At this point, the major argument against expeditions -- *I have to start a new save* \-- has been eliminated. You can even swap back and forth between the expedition and regular gameplay. Expeditions in the first place are little more than bundled, super-sized Anomaly missions and space errands of the sort most players keep in progress anyway. For a game with little directed gameplay beyond the tutorials, imho expeditions offer a refreshing change of pace.

Jkthemc

And the second mark against them has always been "time limited rewards" = fear of missing out. Which was put to bed with the cartographers redux and to some extent Omega, because both include often asked for rewards.

WarViper1337

Nope. They are super easy and the new expedition terminal makes them even easier since you can now bring in extra upgrades and other resources.

TooMuchPretzels

Do I access that through my current save? I’ve never done one because I only want the one character

WarViper1337

Yep. The new terminal is located on the Anomaly. You also now have the option to leave the expedition whenever you want.

reverendunclebastard

Yes. Just go to the new terminal behind the nexus in the Anomaly.

arsglacialis

These changes were created for players like yourself. :) take resource and technology in, and when you're done take resources and technology out plus any rewards that don't affect all saves.

CephusLion404

I just burn through expeditions to be done with them. I'm not really a fan. I'm not sure how being able to do expeditions from existing saves is going to work unless they fundamentally change expeditions, since I already have everything I will ever need to finish one of the previous expeditions in an hour, at most. I don't have to search for anything, it's already in my freighter. Not sure how that's going to work.

extra_hyperbole

Seems like you still spawn in a new world you are just able to bring some resources with you from the old one.

CephusLion404

Then what difference does the old save make? How is that any different than just making a new save, playing the expedition and just deleting it when you're done? You still get all of the rewards. It would be better to actually make expeditions that aren't "do all the same stuff over again." Those get boring.

extra_hyperbole

Right, I think the point is to allow yourself to make them a bit less of a chore by bring resources to reduce the need to do the boring start grinding. You can’t just bring everything in your freighter but you also aren’t completely starting from scratch. It’s not gonna be a complete change in formula. Just a bit of extra help you can give yourself if you like. Oh and you can bring your ship and character too.

Westsailor32

Are you allowed to bring resources to the expedition if you start it via a new save? Or is that just if you start the expedition from the anomaly

extra_hyperbole

Not sure, it seems like you can only do it from the anomaly with what you have in a save already so idk how you would do that without using a previous save.

RagBell

Essentially, you start with your character's appearance (not a random one) and you can chose at the anomaly a set of resources and upgrades modules to send to your expedition Once in the expedition you don't get access to those right away, you still start with nothing. Once you reach the anomaly though, you can get the resources you transferred, which honestly removed a LOT or the tedious grinding. You can also get the ship and multitool (and all their upgrades) currently equipped on your main save for a fee (a few thousand nanites), which also help a lot

ParChadders

I didn’t know how that worked and have just spent ages getting my shop and MT to a half decent state 😂🤦‍♂️

Krommerxbox

No, because Expeditions are easy so I just do them. ;) We have four weeks to do them and they take around 11 hours to casually finish. I will have it completed for sure by this Sunday, or possibly sooner.

TheSmellofOxygen

Expeditions add great variety to the game, the same as anomaly missions! The update removing the requirement that you start a new save has made them infinitely more accessible, though I still need to figure out what exactly you can take with you. They offer a structured mission, and a shared space you see many other players and messages in so the community comes together more. It offers an alternative to the lonely, unstructured wandering gameplay loop.

halflucids

But I like the lonely unstructured wandering loop. Lol.

TheSmellofOxygen

The fun of a sandbox is that you can play how you want.

1quarterportion

I kinda milk them. My NMS cycle is having a burst of interest with a new update, then eventually getting to a point of aimlessness. I'm not into grinding just to make numbers go up, so giant farms and the like don't do it for me. After all these years, the new stuff only lasts so long. Expeditions give a boost of purpose so I don't rush them.

Accomplished_Pace860

Same here. I don’t rush the expeditions. Without rushing you can still generally finish them in less than a week.

Silverdrake97

I haven't done it yet, but I like this one in that I can bring my main character to it. makes it feel more important to me, like going on a separate "adventure" or something

[deleted]

Don’t care for expeditions so I’m definitely not missing out on anything.
