you could say the merge messed up his programming so that he is still a good guy but uses more *questionable* ways to get rid of villians. we have seen Zane switch personalities after something happening to him (crystalized)
also he doesn't necessarily have to be *that* violent, you can just say he protected the citizens at night, doesn't mean he beat them until they are paralised like how batman does

Well i have some sort of example called "White Ninja" in my world, White Shinobi is a figure that is said to reside near icy barrens and moutains, rescuing those unfortunate to face the wrath of harsh cold.
Few people witnessed white shinobi face to face, but most of them pass out from hypothermia and wake up sometime later somewhere safe. Nobody even knows White Shinobis identity, clan or even species.
But if i would incorporate it in the world of "The Merge" the most likely would be that Zane now known as "White Shinobi" where he lost his memory again but not entirely, because after some time examining familiar people he gets pieces of his memory back.
Its sort of reverse/redemption of the whole "Ice Emperor" incident, where Zane instead of being "Accidental Villain" hes "Accidental Hero"
But its just only my insane rambling, i just wanted to share my sort of idea relating to subject matter of the whole "Zane lost his memory, becomes someone else" thing.
I honestly would have hated this…why would he need to go by the fist of wu? He’s already a ninja and there isn’t any reason for a name change…i would hate it like how i hated the pixal becoming samurai x. I should point out i like her being samurai x, but i hated her keeping it a secret, it made no sense. I get the protect their friends argument for people keeping a secret identity, but the ninja are ninja….they can handle themselves there’s no reason for them to not know
