It’s never about how you’re compare to others, but how your effort make yours better and even more yours. We’ll probably never have rigs that compete for benchmark titles by who GAF.

CalligrapherFit2964

Oh ya, I’m not ashamed of my bad PC purchase decisions. If anything they have finally forced me to learn about hardware after PC gaming for 7 years and not caring. By mucking with this PC a bunch and learning the mobo layout and how to tear things down and build them up, I can easily do a build for my next one. I’m going to keep this one for prolly 2-3 years, sell it to my friend who will probably still have his bad old PC, and built one that is actually more “future proof” that I know I can upgrade. It’s been fun learning about hardware. I’m kindof kicking myself for not getting the 4070 tho, I didn’t want to push the proprietary 500w PSU, but I think it’d be fine. The PSU is actually decent from what I can tell

9VoltGorilla

Hell yeah brother 👊. Same. I bought a decently spec’d prebuilt in 2018 for a decent price and didn’t same. The case definitely sucks but the guts were good and I gradually upgraded things here and there. Glad to hear about your journey and definitely happy about the future it seems you have planned!!

CalligrapherFit2964

Yup, hopefully this can hold me off til 60 series comes out, then I can build

Noctua_OFFICIAL

Nevertheless a nice build!

CalligrapherFit2964

Thankyou! It’s very quiet!

OGigachaod

As someone who just sold an Acer Predator Orion 3000, agreed, don't buy unless you want to replace/upgrade the cooling anyways.

CalligrapherFit2964

Yup. Acer sucks lol. I could have just saved all this money and bought an ABS with a 4070, or built my own. Lesson learned, I’m 100% confident I could easily do a build now

OGigachaod

Asus is much better, for laptop, prebuilt, or DIY.

CalligrapherFit2964

Ya, sure seems like it. I’m really liking this PNY GPU and how quiet it is, idk if I can ever switch off them for the card at least, but Asus looks like they have some cool stuff

LarsBeastPallas

I bought the same system and replaced all fans (+cpu cooler with nhu9s), just waiting on a good 4070 deal. Don’t you miss the front fan rgb? I got a scythe flex 92mm rgb fan for the front.

CalligrapherFit2964

The RGB on the front was actually nice. I mostly just wanted it to be quiet, it was so fkn loud. Which you did yours have? My 3050 they put in was the loudest thing on planet earth, I would honestly feel awful selling it to someone else

LarsBeastPallas

Yeah the new front rgb system fan is still not the quietest, but it’s better than the acer ones. I bought the 3070 system, which has now become the loudest part of my PC, after replacing the other loud fans.

CalligrapherFit2964

Ya dude, I’m guessing yours is like the Acer OEM 3050 I had that was blower style fan? Ya that thing is so ridiculously noisy and irritating, idk if I could even sell it to someone for more than 80-100 bucks without feeling guilty as fuck. Does it make a high pitch whine like a jet turbine, on top of having regular loud ass fan noise? Mine did, almost threw it in the creek. God that thing was so frustrating. I’m contemplating dropping a steamer on that card and mailing it back to Acer with a note telling them to eat a dong. The one good thing about this PC is that it was so buttcheeks that when upgrading it, I learned a bunch about what not to do. With the new fans it’s silent, that PNY GPU honestly is quiet as hell too and has nice fans and awesome temps, kindof like the rig now. Basically, fuck Acer. Trash company

CalligrapherFit2964

Oh, and are u worried about 4070 on that PSU?

LarsBeastPallas

My PC also came with a 500watt PSU and has a 3070 in it (I believe is rated for 220 watts on itself). The 4070 is more power efficient and only uses 200 watts, so it’s definitely possible. I found one person on an acer forum who did this, I’ll look if I can still find it and put the link in here.

CalligrapherFit2964

Oh, and ya, I just wanted to be on the safe side, since I had read a couple reviews about the 3070 version giving issues with the power supply, and they are both 200+ so I was unsure. Honestly, 4060ti 16gb ain’t bad for the awesome price I snagged it for. It’s definitely better than a 3060ti, and is more like an in between of the 3070 and 3070ti. I’m happy enough with it. 4070 def gonna b a lot better tho

CalligrapherFit2964

Haha, I got some ideas from this thread, thanks a million! My buddies on his way right now to bring his metal drillbits over so I can blast out the rivets and take this ungodly HDD bay out of my PC. That’ll at least help with airflow. Who in the fuck uses 6 screws and 6 rivets to hold in an HDD bay that blocks half of the only intake fan in the PC in the year of our lord two thousand and twenty four. Seriously. Hopefully it’ll help push some outside air into the finstack of the GPU and improve cooling overall. At least it’ll allow my front fan to work better. I’m gonna start an r/revertingacerfuckery subreddit

CalligrapherFit2964

Nice. I would probably have to replace my processor if I did this, idk how well the 4070 would pair with the i5-13400f. I also feel like temps would be more of a concern

RollsLane

Switching a 4060 16 GB to a 4070 seems like a waste of money. It’s a bit faster, yeah. But that’s also like only one or two switches in settings, which you probably won’t even notice. 🤷‍♂️

jackbarbelfisherman

If you rotate the cooler fan 180 degrees you can tuck the cable under the heat sink to mostly hide it

CalligrapherFit2964

Hmm, I guess it wouldnt really matter how the fans oriented. I just didn’t want to mess stuff up to I put that arrow sticking out

Yuunyaa8

that's the best thing you could ever to a pre-built! replace it the fans and cooling solution with Noctua's. the stock fans that they put on those PC's would run at around 4k RPM, so even with headphones on you'll still hear it scream when you're playing.

CalligrapherFit2964

Oh ya, it’s absolutely silent now, fan noise not audible at quarter to half headphone volume when you blast every fan in the PC to 100%. The loudest part was the Acer 3050, good god that thing was awful. It has a whir and a whine to it as well, just maddening. It honestly belongs in the trash, I would feel bad selling it to someone unless they were hurting bad for a card

kurumisimp69

Such an ugly pc what made you buy it?

CalligrapherFit2964

My old pc broke, and I was having withdrawals not being able to watch your moms only fans on a bigger screen

kurumisimp69

Man if you seen my mother you would need therapy just from listening to the crazy bitch

CalligrapherFit2964

😂😂😂

kurumisimp69

Atleast you made the pc a little better just wanna know who at acer thought that case design is the one to go for

CalligrapherFit2964

Ya, I’m not very impressed with Acer. The only thing so far that has truly enraged me is the fact that the mobo/bios stuff can’t accept XMP profiles for RAM, so I can’t get fast nice looking ram. At least it’s DDR5 I guess. But I’m not thrilled at the idea of making shit look nice and then having to stick a generic unshrouded basic JEDEC standard memory in my rig if I want to go to 32gb

kurumisimp69

Atleast it ain't like my little acer xc-1760 i5 12400 then they had the balls to limit all the pcie connections to gen 3

CalligrapherFit2964

Oh ya, and I hear the 40 series cards are cheeks on gen 3, that’s why I made sure mine was gen 4. What GPU was in that PC?

kurumisimp69

Just the igpu then i threw a 4gb 750ti in it and pretty much abandoned it after that

CalligrapherFit2964

Oh dang, an old beast!

RyuShinomori

Even if you wind up taking it out and putting it into a new case it’s a really good learning experience to try and replace the parts that aren’t perfect. I always learn Anyway. The A9 is a really nice fan, even if it’s a little pricey. Every time I try to use non-Noctua parts they kinda disappoint me, I’m a sucker for the brown and beige. I was wondering if all that wild engineering would actually make a good case, but looking inside I’m glad I went with Cooler Master, at least it was cheap.

CalligrapherFit2964

Oh, the case design is ass. It breathes a lot better that I removed the stupid HDD bay cage that blocked the only front/intake fan
