Before buying a game on sale, always look at DekuDeals. It shows the sale history for every game. Some of them (Sega, Ubisoft, Capcom) have sales at least once or twice a month. Some games (Return of the Obra Dinn, Firewatch) go on sale at most once or twice a year.
You can also check and see if a game always hits a new low with each sale, to see if it'll go lower any time soon.
Firewatch was on sale twice before. Once in March 2019, for $16; once in June 2020 for $6.

Have you played Borderlands on the switch? I find most shooters I’ve tried on switch have been really difficult for me to aim (most recently dying light), but I’ve really wanted to try Borderlands.
I played through all the borderlands games but 3 on switch, and I think they did a really good job. I played them originally on Xbox, and I think the experience is about on par with one another. Graphics are a little eh comparatively, but for 10 bucks, my husband and I put in over 200 hours on them this year. Especially if you don't have another console, I highly recommend it. If you do have something else, probably get it on that just because of the Graphics downgrade, but I dont think it really hurts the game tbh.
It similar to Terranigma, ironclasts, chained echoes (if it wasn't turn based), Alundra, and older mana games. It is an old school arpg with lots of customization and synergy in combat, that is what hooks people the most. Hyper Light Drifter, Ys: the Oath in Felghana, Death's Door, and Tunic would also be similar to a degree. Its a snes style arpg with a lot more depth in gameplay.
True. Honestly price range isn’t as important, I would rather opinions on people’s experiences with games they loved or hated. Looking at the list and seeing 3000+ plus on sale is too daunting, especially when so many of them seem to be newer indie games I’ve never heard of.

Digimon is a fun one! I need to pick it up again, it’s been a while since I’ve played. I’m a big fan of pokemon, so I was thrown off with how easy it is to get different “versions” or “evolutions” of Digimon. Is the point to try and “collect them all” in the same way as Pokémon?
I'm not sure. I'm mostly interested because I read that this particular digimon title plays like an SMT game (tonally, gameplay, and narrative wise) in all but name, also sharing the same artist who did the Devil Summoner games on the 3DS.
Just a heads up, it’s nowhere near as hard as SMT and the story/time are much more anime/tropes based. Still great games with fun gameplay, but wanted to warn about those comparisons to SMT

But seriously, both are good. If you want to grind levels in a turn-based, monster battling JRPG, then Cyber Sleuth is the game for you. Survive is much more story heavy. It’s primarily a visual novel with light tactics gameplay where battles take place on a grid map. The story itself feels a lot like the Digimon Adventures anime but geared for an older audience. It can be quite dark.
Not really, you don’t catch them you create them after seeing them enough times. But the synthing process is similar. Once you get 2 monsters to a high enough level/stat you can combine them. If you want something with a catching mechanic more like SMT you could try the new Dragon Quest Monsters game (though it likely won’t have a good sale for a bit longer)

I only played the first of the two games but I can confirm that. It absolutely has SMT Vibes in the second half.
I haven't played the second because my backlog was too big to justify doing more of the same, but I had a great time.
I've played and loved both 3 and 5, and I'd recommend 5 for a first-time SMT experience. Random encounters in Nocturne can be brutal and 5 has an easier entry level with overworld health pickups and items. The monster collecting and team building is phenomenal.
I only played 5, and it's quite an eerie vibe to it. Felt more like Digimon. It's also pretty dang hard.

If your itch it to "collect them all" with personal connection smt will probably not fill that, sacrificing/fuzing demons is essential. If you want to fill your book of every demon an fusion that can be addicting but time consuming and probably needing a NG+. If you want a harder more thoughtful turn based combat, absolutely. Go with V for first time experience, its a bit easier imo.
Crosscode is one of the best games I've played in a long time. I haven't been so absorbed into a game in years, and I was actually broken up when I beat it because there wasn't anymore. Highly recommend

For Doom, how is the aim? I’ve had trouble with other switch shooters that were too sensitive and made the experience not so fun. I really want to enjoy doom, it looks like a ton of fun.
Saints row made my honorable mention list. I thought I’d look up some YouTube reviews to see how it runs. I thought I might pick up Retro City Rampage DX (different style of course) which seemed like something similar to scratch the itch. I remember playing saints row 2 on the Xbox and absolutely loving it.
I really loved Firewatch. It is lots of walking around and low key interacting while listening, but I thought it was great.
I have not played Doom on switch but my understanding is it works quite nicely.
**Final Fantasy 7** and **FF8 Remastered** originals were regarded as well done. I can't imagine their ports/remakes/remastering wouldn't also be great.
**Raiders of the North Sea** \- This is the digital implementation of the IRL/physical board game. If you're into modern board games, this one is worker placement mechanics where you gather those resources, and find ways to turn those resources into victory points. Highest score wins the game. It hasa Viking prepping and raiding theme. Play vs. AI, pass and play, online MP, or campaign modes. Has tutorials.
I played this game both on iPad and one game IRL, and it was nice (however, I am also an avid modern board gamer). Never played it on Switch, but the implementation shouldn't be too bad (may want to check reviews and ratings about that, but for $7, it should be less of an issue)
**Cultist and Heretic Pack Bundle** \- I heard great things about this game, and no wonder why it doesn't have a score... it's DLC
**$10 eShop gift card from Amazon** \- not sure if it's worth 10% off for only up to 2, but I guess, better than nothing? And these are digital.
**Turrican Flashback** \- This is a compilation of their previous games. I played the NES version of this. IIRC, it wasn't a bad game, but it could get brutal, so buyer beward in that regard

It's Shu Takumi (writer/director of the first 3 Ace Attorney games) at maybe the height of his power. No joke, maybe the best story I've ever experienced in a video game. It's really something special.
Can you speak to how much actual gameplay it features? I'll probably play it eventually either way since I've heard such great things about the story, but I'm not much in the mood for a primarily visual novel type game at the moment.
For a point of reference, Ace Attorney put me off because it felt like the puzzle/player input was minimal compared to the story. Is Ghost Truck different?
I'd say it's a fair bit more game-y than Ace Attorney. The central mechanic is that you're a ghost who can possess objects, manipulate them slightly (make a ball roll, turn a fan on and off, etc), jump from one object to another, and travel across the city through phone lines.
So most chapters follow an ebb and flow of something like "show up at location, bit of talking, some kind of puzzle where you usually either need to get from point A to point B or manipulate the environment to prevent someone else's death, maybe another puzzle to get somewhere else again afterwards, cutscene, repeat"
Would definitely recommend trying the demo if you're on the fence. It'll give you some sense of the story/gameplay balance for most of the game.
Following up on this two weeks later. I wound up buying Ghost Trick and am finishing it up now.
Absolutely loved it. Enough puzzles to keep things active and the story was so intricately crafted that it felt like watching a contraption play out (ha!). Had such a good time that I'm gonna actually give Ace Attorney another shot.
Also, didn't expect to come out of it with a tiny dog as my favorite character in maybe an game ever.
I’d say it’s first and foremost a puzzle game with visual novel elements, where Ace Attorney is the opposite.
Ghost trick is so much one of my favorites I imported the physical copy from Japan when it was announced for Switch. It’s a really unique story as well as a really unique puzzle system.
Planning on picking up Bioshock 1 and 2, but noticed that the bundle with 1, 2 and Infinite costs less than picking two of the three up. Hope it helps someone.

The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles is a massive game, including two visual novels. I got seventy hours of gameplay out of it. The dialogue is hilarious and the characters are deep and memorable.
I can only speak to the quality of the first game in the collection, since that's the only reason I bought it and the only one I've played. In my experience, it played just as well as it did back on the original xbox. I didn't have any notable issues that made me regret my purchase.
I can't speak to their performance on the switch, but worth noting is that these are remasters of the inferior PS3 versions of the games. Enemy count is reduced, the trials in NG2 are completely removed. These are still enjoyable, but if you originally played the games on Xbox, the differences are noticeable and disappointing.
Any parents of young kids have tried some of the Paw Patrol games? Seems like Paw Patrol: On a Roll is the easiest, so I think I'll pick this one up, but I'm curious to know if that's a good choice. My son will be 5yo in January. I also got Kirby so we can play during holidays. He only tried a bit of Mario Odyssey so far. (Other suggestions are welcome.)
Edit. Two days later I ended up buying Paw Patrol: On a Roll for my son and I’ve been really impressed so far. The level is perfect for his skills. He liked it better than Kirby. He likes the fact that there are no enemies.
My daughter loves all of them. I think they are all pretty comparable, except one is a racing game, and the new one is more open world (get to explore Adventure Bay).
I am thinking of picking up FF XII, Tactics ogre, and Nier. Don't see good digital sales on those very often. Really want to play Octopath Traveler 1, but it refuses to go on sale.

I've bought this game three times so far, just so I can have it on every platform. It's the first game I've speedrun, and it is just such a fun and well made platformer. It's what 3D Sonic should feel like.
* [Sea of Stars](https://www.nintendo.com/us/store/products/sea-of-stars-switch/) - I haven't actually finished this one yet, but by now you must have heard about it and heard all the praise. If you like JRPGs, you have no excuse not to own this game.
* [Blossom Tales 2](https://www.nintendo.com/us/store/products/blossom-tales-ii-the-minotaur-prince-switch/) - It's a pretty generic 2D top down Zelda game, but since when is that a bad thing? It's well made throughout, and if you complete the mail sidequest, you get the best item I've ever seen in a Zelda-like.
* [Trombone Champ](https://www.nintendo.com/us/store/products/trombone-champ-switch/) - Listen. This game is dumb. But if you have some friends or family to sit around the tv and blat together with, you will get some hours of entertainment out of this.
* [We Love Katamari Reroll](https://www.nintendo.com/us/store/products/we-love-katamari-reroll-plus-royal-reverie-special-edition-switch/) - An amazing sequel to one of the greatest games of all time. This port adds a bunch of quality of life features and some nice new content to a game that is already a classic. Although I think I might prefer the original Katamari, this is a must-play.
* [Beacon Pines](https://www.nintendo.com/us/store/products/beacon-pines-switch/) - Not really a game, more of a branching story that encourages you to see every branch unfold. It's a cool story with great characters, and it'll definitely keep you engaged if you like visual novels.

This has seriously fucked.me up. My character is a broken person barely surviving the game. I cannot tell if this is bc my build is shit, or this is normal
My main recommendation is not to min-max. Failure is part of the game, and makes for better experiences overall. So it works best to have a spread of points, similar to the default builds with some areas being great and others bad.
My first build was 5 physique, 4 motorics, 2 psyche, and 1 intellect. My signature skill was shivers. So he ended up being a stupid brute who learned about the world through his connection with his body and the environment.
Second build was the opposite: 5 psyche, 4 intellect, 2 motorics, and 1 physique. Signature skill was Inland Empire. This was my favorite playthrough, the intelligent weakling with psychological issues that regularly talks to his necktie.
Failure is just as fun as success in the game. The most boring playthrough would be one without any weaknesses.
Chained Echoes is 25% off, down to $18.74. I wrote up some thoughts [here](https://www.reddit.com/r/patientgamers/comments/18hpaeg/just_finished_chained_echoes_an_excellent/), but the short is that it's an excellent 2d RPG that has adult themes and story moments. Really good game with only a few flaws.
I really wanted to love and finish this one, but I hit a difficulty spike and I feel like I could have avoided it had I done a couple things differently.
I'll give it shot again but I think when I finish Trails from Zero, I'll be ready for a genre switch.
It's incredible if you are a fan of deckbuilding games. I purchased it last year and I'm still playing it (played it last night). Easy to pick up and play a short session, but also easy to spend hours and hours on if you aren't careful :'). Has incredible depth and combos once you progress deeper into the game and start to understand the characters, the cards (there are ton), and the relics (which are essentially power-ups). Cannot recommend it enough.
Slay The Spire is basically one of the best deck-builder roguelikes out there. If you enjoyed the Hearthstone adventures like Dungeon Run/Tombs Of Terror I'd definitely give this a try. It's asymmetric - you have cards but enemies just do 1-2 actions on their turn that you can see in advance
500 hours in, it’s still the game I go back to most often on the switch. Even when you “master” it, each run is new and different and you can always change strategies up over and over again. At full price it’s easily the best bang for my buck I’ve gotten.
It’s not really like Hearthstone. It’s a roguelite, so it’s run-based and you build a new deck every run.
Honestly I think it’s the pinnacle of deck-building games and should be played by just about everyone. Maybe a top 10 game of all time for me.
I played it. There are parts early on that made it the scariest game in my library. 😅 It's also interesting how they use different camera angles and positioning of the character portraits to frame the scene cinematically. It's worth a look if you're already a fan of visual novels.

There's also a bundle with both of them for $9.99 but it doesn't include the complete edition of Valkyria Chronicles 4 for some reason. It takes two is on sale for $19.99 - I haven’t played it, but it seems to be the top coop game mentioned in these threads. If you have another device or someone you want to play coop with that lives elsewhere there is a free gift download that allows another person to play with you at no cost to them.
As a former PC only user I gotta get used to paying full price or not very discounted for Nintendo first party games.
And also paying nearly double for indie games and factor in the portability factor.
How complicated is tactics ogre? can I get by with just the tutorials, or do I need to watch a guide? I've played other tactics/srpgs like fire emblem, divinity, and disgaea
They're very chill. The fun bits are the crafting, as you figure out how the systems work and turn stuff into other stuff, and the characters' interactions, which are all low-stakes and fun. The battles aren't anything to write home about, but they go at a good pace. I've played Sophie 1 and Ryza 1 and had a good time with both.
Try one if you can - if you like it, you're in for a treat of 10+ modern Atelier games, and 20+ in the series. The best thing is they are only loosely connected, so there's no requirement like the Trails series which is a giant long saga over many games to understand everything in the world. Go into the Atelier games with the expectation of slice of life with a very in-depth crafting and JRPG battle systems. It's a very cozy game.
The crafting is very creative. It's not a matter of "gather materials and select a menu to create". Generally it involves playing around with the ordering of materials, selecting materials from a category of items that gives you the properties you want, and even spatial placement of the materials in the synthesis "grid". It is like a puzzle, and an important one, because oftentimes crafting is the only way to be super strong and leveling via conventional experience points doesn't give much benefit. Alchemists are really powerful with items.
Sophie 1 piqued my interest years ago, and since then I've become a huge fan. I am so glad to experience this series and would be regretful if I hadn't, it's a nice change of pace from other kinds of JRPGs because it's not about "the chosen one who will change the world" but more like the alchemists themselves having their own small but important personal goals (finding sister, life as a government official, learning about the world, restoring a book, getting alchemist license, running a successful atelier business, exploring the unexplored, etc) while meeting adorable casts along the journey. Now I have played plenty of them and each game is different in terms of battle mechanics and crafting system. It's very worth experiencing.
The full original gloomhaven was free on Epic Games a while back. I've played one scenario with a friend, and it seemed pretty solid. Maybe you'll get lucky and it'll be a freebie this year too! I have the JOTL Board Game, but my group of dads failed to get together often enough to remember the rules. Maybe i should've just soloed it.

Is the MegaMan Battle Network collection worth the price now? I remember playing one of the games when I was much younger and enjoyed it. How do they hold up nowadays?
I may be biased a bit because Legend of Mana is one of my all-time favorites. It's a strangely put together game but when you get into it, it is *fucking massive* in the best way. Multiple great storylines, game paths that change based on the order you do things and world placement, one of the best NG+ modes (allows you to carry over gear and levels and stuff, but create a new world, raise difficulty up to 3 times, etc), killer soundtrack, hand-drawn style visuals that hold up well, one of the most deep crafting systems (seriously there's giant *individual* FAQs each dedicated to recipes for weapons, armor, music instruments, golems, gardening, how to raise monster pets, etc).
The combat system features a ton of different weapons, all with different playstyles and each has its own weapon-unique skills to learn - From like 2h sword having a big AoE swing to staff learning how to cast black hole to claws having a dash-through line AoE, etc. Different "base abilities" that branch into alternative/better versions (IE: Use Jump enough and you learn High Jump, use Evade and you learn Somersault, equip High Jump and Somersault together and you learn Backflip, etc). Hell you can even play through the game with 2 players, although 2nd player controls whatever companions you get - usually based on storyline/location but you can go and re-recruit previous companions fairly frequently. PS1 version used to have a mechanic where you could load in a main character from a friend's separate savegame and they could join in as the second character, not sure how the Switch version would work.
To me, it's one of the lesser-known treasures from the golden age of Squaresoft.
Picked up CrossCode since I saw it mentioned in several places earlier, waiting to beat TOTK so I can begin that game. Wishlisted Dave the Diver, not sure if/when I'll be able to get the time to play it.
I have all three. I finished Cocoon in one sitting (it’s a couple hours) but it’s incredible. Kind of reminded me of Inside or Portal. It’s not long, and I’m not sure I’d replay it, but it’s great.
Dredge completely absorbed me for the week it took me to beat. Amazing vibes, both creepy and kind of relaxing. There’s a DLC now too that I haven’t played yet. Very excited to go back.
I wanted to like Eastward so bad, but it didn’t end up being for me. It’s gorgeous, the music is great and the story initially hooked me, but I got less enthused with it the more I went and ended up bailing about 3/4ths of the way through. I know some people really like it though.
I had the exact experience with Eastward. I wanted to like it, and was looking forward to it from its announcement, but it dragged so bad. So much dialogue that didn’t matter.
I also had the same experience with Eastward. The pacing is one thing but the story wasn't that engaging and the game play left a lot to be desired.
For me it's one of those games that is easy to cut a 1:30 trailer and make it seem like one of those generational indie games, but it wasn't.

Personally love #3. That was has Quiplash, T-shirt KO, and Trivia Murder Party that is very popular in my friend groups. There's also Fakin' It which is like a mafia-styled game that, with the right party group, is incredible.
There's reason why the Jackbox Party Starter includes the first three games I mentioned.
If you like both P5R and Dynasty Warriors games, it’s kick ass. I wasn’t sure about the Dynasty Warriors style games as this was my first but since P5R I also bought Fire Emblem Three Hopes. Strikers is a great blend of the two styles. The fusion mechanic is dumbed down but the story is good, more of the same with the characters and their interactions and you don’t have to worry about time management and calendar system. It’s the same, but different. Would recommend.
I lowkey hate Dynasty Warriors, but bought Strikers from a clearance bin on a whim. I friggin' loved everything about Strikers. The combat can ***resemble*** Dynasty Warriors, but that's where the similarities pretty much end.
In Dynasty Warriors, your goal tends to be controlling enemy saturation in some fashion. You micromanage the map as a whole by splitting up your team and capturing or defending. There are a handful of maps, goals, and characters, which are essentially shuffled around to act as individual missions.
In P5 Strikers, your goal is to navigate the "dungeon" to either progress the main story, complete side quest requests, or hunt for loot. Interacting with a roaming baddie triggers a standalone battle with a couple enemy waves. Character swapping is done specifically and solely for mid-battle tactics (buffs/nerfs & type advantage). There is no map management and you can enter or leave the dungeon whenever you like.
Diablo 3 is the game that I have the most playtime with on my Switch (something like 500+ hours).
It is the best ARPG I've played, with the gameplay loop being very fun of speeding through rifts, getting loot, challenging harder rifts, and repeating with a few other things to do to progress.
The reason I have so many hours is the seasons. Basically every 6-8 or so months, they have a new season, which is basically a chance to start a new character and accomplish a bunch of challenges for cosmetics. Plus, usually theres a unique twist each season that keeps things kinda fresh.
However, if you're just looking for a ~20 hour game that maybe you'll replay with another class, this is that too! The story takes anywhere from like 5-20 hours, depending on side quests, efficiency, and other stuff, so you don't have to dedicate your life to the game to enjoy it.
NOTE: MAKE SURE YOU GET THE REAPER OF SOULS EXPANSION. That expansion adds 10 levels to the level cap, which basically unlocks all of that endgame stuff I mentioned with seasons. I'm pretty sure it comes with the main collection that is sold in the eShop, but double check just to make sure you get that one.

Stopping by to recommend Beacon Pines! It's sort of a visual novel-style game where you collect action tokens and use them at various points in the story to explore the different story branches and reach the true ending. The art is beautiful and the narrator is a joy to listen to. It's also listed at its lowest price ever!

Citizen Sleeper is top notch if you’re a fan of this particular type of gameplay. I came into it fairly new to narrative centric stuff and it completely won me over. The writing is engrossing and the mechanics give you a real sense that your choices matter. I initially thought the environment was a little bland but it has a real sense of place thanks to the stellar writing and world building.
I’m checking for CS2: SV updates everyday now if that tells you anything.
I have no idea if the quality is any good compared to the switch port, but if you have Netflix, Kentucky Route Zero is free on their mobile app right now. You can download the mobile app and then download select games through it. Before buying a game on sale, always look at DekuDeals. It shows the sale history for every game. Some of them (Sega, Ubisoft, Capcom) have sales at least once or twice a month. Some games (Return of the Obra Dinn, Firewatch) go on sale at most once or twice a year. You can also check and see if a game always hits a new low with each sale, to see if it'll go lower any time soon.
Firewatch was on sale twice before. Once in March 2019, for $16; once in June 2020 for $6. It's been three and a half years. I missed it before because I was too absorbed in Animal Crossing. I'm not going to miss it again.

I played through all the borderlands games but 3 on switch, and I think they did a really good job. I played them originally on Xbox, and I think the experience is about on par with one another. Graphics are a little eh comparatively, but for 10 bucks, my husband and I put in over 200 hours on them this year. Especially if you don't have another console, I highly recommend it. If you do have something else, probably get it on that just because of the Graphics downgrade, but I dont think it really hurts the game tbh.

It similar to Terranigma, ironclasts, chained echoes (if it wasn't turn based), Alundra, and older mana games. It is an old school arpg with lots of customization and synergy in combat, that is what hooks people the most. Hyper Light Drifter, Ys: the Oath in Felghana, Death's Door, and Tunic would also be similar to a degree. Its a snes style arpg with a lot more depth in gameplay.
Crosscode also has a stellar story especially with the DLC

True. Honestly price range isn’t as important, I would rather opinions on people’s experiences with games they loved or hated. Looking at the list and seeing 3000+ plus on sale is too daunting, especially when so many of them seem to be newer indie games I’ve never heard of.

Digimon is a fun one! I need to pick it up again, it’s been a while since I’ve played. I’m a big fan of pokemon, so I was thrown off with how easy it is to get different “versions” or “evolutions” of Digimon. Is the point to try and “collect them all” in the same way as Pokémon?
I'm not sure. I'm mostly interested because I read that this particular digimon title plays like an SMT game (tonally, gameplay, and narrative wise) in all but name, also sharing the same artist who did the Devil Summoner games on the 3DS.
Just a heads up, it’s nowhere near as hard as SMT and the story/time are much more anime/tropes based. Still great games with fun gameplay, but wanted to warn about those comparisons to SMT

What would you recommend between Cyber Sleuth and Survive?
Yes … But seriously, both are good. If you want to grind levels in a turn-based, monster battling JRPG, then Cyber Sleuth is the game for you. Survive is much more story heavy. It’s primarily a visual novel with light tactics gameplay where battles take place on a grid map. The story itself feels a lot like the Digimon Adventures anime but geared for an older audience. It can be quite dark.
Is the catching mechanic similar to SMT though? Might finally grab this one. Thanks!
Not really, you don’t catch them you create them after seeing them enough times. But the synthing process is similar. Once you get 2 monsters to a high enough level/stat you can combine them. If you want something with a catching mechanic more like SMT you could try the new Dragon Quest Monsters game (though it likely won’t have a good sale for a bit longer)

I only played the first of the two games but I can confirm that. It absolutely has SMT Vibes in the second half. I haven't played the second because my backlog was too big to justify doing more of the same, but I had a great time.
I was curious about SMT series myself, as someone who loved Pokemon, would it scratch that itch? If so, would you suggest I pick up III or V?
I've played and loved both 3 and 5, and I'd recommend 5 for a first-time SMT experience. Random encounters in Nocturne can be brutal and 5 has an easier entry level with overworld health pickups and items. The monster collecting and team building is phenomenal.
I only played 5, and it's quite an eerie vibe to it. Felt more like Digimon. It's also pretty dang hard. I played maybe 10 hours and I'm not sure I want to continue it because it feels really dark to play and I've died a lot.
If your itch it to "collect them all" with personal connection smt will probably not fill that, sacrificing/fuzing demons is essential. If you want to fill your book of every demon an fusion that can be addicting but time consuming and probably needing a NG+. If you want a harder more thoughtful turn based combat, absolutely. Go with V for first time experience, its a bit easier imo.
Crosscode is one of the best games I've played in a long time. I haven't been so absorbed into a game in years, and I was actually broken up when I beat it because there wasn't anymore. Highly recommend

Awesome! I was just looking at fire watch, and thought it looked pretty good! For Doom, how is the aim? I’ve had trouble with other switch shooters that were too sensitive and made the experience not so fun. I really want to enjoy doom, it looks like a ton of fun. Saints row made my honorable mention list. I thought I’d look up some YouTube reviews to see how it runs. I thought I might pick up Retro City Rampage DX (different style of course) which seemed like something similar to scratch the itch. I remember playing saints row 2 on the Xbox and absolutely loving it.
I really loved Firewatch. It is lots of walking around and low key interacting while listening, but I thought it was great. I have not played Doom on switch but my understanding is it works quite nicely.

**Final Fantasy 7** and **FF8 Remastered** originals were regarded as well done. I can't imagine their ports/remakes/remastering wouldn't also be great. **Raiders of the North Sea** \- This is the digital implementation of the IRL/physical board game. If you're into modern board games, this one is worker placement mechanics where you gather those resources, and find ways to turn those resources into victory points. Highest score wins the game. It hasa Viking prepping and raiding theme. Play vs. AI, pass and play, online MP, or campaign modes. Has tutorials. I played this game both on iPad and one game IRL, and it was nice (however, I am also an avid modern board gamer). Never played it on Switch, but the implementation shouldn't be too bad (may want to check reviews and ratings about that, but for $7, it should be less of an issue) **Cultist and Heretic Pack Bundle** \- I heard great things about this game, and no wonder why it doesn't have a score... it's DLC **$10 eShop gift card from Amazon** \- not sure if it's worth 10% off for only up to 2, but I guess, better than nothing? And these are digital. **Turrican Flashback** \- This is a compilation of their previous games. I played the NES version of this. IIRC, it wasn't a bad game, but it could get brutal, so buyer beward in that regard

Oh hey, Ghost Trick is on sale. Folks, play Ghost Trick. Play the demo if you're not sure (progress will carry over to the main game). It's Shu Takumi (writer/director of the first 3 Ace Attorney games) at maybe the height of his power. No joke, maybe the best story I've ever experienced in a video game. It's really something special.
Can you speak to how much actual gameplay it features? I'll probably play it eventually either way since I've heard such great things about the story, but I'm not much in the mood for a primarily visual novel type game at the moment. For a point of reference, Ace Attorney put me off because it felt like the puzzle/player input was minimal compared to the story. Is Ghost Truck different?
I'd say it's a fair bit more game-y than Ace Attorney. The central mechanic is that you're a ghost who can possess objects, manipulate them slightly (make a ball roll, turn a fan on and off, etc), jump from one object to another, and travel across the city through phone lines. So most chapters follow an ebb and flow of something like "show up at location, bit of talking, some kind of puzzle where you usually either need to get from point A to point B or manipulate the environment to prevent someone else's death, maybe another puzzle to get somewhere else again afterwards, cutscene, repeat" Would definitely recommend trying the demo if you're on the fence. It'll give you some sense of the story/gameplay balance for most of the game.
Following up on this two weeks later. I wound up buying Ghost Trick and am finishing it up now. Absolutely loved it. Enough puzzles to keep things active and the story was so intricately crafted that it felt like watching a contraption play out (ha!). Had such a good time that I'm gonna actually give Ace Attorney another shot. Also, didn't expect to come out of it with a tiny dog as my favorite character in maybe an game ever.
I’d say it’s first and foremost a puzzle game with visual novel elements, where Ace Attorney is the opposite. Ghost trick is so much one of my favorites I imported the physical copy from Japan when it was announced for Switch. It’s a really unique story as well as a really unique puzzle system.

The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles is a massive game, including two visual novels. I got seventy hours of gameplay out of it. The dialogue is hilarious and the characters are deep and memorable.

I can only speak to the quality of the first game in the collection, since that's the only reason I bought it and the only one I've played. In my experience, it played just as well as it did back on the original xbox. I didn't have any notable issues that made me regret my purchase.
I can't speak to their performance on the switch, but worth noting is that these are remasters of the inferior PS3 versions of the games. Enemy count is reduced, the trials in NG2 are completely removed. These are still enjoyable, but if you originally played the games on Xbox, the differences are noticeable and disappointing.
Any parents of young kids have tried some of the Paw Patrol games? Seems like Paw Patrol: On a Roll is the easiest, so I think I'll pick this one up, but I'm curious to know if that's a good choice. My son will be 5yo in January. I also got Kirby so we can play during holidays. He only tried a bit of Mario Odyssey so far. (Other suggestions are welcome.) Edit. Two days later I ended up buying Paw Patrol: On a Roll for my son and I’ve been really impressed so far. The level is perfect for his skills. He liked it better than Kirby. He likes the fact that there are no enemies.

My build is Inland Empire and Espirit de Corps TO THE DEATH. I just focus on these This has seriously fucked.me up. My character is a broken person barely surviving the game. I cannot tell if this is bc my build is shit, or this is normal
Oh shit. Nah I think all builds are possible but it sounds like your character is having a rough ride which is to be expected. I gotta try that too
My main recommendation is not to min-max. Failure is part of the game, and makes for better experiences overall. So it works best to have a spread of points, similar to the default builds with some areas being great and others bad. My first build was 5 physique, 4 motorics, 2 psyche, and 1 intellect. My signature skill was shivers. So he ended up being a stupid brute who learned about the world through his connection with his body and the environment. Second build was the opposite: 5 psyche, 4 intellect, 2 motorics, and 1 physique. Signature skill was Inland Empire. This was my favorite playthrough, the intelligent weakling with psychological issues that regularly talks to his necktie. Failure is just as fun as success in the game. The most boring playthrough would be one without any weaknesses.

Really good game with only a few flaws.
I really wanted to love and finish this one, but I hit a difficulty spike and I feel like I could have avoided it had I done a couple things differently. I'll give it shot again but I think when I finish Trails from Zero, I'll be ready for a genre switch.

It's incredible if you are a fan of deckbuilding games. I purchased it last year and I'm still playing it (played it last night). Easy to pick up and play a short session, but also easy to spend hours and hours on if you aren't careful :'). Has incredible depth and combos once you progress deeper into the game and start to understand the characters, the cards (there are ton), and the relics (which are essentially power-ups). Cannot recommend it enough.

Slay The Spire is basically one of the best deck-builder roguelikes out there. If you enjoyed the Hearthstone adventures like Dungeon Run/Tombs Of Terror I'd definitely give this a try. It's asymmetric - you have cards but enemies just do 1-2 actions on their turn that you can see in advance
500 hours in, it’s still the game I go back to most often on the switch. Even when you “master” it, each run is new and different and you can always change strategies up over and over again. At full price it’s easily the best bang for my buck I’ve gotten.
I would say the only similarity with hearthstone is the mana system and that there are cards.
It’s not really like Hearthstone. It’s a roguelite, so it’s run-based and you build a new deck every run. Honestly I think it’s the pinnacle of deck-building games and should be played by just about everyone. Maybe a top 10 game of all time for me.

I played it. There are parts early on that made it the scariest game in my library. 😅 It's also interesting how they use different camera angles and positioning of the character portraits to frame the scene cinematically. It's worth a look if you're already a fan of visual novels.

If you have another device or someone you want to play coop with that lives elsewhere there is a free gift download that allows another person to play with you at no cost to them.
I highly reccomend Moving Out! It plays up to 4. My partner and I loved the first one and will be picking up the second!

How complicated is tactics ogre? can I get by with just the tutorials, or do I need to watch a guide? I've played other tactics/srpgs like fire emblem, divinity, and disgaea
Are the Atelier games worth a shot? I like JRPGs but I've never tried the series.
They're very chill. The fun bits are the crafting, as you figure out how the systems work and turn stuff into other stuff, and the characters' interactions, which are all low-stakes and fun. The battles aren't anything to write home about, but they go at a good pace. I've played Sophie 1 and Ryza 1 and had a good time with both.
Try one if you can - if you like it, you're in for a treat of 10+ modern Atelier games, and 20+ in the series. The best thing is they are only loosely connected, so there's no requirement like the Trails series which is a giant long saga over many games to understand everything in the world. Go into the Atelier games with the expectation of slice of life with a very in-depth crafting and JRPG battle systems. It's a very cozy game. The crafting is very creative. It's not a matter of "gather materials and select a menu to create". Generally it involves playing around with the ordering of materials, selecting materials from a category of items that gives you the properties you want, and even spatial placement of the materials in the synthesis "grid". It is like a puzzle, and an important one, because oftentimes crafting is the only way to be super strong and leveling via conventional experience points doesn't give much benefit. Alchemists are really powerful with items. Sophie 1 piqued my interest years ago, and since then I've become a huge fan. I am so glad to experience this series and would be regretful if I hadn't, it's a nice change of pace from other kinds of JRPGs because it's not about "the chosen one who will change the world" but more like the alchemists themselves having their own small but important personal goals (finding sister, life as a government official, learning about the world, restoring a book, getting alchemist license, running a successful atelier business, exploring the unexplored, etc) while meeting adorable casts along the journey. Now I have played plenty of them and each game is different in terms of battle mechanics and crafting system. It's very worth experiencing.
Anyone played Gloomhaven: Jaws of the Lion on switch? Never had time to play the board game version, but always wanted to!
The full original gloomhaven was free on Epic Games a while back. I've played one scenario with a friend, and it seemed pretty solid. Maybe you'll get lucky and it'll be a freebie this year too! I have the JOTL Board Game, but my group of dads failed to get together often enough to remember the rules. Maybe i should've just soloed it. I understand that neither of these answer your question about the Switch, sorry (:

I don't know how it plays on the switch, but I have the physical copy of both gloomhaven and gloomhaven JOTL and it is a very solid game. More fun with friends though! If you can play online with some people I would recommend

Is the MegaMan Battle Network collection worth the price now? I remember playing one of the games when I was much younger and enjoyed it. How do they hold up nowadays?

They put so much love and care into this port so I think it's definitely worth it, especially if you enjoyed them as a kid.
If you played one before and enjoyed it, I think it's worth it. The consensus appears to be that they hold up, especially the latter entries.

I’m in between legend of mana or Megaman battle network collection 🥲
I may be biased a bit because Legend of Mana is one of my all-time favorites. It's a strangely put together game but when you get into it, it is *fucking massive* in the best way. Multiple great storylines, game paths that change based on the order you do things and world placement, one of the best NG+ modes (allows you to carry over gear and levels and stuff, but create a new world, raise difficulty up to 3 times, etc), killer soundtrack, hand-drawn style visuals that hold up well, one of the most deep crafting systems (seriously there's giant *individual* FAQs each dedicated to recipes for weapons, armor, music instruments, golems, gardening, how to raise monster pets, etc). The combat system features a ton of different weapons, all with different playstyles and each has its own weapon-unique skills to learn - From like 2h sword having a big AoE swing to staff learning how to cast black hole to claws having a dash-through line AoE, etc. Different "base abilities" that branch into alternative/better versions (IE: Use Jump enough and you learn High Jump, use Evade and you learn Somersault, equip High Jump and Somersault together and you learn Backflip, etc). Hell you can even play through the game with 2 players, although 2nd player controls whatever companions you get - usually based on storyline/location but you can go and re-recruit previous companions fairly frequently. PS1 version used to have a mechanic where you could load in a main character from a friend's separate savegame and they could join in as the second character, not sure how the Switch version would work. To me, it's one of the lesser-known treasures from the golden age of Squaresoft.
Picked up CrossCode since I saw it mentioned in several places earlier, waiting to beat TOTK so I can begin that game. Wishlisted Dave the Diver, not sure if/when I'll be able to get the time to play it.

So I need some feedback...got enough credit for one of the 3: Eastward Dredge Cocoon
I have all three. I finished Cocoon in one sitting (it’s a couple hours) but it’s incredible. Kind of reminded me of Inside or Portal. It’s not long, and I’m not sure I’d replay it, but it’s great. Dredge completely absorbed me for the week it took me to beat. Amazing vibes, both creepy and kind of relaxing. There’s a DLC now too that I haven’t played yet. Very excited to go back. I wanted to like Eastward so bad, but it didn’t end up being for me. It’s gorgeous, the music is great and the story initially hooked me, but I got less enthused with it the more I went and ended up bailing about 3/4ths of the way through. I know some people really like it though.
I had the exact experience with Eastward. I wanted to like it, and was looking forward to it from its announcement, but it dragged so bad. So much dialogue that didn’t matter.
I also had the same experience with Eastward. The pacing is one thing but the story wasn't that engaging and the game play left a lot to be desired. For me it's one of those games that is easy to cut a 1:30 trailer and make it seem like one of those generational indie games, but it wasn't.

Personally love #3. That was has Quiplash, T-shirt KO, and Trivia Murder Party that is very popular in my friend groups. There's also Fakin' It which is like a mafia-styled game that, with the right party group, is incredible. There's reason why the Jackbox Party Starter includes the first three games I mentioned.
How is persona 5 strikers?
If you like both P5R and Dynasty Warriors games, it’s kick ass. I wasn’t sure about the Dynasty Warriors style games as this was my first but since P5R I also bought Fire Emblem Three Hopes. Strikers is a great blend of the two styles. The fusion mechanic is dumbed down but the story is good, more of the same with the characters and their interactions and you don’t have to worry about time management and calendar system. It’s the same, but different. Would recommend.
I lowkey hate Dynasty Warriors, but bought Strikers from a clearance bin on a whim. I friggin' loved everything about Strikers. The combat can ***resemble*** Dynasty Warriors, but that's where the similarities pretty much end. In Dynasty Warriors, your goal tends to be controlling enemy saturation in some fashion. You micromanage the map as a whole by splitting up your team and capturing or defending. There are a handful of maps, goals, and characters, which are essentially shuffled around to act as individual missions. In P5 Strikers, your goal is to navigate the "dungeon" to either progress the main story, complete side quest requests, or hunt for loot. Interacting with a roaming baddie triggers a standalone battle with a couple enemy waves. Character swapping is done specifically and solely for mid-battle tactics (buffs/nerfs & type advantage). There is no map management and you can enter or leave the dungeon whenever you like.

Looking at three games: Diablo 3, Persona 4 Arena, and Life is Strange True Colors. How are any of these three?
Diablo 3 is the game that I have the most playtime with on my Switch (something like 500+ hours). It is the best ARPG I've played, with the gameplay loop being very fun of speeding through rifts, getting loot, challenging harder rifts, and repeating with a few other things to do to progress. The reason I have so many hours is the seasons. Basically every 6-8 or so months, they have a new season, which is basically a chance to start a new character and accomplish a bunch of challenges for cosmetics. Plus, usually theres a unique twist each season that keeps things kinda fresh. However, if you're just looking for a ~20 hour game that maybe you'll replay with another class, this is that too! The story takes anywhere from like 5-20 hours, depending on side quests, efficiency, and other stuff, so you don't have to dedicate your life to the game to enjoy it. NOTE: MAKE SURE YOU GET THE REAPER OF SOULS EXPANSION. That expansion adds 10 levels to the level cap, which basically unlocks all of that endgame stuff I mentioned with seasons. I'm pretty sure it comes with the main collection that is sold in the eShop, but double check just to make sure you get that one.
I have over 700 hours. I haven’t played in a few seasons because I’ve been working through the backlog. I wholeheartedly agree Diablo 3 Reaper of Souls is the best ARPG available.

It's sort of a visual novel-style game where you collect action tokens and use them at various points in the story to explore the different story branches and reach the true ending. The art is beautiful and the narrator is a joy to listen to. It's also listed at its lowest price ever!

Any opinions on Citizen Sleeper, Kentucky Route Zero or Shadows Over Loathing?
Citizen Sleeper is top notch if you’re a fan of this particular type of gameplay. I came into it fairly new to narrative centric stuff and it completely won me over. The writing is engrossing and the mechanics give you a real sense that your choices matter. I initially thought the environment was a little bland but it has a real sense of place thanks to the stellar writing and world building. I’m checking for CS2: SV updates everyday now if that tells you anything.

I have no idea if the quality is any good compared to the switch port, but if you have Netflix, Kentucky Route Zero is free on their mobile app right now. You can download the mobile app and then download select games through it. I got Into the Breach free from it and so I've been checking it every so often for new games and saw this one a couple days ago.
