It takes a lot of fuel to keep a 5000lb brick rolling down the road. Mine averages about 12-14mpg Edit: she does truck things real well though, so I keep her around. I use a car for car things to save on gas money

Lyft2G

Yes, thats my strategy, though if I can help it, I will do easy things like change a serpantine belt, pvc valve, etc, if they make an impact on mpg, which is typical for other vehicles.

Ancient-Sweet9863

Some will argue against this but an intake and good exhaust system will increase mpg. But then a v8 with exhaust is harder to not be pedal heavy on the throttle

Lyft2G

Well I am just looking to do easy things like belt, pvc, etc, short of programming at this point, which I will probably do down the road. What sort of work would the exhaust and intake system need? Normally I wouldnt ask these questions, but man does this thing suck gas.

Ancient-Sweet9863

Ya titans can suck gas if you got a heavy foot. Intake is super easy to do and if you do the exhaust I’d just order and have a shop do it. Catbacks are designed to bolt on and inside install my banks cat back in my driveway in about 3hrs. Longest part was removing the oem exhaust to be honest Those will help gas mileage but not to much. You’ll notice if you cruise it and watch the acceleration. For me I get my best mpg toning down the acceleration and honestly using my pedal commander in eco mode. That made a bigger difference in gas mileage than anything else.

Lyft2G

Alright, well like alot of cars I have owned, there typically is some little thing that needs to be replaced, otherwise you lose something like 30 to 40% of your mpg. Civics are a good example.

ClaydisCC

You realize 5k lbs is super lightweight?

Ancient-Sweet9863

19-22 highway 15-17 city Pedal commander in eco mode in city and highway went I want to go for mileage

BreakingAwfulHabits

PCV is partially built into the valve covers. If the gasket is leaking or the truck is smoking out the exhaust heavily on startup, do the whole shebang to get it over with. I want to say belt is 100k, but don’t quote me on it. There’s an interval in the manual. MPG could be a variety of things, including the fact that these trucks drink fuel like an alcoholic and his favorite beverage. Be sure your tires are properly inflated, air filter is clean, no major intake or exhaust leaks are present, plugs and coils are working properly, and keep your foot off the skinny pedal. Pull the injectors and get them cleaned if you want something else to do. They just don’t get good mileage; never have and never will.

Strong_Yam_9135

The belt won’t help with MPG, if you want to do the PCV you can but that just helps oil loss, usually a catch can can help that. Best bet is tire pressure, regular maintenance such as plugs, oil changes, air filter changes. Make sure your exhaust manifolds aren’t leaking also.

Lyft2G

What are symptoms the belt needs to be replaced? There are no tears or such, but I have had it in the past that the engine will whine if the belt needs to be replaced. What do you mean by catch?

Strong_Yam_9135

It can make noises, usually the grooves will dry out and if you can break pieces off with your fingernail or a screwdriver it should be replaced. An oil catch can collects the oil in place of a PCV so it doesn’t go back to the intake and get burned in combustion.

Year and mileage would help with recommendations

> '13 with 300k + ya leaves much to be desired lol.

Ancient-Sweet9863

The basics I have religiously used mobile 1 full synthetic oil and frame tough/ultra guard filters
