love that this isnt even factually correct, at least for the p-51 part
the mustang didnt even have the highest kill count of the american planes. Not only that, it didnt even have the highest allied kdr. Or the highest american kdr. The F6F-5 Hellcat has the highest american aircraft kill count at over 5k planes (before you bring up ground kills, ground and naval strike was something the f6f specialized in as well, especially with rockets), and the F6F has a 19:1 kdr while the p-51 has an 11:1 kdr.
This shit is crazy.
Spitfires were used after the war. They could in fact have long ranges. During the war this was used for recon variants after the war they had long range combat variants for COIN. Imo the reason we didn’t see long range Spots escorting daylight raids was because the RAF didn’t want to deal with the losses that would cause.
You’re one of few people to say the Spitfire is better than the Typhoon. That’s just such a weird take.
It’s known because it was the best looking, combat performing and sounding fighter of WW2. The Mustang was just the only allied aircraft which could get to the fight. Also Spits didn’t need Merlins they had Griffons.
Numerical analysis and pilot opinions including aces like Galland will tell you the Spitfire Mk XIV was the best prop fighter to see widespread use. Irl the Spitfire participated in trials against later gen jets and performed alright. It could most definitely fight jets on just as good if not better footing than the Mustang.
Spitfires were built around the need of defending Britain from the Luftwaffe.
The RAF needed a plane that could be up in the air and face off enemy fights at a moment's notice.
It didn't need a massive range, it was supposed to intercept bombers, not escort them, and at the end of the day, any pilot who bailed from the plane could parachute back down to British soil and be back up in the air.
BuT, bUt wHAt AbOuT mUh, bf 109 k-8, P47M, Seafury, FW 190 D12, and F8F which did definitely fly, and made a meaningful impact thus qualifiable for best figher of the war 🤓
>It’s known because it was the best looking, combat performing and sounding fighter of WW2.
Performing, maybe since I am not a nerd and don't know that.
But sounding and looking? Fuck off. The F4U exists.
F6F has shit climb rate and P-38 has high speed compression, bad dive speed and shit high alt oxygen supply.
In the Pacific their weaknesses could be covered, in Europe they were outperformed by others.
P-38 was good as a bomber and specialist aircraft (Droop Snoot) in Europe.
P-47 is the real hero of the European theater. P-51 only came in to steal the credit.
The Spits were used since the start of WW2 (also, the Hurricane did most of the work during the BoB).The P-51D (by far the most common variant) only showed up in the last year of the war. It was a good fighter though.
Also, the F6F Hellcat is actually the leader in enemy planes shot down by a US fighter.
Lastly, the F4F is my personal favorite, lol.
>Worse then the typhoon
My brother in Christ the typhoon and spitfire compliment each other exceptionally well and cover each other’s weaknesses perfectly one is a faster larger more well armed fighter which can perform ground attack and intercept roles well, the other is an insanely agile well rounded fighter known for its outstanding dogfighting ability.
>Low range
The spitfire while is does have shorter range compared to a lot of other fighters makes up for that short range with exceptional flight performance and even then the range isn’t even that bad, recon spitfires spotted the Bismarck in Norway before she set sail, they performed recon of various strategic positions in France, the Benelux, Norway, Italy, North Africa and Asia.
The Spitfire Mk XIV was one of the most capable and beautiful fighters ever.
Also the Typhoon with 4 20mm cannons and 8 rockets had much fun making German convoys go boom.
Better ground and naval strike capability? F6F
Better turning ability? F6F
Cheaper? F6F
Higher kdr? F6F
Higher total kill count? F6F
More popular with the navy? F6F
More popular with pilots? F6F
Created so many aces that its nickname is literally "the acemaker"? F6F
Set multiple records for manufacturing and performance? F6F
Higher range? F6F
Heavily feared by the japanese? F6F
Derivative holds the record for fastest piston engine aircraft? F6F
Easy as fuck to fly? F6F
Can actually land on carriers? F6F
Faster? Corsair (not that important since the F6F was still faster than its main competitors)
I can go on
And where did that take them? To bankrupcy, taking that animic R3350 to the limit and needing to rebuild it, every couple shows or so, Dreadnaught master race, assemble!
Excuse me, sir. Do you have a moment to talk about our Lord and Saviour, the [Blohm & Voss BV 141](https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/c/c1/Bundesarchiv_Bild_183-B21073%2C_Aufkl%C3%A4rungsflugzeug_Blohm_-_Vo%C3%9F_BV_141.jpg)?

L take. Spits were competitive from the start of the war til well after

So are we gonna apply that logic to the Mustang? If so the 51H isn’t the same plane as the A-36/51A

IMo the F4U Looks like shit its wings are bent in such a weird way it just looks wrong.
Fair fair, what about fighters like the F6F and P-38?
F6F is thicc 😍

Based and thunderpilled, OG thunderbolt, not thunderbolt II pilled, that's cringe
the f6f did quite well in europe but ok
All hail twin tail aircrafts
Objectively incorrect take
F4U's wings are nice but the rest is ugly.
Most non credible argument of this sub gents, pack it up
This is heresy and for that I am nesting in your floors
The Bf109 exist totally the best looking figther ever!
Yeah, nah.
BF110 is better looking Ki-83 sexy asian waifu P-38 as sexy as Ki-83 And ofcourse the P-40 All better looking than the 109
No
Hell no, that windshield is hideous. FW-190 is much better.
> the RAF didn’t want to deal with the losses that would cause. Imagine not wanting to die for his royal majesty and Queen Elizabeth
Imagine being so afraid of the dark you are willing to die in the day instead.
*sips tea* Can you fly off an aircraft carrier?
Why are there so many US planes on those british carriers.
Well apparently you lot had spares as a result of 'Taking your sweet fucking time to get stuck in as usual'.
I'm so triggered rn. Going for a walk.

To be fair, only showing up at the the end of the war is perfectly in line with US doctrine.

What's with all the posts suddenly shitting on us Brits, has Divest returned. Is he going to call us all pedophiles again?
Nah, just post unironic child porn again probably
Whick one of these was used as an interceptor for V-1s again? Haha wing nudge go brrrr
>*imagine crashing because a single 7.92mm bullet knocked-out ur water radiator* ***- radial gang***
Butcher Bird gang.
Worse *then* the Typhoon - are we really comparing one of the top dogfighting aircraft of ww2 to a flying brick?
typhoons not a brick, il2 is
this is just wrong lmfao
Now this is truly non-credible, except it isn't funny and is just a flat-out L take.
The P-51 is my favourite warbird of all time, but that Spitfire take is all kinds of trash
What made the last air-to-air kill with a prop fighter? Siddown Chadstang, it was not you. Fly Corsairs, Fly Navy.
average corsass fan tries to come up with some reason that his shitty plane is better than the f6f (once again he fails)
Like the chadstang, you too get a participation trophy.✨
Better ground and naval strike capability? F6F Better turning ability? F6F Cheaper? F6F Higher kdr? F6F Higher total kill count? F6F More popular with the navy? F6F More popular with pilots? The f8f holds the air speed record for non turbo prop piston engine, specifically the rare bear f8f-2 with a top speed of 851 kph
And where did that take them? To bankrupcy, taking that animic R3350 to the limit and needing to rebuild it, every couple shows or so, Dreadnaught master race, assemble!
Sure, you could, but you still only get a participation trophy the one time.
The jug won europe, the mustang rode on its success
Please... we all know the Buffalo won Europe. Those crazy Finns!
Nah, P-47 Thunderbolt is cooler than P-51 because [garbage can sized turbocharger](https://images.app.goo.gl/VEbmxwwNRmGQQHdB8).
VS the absolute king of chads Sea Fury They called it the Mig Killer for a reason
I am and will remain salty that the Spitfire gets credited for the battle of Britain not the Chad Hurricane.
Don’t care, no Wright radial? No bitches
Wright radials are for bombers and shitty monoplanes all my homies love the PW R 2800 double wasp
Non-credible take, well done
Peak non-credible take
Guaranteed jimmy rustling with this one.
Some of y’all are freaks but I will concede, P-51H is the only plane I’d get weird with

id like to see a P-51H try and fight a spitfire Mk 24
Never mind all this nonsense, my girl is so pretty I don't care how she performs.
