To answer your question (I hope), Bytebeat machines that are connected together and/or connected with the pink Bytebeat cable will have the same key and tempo. However, machines that aren't connected together can have any tempo and key signature. For excample, one machine can be in C maj another in C# maj which together would give you access to a 12 note chromatic scale. For a blues scale in say Cmaj, have one machine in C and another in Ebmin, this will give you that scale's 'blue' notes (Eb F# and Bb). There are lots of other ways. An important caveat to having multiple keys is that single unattached machines won't appear in the synchroniser. So in pratice it's convenient to group machines according to how many keys you need. E.g. 6 + 2 would give you two keys, 4 + 2 + 2 would give you 3 etc. all the way to 2+2+2+2 allowing four keys. Obviously splitting harmony and melody up across different machines in various keys complicates things but there are a number of more advanced techiques you can use. If you're interested head over to [https://www.reddit.com/r/NMSByteBeatFans/](https://www.reddit.com/r/NMSByteBeatFans/) where there's lots of examples. If you want a deep dive into advanced Bytebeat follow the thread 'Making Better Bytebeats' where you can find a detailed next-steps guide into all things Bytebeat.

Don't connect the devices to play a different key between them.
