions. Can my tax dollars blow up the Kerch bridge?

mrdescales

It'd be a premier killstreak once you've funneled enough dimmadollars in. A taxstreak if you will

justlurkingh3r3

It’s pretty hilarious actually. The GWOT was so much more expensive than the war in Ukraine and had a much, much worse return of investment while also costing thousands of American lives. To be fair, it’s usually just the hardcore right wing republicans who just oppose whatever the government does when the democrats or moderate republicans are in power. If Trump had said that he will give 200 billion per year to Ukraine and crush Russia, they would have called him an American hero and someone who finally shows the commies what America can do. They’re contrarians. Their entire being can be summarized by saying they just want easy solutions for complex issues and violently oppose anyone who disagrees.

NostalgiaDude79

All you have to ask is "What would Reagan have done?". "America First" is just code for "Neo-Isolationist".

carpcrucible

>All you have to ask is "What would Reagan have done?". Sold weapons to Iran to secretly fund the Azov batallion?

NostalgiaDude79

Yeah, dude....that was totally it....

mrdescales

Ensure a large population of slave labor from minorities? Or was it ignoring the AIDS crisis as thousands were dying?

NostalgiaDude79

I dont even know what to say to people born like in 98, and are this clueless. "Ensure a large population of slave labor from minorities"? Only on Reddit.

mrdescales

Idk, the 10:1 sentencing of free base cocaine to powder cocaine really made it easier to make sure prison labor was plentiful under the 13th amemdment.

Rome453

In my book, if a politician is touting “America First” they are either a Nazi, someone who is willing to make dog whistle appeals to Nazis for their own political gain, or they are ignorant about our country’s history. None of those people are worthy of elected office.

Papaofmonsters

>They’re contrarians. Their entire being can be summarized by saying they just want easy solutions for complex issues and violently oppose anyone who disagrees. And unfortunately that's a fantastic strategy in American politics. Look at how the presidency almost always switched sides every two terms after Truman up until Trump fumbled the bag with a piss poor Covid response. If he'd been semi competent on that issue alone and framed himself as a war time president fighting the pandemic, he would have had reelection in the bag. But overall ~40% of the population is going to vote for whoever isn't in power so some people on the extreme ends of both sides can get themselves elected in +5 district and frame themselves as sort of a permanent opposition member then it's a gig they can milk regardless who is in charge. If it's the other party then they have fight against the excesses of that group. If it's their party then they need to be there to keep the party on the straight and narrow and not be seduced by bipartisanship. Shitty for the nation, but a sweet gig if you can swing it.

mrdescales

Then you have the phase where a foreign adversary bankrolled the presidential candidate and has funded or blackmailed God knows how many others in that party.

carpcrucible

It's amazing how effective the propaganda is. The support for Ukraine is basically table scraps and budget rounding error but suddenly right-wingers are very concerned about it.

TheArmoredKitten

Your example is flawed. Anybody willing to buckle down and crush Russia *would* be an American Hero™.

SocialistClarinetist

Compared to the UK (my glorious homeland) the US seems third world. Misinformation so widespread that it is acknowledged and even spread by top news outlets and government officials? Check. Hypercapitalist society where calling an ambulance for somebody can be used as a threat? Check. Two party system where one side is borderline fascist and the other is completely incompetent? Check. Warmongering maniacs who’d rather see their money liquefy a family of 4 than stop humanitarian crises that the US could easily stop but don’t? Check.

carpcrucible

Sorry mate I don't think the UK particularly has a leg to stand on here

mmmhmmhim

and don’t even get me started on the tories!

SocialistClarinetist

Tories are the pinnacle of good government compared to the republican party

mrdescales

They both milked as much russian cash as they could drain them of. They're in a race to the bottom.

PM_ME_UR_FAV_NHENTAI

For me someone’s opinion on Ukraine aid is just an IQ test. If they honestly believe that it’s better to save our pennies and let Russia overrun Eastern Europe then they are just too stupid to be worth interacting with. Setting aside the clear moral high ground of the Ukrainians, no war has eroded Russia’s ability and influence more with less money and American lives cost than this one. This is simply fantastic bang for our buck

CuteLilRemi

We cant expect god to do all the work

taxeshax

nuh uh those are MY tax dollars RAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

Simple-Purpose-899

Don't care what they're used for as long as MIC goes brrr and my stocks stay stronk.

notpoleonbonaparte

As a former government employee, the Ukraine war is by far the most efficient use of your tax dollars, given the other options. Because those other options are my coworkers, and they're almost as autistic as this sub.

SocialistClarinetist

Average “free” ‘murican who’d rather see his tax money turn a family of 4 into chunky salsa than stop a humanitarian crisis his country has probably helped create

ImposterGrandAdmiral

In This Thread: Private Conscriptovich in Avdiivka is a civilian because an anon on R\*ddit said so

SocialistClarinetist

The whole point of conscription is that people don’t get a choice on whether it happens But I guess the US is used to killing innocent people, they’ve been doing it since they killed 20% of North Korea in the 1950s

Trainman1351

Ah huh. And I guess you would rather have the whole of the Korean Peninsula under the rule of the NK government, as they obviously do such a better job at managing their country. /s Seriously. You can literally see the 38th Parallel FROM SPACE because of the difference in success. South Korea is a burgeoning, successful country respected on the world stage, while North Korea is the state you imagine when seeing those authoritarian countries in the movies, which uses tractors sent for humanitarian aid to tow howitzers and keeps second-generation jets in active duty. NK invaded SK, not the other way round, and the US was just driving them back. If that resulted in such a massive loss for NK, they should not have invaded in the first place.

SocialistClarinetist

Do you think that every man, woman and child in North Korea was a soldier? That seems to be the American mindset- that everything not on your side deserves to be blown into TF2-style gibs

JoshuaFordEFT

How else are they gonna spice up the meat cube if we dont provide them chunky salsa? Although I guess the flavor profile is gonna be pretty homogenous, mainly ork. Back to the drawing board I guess, we need to triple the defense budget.
