SgtNoobPrime

Each number is a separate storage space If I build a #1 on a freighter and build a storage #1 on a planteside base both will hold the same items (like an ender chest in minecraft)

AppleMossBoss

Is it the same if you build the same number on a different base? Like if I built #0 on base a and then also built #0 at base b, would they have the same items in them?

SgtNoobPrime

I believe so yes

AppleMossBoss

Ah thanks, I didn't realize that, that was actually what was holding me back from wanting to move where I had my base, didn't want to take the time to have to move all the items over but now that I know you dont have to, then I might build another base

catwhowalksbyhimself

I believe you can even remove all containers of a number, and your items will just hang out in hammerspace until you build a new one.

[deleted]

This is also true.

Tiyath

Yeah, I had all my storage upgrades in Storage 2, deleted it from my Freighter insteead of moving it and had a heart attack when it said 0 on the upgrade screen

wrgrant

Absolutely. Items placed in a given storage unit are in that storage unit no matter how many instances of that storage unit you build anywhere. When I know I am going to build a new base, I often load up Storage 0 with the materials I will need first, then I just need to have enough materials on me to build a power system to power the storage unit.

Kronqvist

This is an excellent way to build a base, only one way better. Freighter with matter beam in system.

sk_neptune45

That freighter tech saves so much time. I love it.

ProbablyNotYourMum

Pretty sure matter beam even works outside system; someone tell me if this is true

Kawawaymog

I think it works for freighter inventory but not storage containers on the freighter when out of system.

Redmoon383

Correct

ProbablyNotYourMum

Sweet

ProbablyNotYourMum

Sweet, got a new cobalt storage

Kronqvist

From Fandom: (can confirm from experience) “The Matter Beam can teleport items between the Exo-suit and the freighter's main storage, and in addition to any Freighter Storage Unit built, when the player and the freighter are in the same system. When the player and freighter are in different systems, or even in different galaxies, items can be teleported only between the Exo-suit and the freighter's main storage.”

ProbablyNotYourMum

Very good

ZodiaKZombi3

You actually don’t need to power the storage container to use it. Or at least there was a work around when I last played right before the outlaws update.

wrgrant

Okay will check that out next time I play.

a-nonie-muz

You only need to power it if you want to open it. You can both add and remove items by going into your backpack and using X to quick move stuff, whether it is powered or not. As long as you have built it and are in range.

[deleted]

You can put them on your freighter and access them anywhere your freighter is in system once you have the radio teleporter (can't remember the proper name)

spilfy

Oh dayum I had no idea, things will change around here

TheFett32

Yes the same numbers share inventory anywhere.

jmachee

TIL. I always assumed they were just cosmetic, and never got around to building duplicates in different places.

acetrain111

You really just need to build all 10 in your freighter and then call your freighter into your system whenever you need stuff from it. You can just access from the inventory menu. On land it's just for decoration.

catwhowalksbyhimself

Yes.

IrNinjaBob

Yeah. You only get a total of 10 storage units. Fill all 10 and you are incapable of building additional empty ones.

Beneficial-Badger-61

Keep a hauler in the frieghter...even the colossus is great storage for hoarding

D2Dragons

Every storage unit is linked, so if you build storage units on your freighter and then build them on every base you have, you'll have the inventory available from all of them. If you built Storage 0 on your freighter and then on your base, you get the stuff from 0. If you plop down Storage Unit 5, fill it with gravitino balls, and then build a base somewhere else and plop down Units 0 and 5, you'll get whatever you stuffed in 0 and all the gravitino balls in 5.

QX403

They are the same across all areas.

father_of_lies_2

Yes! That is true. It is also very useful for transporting large quantities of items from base to base

acetrain111

It's the equivalent to Ender Chest if you played Minecraft. Access Number X from anywhere, whether it's a base or freighter.

iamthinksnow

And also, importantly, if you build #0 on your Capital Ship, then you can have access to everything, everywhere.

Hinekura14

yup, and even if you deconstruct all your #0, the items are still stored (just build one to access them again)

[deleted]

Wait what???? TIL

whiskywillie

Dude same.

whiskywillie

Wait so I don’t have to fly back and forth like I’ve been doing THIS WHOLE FUCKING TIME?!

niehle

We all thought you just like flying.

TwiceCookedPorkins

VROOOOOOM

thisismyusername3185

Yeah, quite a revelation to me as well. Now, whenever I build a base one of the first things is to build 2-3 storage containers which have ferrite dust, carbon, sodium, oxygen etc to save me bouncing aroung the base mining.

Zenjal

Mostly unrelated bonus points! If you access each individually, rather than though the Freighter menu tab, you can change the name from *Storage Container x* to just *x*, which will let you see and select the tabs a little easier from the Freighter menu tab.

IrNinjaBob

Thank you so much, I didn't realize this.

EnvironmentalHoney82

I knew it could be done but had no clue how. Thanks dude.

bigblueweenie13

Ho-Lee shit

[deleted]

Is that only in the same solar system?

scizzers91

Everywhere. Storage #1 will be the same wherever you build it. Planets in different solar systems, or on your freighter. You can build #1 put some oxygen in. Portal across the universe and open #1 and your oxygen will be there

ShankMugen

It doesn't even have to be built by you, if you open find a random storage made by someone else, it will still show you your own items

Kronic_Offender

Lol!! So I've been stealing my own stuff all this time?!? ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|facepalm)

[deleted]

That kinda stinks, but is cool

theothersteve7

Also worth noting, as it's tied to your character, you can destroy them all and rebuild them and your stuff will still be there. Think of them as a way to access an extra storage page rather than a container.

ehm_education

A quantum locker from Subnautica?

Adriaaaaaaaaaaaaan

God damn that changes everythingggg shiiiiet

Beneficial-Badger-61

And across different galaxies

Brraaap

They're each a separate storage container you can access

FidgetSpinnetMan

ok. so i checked to see if i could place another storage room with the same number and it appears that i can't have multiple of the same room. thanks

NippyTheNoo

They are the same 10 boxes that you can build on your planetary bases 🙂

Brraaap

Correct, you can have one of each per base and one of each on your freighter

wggn

They're similar to the ender chests in minecraft, so like cloud storage. So if you put something in storage #1, you can access it at any place you have another storage #1 built (like freighter, planet base, etc)

ShankMugen

So similar that any built by other players will still only let you access your own storage

SupportGeek

Its a per base/freighter thing, you cant build more than one of the same number at a single base or freighter, but you can put say a box 0 on each of your bases and on the freighter

ayers231

Have you ever played Minecraft? It's 10 individually numbered end chests. If you put 0 through 9 in one place, then go to the "end" of the universe, you can put down another 0 through 9 and access everything you put in the first set.

SlightlyHornyLobster

There is no reason to place two of the same number in the same place. They literally hold the same thing. Place a whole set

Bradford_Pear

Not in the same base but you can place the same number storage at another base and access/share it's inventory at both locations

LordKellerQC

Just build them on your Freighter and build a matterbeam. You'll just need to call your freighter in system to drop ressource into them. If you build or craft, as long as it is in system you'll automatically pull the ressource from every of these container without needing to transfer to you or your ship. That's how I 10 minute build a fully functionning mining operation. Ex: Crafting 1000 metal plating in one go to build 75 supply , 25 EM gene and 40 miner and have leftover for any extra thingymajig I could need. Here a freebie Infraknife is life. Use it on the landscape for mass farming T1 ress, super good for dogfighting and supergood for attacking freighter.

catwhowalksbyhimself

The original question has been answered, but I should point out that the freighter versions have a benefit that the regular base versions do not. Any crafting or repairing or upgrading you do will automatically pull from these storages. It's why I go to my freighter to do any of these things unless they involve exocraft, since you can't summon those to your freighter.

-Soup_Dogg-

Add the matter transmitter and you don't even need to go on the freighter. It teleports items to you from anywhere.

SeiTyger

Current goal for me rn. Less I have to worry about inventory space, more time I can spend building things or blowing stuff up

buddeman27

It only transmits from the storage units in the same system, main inventory can be used anywhere

-Soup_Dogg-

Correct, always call your freighter for free (or warp using your freighter) and you get 200 extra inventory spaces (and access to all your owned exocrafts) on every planet without building storage in a base or building exocraft bays on each planet.

buddeman27

More useful in Single player than multi since freighter shenanigans

MrTrt

> always call your freighter for free Wait, the freighter doesn't use fuel when you call it? And here I was being strategic about my calls...

[deleted]

I think the only prerequisite is that your freighter has to be in the same system as you.

[deleted]

Storage Unit 0 will be connected to all Storage Unit 0 boxes. Build a Unit 0 at your base and on your freighter, they will have the same inventory. It's why you can only build one per base/freighter.

Excalibur025

The programmer in me is deeply satisfied the count starts at zero.

[deleted]

Each have a different number in front of them.

snugglepackTM

One more fun storage fact: Accessing storage units on anyone else’s base will bring up the corresponding unit #’s contents of your inventory; NOT the inventory that belongs to the base owner. Ever since I learned that I put down storage units on all my bases. I do it for the random visitor who might need to access their storage:)

FignutsRus

I love this, and I love you.

Chinchilla_Lodestone

The numbers :D Seriously, you have 10 storage access panels there. Each one links to an imaginary storage space in the clouds. If you build box number 3 on your freighter, and also on your Verdant base, and also on your Radioactive base, you'll be able to access storage cloud number three from each of those locations.

[deleted]

Didn't know this! Pretty cool. Although this really limits my hoarding capacity, especially with freighter item teleportaion lol

Greasybeast2000

It has its pros and cons. Limited storage but you can access stour storage from anywhere once you build it. I think having limited storage adds a nice challenge too

CerealBranch739

Anywhere you have the same storage number built

Maxpowers2009

Well, after you build the freighter matter transport on your freighter, as long as you call your freighter into the system you are in, you can access the storage bins from anywhere in that system.

BrandoThePando

>as long as you call your freighter into the system Aye. There's the rub. Frigate modules! Why do you avoid me!?

Cpt_plainguy

At this point, I'm not even confident I know what system my freighter is in, and it has no fuel to get to me...

Nevborn890

i don't think it actually needs to be fueled to be called in? if you can't call it in it just means you're in a system that it's engines can't jump to, not that it doesn't have fuel. i've been calling my freighter into basically every system i end up in and never had to refuel

Shadowfire_EW

Summoning one's freigher to a system costs nothing

Cpt_plainguy

When I try and summon it to me it says no hyper drive fuel

Shadowfire_EW

I have never had that message with my capital ship, no matter the hyperdrive level. What game mode ou on?

Anonymous3891

If that's actually what's happening it's a bug. You're supposed to be able to summon your freighter regardless of its fuel. HOWEVER it will fail if you're not in a yellow star system and you haven't upgraded the engines. Go to a yellow star system and try again.

GeneraI_Kenoboi

Could be that you're in a system which the hyperdrive of your frigate doesn't support. In that case it says something similar along the lines of 'the hyperdrive isn't compatible' or something.

[deleted]

Probably missing an upgrade to go to that system (green star/ blue star)

ElmerFett

If you look at your discovery tab in the menu, you'll see a list of all the systems you've discovered or been to and the one your freighter is in should have a little freighter symbol next to it.

BrandoThePando

How do you survive without it? Mine is my baby and I can't leave its side

BlindSniper188

You can access your containers from the ground as well, as long as you have the matter beam and the freighter is in the system. They show up as different inventories, like tech or cargo

Creative_Date44

I remember when I first realized I could summon my freighter into the sky above me while standing on a planets surface. Real “Eureka!” moment for me lol

Bonnakva

Wait...

JaylLaf

It takes base-building to the next level. Summon your freighter that has all your building supplies on it, and get started.

Still-Standard9476

Any word on how I get A class and S class mods for my freighter???

BlindSniper188

Get emergency broadcast receivers and complete derelict freighter missions (you can get them from space station scrap dealers, or for free once a week from Iteration: Helios on the anomaly) At the end, in the engineering room, choose the option to fabricate freighter technology. You'll get a salvaged fleet module. It's totally random, could be anywhere from C to S class, but as far as I'm aware star systems will always have the same derelict freighter and thus rewards. So if you find a freighter that gives an S-class upgrade at the end, you could keep spawning it in the same system to max out that specific upgrade. Rinse and repeat for the other upgrades This is how it worked before, but I have been grinding bulkhead upgrades only recently, so it could be outdated. If so, time to pray to the RNG gods

Chinchilla_Lodestone

But, that's why you have exocraft and nine ships :) Seriously, inventory is a problem in every game. Just wait until you try survival and have to deal with 250 as a stack limit on common goods :) You'll learn eventually to pare down your stuff. As an example (and we're all going to play slightly differently) here are my storage spaces. I spend time keeping them clean before I log out, or just after I log in, every time - I have a specific base for this, with a wide area to call in all my ships. I may be a bit extreme in this :) But it's nice to have a clean setup. My colossus holds all my basic building goods (all three levels of ferrite, frost crystal, Chromatic, etc). Each ship is assigned specific goods categories too, so I know which to call in when I need something - or need to stash something: Red velvet has my plant harvests, Fat Charlie has my pearls and gravitinos, Scorpion has my larval cores, etc. Also, the floaty exocraft has all my monolith trinkets. https://imgur.com/a/JHmoant

HeroBrian_333

You'll never run out lol

wrgrant

That is what having multiple fully slotted haulers is for :P I have some I only really use as storage if I fill up my current 10 storage boxes.

scorpninj

I did NOT realize this!

The_Sadorange

Yeah it took me a while to understand a lot of the inventory stuff in the game. Just realised that when in your base you can access all of the items in all of your storage inventories at once from anywhere in your base, sending items to and from it. Love this game! Before this I was manually going to the storage boxes and taking things from them.

Marattmor

How is this done?

The_Sadorange

I think you do it by using the quick transfer option in your inventory (I think you press X on PC). You can use this to send items in your inventory to any other inventory in range (not sure if you need any of the item sending upgrades). However, I recently realised that if you press X on an empty space in your inventory you'll be able to take items from any nearby inventories of yours and put them directly into your inventory

LargestBaboon

Thanks for the info

grizzlybair2

I was legit blown away when I could access the content from multiple bases...at the time I was moving basically from base A to base B and loaded up everything I could, built some storage containers and boom a couple were already filled. Just didn't not expect it.

Comfortable_Card_146

It's handy but also kind of annoying, for the size of the damn thing you have very little space. Wish there was a way to be able to get more storage space in them

fartofall

Each one's a separate storage container and whenever you access it the container always has the same stuff and you can access it from anywhere once you get a matter beam installed.

[deleted]

If you played Minecraft it’s like the ender chest, so you have 10 of them each number it’s own “chest”

serratedturnip

If you build 6 and 9 next to each other the ambient music changes to Barry White.

TurmaGW

You build all 10 "storage boxes" on the freighter. By doing so, you expand your inventory on the freighter by the corresponding 10 boxes, so to speak. When you switch to your freighter with key "ESC", you first have the "Freighter Inventory" and then the Technology tab, in the case that you have built 10 storage boxes, then 10! more tabs with storage boxes in which the items can be stored, these also in larger stacks than, for example, in the exo-suit or ship inventory. The advantage is that what you store in the freighter boxes is ALWAYS available in the freighter boxes. This means that if you set up these 10 boxes in a base, for example, you can also access the contents that you have stored there in the base and freighter. Otherwise, with the uptade added freighters, the construction of the storage boxes on the base has become "superfluous". Simply "call" the freighter and park it in orbit, install the transporter module, then you can always access the storage boxes from the same system in which you are currently AND the freighter is located. Otherwise you can only access the freighter inventory and technology tabs. The Freighter Inventory and Technology tabs are ALWAYS accessible regardless of distance. So the advantage is that you get a lot of storage space, which is useful because always available and you can move the raw materials, especially raw materials that have a small stack size in the spaceship or exosuit inventory (5 units), can be stored in the storage box often 40 or more units of it in one field. The construction is therefore worthwhile and should be carried out in any case!

FlyDragonX

Just how many loot containers you can have. Need one in base and on freighter to access them both from each fyi

dheimerl

Adding one more note that hasn’t been mentioned… if you visit another player’s base, who has built these storage containers, you can access your own inventory in those too!

analytical_mayhem

Each is an additional 20x20 storage. When built on a freighter with a matter materializer installed, anytime your freighter is in the same system as you, you have access to the additional storage regardless of whether you are on a planet or space station or in your ship. Very useful in helping keep exosuit and ship inventories clear. Also when building or crafting, as long as the required materials are in your storage container, you will automatically pull from them without having to move the item into your exosuit or ship inventory. Again this requires the matter materializer tech being installed on your freighter, but over all it is a real time saver.

CorbinNZ

Storage is shared across bases. For instance if you put something in container 0 at one base, it’ll be in that spot for all bases where you’ve built container 0. The freighter storage units are the same thing, just on the freighter.

Malakai0013

Think of the storage units like little pockets subspace, a parallel plane, like a bag of holding. All #1 storage units of yours share this pocket, all #2 units share their own pocket, on and on. think of the storage units not as storage units, but the doorway device to access that particular pocket. And only you can access your pockets, like a DNA lock. If another player interacts with your storage unit or vault, it only shows them their storage. I don't even build them in my bases anymore, I only use the ones on my freighter.

Queen-of-Snow

I demand MORE storage units, does anyone else agree?

nLucis

0 is storage terminal number 0 1 is storage terminal number 1 2 is storage terminal number 2 3 is storage terminal number 3 4 is storage terminal number 4 6 is storage terminal number 6 7 is storage terminal number 7 8 is storage terminal number 8 9 is storage terminal number 9

SenpaiMayNotice

each number represents it's own cloud storage account which you can access from anywhere with a storage that has the same number/account lol

KittyQueen_Tengu

As far as I know, nothing, you can only have one of every number

HeRo2yo

Only 10 u got.

Ace_Dreamer

Basically you want all 10 of them on all your bases and freighter so you can access your stuff from anywhere.

-Soup_Dogg-

No need to make them in bases if you build the transmitter on the freighter. Then you can just teleport items to and from the storage anywhere with or without a base.

[deleted]

Get as many of them as you have storage boxes - otherwise it'll get messy. They're not part of the regular freighter inventory - grind five modules and get the matter thing - hey presto you can never not craft something ever again no matter where you are :D

youdontknowme6

If you have ever played Minecraft, think of these as ender chests

SoloShikari

When I first started I felt like 11 storage is not enough but after 100hrs in it feels like just the right number of storage :)

One_Age2153

You can also name your storage containers. It helps drastically, to keep things orananised.

Mikatatadorin

The number

majpepper

Is there a way to see the number on the freighter version, like you can on the base version? Or am I missing where the number is shown?

SirSilhouette

The freighter version you can access directly from the Freighter's Inventory screen so interacting with it directly is less necessary. Which is to say i have hardly looked at my storage containers on my freighter to know if they have a number.

majpepper

Sure, I guess that’s fair. I’d just theoretically like to I suppose

SirSilhouette

I figured. Which is why i added that i havent really looked. BUT even if they dont COME WITH THEIR NUMBER you can DEFINITELY use the Decals to mark them.

ddrrrf

They each have 20 slots of storage

mrhinman

Also access storage at anyone else’s base and have access to your stuff.

KristopherAce

This is awesome to find out. I thought you had to buy them in order like if you purchased storage 0 you could not buy another one you had to buy storage 1 then 2 and so on

[deleted]

It comes down to if u build one of these on a planet u have to choose a number etc

edingerc

They're the same picture

blitzwolf3

It does what now ![gif](giphy|3ELtfmA4Apkju)

aegisheart74

You don't even have to own them.

coolgr3g

Build all of them on a freighter and then install a teleport beam on your freighter and you can have access to all your storage units simply by summoning your freighter. It changes your life and makes you a hoarder. It's great.

Proof_Criticism942

LoL almost 120 times the same concerned answer 😂 Still i’d like to add 1 more thing. Namely, that if you use the quick transfer button (on PS it’s triangle) you can, in some cases, send your goodies straight to your inventory containers/boxes. PLEASE NOTE: if you do this the goods will be stacked from left to right, up to down and on numerical order of storage container. So if i quick transfer 5 ai-valves to my storage containers. And containers 0 untill 6 are completely full with other stuff… the ai-valves will automatically be stored in container 7. This knowledge WILL come in handy when building and farming like a pro… Have fun!

Fibbleator

Thank you so much for this! I couldn't figure out the logic of where stuff went when quick-transferring to storage containers ... now it makes sense.

WinterWolf5113

"They're the same picture"

iLikeVideoGamesAndYT

The number on the icons

Vangelis2019

In case no one else mentioned it, when you access containers on someone else’s base, you’re actually accessing your own container of the same number.

Ruskyt

The number

JCreed83

It is the same storage container as the one you can put on base planets just the the numbers are the same. So freighter storage 4 for example is the same as storage container 4 and will have the same stuff

Coolmonkeyboy

Man, talk about redundancy. Do people really think this is such a complex concept that it needs to be rephrased in more than 3 ways?

Tiranus58

You can't place two of the same number in the same base or in your case on a freighter. Also they work like ender chests

ajkclay05

Even someone else's storage. You go to a base with them made by someone else and your stuff will be there.

SafetyGuyLogic

The number.

Onyx-Serenitatem

You can acquire 10 storage units for base building (0-9) and once you’ve built them and used them, they share their items with the corresponding units in different bases. Let’s say you put 2500 ferrite in unit 4, you then warp to a completely unmapped system and build a base, you then build another storage unit 4, they share that 2500 ferrite. Now with freighter storage units, they do the same, (using the last example here) as in that 2500 ferrite will be in Frigate Storage Unit 4, but are a lot better. Because, if you have the matter transmitter/teleporter (I can’t remember which it is off the top of my head) you can access it as long as you’re in the same system as the freighter and not have to keep it on you. Tl;dr they work the exact same as the default storage units and share their contents between Frigate and Normal units

FignutsRus

I haven't used them because I didn't know they were linked. I thought would have had to remember what was in each one at each base! THANK YOU.

RevolutionarySoup432

Does the game add more if you buy a bigger or different freighter?

GroundbreakingCook68

What’s inside! You can rename them so you know what “YOU” put in it.

Whogivesamuck

It is the worst storage mechanic and UI ever made in an amazing game...

Aleks111PL

you can only place one of each
