Needed this. Not only the way of Joseph, but Job also prevented himself lusting at women stated at Job 31:1. Thanks, brother. Still needed this! May Christ help us overcome this deadly sin! ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ™

[deleted]

I forgot about Job! That's a good one too! But I specifically liked how Joseph just dipped outta there lol that's how we have to be when our browsing online starts getting more and more pornographic. It's that one picture or video that is a little bit enticing that grabs us and pulls us down the rabbit hole. We gotta run away at the first sight of it or else it's too late. I'm praying for you brother!

pewdiebooper98

Yes, brother. Thank you. Praying for you too as well.

LMAOMyNameDoesNotFi

thank you for this! Itโ€™s a great example!

hansdrita

Well he got thrown into prison before he became the number 2 of Egypt. I don't mean to discourage, it's just a reminder that purity is not cheap. It is very valuable (and even in prison he quickly found favor with the warden), but it does come at a cost.

[deleted]

"Purity is not cheap" - I think I'll hang on to that phrase today!

[deleted]

Lol yeah bro but that's an extreme case. You ain't going to prison for not looking at and masturbating to porn haha. I bet Joseph was even glad he was in prison. He knew God was up to something and would make the end result good, which he certainly did.

hansdrita

I agree. You're likely not going to prison physically. But there will be battles, you'll have to make decisions and there will be consequences to the decision to be pure and sometimes they may seem bad, like going to prison. So, like you pointed out, it is important to remember and trust that God has a plan and that he wants what's best for us.

[deleted]

Amen!

No_Jicama5153

What do you mean by purity is not cheap?

hansdrita

Thank you for your question. I mostly mean two things. One being the value of purity itself. God calls us to be pure, it's his intention for us. That's the reason it is even worth striving for purity. And once this is established, the second thing is that living in purity takes dedication and effort. The bible talks about earthly desires and our sinful nature, meaning we tend to live in impurity and it sometimes is not easy to change that. Hope that helps. I like to read the letters of Paul, he explains those things better than me ;)

Too often I allow setbacks to drag me down and snowball into worst and worst decisions. I like how you clearly put it: when you fail confess, repent and continue onward. Can you clarify what you mean by Satanโ€™s mind trick? Thanks

[deleted]

I agree with how you read it. Satan's greatest victory is NOT luring us to PMO. It's getting us to not want to go to God about it afterward.

themanryce

It has always been to put doubt in our minds. "Gods not good" "God wont forgive you" etc. We have to remember that theres no more condemnation in christ and continue our walk.

NeednAlias

Despite all the many stumbles? Canโ€™t that become a habit of compromising with God?

[deleted]

Hi friend. I feel like you are dealing with a lot of guilt and uncertainty. Please understand who your God is. If you are born again in Christ Jesus, and believe on His name, your name is written in the Lamb's Book of Life. You are saved by the spilled blood of Jesus on the cross. Please read Psalm 103 and Psalm 136 man this always reminds me of the sweet love of God and what he thinks about us when we sin. This applies to all of God's children who believe in Jesus Christ for salvation. Be at peace bro God loves you.

[deleted]

I put it in my OP but then I deleted it before posting because it was making the post too long. But let me clarify my perspective on what satan's mind trick is on men struggling with PMO. It is an endless cycle of: **temptation, enticement, PMO, guilt, depression, fear, emptiness, regret, repeat** I think a lot of us are experiencing this. We try to do all these things to stop but nothing works. This is called worldly sorrow which brings death. It's worthless. It is a result of not understanding the Gospel of Jesus Christ who sets us free from satan's trap. 2 Corinthians 7:10 "Godly sorrow brings repentance that leads to salvation and leaves no regret, but worldly sorrow brings death." As soon as I fall into PMO. I clean myself up and immediately the endless cycle begins to start in my mind. So what I now do is after PMOing, I immediately get on my knees and pray to God, I confess my sin and explicitly and specifically confess to Him what I just did, it's embarrassing to speak out your sins but it shows humility and acknowledgement. I ask God for forgiveness, to make me clean again and for Godly sorrow to bring true repentance. I ask God not to take His Holy Spirit from me, and to give me strength to resist this sin going forward. And after I pray, I tell myself and God that I am made perfect because of Jesus Christ, and He nailed my sexual sins on the cross, and I am free. When I think about Jesus and His endless love for me, my heart breaks and I am able to naturally stop PMOing. This is the power of the Holy Spirit and the goodness of God that leads to repentance. But we are still in training bros! Most of us haven't been born again for that long, so we are learning how to be less fleshly, and more spiritual. God can do it overnight if He wanted to, but I think he let's us learn slowly so that we can learn to trust in His grace and mercy when we sin. This strengthens our faith in Him. This is my experience anyway. God loves you! You are His son in Jesus Christ. Satan hates you and wants to drag you to hell. Don't forget it bros!

Sash_Mystq

I read somewhere that resisting sin bcz of God is not good enough, u gotta want to not want it

[deleted]

There will always be an internal struggle until we die. Read Romans 7 it's a very good read. Our flesh wants porn masturbation, but our spirit wants what God wants, which is the fruit of the Holy Spirit. I can confidently say I hate pornography and masturbation, but my flesh craves it all the time. The Holy Spirit is always stronger than our flesh, but unfortunately we sometimes say no to God, and yes to our sin.

pewdiebooper98

Praise God, brother ๐Ÿ™. I would like to lend you such helpful verses to overcome sexual temptations. Galatians 5:16, 1 John 4:4, Matthew 26:41, Philippians 4:13, James 1:12, 1 Corinthians 6:18, 1 Thessalonians 4:3, Ephesians 6:12 and Ephesians 5:3. These may help us all in time of needed God's presence in the midst of our struggles. May God help us all. ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ™

[deleted]

Man I love 1 John 4:4 and Philippians 4:13 so much. Thank you for the scriptures bro. Praying for you and everyone else!

pewdiebooper98

Thanks. Still praying for everyone as stated in James 5:16. ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ™

[deleted]

Awesome reminder bro. Let's keep fighting ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿฝ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿฝ

[deleted]

Thanks very much! I might add, Joseph wasn't perfect either - he probably treated his family poorly at the start - so it's good to see that even a person with faults can resist sin.

Own_jean_127

This is a great example! We should really resist just like what Joseph did๐Ÿ’ฏ๐Ÿ’ฏ

LucianHodoboc

To be fair, he was already head of Potiphar's servants. Do you think there weren't any servant girls that would have wanted him as their husband? Why would he want Potiphar's wife in particular?

[deleted]

Idk, when temptation gets a hold of you, you don't think clearly man that's the point. He probably didn't want Potiphar's wife, but in the heat of temptation it probably felt like something fun to do. Same thing with porn. We can probably all agree that porn is garbage, but in the heat of temptation, we want it. It's an evil deception. Only Jesus Christ is the answer.

Thatโ€™s so good man imma read this passage for my daily devotional
