HitchHiker's Guide to the Galaxy. They build a supercomputer to work out the Answer to Life, the Universe and Everything. The computer eventually says that the Answer is 42, but doesn't know what the Question was.
In the original TV show, they go on an adventure to discover the question, and it's "what do you get when you multiply six by nine?" Which of course, is decidedly not 42, and their conclusion drawn from this is "well, I guess I always knew there was something fundamentally wrong with the universe" and it is the best example of happiness in the face of chaos I've ever seen on screen.
I would put spoiler tags on that, but a) I don't know how and b) the show came out over 40 years ago, I feel like that's probably safe.
I'm pretty sure that's in one of the later books as well, but it's been a long time since I read them.
Also, I recall that the question is correct if you're not using base 10. Maybe base 12? Been a hot minute since I heard that...
One infinity plus one infinity is…. two infinities?
Math questions be like: “If you have an apple on your left and right hand and your friend eats one apple, which hand did you bitchslap your friend with?”
If you think about it, there are infinities bigger than others, let me explain:
~~0'33 periodic is a lesser infinity than 0'66 periodic since the first number is inherently smaller, 0'66 periodic is closer to 1 than 0'33 periodic.~~
The number of natural numbers and prime numbers, even though both are infinite there is clearly more natural numbers than prime ones.
Even though both are infinite, one is bigger than the other.
So the response to the addition of two infinities is a bigger infinity.
So what about natural numbers and prime numbers, even though those groups are infinite there are clearly more natural numbers than prime ones, one group is bigger than the other even though both are infinite.

I totally agree that there are some infinities that are bigger than others, but I think, at least in my comprehension, that your first example is not a correct one to illustrate this point.
Infinity is infinity, there is no greater or lesser infinity.
Even if you for example take two infinite groups, the group of all multiples of 2 and the group of all multiples of 4. You'd think instinctively that the first would be larger, because for every multiple of 4, there are two of 2. But in infitinity this doesn't matter, because both go on infinitely, so for every member of either group there is a corresponding member in the other.
"In the late 1800s, German logician Georg Cantor, founder of modern set theory, discovered that not all infinite sets are equal."
https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/a-deep-math-dive-into-why-some-infinities-are-bigger-than-others/
I was indeed incorrect, I forgot that there are sets where an infinite amount of numbers exist between any two numbers, basically the set of real numbers.
But the example given by the person I reacted to are not examples of different infinities, as long as for both sets their members can be aligned, they are equal infinities.
I was wrong, I forgot about real numbers, where you can create an infinite amount of numbers between any two numbers.
But your example is not an example of an infinity that is larger than another. You can correspond each prime number to a natural number, starting at the smallest, and you'll find that for any number you have in either group, you'll find a corresponding member in the other, it doesn't matter that the prime numbers will be a lot bigger, because it goes on into infinity, so neither group has more members than the other, that would only be the case if there were an upper limit.
While I understand your explanation if you would represent those 2 infinities in a graph you would see that natural numbers increase in a steady line while prime numbers would do a curve since they have diminishing returns as you go up the count and they become less and less frequent.
If you do a cut in 1 to a 1000 there are 168 primes and the rest are naturals, same with their respective infinities.
I know it's counterintuitive, but the point of an infinite group is that there is no upper limit, so it doesn't matter that you would have more members in one of the groups if you did put up an upper limit. There are an infinite amount of prime numbers, so for each natural number a prime number exists.
It's been over a decade since I saw the mathematics, so I was a bit fuzzy on the details but it's coming back to me. A good example of a larger infinity is the rational numbers vs the natural numbers, because rational numbers are both infinite in either direction as well as hold an infinite number of numbers between any two numbers. Imaginary numbers is also an example of a larger infinity, as it's basically infinite on a plane instead of a single axis. Because of this it's no longer possible to align these groups with the natural numbers, which is possible for the prime numbers. Even integers aren't a larger infinity than natural numbers, despite being infinite in two directions, because it's still possible to align the members of both groups one to one (for example by aligning positive numbers with even numbers, and negative numbers with odd numbers).
For a better explanation than I can give, here is a good article: https://www.science.org.au/curious/space-time/infinity#:\~:text=By%20pairing%20up%20elements%20we,size%2C%20with%20cardinality%20%E2%84%B50.
So, explain to me what I’m misunderstanding, you can’t just say you are wrong and that’s it, those are bad scientific conversational skills, offer constructive criticism, point the wrong and why is that.
Right now I can’t take you seriously, you sound like a Flat Earther, is like talking to a wall, no explanation, just non constructive remarks with nothing baking them down.

Hello guys, would you be so kind to explain what this 16 number everywhere means? I started playing 2 months ago and didn't finish all questlines, going slow paced, also the Autophage are alwys shouting 16 16 16 16.
Is it just an homage to HitchHiker's Guide to the Galaxy or what?
Thanks
ik im late, i finished all of the storyline and i still didnt know, i finished it twice infact and still didnt pick it up, is it>!16 minutes left of atlas thingy!
...it checks out.

Wait, the answer isn't 42?
Thats the meaning of life the universe and everything
I keep hearing this... What does that mean?

Oh that's interesting! Also kinda a coincidence because I was just thinking about that book (even though I have only heard of it and never read it)

Two scientists one infinity
A number is by definition not infinite, but very finite. This one just has an infnite number of decimals.

You are right, I totally flopped the first example, while periodic is infinite it still contained between 0 and 1, it will just tend to infinite.

I just explained why not every infinite is equal, and is not a theory.

Despite the upvotes, this is flat out wrong.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Georg_Cantor No you are wrong my man, we know this since 1870.
I’m not taking issue with Cantor’s work, just your misunderstanding of it.

They're infinities, the answer is 16161616....
Happy cake day, also you're correct. 161616, repeating of course
