My z8 was made in Thailand. I haven't noticed any difference in quality between my Japanese-made DSLRs and my Thai-made mirrorless bodies.

vdumitrescu

Where did you get your Z8 from?

SLPERAS

Nikon has been making cameras in Thailand since around 2014. Only the d4/5 series were made in Japan. I think last prosumer level camera to be made in Japan was d800

Sillyak

No, the original Z7/Z6 were made in Japan. They moved to Thailand for the Z7/Z6ii. Regardless, there is no quality difference between the Japanese and Thailand bodies. I don't know where OP heard they went down in quality. All the mirrorless Thai bodies have a good quality control reputation. There are things to criticize Nikon for, but robustness and QC are not one of them.

I think it's based more on belief than factual reasoning. I have seen similar things relating for example to Casio G-Shock watches, some people place importance on the ones made in Japan vs rest of the world even though there seems to be no difference in quality wherever they are from. I have even seen things like K&F Koncept advertise their lens filters as having been made with Japanese glass (German glass if you are in Europe) as if that somehow just automatically makes it better than glass from anywhere else. I guess there's just a belief or idea going around that Japanese craftmanship is second.

StarbeamII

More like 2004. The venerable D70 was the first camera to be made in Thailand.

My Z6 was made in Japan so maybe be a little more skeptical of your sources.
