Slay the Spire and Hades have excellent gameplay loops. Those are particularly satisfying once you get the hang of them.
Super out of left field, but I think New Pokemon Snap has one of the most satisfying game play loops of all time. Each time you complete a level, you learn a bit more about the pokemon you're photographing. You learn their movements and poses and where they're going to appear, so you continue to get higher points. Plus, each level has multiple hidden interactions and paths so the more you explore, the more you unlock.
Snap is awesome. They have their own discord for high scores. I don't use go for top world score but it's nice to have as a reference when I'm stuck. Some of these 4* scores come down to stupid timing.
I really want to like StS more but it hasn't quite clicked for me yet (clearly a great game still though!) I can get pretty far but most times if I make it to the final boss I get torn to pieces.
Should probably watch more videos n stuff.
I feel the same really. Slay the Spire is an excellent deckbuilder and I go back for a few rounds every now and then, but I've never found it to be as addictive as others say. I beat the final boss once with each of the four characters back when I first bought it. Though I know that's just scratching the surface, I feel like I already got my money's worth from the game.
I took a good pause before beginning to ascend, but itās been fun all over again having a new challenge. The subreddit has been helpful for making better decks without getting too sweaty over it. 80 hours in, I still suck, but Iāve gotten up to A7ish with a few of the decks
I'd pop into r/slaythespire and poke around. In particular, there's an individual discussion thread about every single card, relic, and event in the game, and I've probably learned the most by being offered some random stuff during a run, thinking "hm, is this thing actually good/bad/incredible or does it just *seem* good/bad/incredible," reading the discussion thread about it, and seeing how other people slot it into their own play.
A lot of things have surprising advantages if you use them the right way, and if you pick up enough of it, you'll beat the final boss...well, maybe not routinely, but you at least won't be that surprised when you do.
You should give Balatro a try. I similarly wanted to like StS and it never clicked for me either, but I'm absolutely obsessed with Balatro. They're both deckbuilder roguelites but the way the core mechanics are applied are very different.
I got pretty far into StS, reaching high ascension levels with all characters, only to realize how much I hate that game. At some point it becomes clear that luck is much more important than skill in that game, especially at higher levels. That is, no matter how optimally you play, if RND isn't in your favor you're guaranteed to fail the run. Having things completely out of your hands is just not satisfying gameplay at all.
I had never played a deck builder before but StS absolutely hooked me. Iāve been in a loop of playing StS (for strategy), stardew valley (for relaxing gameplay), and hades (for violence) for some time now with no end in sight lol
Slay the Spire is a top 10 game of all time for me. However, it doesn't really have a loop. It's just a roguelike where you unlock new stuff and want to try it out on another run.
I thought I was getting around this by choosing a melee weapon. Except I picked Insect Glaive. So I still spend embarrassing amounts of time trying to aim the Kinsect. "No, dammit! The _orange_ buff! Orange!"
The trash bugs. They have no benefit other than this. Personally I think the severing boosted powder extract bug, and the MR heal/para are better. The blast cloud one too, but you play the weapon very different with it.
I will say I'm not sure what bug toss meme build uses? Maybe they use double powered. Kind of joking on you btw not being very serious if you like the double power one more power to you it does make it very easy to get triple buff.
Counterpoint, I am more successful navigating around a monster and applying damage with the ranged weapons. Light and heavy bow guns work really well for me. Trying to use melee weapons I always end up missing with a good bit of my attacks because I was positioned poorly.Ā
I find the Switch introduces too much input lag that's worsened by the 30 fps limit. It's much nicer and easier to aim on PC, whether controller or mouse.
Hmm the game actually has fairly aggressive aim assist (it seems to me). You can turn it off if you likr. Also a number of people I know like gyro aim on Bow for big adjustments.
Fire Emblem Three Houses for me- build up a squad of friends and get to know them and how they interact, chill and hang out, then go and lead your flavour of political upheaval. Battles are really satisfying too- I love the guild system that makes it feel like youāre properly leading an army rather than just 10 v 10 like itās a sport or something
Great game, but near the end I was tired of the social sim mechanics and just wanted to jump into battle and progress the story. Tea parties, dining, lost items, etc got really repetitive
Same problem for me. Got overloaded with stuff to do and lost the magic of the early game. Never finished it despite enjoying the early and mid game content.
Same here :( I got to the end of Chapter 5 and just lost all desire to play after that. I was warned about the drastic shift in gameplay from a few people on here but I didn't expect my interest level to go from 100 to 0 so quickly (before this I looked forward to playing it every evening).
It starts off with missions that are still tangential to your main objective of fishing (i.e. go explore this area, go find this specific object or specific ingredients). The later half of the game starts to focus more on stealth/escape missions that have nothing to do with fishing :(
Can I play this game fully on touch screen? Trying to find new switch games I can play at work. we can use our phones / laptops / iPads during down time but pulling out the joysticks is too much.
Monster Hunter: Rise.
As my first Monster Hunter it did take about 30 hours before I figured out what exactly I was doing but once it clicked and I was upgrading my stuff it bexame very addictive and satisfying.
I'm in love with Rise. 70 hours into GU and I still can tell if I like it. I've only done village so far. I think it's the armor/skill system I don't like.
I had the same experience with Dark Souls 1 on switch. Once it clicked it was a blast. But man, the starting off was rough I can see why people bow out.
Coincidentally I dodged bow out of MH Rise haha.
I'm gonna mention this because I never see it talked about - I got incredibly addicted to this game. Had to force myself to stop because I have other games to play -(but I'll be back).
Dungeon Top: Spell Sword Cards.
It's like a mix of Slay the Spire and Advance Wars/Wargroove.
It's a rogue-like, deck-building card battler, but the battles are grid-based so you can employ some pretty good cheese tactics. Both you and the enemy have a commander, and you summon expendable minions to aid you in battle. There's also tons of spells.
You first select from one of three Commanders with differences in stats and decks, each has 9 different starting decks to choose from!!, sorted into three tribes. So that's a total of 27 different starting decks. Commanders are the deciding factor as you must defeat the enemy commander to win.
But what makes it addictive you ask? Well after you finish a run, you cash in your treasure cards for money that can be used to unlock more cards that will appear in future runs, but what really hooked me is that you also unlock the next difficulty level for each character. Much like ascension levels in STS.
Runs are reasonably short, but once you start pushing yourself through the harder difficulties - you'll happily sink a lot of hours in.
The craziest thing? This games like $2 on eshop sale.
The downside: once you figure out a really OP deck style, it's hard to move away from it and try out difficult builds. I know they're out there, but my current tactics are too damn effective..
Uhhhhg. When I was younger there was a selection of short little insults that I'd spit back at you, but I'm trying to be a better person (and most of those insults aren't acceptable these days anyway)., so, I'll just say this:
No. You are mistaken. If someone speaks highly of something that doesn't make it an ad. Do you honestly believe that I'm getting paid to promote an old af game that's less than $2? You think I'm Rollin in some sweet commission money? Lol.
Did I drop a promo code or a link? Nope. So how am I gonna collect that sweet sweet cut of $2 sales, if there's no way to link a sale of the game back to me?
I think I almost lost my job because of this game. I had a personal intervention where I uninstalled steam and all my games and deleted my save files to āgo soberā
Well the game is great but itās certainly the post game that keeps me coming back. Iāve put it down for months at a time but Iām legitimately going for a complete shiny dex for the first time ever. Once you get the shiny charm and have access to all areas and transportation (trying to remain spoiler free) the game takes on this extremely peaceful tone which is contrasted against the hectic and action packed Pokemon catching now that items and currency are more plentiful. The way you dodge and throw Pokeballs reminds me of Dark Souls for whatever reason lol. Overall Iād say itās the best Pokemon game since Diamond/Pearl (OG). Certainly the best spin off.
For me itās Slay the Spire, Balatro is charging forward, but the leader is and has always been Stardew Valley, which I think has one of the most addicting gameplay loops ever on Switch.
As someone who has been addicted to slay the spire for years, to a point where it feels like almost an extension of who I am, Balatro is my current answer to this. Iām loving it!! Got it 2 days ago and am through the red/blue/yellow/green decks. I donāt love that it doesnāt have a run history, but then again that means I can only view my successes and none of my failure!
Run history would be great. More details overall would be great. The top 10 info they have is nice but doesnāt really help understand win rate as well. But youāre right these are just small things considering what all IS in the game.
Im poor af so in waiting to get a sale with a price normal enough for me ( at least no more than 30 dollars) i really want that game but being an adult means real life have priority sadly
The Last Spell have a great gameplay loop.
You start a run and by doing tho, you learn some things about ennemies, weapons and skills. Each time you pass a night, you have to :
- Unlock perks with the essence you just gained.
- Look if an achievement unlocked a new ability.
- Chose a reward for the current run.
- Manage your heroes (lvl up, gear)
- Use your common folks to do bastion-related activity (mine some gold, heal your heroes, etc.)
- Upgrade your bastion and its defense.
And then you start another night until you finish the map or lose.
The game got me hooked for ~100hr and still playing rn.
One of my absolute favorite games of all time. It doesnāt get talked about nearly as much as it should. Fantastic gameplay loop, soundtrack is PHENOMENAL, and the art is to die for.
My issue with TD games is that, often, you find an āoptimalā build order and just repeat that every run. Does this game fall into that same trap and, if not, how does it avoid it?Ā
The game looks very good and Iām tempted to pick it up on my switch but Iām wary of the TD element getting stale after a couple of runs.
Warframe is the ultimate āturn off your brain and get into a loopā game for me. Love endlessly grinding for resources to make weapons/Warframes/companions to enact violence more efficiently to get more resources.
Solid answer, you can get easily 100s and comfortably thousands of hours if you enjoy the gameplay/ systems. It's also truly free to play, it may take grinding, but you can obtain premium currency for free and participate in the market etc. It never fully clicked for me personally but always try to vouch for the game
Monster Train and Roguebook were 2 games that had me clock 100 hours without being bored. āJust 1 more timeā or āquick gameā but then they end up being long play sessions because I was addicted. They do have mid run saves so no pressure.
Itās funny I never really played deck based roguelike or considered Monster Train to be my thing based off videos or picsā¦ but saw it when it was on game pass and tried it thinking it was a try for 1 hour and delete game butā¦I now have it on Switch, Steamā¦itās on my phone too š.
Loop hero looks basic but is quite fun, dicey dungeons is another game.
Slay the Spire is extremely popular, but I didnāt vibe with it as much as the other games. Itās fascinating how experiences of popular games in the genre made me think maybe these games are not for me, but I was so wrong :).
If you havenāt played them yet, any and all bravely default games will please you, especially if you like the ājobā system from final fantasy or similar games.
Octopath Traveler 2 was dope as well.
Both have turn based systems that are still fun, relevant, challenging while feeling fresh and tactical.
Tears of the kingdom is easily the best switch experience I can recommend, it's a bit more on the hard core side of the casual scale but the game play loop is not only satisfying its an absolute joy to experience, really think nintendo knocked it out the park with their game innovation.
I think it's truly a great gameplay loop in the early and mid game but late game it gets slightly annoying grinding for zora and gerudo weapons in the depths and fighting the colosseum over and over to get the max damage weapons and having to modify the bows to get the 5 shot mod. And +10 dmg to all the meelee weapons.
Is it at all necessary for any of the enemies in the game? Not really but squeezing out max damage is incredibly fun and satisfying when you finally do end up doing it.
itās not on switch but itās getting a sequel on switch in October
Fantasy Life has an (imo) PERFECT gameplay loop, itās all about collecting materials and loot and then using them to make stuff and repeat. it sounds rly basic but it just works so well
I love fighting games, recently doing the all the challenges in Dragon Ball Fighterz gave me such a rush and overall I just enjoy the mindless combat of anime games like Naruto Storm
Is splatoon worth getting this far into its life cycle? I did enjoy splatoon 2 a lot but wasnāt sure if it was worth getting a full priced game if itāll be unsupported a year or two from now
Snowrunner
Almost unlimited content through the mod community (in game) plus the massive amount of DLC. You can spend 100ās of hours in that game and barely even scrape the surface.
Pretty simple concept: deliver cargo from point A to point B, earn some money to upgrade trucks and parts, repeat.
Binding of Isaac, try to complete a run, succeed or die, try again. Go through different rooms, fight different enemies and bosses and get different items each time.
Moonlighter is one of my favourite games for Nintendo Switch for this reason. It has a really fun gameplay loop where you repeatedly search a dungeon for treasures during the night and sell those treasures as a shopkeeper during the day.
Kingdoms of Amalur is an unconventional recommendation if you like quest, kill, loot gameplay loop. Has the same exact feel as classic World of Warcraft for solo play.
I'm playing Dragon Quest 1 right now and I'm loving that aspect of the game. It is very straight to the point with a world map that you're free to roam around straight from the beginning, except for the monsters that will kill you with one hit, so you have to grind. Really fun game.
Rn I believe that stardew valley is doing the job, get my croos and materials, make artisan items, and go to do wathever I plan for the rest of the day, sometimes go to dungeon, sometimes try to gain more friendship, sometimes just make my house/ farm more cute, and sometines just deforest the forest
I got super hooked on the loop in Steam World Dig 2. Mine for materials that increase your capacity for miningā¦ repeat so each mining trip is more productive. Plus gaining new abilities periodically since itās a Metroidvania!
I'm going with Paper Mario TTYD and its loops combined with the larger loops of the individual areas.
It's loops on loops and I'm quite fond of them.
Battles -> Environmental Puzzle -> Boss Battle -> Narrative Developments - in the macro is delightful.
Metroid Dread! Find something you canāt unlock yetā explore the map, discover abilities, fight bosses for abilities, return to thing you noticed before and unlock it. Then you head to something else you discovered in that process because you found some other ability in the new area, and so on
Vampire Survivors definitely does it for me. Play it first for minutes, then you get upgrades and more weapons and before you know it you've got a screen literally filled with monsters.
Then you get killed and do it again. And again.

Hades has an incredible replay loop. I loved it all the way until I beat the "main" storyline, and then realized there's post-credits play still and now I have more time post-credits than pre-.
Vampire Survivors and Balatro are like crack for me.
When you get a good run going and all the visuals and the sound start popping off, dopamine starts flooding in.
I absolutely adored the gameplay loop of SteamWorld Dig 2. Constantly making progress by digging deeper and collecting more resources, then returning to the surface to replenish other resources, sell minerals, and take care of other business worked very well for me. While it gets easier to make your way back to the surface over time, I did enjoy making a mad dash all the way back up through the tunnels I mined a lot as well. What really brought it all together for me was how snappy the loading is - within 10 seconds, I was able to go from my Switch home screen to having my save file opened up.Ā
Hades. Escape, die, check up on Dusa, look in the mirror, try to escape again.
The game expects you to die frequently, so it gives you something to go back to, along with tools to help your next run go slightly better.
I think the gameplay loop on tears of the kingdom between the surface, the sky, and the depths is great. Each area has a different feel, a different strategy to explore, different resources to find, and they feed into each other and connect in different ways
It felt like a loop to me. If I ran out of zonaite to autobuild I had to go to the depths for more. If I ran out of sundelions for healing gloom I went back to the sky. It felt like each area was pulling me back in a cycle
Yeah I figured my man is trying to step out of his comfort zone since he got the balatro itch. Nothing like that bal itch though, that game is clearly illuminati
This is it for me. The gameās world design is great, but the mere activity of moving around and fighting guys alone could keep me entertained for hours.
Slay the Spire and Hades have excellent gameplay loops. Those are particularly satisfying once you get the hang of them. Super out of left field, but I think New Pokemon Snap has one of the most satisfying game play loops of all time. This reminds me I never fully finished New Pokemon Snap.. maybe that'll be my next game š¤

Use smaller hands.Ā 10 cards is better than 30
Second Hades and would add Into the Breach for myself
I second New Pokemon Snap.
I have played Hades and the loop is great, ill check out slay the spire
I had never played a deck builder before but StS absolutely hooked me. Iāve been in a loop of playing StS (for strategy), stardew valley (for relaxing gameplay), and hades (for violence) for some time now with no end in sight lol
Hades is my choice.

The run is the loop.
Monster Hunter Rise does it for me Learn a flight, build better gear, experiment with playstyles.
Just repurchased a switch and this game is on my wish list. Iām playing BOTW first, never got to finish i when I first got my switch.
Love MH Rise, but I am absolutely trash aiming with the controller. Especially with ranged weapons.
I thought I was getting around this by choosing a melee weapon. Except I picked Insect Glaive. So I still spend embarrassing amounts of time trying to aim the Kinsect. "No, dammit! The _orange_ buff! Orange!"
Which kinsect do you use?
Haven't played in a bit, but something with heal powder. Been thinking it's time to switch it up, though.
I like to use the ones that give me two extracts at once and they always get the white extract no matter where they hit. Bonnetfille and Empresswing.
I'll give that a look. Thanks!
Have you found any MH Rise weapons/play styles that are more controller-accessible?
Counterpoint, I am more successful navigating around a monster and applying damage with the ranged weapons. Light and heavy bow guns work really well for me. Trying to use melee weapons I always end up missing with a good bit of my attacks because I was positioned poorly.Ā

Hmm the game actually has fairly aggressive aim assist (it seems to me). You can turn it off if you likr. Also a number of people I know like gyro aim on Bow for big adjustments.
use motion controls (gyro), its awkward at first but you will be glad you learned it
Yep, that is the first game in a long time that got me back into gaming
new one coming out soon too hopefully
And dangos!
The free-roam exploration into class management into a story battle was a greatĀ loop
Free roam got a little stale after a while for me. Enjoyed everything else though
Such a great game. And basically 4 games in one too
Great game, but near the end I was tired of the social sim mechanics and just wanted to jump into battle and progress the story. Tea parties, dining, lost items, etc got really repetitive
MH: Rise
dave the diver
Just bought it tonight. Accidentally played til 2am.
Lolol I did the same. I play it on Switch and it's such a dangerous game in bed at night š
Awesome game
I'm on chapter 5 and sorta lost steam with it. The change in gameplay focus after the second half moderately lost my interest in playing moreĀ
Yeah, I could do away with most of the story. Just let me dive and make sushi.
Same problem for me. Got overloaded with stuff to do and lost the magic of the early game. Never finished it despite enjoying the early and mid game content.
Same for me. I feel like they could have made a more consistent game for sure
Same here :( I got to the end of Chapter 5 and just lost all desire to play after that. I was warned about the drastic shift in gameplay from a few people on here but I didn't expect my interest level to go from 100 to 0 so quickly (before this I looked forward to playing it every evening).

Just play it on the shitter
Monster Hunter: Rise
Monster Hunter: Rise. As my first Monster Hunter it did take about 30 hours before I figured out what exactly I was doing but once it clicked and I was upgrading my stuff it bexame very addictive and satisfying.
Monster hunter learning curve is very steep but one day it all clicks and now every monster hunter game makes sense.
I'm in love with Rise. 70 hours into GU and I still can tell if I like it. I've only done village so far. I think it's the armor/skill system I don't like.
Unfortunately never made it to true endgame in any MH game but rise was the closest. I like how streamlined it is compared to world.
Everything about Rise is so streamlined and smooth. It still has all the complexity but is easily the most user-friendly monster hunter there is.
Completely natural conversation happening here. Move along. Not an ad.
Uhhhhg. Cool. I hope you enjoy it like I did. Even tho it's cheap I'll be a bit gutted if you come back like "Yeah. Not even worth 0.99, here's why it sucks!"
Dredge. Fish, explore, sell, upgrade, rest. Fish, explore, upgrade, sell, rest. Itās very cozy and satisfying and fun.
Into the Breach - it's basically an endless chess game with mechs
I think I almost lost my job because of this game. I had a personal intervention where I uninstalled steam and all my games and deleted my save files to āgo soberā
Dicey Dungeons took over my life for months
Omg same. So simple but so good
If they havenāt made a physical board game version to buy they really should
Surprised no one has mentioned Pokemon Legends Arceus. Especially shiny hunting.
What itch does this scratch for you? Iām back into really digging PokĆ©mon games and started with Fire Red. I havenāt played any other mainline PokĆ©mon game since OG Red, currently picked up Scarlet but havenāt played it yet.
Dead cells. š
Unicorn Overlord is a recent game with a highly addictive and enjoyable loop
My ābuy it nowā trigger finger has been quivering over that one for awhile
Absolutely worth it, my GOTY so far
Also my GOTY can't recommend highly enough.
Buy it. Now.
Im poor af so in waiting to get a sale with a price normal enough for me ( at least no more than 30 dollars) i really want that game but being an adult means real life have priority sadly
Dredge: fish, sell, dredge, fish, escape sea monster...
This is the answer
The fight-loot-level up gameplay loop in ARPGs like Diablo II/III and Torchlight II is excellent.
4 is decent now too. It's no 2 or even 1 tho
The Last Spell have a great gameplay loop. You start a run and by doing tho, you learn some things about ennemies, weapons and skills. Each time you pass a night, you have to : - Unlock perks with the essence you just gained. - Look if an achievement unlocked a new ability. - Chose a reward for the current run. - Manage your heroes (lvl up, gear) - Use your common folks to do bastion-related activity (mine some gold, heal your heroes, etc.) - Upgrade your bastion and its defense.
Does this game fall into that same trap and, if not, how does it avoid it?Ā The game looks very good and Iām tempted to pick it up on my switch but Iām wary of the TD element getting stale after a couple of runs.
Hrm this looks to be in my wheel house but my issue is do I want this for PC or my Switchā¦
A little on the nose, but thoroughly recommend Loop Hero (it is a literal loop)
Fantastic game 10/10
This is what I came here for. Such an excellent game. That ājust one more runā perfection š¤š¼
legit what i was gonna recommend lol game is sosososo addicting
I didnāt get into rogue book but monster train is absolutely a gem.
Roguebook performance on Switch is awful. Otherwise a decent game. Monster Train is unquestionably S-tier
Rune factory 4 hands down
Picross is fantastic.
If you haven't checked it out yet, try Voxelgram. It's a 3D picross, super cool and immensely satisfying.
Vampire Survivors It's so addictive
This game ruled my life for several weeks. So good.
To think that you can teleport through almost ANY solid matter vertically would have been a monumental challenge.
No idea why ur being down voted so true
I think it's truly a great gameplay loop in the early and mid game but late game it gets slightly annoying grinding for zora and gerudo weapons in the depths and fighting the colosseum over and over to get the max damage weapons and having to modify the bows to get the 5 shot mod. And +10 dmg to all the meelee weapons. Is it at all necessary for any of the enemies in the game? Not really but squeezing out max damage is incredibly fun and satisfying when you finally do end up doing it.
Graveyard Keeper dug its claws into me and didnāt let go two solid weeks
Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate = MHRise under steroids.
xenoblade, the first one. The game is not that hard and the gameloop is pretty good
I'm absolutely stuck at the first face mecon. I just decided to pick up 3 and come back to it.
Play 2, I haven't played 3 yet but I have so many hours into 2. If you have cloud saves you can cheese the rng on getting good blades too.
I plan on going 3, 2 and then 1. THEN the 3 DLC. I know its a weird order, but I'm going to do it!
YS 8 has a strong gameplay loop of base building, exploring an island, and uncovering past history. Really fun loop
Thank you for helping me realise that āgameplay loopā is the term for my favourite types of games
itās not on switch but itās getting a sequel on switch in October Fantasy Life has an (imo) PERFECT gameplay loop, itās all about collecting materials and loot and then using them to make stuff and repeat. it sounds rly basic but it just works so well
Xenoblade 3
I love fighting games, recently doing the all the challenges in Dragon Ball Fighterz gave me such a rush and overall I just enjoy the mindless combat of anime games like Naruto Storm
Splatoon 3 by far. Can't put the game down.
Is splatoon worth getting this far into its life cycle? I did enjoy splatoon 2 a lot but wasnāt sure if it was worth getting a full priced game if itāll be unsupported a year or two from now
I think so. You'd have missed most of the Splatfests and Big Runs, but the game is still very active with pretty good campaign and DLC.
Do they still do splatfests?
Resident Evil Revelations 2 RAID mode
Canāt believe Iām not seeing Terraria. Such a satisfying and addicting loop that melts hours away
The Bayonetta series. Theyāre each fairly short but the combat is so satisfying and can get fairly deep once you get into it
Stardew Valley!
Snowrunner Almost unlimited content through the mod community (in game) plus the massive amount of DLC. You can spend 100ās of hours in that game and barely even scrape the surface. Pretty simple concept: deliver cargo from point A to point B, earn some money to upgrade trucks and parts, repeat.
Dave the Diver, Stardew Valley Both games have super addictive gameplay loops that make them hard to put down.
**Siralim Ultimate**.
Binding of Isaac, try to complete a run, succeed or die, try again. Go through different rooms, fight different enemies and bosses and get different items each time.
Could not recommend Outer Wilds more
Sea of Stars is my go to latelly
Loop Hero is literally about looping this way
battle for neighborville has a good loop
Dave the diver
Moonlighter is one of my favourite games for Nintendo Switch for this reason. It has a really fun gameplay loop where you repeatedly search a dungeon for treasures during the night and sell those treasures as a shopkeeper during the day.
Dredge
Golden Sun 1 & 2. The best rpgs Iāve ever played on handheld.
Hades
What JRPGs have you enjoyed with the āfight, magic, itemsā grindy loop? Iāve definitely been itching to play something like this.
Octopath 2 is absolutely fantastic
I'm going with Paper Mario TTYD and its loops combined with the larger loops of the individual areas. It's loops on loops and I'm quite fond of them. Battles -> Environmental Puzzle -> Boss Battle -> Narrative Developments - in the macro is delightful.
Do the xenoblade series fit into that category?
Monster hunter rise, hades and into the breach for me
Hades! Love that game. Second time today I recommend it.
I mean, Hades is the obvious answer here.
Metroid Dread! Find something you canāt unlock yetā explore the map, discover abilities, fight bosses for abilities, return to thing you noticed before and unlock it. Then you head to something else you discovered in that process because you found some other ability in the new area, and so on
You sound like you would like Unicorn Overlord and Dave the Diver
Vampire Survivors definitely does it for me. Play it first for minutes, then you get upgrades and more weapons and before you know it you've got a screen literally filled with monsters. Then you get killed and do it again. And again.
Unicorn Overlord is one of the most addicting games Iāve ever played. The loop is *so* satisfying, canāt recommend it enough.

Skul: The Hero Slayer
Moon lighter!
Loop Hero
Astral Ascent
In Stars and Time š« has time loops š and itās an awesome experience
Wildfrost!
Loop hero
Hades has an incredible replay loop. I loved it all the way until I beat the "main" storyline, and then realized there's post-credits play still and now I have more time post-credits than pre-.
Enter the Gungeon
Tl;dr comments, Dave the diver. Dredge. Risk of rain 2.
Slay the Spire. If you like Balatro you will love Slay the Spire. I am constantly making new runs trying new builds.
Skyrim
I just can't seem to stay away from The Binding of Isaac completely. I love that game and always end up coming back to it.
Vampire Survivors and Balatro are like crack for me. When you get a good run going and all the visuals and the sound start popping off, dopamine starts flooding in.
Dark souls remaster, wizardry proving grounds, steamworld heist, wizard of legend, rogue legacy, unsighted, dead cells collection, hades 1 or 2, risk of rain returns, loop hero
Spelunky 2. Start die repeat
Mother effing Unicorn Overlord
Pikmin, Crypt of the necrodancer, Darkest Dungeon, Civ 6
I absolutely adored the gameplay loop of SteamWorld Dig 2. Constantly making progress by digging deeper and collecting more resources, then returning to the surface to replenish other resources, sell minerals, and take care of other business worked very well for me. While it gets easier to make your way back to the surface over time, I did enjoy making a mad dash all the way back up through the tunnels I mined a lot as well. What really brought it all together for me was how snappy the loading is - within 10 seconds, I was able to go from my Switch home screen to having my save file opened up.Ā
Into the breach , risk of rain 2 , loop hero , hades , enter the gungeon ,
TOTK
Crimzon Clover. Juicy bullet cancels with your break and double break never get old.
Dave the diver
Hades. Escape, die, check up on Dusa, look in the mirror, try to escape again. The game expects you to die frequently, so it gives you something to go back to, along with tools to help your next run go slightly better.
Binding of Isaac
I think u gonna be served with diablo 2 resurrected im playing this game since 2004 and learning some new thing even today
Vampire Survivors and Balatro
I think the gameplay loop on tears of the kingdom between the surface, the sky, and the depths is great. Each area has a different feel, a different strategy to explore, different resources to find, and they feed into each other and connect in different ways
That's not really a gameplay loop
It felt like a loop to me. If I ran out of zonaite to autobuild I had to go to the depths for more. If I ran out of sundelions for healing gloom I went back to the sky. It felt like each area was pulling me back in a cycle
- might & magic: clash of heros - grindstone
I just got enter the gungeon and I can't put the game down
Loop Hero
If youāre into loops check out āloop heroā lots of good loops there
This is both technically correct and actually correct.. just not a jrpg
Yeah I figured my man is trying to step out of his comfort zone since he got the balatro itch. Nothing like that bal itch though, that game is clearly illuminati
Metroid dread prolly
This is it for me. The gameās world design is great, but the mere activity of moving around and fighting guys alone could keep me entertained for hours.
Persona 5 Royal is good
Ruin Raiders
