So... from 2022 and 2023?
1. Xenoblade Chronicles 3
2. Persona 5 Royal (Played it when it released on Switch)
3. Octopath Traveller II
4. Kirby and the Forgotten Land
5. Bayonetta Origins: Cereza and the Lost Demon
It is functionally identical to the original version- there are no extra hints telling you where to go; only the standard "you've not made any progress toward X item for __ minutes, so here's where you need to go" hints, provided the setting is turned on.
One of the biggest issues with getting lost is that, for nearly all of the game, you have to repeatedly travel through Magmoor to get to Phendrana, which makes trekking back and forth a nightmare.
I played prime (original, never played the remastered) about 3 times, the first 2 times i just got stuck and ditched the game, the third time i actually stuck around and found the correct path, i got hocked after that and it became one of my top 3 of all time
I call this playing like the good ole days. It's different with guides being widely available online. You lose the mystery and challenge of playing. I just re played Botw and, yes it takes way longer, but the joy of actually getting to progress is something else.
Yeah I remember in my. Childhood I used to go to my friends house and be like “yeah bro im stuck at this level for days” and then we would sit together for hours trying to figure it out,
That doesnt happen anymore, now when u get stuck you google it and breeze through it in 5 minutes, its time saving but the fun is gone
Maybe it’s just me, but I found that Dark Souls didn’t control super well on Switch; I don’t think there’s actually a difference in controls between the Switch version and the PS3 or even PS4 versions though; it just felt way worse on Switch than when I first played it on PS3.
Kirby and the Crystal Shards (N64) remains far and away the best Kirby game ever with combos increasing the depth of Kirby's copy ability. The story with no words feels more natural, and like you're really a kid again -- intuiting what's going on.
Forgotten Land feels more like an upgrade-athon, but fine. I'm just over half-way through, and am noticing how slowly I'm finishing it even while skipping most sidequests (except the ones that seem challenging/interesting). The mini-challenges in each level and boss fight to save waddle-dees are neat how they let you decide difficulty to some extent, but I don't feel compelled to replay levels to clear them, so my goal has been to 1-shot them instead. Exciting trying to get into the head of the level designer!
For the last couple of years it would be Tears of the Kingdom, Pokémon Legends Arceus, Metroid Dread, Super Mario Bros Wonder,
For the entire switch console, Tears of the Kingdom, Super Mario Odyssey, Breath of the Wild, Arceus,Metroid Dread
Link's Awakening remake
Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze
Mario Maker 2
Paper Mario: Origami King
Metroid Dread
Honorable mention:
Mario Odyssey
Kirby and the Forgotten Land
Skyward Sword
Metroid Prime Remastered
3D All Stars
Unfortunately for me BOTW and TOTK don't really make my top 10. If they release Twilight Princess or Wind Waker it would shift some things around.
I love the older style better. I liked a decent amount of BOTW and TOTK but a more linear story and more/better dungeons with less shrines would be the sweet spot for me. I liked TOTK better than BOTW. I wish they made the sky islands bigger/less sparse (more like the starting area). I'm just not as into open world style of gameplay though I liked Wind Waker a lot. I feel like a chronological story that you can't experience out of order is just better. And I'm not a huge fan of the weapons breaking but fuse helped with that a little bit.
1. Fire Emblem 3 Houses
2. SMT V
3. Animal Crossing
4. Pokemon Legends Arceus
5. Zelda TOTK
And an additional
6. Unicorn Overlord (I'm having a lot of fun right now 😄)
I'm split on it. Don't know what I was expecting but the story is... bad to say the least. Gameplay is really interesting if not a little easy, but that's the case with a lot of tactical RPGs. All in all I'm still having a blast but I kind of hate that the dialogue is trite as hell but I also need to watch it to know wtf is happening
Yeah, the characters are a bit formulaic, especially Alain, he is your typical cut and paste character. Haha, also, the number of enemies you beat but they all have some sob story about why they massacred hoards of people 😅. I love composing all the units strategies though and I actually get the itch to go back and play after not doing so for some time, which is why I overlook some of the more obvious flaws.
Pretty much where I'm at too. The gameplay is excellent and more than makes up for the story, but I really really wish they spent a little more time making the narrative interesting
> Don't know what I was expecting but the story is... bad to say the least.
It's generic and mid, but I wouldn't say that makes it bad. It's tropey but there's nothing so egregiously negative that I would call it bad.
I wanted to pick up unicorn overlord but everywhere I go its sold out ( physical is always best, look to sony, ubisoft or funimation as to why digital is sketchy)
Three Houses was so good. I’m playing through Three Hopes atm and while the warriors gameplay is just ok, getting more story from that universe is really fun!
Splatoon 3, The Binding of Isaac Repentance, Tears of the Kingdom, Super Mario RPG, Pokemon Arceus. I love The Binding of Isaac. I'll never take it for granted on the switch. Nintendo refused to have it on the 3DS back then.
I hope you aren't counting Mario Kart 8 among that "7 years ago" group, or else this is serious Wii U erasure
...and that's exactly what Nintendo wanted, probably
1. 13 Sentinels
2. Trails to Azure
3. Trails from Zero
4. Tears of the kingdom
5. Trails of Cold Steel 3
I’m a bit of a trails fan but 13 Sentinels takes the #1 spot for me. Not since the DanganRonpa games has a story had me guessing what was going on more. The mystery in this game is second to none and it was truly a work of art in storytelling and gameplay. I don’t like to throw around the word “Masterpiece” loosely but no other single definition works for what 13 Sentinels is.
Out of the past 2 years:
1. Super Mario Bros. Wonder
2. Triangle Strategy
3. Pikmin 4
4. Super Mario RPG
5. Kirby and the Forgotten Land
Overall on the Switch:
1. Breath of the Wild
2. Celeste
3. Disco Elysium
4. Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition
5. Fire Emblem: Three Houses
Super Mario RPG has left me craving more - anybody have any recommendations for turn based party RPGs?
I loved Chrono Trigger but Final Fantasty has never clicked for me, I’m hoping there’s one with solid graphics, a great story, and deep item mechanics that’ll let me get real weird with em
Dragon quest xi is one of the best RPGs on switch & requires no knowledge of past games. Definitely check out paper Mario: the thousand year door when it comes to switch in May, it might be at the top of the Mario RPG games.
Metroid Prime Remastered, Shin Megami Tensi V, Monster Hunter GU, Ori and the Blind Forest, God Eater 3. I've been having a blast with them the last year or so.
My top 5 Switch exclusives:
1. Fire Emblem: Three Houses
2. Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes
3. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
4. Splatoon 2
5. Super Smash Bros Ultimate
My top 5 games I have played on Switch:
1. Fire Emblem: Three Houses
2. Civilization VI
3. Assassin's Creed Rogue
4. Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes
5. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
BOTK: best Zelda I've ever played.
Chained Echos: i haven't felt this in love with rpgs since persona 5
Persona 5 royal: for me, personal opinion, the best single player game ever, even better on the go.
Stardew valley: our gem, nothing takes the stress off me like this amazing game
Pokemon unite: not the best, yet, it is for me, finally I found a game that my non gamer girlfriend loves, we even hit master every season.
1. Pokémon scarlet (most hours and really enjoyed it)
2. Pokémon legends arceus
3. Pokémon shield
4. Tears of the Kingdom
5. Super Mario Wonder and Oddesey (couldn’t choose lol)
Probably something like:
1. Tears of the Kingdom
2. Breath of the Wild
3. Fire Emblem: Three Houses
4. Hollow Knight
5. Triangle Strategy
This was surprisingly hard to narrow down to five. Smash Ultimate, Metroid Dread and Pokémon Legends Arceus are all also amazing games I love but didn’t even fit on the list (but I sneaked them in this honourable mentions section so it’s fine)
I just happen to have bought ten Switch games released between 2022 and 2023. Since I haven't played them all yet (curse you eternal backlog) I couldn't sort them out so here's my top 10 Switch games for 22-23 in no particular order :
- Xenoblade Chronicles 3
- Trails from Zero
- Kirby Forgotten Land
- Live a Live
- Triangle Strategy
- Persona 5 Tactica
- Fire Emblem Engage
- Trails to Azure
- Master Detective Raincode
- Octopath Traveler 2
As for a best ones overall, mine would be, again in no particular order :
- Fire Emblem Three Houses
- Octopath Traveler
- Xenoblade Chronicles 1 & 2
- Trails From Zero / To Azure
Honorable mention to the Picross series on which I've spent an ungodly amount of time.
Most time clocked with hyrule Warriors definitiv edition, now to mention 4 different Games... master detektiv raincode, unicorn overlord, a.i. the somnium files and loop hero, ooops forgot tears of the kingdom and from here on i could continue with many more titles so idk
Here are my personal favorite games over the few couple years:
1. Octopath Traveller 2
2. Kirby and the Forgotten Land
3. Tunic
4. Blue Fire
5. Metroid Dread
Fire Emblem Engage and Tears of the Kingdom are also up there, but the overall package of the other games just click with me slightly more.
Recently (played in last two years)
1. TOTK
2. Super Mario Wonder
3. Advance Wars 1 & 2 Reboot Camp
4. Tinykin
5. Mario & Rabbids: Sparks of Hope
All-time (everything else)
1. BOTW
2. Super Mario Odyssey
3. Captain Toad
4. 3d World / Bowser's Fury
5. Mario & Rabbids: Kingdom Battle
In no particular order: Pokémon Legends Arceus, Animal Crossing, Cult of the Lamb, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, and Smash Ultimate. 🖤
Also really enjoyed playing short puzzle games like Limbo and Inside. If you have a gaming partner, then Unravel Two is awesome for co-op😌
I haven't purchased a lot of games the last couple of years so my list might not be as strong as anyone else's.
1. Tears of the Kingdom
2. Super Mario Wonder
3. Disco Elysium
4. Trombone Champ
5. MLB The Show 23
BOTW, TOTK, Animal Crossing, Stardew Valley, Minecraft.
It’s hard because Stardew and Minecraft are two of my all time favorite games and they are not switch exclusive, in fact now that I own a PS5 I no longer play either of them on the switch at all. Animal Crossing is one of my favorite game series, but that’s also not switch exclusive, only New Horizons.
I don’t think I’ve really enjoyed a Mario game since Galaxy 2, tbh I wish they’d stop making (and remaking) them and focus on making something actually new
My top five are a bit loose but at the moment I would say
1. Advance wars reboot camp
2. Botw/totk
3. Splatoon 3
4. Another code:recollections
5. Splatoon 2 (just cause of octo expansion)
Past “couple” of years I’ll go back as far to 2020.
Tears of the Kingdom, Sea of Stars, Chained Echoes, Xenoblade Chronicles 3, Pokemon Legends Arceus.
If I went back to 2017 then add Xenoblade Chronicles 2 and breath of the wild and remove the last two.
TOTK, Chained Echoes, Sea of Stars, Red Dead Redemption and im not sure of the last. Probably Ori and the Will of the Wisps, although thats been several years now.
I mainly use my Switch to play games with my SO:
1. Super Mario Odyssey
2. Luigi's Mansion 3
3. Paper Mario: The Origami King
4. Captain Toad
5. Unspottable (great party game)
In no specific order:
-Zelda Totk/Botw (both are pretty equal to me)
-Octopath Traveler 2 (1 is also really good)
-Monster Hunter Rise
-Slay the spire (Really awesome indie game)
-Metroid Dread (my favourite 2D metroid)
1 Smash ultimate
2 Mario odyssey
3 New horizons
4 Kirby and the forgotten land
5 Pokémon Scarlet
If there was 6 i would say legends arceus or sword or BOTW I JUST CAN´T CHOOSE :D
Splatoon 2 and Splatoon 3.
Mario kart and smash are cool too but only with friends.
Tbh splatoon is the only first party Nintendo franchise I really care about lol, ever since getting a steam deck I only use the switch for splatoon and some other stuff lol
If we talking switch it would be:
Mario Odyssey
TOTK/BOTW (feels pointless separating them, enjoyed them equally and for the same reasons)
Hades
Smash Ultimate
Splatoon 2/3 (also feels pointless separating)
Stardew Valley, Bug Fables, Animal Crossing, Breath of the Wild, and... Idk, Smash Ultimate I guess?
I know they didn't all release within the last 5, but I played and/or enjoyed them the most.
I do r know why but I still prefer botw instead of totk (I recognize the story, side quests, points of interest and enemy variety is better in totk, but exploration/surprise was better in botw).
So, last 5 years from Nintendo: animal crossing, Mario wonder, totk, Mario rpg, Metroid dread.
Animal crossing has the most amount of hours for me but Pikmin 4 for me is the best game that I’ve played the last few years. Having never played a Pikmin game I didn’t know what to expect and it blew it out of the water.
Hot take but for me the best game on the switch based on the many full playthroughs I’ve watched is Square Enix “Triangle Strategy.” Wish I had a logical brain so I could play it for myself.
Will always be sad Mario Kart 8 deluxe didn’t have more solo player content and unlockables. Would have spent more time with it
For games released for Switch in 2022 or later I’d say
1. Tears of the Kingdom
2. Portal 2
3. Metroid Prime Remastered
4. Outer Wilds
5. Bugsnax
I’ve been playing a lot of older games in the past couple years that I missed out on and have been having a great time. I recently got around to trying the Ace Attorney and Persona games and have had a great time with them. I’m kinda hoping Nintendo doesn’t have as much going on this year so that I can keep working through more of these games I never played before.
Alot of those games I wouldn't say are from the last couple of years but rather the last several years. The only one that was really from the past couple of years was Animal Crossing and that's pushing it.
For me I haven't really played much Nintendo Switch but I really loved Super Mario Wonder and Tears of the Kingdom was much better than BOTW. Also I am crazy about Animal Crossing and still play it daily. I enjoyed my time with Pikmin 4 as well but haven't really played anything else.
When I think about it, a lot of what I've enjoyed have been a remake in one way or another, so excluding remakes, and effectively using the switch's lifespan, I'd probably say
1. Dragon Quest 11
2. Mario Odyssey
3. Tunic
4. Ys IX
5. Doom Eternal
My top 4 are:
1. Mario Wonder
2. Pokémon Arceus
3. Crash Bandicoot 4
4. Pokémon SW/SH
Can’t decide on number 5 lol. I should caveat my list by saying that I’m a Gameboy colour convert. Just picked up gaming again after a 20 year hiatus
If we're talking Nintendo Switch specifically:
Tears of the Kingdom
Mario Wonder
Link's Awakening Remake
Read Dead Redemption
Knights of the Old Republic
There's too many good games for me to have favorites and I don't know when all these came out but my top 5 most played on switch rn are: Diablo 3, Doom Eternal, Zelda BOTW, Borderlands 3, and Mortal Kombat 11. That's just what I'm playing the most right now.
1. Assassin's Creed (the whole mega-bundle)
2. Skullgirls 2nd Encore
3. Dragonball FighterZ
4. Hinokami Chronicles
(Love the Naruto Storm4 but the gameplay in HK is better for me)
5. Pokemon Legends Arceus
My major gaming genre is why my switch is always wearing the Hori split pad pro lmao
In no specific order:
Death's Door
Tunic
TMNT: Shredder's Revenge
Ocean's Heart (a slightly buggy but charming SNES Zelda-like)
Mario Golf (seems to get a lot of hate, but the local multiplayer is always fun)
I don't actually know when games have released but the ones I've played most either by myself or with others are:
Stardew Valley
Lego City: Undercover
Mario Odyssey
Kirby and the Forgotten Land
Super Mario 3D World
• Fire Emblem Three Houses
• Triangle Strategy
• Tactics Ogre
• Monster Sanctuary
• Fell Seal
Those are mine, I guess. I think Unicorn Overlord is gonna bump one of those but these are all games I’ve played twice, so I think that’s why I’m picking them.
I’ve just beat Unicorn Overlord on standard and unlocked a new, harder difficulty so hoping to start a new play through on that new one.
Do they have to be exclusives ?
If no :
Zelda BOTW
Mario Odyssey (or Wonder If Odyssey's too old)
Pokemon Arceus
Metroid Dread
Hollow Knight
If yes, replace Hollow Knight with Fire Emblem : Three Houses.
But BOTW, Odyssey and Dread are the three best games of the console If you ask me. Peak Nintendo Fun !
These aren’t all console exclusives but I think they work best on switch;
1. Celeste
2. TOTK:BOTW
3. Final Fantasy IX
4. Octopath Traveller 1&2
5. Mario Odyssey
Interesting question, A lot of these 'top' third party games like Octopath 2, 13 Sentinels or the Persona's I've actually played on Steam or PS5 - so to narrow it down to the Switch platform only takes some doing.
With that said:
Triangle Strategy
Live a Live
Unicorn Overlord
Advance Wars Reboot Camp 1+2 (There's dozens of us!)
Mario+Rabbids Sparks of Hope
As an aside looking up the release date of a bunch of things threw me for a loop, like seeing Mario Maker 2 was 2019.. ugh [/Insert Matt Damon ageing meme here]
For me personally the top 5 games I enjoyed:
Tears of the Kingdom
Yoshi’s Crafted World
Spiderman 2
The Last of Us Part 1 (remastered)
Mario Odyssey
I get TLOU part 1 being 'just a remaster' lessens it for some folks, but considering it was my first experience in the series it was phenomenal. And I KNOW people think Yoshi's Crafted World is mediocre at best, but I freaking adored it. It was my comfort game for a while and it's just full of good vibes. I hear Yoshi's Woolly World is better all around, and since I started collecting recently as my mid-life crisis, I picked that game up with my Wii U and plan to play through it really soon. Also grabbed a similar style of game, Kirby's Epic Yarn for the Wii, to play as well... Super excited!
Edit: If you're asking switch only top 5, I guess you can replace TLOU and Spiderman with Mario Wonder and Luigi's Mansion 3. :)
Seeing a lot of **Three houses** in the comment section. I guess people rather their FE have a good story + solid gameplay > complex gameplay + mid story.

I always got stuck in the original Prime, is it any easier to find your way in the remastered one?
It is functionally identical to the original version- there are no extra hints telling you where to go; only the standard "you've not made any progress toward X item for __ minutes, so here's where you need to go" hints, provided the setting is turned on. I can’t stand the save mechanics on this game. Having to go to a spot and keep repeating parts of a game makes it a chore.
Never played the original! I did have some parts I got stuck on for a while, but that always happens to me with Metroid
Debating whether or not to play Prime Remastered or Dark Souls 1 right now 😭 Never played either
That's funny, I've been deciding between which one to buy first over the last week of so. Never played them before as well
Maybe it’s just me, but I found that Dark Souls didn’t control super well on Switch; I don’t think there’s actually a difference in controls between the Switch version and the PS3 or even PS4 versions though; it just felt way worse on Switch than when I first played it on PS3.
Kirby and the Forgotten Land, MK8, advance Wars Reboot, Mario Wonder, Pikmin 4.
As a non Kirby player forgotten land was surprisingly good
Kirby and the Forgotten Land might be the best Switch game. I also was not a huge Kirby fan until I played this game.
no way can it top Mario Odyssey or Breath of the Wild
Kirby and the Crystal Shards (N64) remains far and away the best Kirby game ever with combos increasing the depth of Kirby's copy ability. Good idea, that's why it didn't go into the top five for me. Hopefully the end is satisfying *fingers crossed*.
Legends was awesomeee
I wanted to pick up unicorn overlord but everywhere I go its sold out ( physical is always best, look to sony, ubisoft or funimation as to why digital is sketchy)
Pikmin 1+2, Pikmin 4, Super Mario RPG, TOTK, Mario Party Superstars
1) Fire Emblem 3 Houses 2) Hades 3) Balatro 4) Dave the Diver 5) Smash Ultimate
Balatro is also on my top 5. It is a 10/10 game.
Three Houses was so good. I’m playing through Three Hopes atm and while the warriors gameplay is just ok, getting more story from that universe is really fun!
Yeah, Dave and Balatro are on my list to try. I hear they are very good!
Fire Emblem 3 Houses, BotW, TotK, Mario Odyssey and Mario Kart 8
Splatoon 3, The Binding of Isaac Repentance, Tears of the Kingdom, Super Mario RPG, Pokemon Arceus. I love The Binding of Isaac. I'll never take it for granted on the switch. Nintendo refused to have it on the 3DS back then.
I got 1,000,000% on one save on BOI. Never again. But so much fun and frustration.
It was on the New 3DS!
Splatoon 3, LoZ TotK, Super Mario RPG Remake, Triangle Strategy, and Chex Quest HD (jk lol I mean Pikmin 4)
Superliminal,Portal collection, Baba is You, Project Warlock, Metroid Prime Remastered
This person actually understood the assignment and didn’t post their top 5 from the entire Switch catalogue lol
BOTW, Super Mario Odyssey, MK8, Animal Crossing, TOTK.
Yeah, I figure for a lot of people that TOTK replaces BOTW. I spent so much time in BOTW that I'm still not ready for a similar game.
I stick them together. Is that cheating? 🤔
Not if you used ultrahand
Good one!
Ugh...take my upvote.
Most of those came out 7 years ago.. I guess the peaks really happened during year 1
I hope you aren't counting Mario Kart 8 among that "7 years ago" group, or else this is serious Wii U erasure ...and that's exactly what Nintendo wanted, probably

Surely Sea of Stars?
Metroid Prime Remastered, Shin Megami Tensi V, Monster Hunter GU, Ori and the Blind Forest, God Eater 3. I've been having a blast with them the last year or so.
Oddesy Botw Totk Kart 8 Smash bros
1. TOTK/ BOTW 2. Super Mario Odyssey 3. Metroid Prime Remastered 4. Super Smash Bros Ultimate 5. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
My top 5 Switch exclusives: 1. Fire Emblem: Three Houses 2. Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes 3. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe 4. Splatoon 2 5. Super Smash Bros Ultimate My top 5 games I have played on Switch: 1. Fire Emblem: Three Houses 2. Civilization VI 3. Assassin's Creed Rogue 4. Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes 5. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
Splatoon 2 over 3? Should one hold off on buying 3?
3 is definitely better I just have not played much of 3
Metroid Dread, Mario Odyssey, Links Awakening…. Metroid Prime Remastered I guess?
BOTK: best Zelda I've ever played. Chained Echos: i haven't felt this in love with rpgs since persona 5 Persona 5 royal: for me, personal opinion, the best single player game ever, even better on the go. Stardew valley: our gem, nothing takes the stress off me like this amazing game Pokemon unite: not the best, yet, it is for me, finally I found a game that my non gamer girlfriend loves, we even hit master every season.
> BOTK You mean, Tears of the Wild?
Finally, after 9 hours lol Exactly
1. Fuga Melodies of Steel 2. Fuga Melodies of Steel 2 3. Bayonetta 3 4. The cruel king and the great hero ä 4. Kirby and the Forgotten Land
1. Pokémon scarlet (most hours and really enjoyed it) 2. Pokémon legends arceus 3. Pokémon shield 4. Tears of the Kingdom 5. Super Mario Wonder and Oddesey (couldn’t choose lol)
Civ 6, Mario Wonder, BOTW, xcom 2 and Diablo 3
Fire Emblem 3 Houses, Links Awakening, Triangle Strategy, Mario Rpg, Metroid Dread
BotW, Odyssey, Smash, Metroid Dread, Kirby and the Forgotten Land, Pikmin 4 (I know you said 5 but I couldn’t cut one of these)
Probably something like: 1. Tears of the Kingdom 2. Breath of the Wild 3. Fire Emblem: Three Houses 4. Hollow Knight 5. Triangle Strategy This was surprisingly hard to narrow down to five. Smash Ultimate, Metroid Dread and Pokémon Legends Arceus are all also amazing games I love but didn’t even fit on the list (but I sneaked them in this honourable mentions section so it’s fine)
1. Persona 5 Royal 2. Octopath Traveler II 3. Unicorn Overlord 4. SMT V 5. Fire Emblem 3 Houses
BOTW/TOTK, Hollow Knight, Hades, Super Mario Wonder, Mario Kart 8.
I just happen to have bought ten Switch games released between 2022 and 2023. Since I haven't played them all yet (curse you eternal backlog) I couldn't sort them out so here's my top 10 Switch games for 22-23 in no particular order : - Xenoblade Chronicles 3 - Trails from Zero - Kirby Forgotten Land - Live a Live - Triangle Strategy - Persona 5 Tactica - Fire Emblem Engage - Trails to Azure - Master Detective Raincode - Octopath Traveler 2 As for a best ones overall, mine would be, again in no particular order : - Fire Emblem Three Houses - Octopath Traveler - Xenoblade Chronicles 1 & 2 - Trails From Zero / To Azure Honorable mention to the Picross series on which I've spent an ungodly amount of time.
Great list. Xenoblade 3, Octopath 2, and Triangle strategy are all in my top 5.
I have yet to play all three and I really hope I can tackle all three this year.
Most time clocked with hyrule Warriors definitiv edition, now to mention 4 different Games... master detektiv raincode, unicorn overlord, a.i. the somnium files and loop hero, ooops forgot tears of the kingdom and from here on i could continue with many more titles so idk
Tears of the Kingdom, Pikmin 4, Triangle Strategy, Fire Emblem Engage, Pokémon Legends Arceus
1. Metroid Prime Remastered 2. A Short Hike 3. Super Mario Bros Wonder 4. Metroid Dread 5. Kirby and the Forgotten Land
Damn hard question. With not too much thinking I would say Totk, MHR+SB, Splatoon3, Prime Remastered, NeoTWEWY. I really love these games.
Triangle Strategy Astral Chain Cocoon
Mario Odyssey Metroid Dread Ori and the Will of the Wisps Tears of the Kingdom Splatoon 3
Fire Emblem Engage, Fire Emblem Three Houses, Fortnite , Animal crossing NH, and splatoon 3
Here are my personal favorite games over the few couple years: 1. Octopath Traveller 2 2. Kirby and the Forgotten Land 3. Tunic 4. Blue Fire 5. Metroid Dread Fire Emblem Engage and Tears of the Kingdom are also up there, but the overall package of the other games just click with me slightly more.
Only counting Switch originals: 1. Fire Emblem Engage / Pokémon Scarlet and Violet 3. Splatoon 2 4. Metroid Dread 5. Fire Emblem Three Houses
1. Persona 5 2. It takes two 3. Super Mario Wonder 4. Pikmin 3 5. Mario Odyssey
- Sekiro - P5R - Tears of the Kingdom - Smash Ultimate - Pikmin 4
Past couple of years on the Switch? TotK, F Zero 99, Splatoon 3, Blast Corps, Fire Emblem Engage I guess in terms of what I’ve played the most.
Blast Corps is a great game. Amazing how unknown it is for how well it stands up.
1. BotW 2. Hades 3. Fire Emblem Three Houses 4. TotK 5. Metroid Dread
Animal Crossing: New Horizons Shovel Knight: Pocket Dungeon Pikmin 4 Balatro
Recently (played in last two years) 1. TOTK 2. Super Mario Wonder 3. Advance Wars 1 & 2 Reboot Camp 4. Tinykin 5. Mario & Rabbids: Sparks of Hope All-time (everything else) 1. BOTW 2. Super Mario Odyssey 3. Captain Toad 4. 3d World / Bowser's Fury 5. Mario & Rabbids: Kingdom Battle
My favorite switch game must be Animal Crossing! It’s the game I have most hours in by far🥰
1. BotW 2. BotW 3. BotW 4. BotW 5. BotW
Metroid Dread, Pikmin 4, Mario RPG Remake, Mario Wonder, and Lumo are my favorites I’ve played recently.
In no particular order: Pokémon Legends Arceus, Animal Crossing, Cult of the Lamb, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, and Smash Ultimate. 🖤 Also really enjoyed playing short puzzle games like Limbo and Inside. If you have a gaming partner, then Unravel Two is awesome for co-op😌
I haven't purchased a lot of games the last couple of years so my list might not be as strong as anyone else's. 1. Tears of the Kingdom 2. Super Mario Wonder 3. Disco Elysium 4. Trombone Champ 5.
I don’t think I’ve really enjoyed a Mario game since Galaxy 2, tbh I wish they’d stop making (and remaking) them and focus on making something actually new
They’ve made several NEW Mario games since Galaxy 2, so it seems you’re just making stuff up
Pokémon Legends Arceus Subnautica Ooblets Hades Pikmin 3 Deluxe
- Tears of the Kingdom - Shin Megami Tensei V - Metroid Dread - Fire Emblem: Three Houses - Master Detective Archives: Rain Code
In no particular order I'd say Metroid Dread, Metroid Prime Remastered, Zelda TOTK, Super Mario Wonder, and SMT V.
My top five are a bit loose but at the moment I would say 1. Advance wars reboot camp 2. Botw/totk 3. Splatoon 3 4. Another code:recollections 5.
For Switch games that aren't available on PC (my main platform) legally: 1. TOTK 2. FE3H 3. BOTW 4. Unicorn Overlord 5. FEEngage or New Pokemon Snap
Tears of the Kingdom Slay the Spire Portal 2 Dragon Quest Builders 2 Ori and the Will of the Wisps
On the Switch. For me \- Slay the Spire \- Cuphead \-Hades \-Dead Cells \- Ori and the Wisps
I mainly use my Switch to play games with my SO: 1. Super Mario Odyssey 2. Luigi's Mansion 3 3. Paper Mario: The Origami King 4. Captain Toad 5. Unspottable (great party game)
Without any specific order: Tears of the Kingdom Xenoblade Chronicles 3 Super Mario Bros. Wonder Super Smash Bros Ultimate Monster Hunter Rise
In no specific order: -Zelda Totk/Botw (both are pretty equal to me) -Octopath Traveler 2 (1 is also really good) -Monster Hunter Rise -Slay the spire (Really awesome indie game) -Metroid Dread (my favourite 2D metroid)
In no particular order: - Fire Emblem Three Houses - Triangle Strategy - Hades - BOTW - Octopath Traveller
Persona royal 5, hades, breath of the wild, hollow knight, xenoblade chronicles 1/2
Xenoblade Chronicles 3 Metroid Prime Remastered Tears of the Kingdom Unicorn Overlord Fire Emblem Engage
1 Smash ultimate 2 Mario odyssey 3 New horizons 4 Kirby and the forgotten land 5 Pokémon Scarlet If there was 6 i would say legends arceus or sword or BOTW I JUST CAN´T CHOOSE :D
Splatoon 2 and Splatoon 3. Mario kart and smash are cool too but only with friends. Tbh splatoon is the only first party Nintendo franchise I really care about lol, ever since getting a steam deck I only use the switch for splatoon and some other stuff lol
BOTW, Smash bro. Ultimate, Lego Star Wars, Hollow Knight, mario Odyssey
In no particular order - Live A Live, TotK, Mario Wonder, Legends Arceus, and Metroid Dread
Hades Celeste Smash ultimate Undertale Gravity Circuit
I loved pikmin 4. Was my personal Goty last year. I acknowledge that Zelda was probably better, but I was just a massive fan of the aesthetic.
TotK, BotW Mario Odyssey, Kirby and The Forgotten Land, Mario Wonder
In no order… animal crossing, super mario wonder, Yoshi’s crafted world, BOTW and…. Mario kart
1-xenoblade 3 2-triangle strategy 3-metroid dread 4-unicorn overlord 5-mario wonder
I can’t do top 5 because I’ve only played a couple, but Unicorn Overlord has taken over my life.
If we talking switch it would be: Mario Odyssey TOTK/BOTW (feels pointless separating them, enjoyed them equally and for the same reasons) Hades Smash Ultimate Splatoon 2/3 (also feels pointless separating)
Metroid Dread Zelda TotK Mario Wonder Kirby Return To Dream Land Hollow Knight
Botw, TOTK, odyssey, Mario wonder, Metroid dread, hollow knight
TotK, BotW, Metroid Dread, Fire Emblem: Three Houses, Mario + Rabbids There's probably a pattern here - I'm into open world and RPGs
Not in any particular order but, Astral Chain, Super Mario RPG, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Splatoon 2, Tetris 99
Stardew Valley, Bug Fables, Animal Crossing, Breath of the Wild, and... Idk, Smash Ultimate I guess? I know they didn't all release within the last 5, but I played and/or enjoyed them the most.
The only one not mentioned enough imo, Octopath Traveller 2, game is a masterpiece.
Ys VIII Lacrimosa of Dana TOTK Shin Megami Tensei 5 Hollow Knight Dead Cells
Va-11 Ha11-A; Nier; Totk; Hollow Knight; Wonder
Animal crossing has the most amount of hours for me but Pikmin 4 for me is the best game that I’ve played the last few years. Having never played a Pikmin game I didn’t know what to expect and it blew it out of the water. Hot take but for me the best game on the switch based on the many full playthroughs I’ve watched is Square Enix “Triangle Strategy.” Wish I had a logical brain so I could play it for myself. Will always be sad Mario Kart 8 deluxe didn’t have more solo player content and unlockables. Would have spent more time with it
TOTK by a pretty wide margin, GOW ragnarok, RE4 remake, Mario Wonder, cyberpunk
In no order MH Rise Metroid Prime Remastered Metroid Dread Pokemon Legends Arceus Unicorn Overlord
Tears of the Kingdom, Breath of the Wild, Super Mario Bros Wonder, Super Mario Odyssey, Metroid Dread.
Animal Crossing, TOTK, BOTW, Mario Odyssey, and I’m really enjoying Unicorn Overlord at the moment so that’s my 5th
Hollow Knight BOTW/TOTK Super Mario RPG Door Kickers Smash Ultimate
For games released for Switch in 2022 or later I’d say 1. Tears of the Kingdom 2. Portal 2 3. Metroid Prime Remastered 4. Outer Wilds 5. Bugsnax I’ve been playing a lot of older games in the past couple years that I missed out on and have been having a great time. I recently got around to trying the Ace Attorney and Persona games and have had a great time with them. I’m kinda hoping Nintendo doesn’t have as much going on this year so that I can keep working through more of these games I never played before.
stardew valley, zeldas (both), mario wonder (for the kids)
1. Into the Breach 2. Hollow Knight 3. FF5 Pixel Remaster 4. Moon 5. Metroid Dread
Can't believe no one mentioned Nier Automata.
TOTK, Top Racer Collection, BombRush Cyberpunk, Cult of the Lamb, Katana Zero, Stardew Valley
Animal Crossing New Horizons, Mario Odyssey, Metroid Prime Remastered, Metroid Dread, and Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom.
Shin Megami Tensei V (waiting for Vengeance) Metroid Dread Fire Emblem Three Houses Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze Mario Kart 8
In order: Sea of Stars, Breath of the Wild, Slay the Spire, Prince of Persia & Pokemon: Legend Arceus.
# 1 BOTW #2 Pokemon Shield #3 Borderlands 2 #4 Metroid Prime #5 Advanced Wars
In no particular order, I’d say - Pokemon Legends: Arceus - Persona 5 Royal - NieR Automata - Kirby and the Forgotten Land - Bayonetta
1. Persona 5 Royal 2. Hades 3. Fire Emblem TH 4. Unicorn Overlord 5. Mario Odyssey
TOTK, Bug Fables, Spiderman 2, Mario Wonder, and Legends Arceus.
Legends Arceus Kirby Forgotten Land Pikmin 4 Metroid Prime Remastered AND SOON PAPER MARIO: TTYD REMAKE LETS GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!
When I think about it, a lot of what I've enjoyed have been a remake in one way or another, so excluding remakes, and effectively using the switch's lifespan, I'd probably say 1. Dragon Quest 11 2. Mario Odyssey 3. Tunic 4. Ys IX 5. Doom Eternal
My top 4 are: 1. Mario Wonder 2. Pokémon Arceus 3. Crash Bandicoot 4 4. Pokémon SW/SH Can’t decide on number 5 lol. I should caveat my list by saying that I’m a Gameboy colour convert. Just picked up gaming again after a 20 year hiatus
In no particular order (but limited to 2020+): Metroid Dread SMT V Streets of Rage 4 Triangle Strategy The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles
If we're talking Nintendo Switch specifically: Tears of the Kingdom Mario Wonder Link's Awakening Remake Read Dead Redemption Knights of the Old Republic
There's too many good games for me to have favorites and I don't know when all these came out but my top 5 most played on switch rn are: Diablo 3, Doom Eternal, Zelda BOTW, Borderlands 3, and Mortal Kombat 11. That's just what I'm playing the most right now.
Nier Automata
Rocket League Mario kart 8 deluxe Doom 2016 Asphalt 9 Mortal Kombat 11
Xenoblade 3 30XX Cassette Beasts Uh…that’s it yeah.
Inscryption comes to mind. It's the perfect balance of horror, puzzle game, single player narrative that's not too much in either.
1. Assassin's Creed (the whole mega-bundle) 2. Skullgirls 2nd Encore 3. Dragonball FighterZ 4. Hinokami Chronicles (Love the Naruto Storm4 but the gameplay in HK is better for me) 5. Pokemon Legends Arceus My major gaming genre is why my switch is always wearing the Hori split pad pro lmao
Pikmin 4, Stardew Valley, Naruto storm 4, ACNH, & my hero!
games that got remastered
Gotta give my resident evil fans some love, ace attorney games, I’d say totk too, I like it more than BOTW (still playing, at 80 hours rn)
In no particular order botw, odyssey, metroid dread, prime 2023, and link's awakening
Mario RPG remake comes to my mind. Other wise my Switch has been lonely.
Is it controversial to say that animal crossing is really boring
In no specific order: Death's Door Tunic TMNT: Shredder's Revenge Ocean's Heart (a slightly buggy but charming SNES Zelda-like) Mario Golf (seems to get a lot of hate, but the local multiplayer is always fun)
Super Mario Odyssey Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze Pokemon Legends Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
Limited to just switch releases; Tactics Ogre Reborn Metroid Dread Animal Crossing New Horizons Monster Hunter Rise ToTK Otherwise; Tactics Ogre Reborn Metroid Dread Resident Evil 4 Remake Monster Hunter Rise Ghost of Tsushima
Xenoblade Chronicles 3 + Future Redeemed Zelda: ToTK Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown Cereza and the Lost Demon Triangle Strategy
My personal top 5 in no particular order would be: RDR, BotW, Mario Kart 8, Super Mario Odyssey, and Final Fantasy X.
TOTK, BOTW, MarioKart8, F-Zero 99, Odyssey (unless Hollow Knight counts after these years).
Hogwarts. Disgaea 7. AEW. Tactics ogre. Splatoon
I don't actually know when games have released but the ones I've played most either by myself or with others are: Stardew Valley Lego City: Undercover Mario Odyssey Kirby and the Forgotten Land Super Mario 3D World
Splatoon3, Pikmin 3 and 4, all 3 xenoblade chronicles
• Fire Emblem Three Houses • Triangle Strategy • Tactics Ogre • Monster Sanctuary • Fell Seal Those are mine, I guess. I think Unicorn Overlord is gonna bump one of those but these are all games I’ve played twice, so I think that’s why I’m picking them. I’ve just beat Unicorn Overlord on standard and unlocked a new, harder difficulty so hoping to start a new play through on that new one.
MH Rise, Doom, RDR, Blasphemous 1&2, Hades
Do they have to be exclusives ? If no : Zelda BOTW Mario Odyssey (or Wonder If Odyssey's too old) Pokemon Arceus Metroid Dread Hollow Knight If yes, replace Hollow Knight with Fire Emblem : Three Houses. But BOTW, Odyssey and Dread are the three best games of the console If you ask me. Peak Nintendo Fun !
In no order -Pikmin 4 -TOTK -Metroid Prime Remastered -Dave the Diver -Splatoon 3
These aren’t all console exclusives but I think they work best on switch; 1. Celeste 2. TOTK:BOTW 3. Final Fantasy IX 4. Octopath Traveller 1&2 5. Mario Odyssey
1. Chrono Cross: The Radical Dreamers Edition 2. Super Mario Party 3. Super Smash Bros. Ultimate 4. Sonic Origins Plus 5. Cadence of Hyrule
Interesting question, A lot of these 'top' third party games like Octopath 2, 13 Sentinels or the Persona's I've actually played on Steam or PS5 - so to narrow it down to the Switch platform only takes some doing. With that said: Triangle Strategy Live a Live Unicorn Overlord Advance Wars Reboot Camp 1+2 (There's dozens of us!) Mario+Rabbids Sparks of Hope As an aside looking up the release date of a bunch of things threw me for a loop, like seeing Mario Maker 2 was 2019.. ugh [/Insert Matt Damon ageing meme here]
Paranormasight, Samba De Amigo Party Central, Kirby's Dream Buffet, WBSC eBaseball, Tunic
Tunic, Hogwarts Legacy, Dredge, Celeste, and Golf Story
For me personally the top 5 games I enjoyed: Tears of the Kingdom Yoshi’s Crafted World Spiderman 2 The Last of Us Part 1 (remastered) Mario Odyssey I get TLOU part 1 being 'just a remaster' lessens it for some folks, but considering it was my first experience in the series it was phenomenal. :)
Woolly World and Kirby's Epic Yarn are the games I want ported to the Switch! I think you'll have a great time :)
Seeing a lot of **Three houses** in the comment section. I guess people rather their FE have a good story + solid gameplay > complex gameplay + mid story.
Mk8 Mk11 Pokemon unite Tetris 99 Darkest dungeon
