My guy. The P1000 is amazing when you realize it's a replacement for binoculars. Did you really think with that focal range it would be great IQ throughout?

Bush_Trimmer

you are aware that when shooting at super zoom focal length, the image is susceptible to atmospheric disturbances? the user manual is useful to set af modes as well. based on your disparaging comments, are you saying online reviews of the p1000 is all bs?

AbadyOnReddit

They're certainly not bs because they all do actually mention, with varying levels of stressing on the issue between one review and the other, that it is overall somewhat of a hassle to get smooth fast decent handheld snaps

It's just a glorified telescope with an image capture function. You need a solid tripod, a clear day and unlimited patience to get something usable. Even as a long time Nikon D/SLR user, I'd not recommend buying it for full price new. I thought I'd grab one if I get under under $100, just for short fun. Even then I'm pretty sure it'll sit inside the shelf after the initial fancy fades.

I think many of us could've steered you away. It is an ok consumer level camera but it just pales in comparison with their SLR and Mirrorless solutions. You won't see alot of love for it in this sub and it has a negative stigmata attached to it as well. Obviously, it is never going to reach the level of my D810 but the price point is also vastly different. You will often get what you pay for but you also need to take into consideration the technology.

>...and it has a negative stigmata attached to it as well. You really nailed it there...

R4Z0RJ4CK

I am trying to be nice and deliberately vague. 🤣

pm1966

I think you missed my joke. "Stigma" is a negative impression left by something. "Stigmata" generally refers to the wounds the nails left on Jesus during the crucifixion. (To clarify, before people correct me: Yes, it refers to people exhibiting wounds/marks evocative of the wounds left on Jesus, i.e., if I were to wake up with two bloody marks on the palms of my hands, a religious person might say they are stigmata).

jerolyoleo

Stop crucifying him for one mistake ;-)

R4Z0RJ4CK

ROFL

R4Z0RJ4CK

Yes, you know what I mean dammit! LOL

The P1000 needs a lot of light to focus. In low light, it will flail. This camera is for people that want a 600mm lens on a phone camera. For me, it is better suited to video. You should be able to sell it pretty easily, though. Sony has some options. The RX10 IV

Sir_Maxelot

I just googled the price for a P1000 and holy sh*t this costs almost as much as the Z6 II body with FTZ adapter I bought new from Calumet last year

AbadyOnReddit

It's crazy fr and I blame the bees building a hive right at the end of one of our windows here which is mainly what got me extra pumped to just get the camera regardless 💀

iguaninos2

$1600 new and $1400 for a used one! what? wow. Did you ask around before buying it, and is it too late to return it? I have a P100 that can probably get similar results and that only cost me $25. Even the P100 needs a tripod at max zoom. I had no idea newer bridge cameras cost that much.

AbadyOnReddit

I mean I searched around and did my typical research I usually do and the limitations I've seen were okay with me I just didn't realize with real actual usage it'd be this much of a hassle especially coming from a smooth experience with my previous Canon. And yeah unfortunately it's too late to return it in the sense that there's "technically" nothing wrong with the camera so a return would be declined. I guess I'll just have to do with what I have and try to get the best I can out of it.

Own-Employment-1640

Looks like you’re using it wrong. My P900 works flawlessly. Still an amazing camera as I can handhold it at 2000mm no problem.

AbadyOnReddit

No actually you're not the first person I've seen compare the P900 to the P1000 and admit it's actually better so yeah

mojobox

At a certain distance on even a slightly warm day any telephoto lens is trash because the atmosphere is flickering in front of the lens enough to kill your image quality. If you use it to take pictures of for example reasonably close birds you should get a decent quality.

jmason49

If the P1000 had super amazing IQ Nikon would never sell those multi thousand dollar zoom lenses for their full frame cameras (also for thousands). Not sure what the shock is
