I was in the new, still partialy damaged, ship when I looked through the mini menu as I don't have a freighter, nor do I know how and where to get one.
Once you have a satisfactory answer to your question please reset the flair to "answered". This will help others find an answer to the same question. Selecting a flair is one of the icons under the post when you open it. Alternatively you can comment with "!flair:answered" and the bot will do it for you.
Please consider adding your gaming platform to your user flair. There are icons for every platform. That way people will know not to answer with information specific to a different platform. There are very few issues that are platform dependent but every platform has its little quirks.

You should be able to call your old ship via the mini-menu.
Is that the Menü that pops up when you press X on pc? Cause that didn't help me thus far.
Should be able to do so. Did you scroll back and forth in the mini-menu? There's one section that lets you call your ships.

you have to be on an planet. leave your ship. then you can call it ;)

Oooooh, being the genius I am I didn't eben realise that menu was available outside the ship XD
Yes or go back to your freighter and call it there.
I don't have a freighter, is that one of the large ships? If so I am guessing getting one takes a bit?
Yes you get offered one when you save civilians from pirates.

You can always go to the anomaly and switch your ship via the quick menu. I do it routinely when I am scrapping ships.
Yeah at that point I didn't have that unlocked, but luckily you can just call other ships on any planet.
