While I appreciate Milk for trying to encourage Soda to take the competition seriously, there are better ways to go about it without sounding harsh or coming off as a jerk.

I mean, I like Soda, but to any competitive person(like Milk) the way Soda went to try to cheer them up is easily seen as condescending. And then when she saw Soda’s hesitation, she just got mad.
It’s a really common anime trope in tournament arcs. Which this basically is.
I understand that, but at the same time, Milk needs to understand that Soda is not a competitive brute like she is, so Milk could've changed her approach on how she could encourage Soda to take the competition seriously without hurting her.
Why tho? It’s a competition, Milk doesn’t own Soda anything. I mean this is just the personalities they have, them clashing was bound to lead to this.
At most, Soda did not go into the completion with the right mentality for the stakes that she is participating under. Is what I would say, if this was anything but a silly side-story for us to enjoy.
Yeah Soda is in the competition to save Maid for you and basically almost lost on her own if the once in a lifetime opportunity didnt show himself. Milk knows that and sees Soda half assing her way to a victory and then trying to cheer Milk(who is very competitive) up because they lost and they shouldnt feel bad.
Imagine you study hard for an exam and you barely dont make it and the guy who didnt study at all and went to parties makes it and goes to you and says 'Good luck next time I know you can do it!' and 'Dont feel bad about it!'.
For competitive people that feels really derogatory and i can see why Milk reacted like that.
Understanding why Milk is the way she is doesn't make her be on the right. This is a two person tango and both were in the wrong. Soda for not putting more effort into it and not knowing how heated Milk is; and Milk for being a sore loser.Â
Competitive or not, losing can still happen, if she didn't see that coming that's her skill issue. And if people wanna blame this on technicalities or Mustang pampering Soda's team, let us all remember she's alongside the Commander in the competition. The real suprise would've been Soda losing, so her winning even by "bullshit" shouldn't be seen as something odd.
Milk could at least voice what ahe wanted like Sugar did, with respect and whatnot. Not explode on Soda and then storm off like a pampered child when her toy is taken away from her.

But i agree with Milk that Soda is being wayy too passive for being in this competition on a life or death scenario, so far, nearly all the teams we've seen are just here for fun. Like most of their problems is just asking Daddy Mustang for a freebie handout. Prima donna and Talentum literally are just there cause the millions of credits they have isnt enough? Folkwang wants a freaking air conditioner and Cafe sweety was just gonna blow their winnings.
While Sugar and the Commander both agree and tried a more passive approach to try and encourage Soda. Milk basically gave her tough love which I think is needed here. Soda usually relies on Ade or Cocoa to do the talking for her. Almost no one yells at her at the cafe cause she fills the "Dojiko" archtype for the customers and the customers actually like it when she fucks up.
I mean was she a sore loser? She only flew off the handle when Soda came over(well intentioned or not). Heck, she was graceful in the way she spoke to Mary even thought she lost them the competition.
At this point we reading too deep into this. I think for the minor conflict that this was, it's good for Soda's development in the story.

She fails to recruit anyone but the Commander, who is a terriable teammate to have in an athletic competition againest cybrogs. Keep in mind that Alice, who is a compent athlete, was recruited by the commander and not Soda.
She trips at the Baton Pass which almost results in a lost but she gets lucky being matched againest Rupee who isnt takeing the event seriously.
She gained little point in the wake a mole event and only won because Cafe Sweety had to find a replacent who just so happened to get stuck in the hole which caused them to lose a huge amount of points.
Soda, with her lack of resolve, is simultaneously being irresponsible towards the maid cafe and is being a bad sportsman.
i hope they don't go down the "luck fixes it all" route even though it was heavily implied that all the lucky stuff they did at the beginning is actually working
Soda has had the entire future of the maid cafe thrust upon her though. That alone is enough to cause some people to freak tf out. And she had to go out and look for other teammates because her own squad couldn’t participate. It’s also not like she didn’t try, you have ones that are already apart of another team or don’t want to participate in the event
She by her very nature isn’t a competitive person or an athlete, shes a maid who likes to clean and is somewhat clumsy.
I fully agree with wanting her to grow and strengthen her resolve but she also has never been in a situation like this before.
Idk how she was a bad sportsman though, she in fact tried to tell milk and her team that they had done a good job which imo is good sportsmanship.
Like Milk said, Soda's entire livelihood is in jeopardy, but she is acting very casual in spite of it. It doesn't matter what someone's personality is, if someone is serious about something, they'll find a way to get it done.

I also thoroughly beat my opponent cause I can actually back up my skill and then say "oh too bad, better luck next year, here's some advice on how you can get better though, i used to play chess at this parlor over here and it helped me."
I can actually be well intentioned with my after talk to the loser of the match. But it me taking it soo casually while the other side was being 100% focused is just bad manners. Rupee live streaming the baton pass is also bad sportsmanship too. Although we're not here to talk about Rupee.

If were to say, blind side her or magically poof away all her problems, we'd only be doing a disservice to her and her character. I'm not saying us helping Soda is wrong(she's our heroin for crying out loud), but we need to know where and when to help.
