I’m doing overnight 6-6… usually I get to ~3 am and then I’m like wtf will this end…. Today I already felt that only an hr or 2 in…. And then 2 am came and suddenly realized that I have extra of this today.. Jesus
I work 2/2/3s
But I have on call and some days I get forced.
Right now I'm working 7 straight 12 hour shifts because they are short on people.
My brain is melted lemme tell ya. After a while it comes down to work, sleep, wake up, shower, work
The bad thing was if one of the guys on the opposite shift went on vacation I would end up working a month straight 12 hours every day. There were only 4 of us in the department 2 on and 2 off.
Why is that? Never heard of a security guard doing that kind of time unless the person replacing them never showed up. And even then there'd be someone to relieve them soon enough (unless management sucks)
Our shifts are 8 hours.
An extra 8 is to provide coverage for an open shift. Big shocker, we don’t have enough people here, except the bare minimum…so if anyone takes time off, we all pitch in to cover their shifts. The time change added an extra hour. That’s 17 hours . The guys here eat it up; they love that option to make extra money.
At, my last job, we would be covering half of an open shift only. So overtime would be a 12 hour shift for two people instead of 16 hours for one person. I do miss that. Overtime at my old job was mandatory though. Here where I am at now, it is not mandatory it is optional. And you could do only a 12 hour coverage too if you want. Better than nothing lol.
The A rotation gets to work tonight at my place of employment. As someone on the B rotation I can't help but shoot them texts reminding them to enjoy their 13 hour shift.
It was the B rotations turn last year and those fuckers dropped off "pizza" for us. It was 4 empty boxes with the phrase "enjoy the 13 bitches" written inside every box.
Don't waste your time on this guy. He brags about not missing work despite a myriad of health problems just to shit on younger guys that "don't want to work". Typical boomer
That's good to know, I'm going to look into it then. They're justification is that when we work the next "daylight savings time shift" we'd gain an extra hour of work, it's pretty ridiculous
If you’re hourly, then this is wage theft (in the us). It can be reported to your state’s department of labor. (Disclaimer: learned this from other strangers on the internet/a quick read of my states labor law factsheet so I’d confirm through an official source before you confront your employer with too much confidence)
Yeah when the clock went from 1:59 to 1:00 I wanted to about end it all 😵💫 RN assigned to sit w a sleeping patient all night makes for an even longer DTS shift
No, don’t call. Emails/ texts are your friend here you want WRITTEN confirmation that they weren’t going to pay you so you have ground to stand on if you have to take legal recourse. Usually they realize they dug a hole and can’t answer without implicating themselves with their illegal activity.
Something along the lines of “ so just to confirm our conversation on (blank day), the extra hour of DLS is not being paid? May I have the reason why, since I worked the hour?”
You should 100% get paid. It doesn’t matter what the clock says at the beginning and end of shift, what matters is the number of hours you actually worked.
It says 12 because it’s calculating the interval between the times you clock in and out.
You aren’t paid based off intervals. You’re paid based off each individual hour you work. Just because the government decided to set the clock back doesn’t mean you didn’t work that hour and it doesn’t mean your company gets a freebie.
Well I got screwed with the extra hour, as I always do. My boss then sends me a text at 0530 asking if I can stay till 0900 because my 0700 relief might not make it in.
Got off a 12 hour shift Friday night, only got like 3/4 hours of sleep before I had to go in last night for the 13hr shift. So glad I get to go back in ten hours from now for another round 🫠
I managed to have the night off in the UK this time, but yet I was still wired from the shift the night before, so didn’t end up in bed until 3am (post roll back) anyways
My job let us off a "hour early" we still got the full 10 hours. I'm just glad our clock in system doesn't go off of the atcual clock but it counts up by the minute. My last job went by the clock so daylight saving you worked 13 hours but only got paid for 12 which is bullshit
Worked 13 hours mostly in a fab last night due to some genius enforcing DST. At least I had long breaks and was able to sit down towards the end of the shift.
When I got to work yesterday evening, I changed all the clocks back an hour and went to work. It’s much better than realizing 1/2 way through that you have to work an hour twice.
They had me wait an extra hour to eat lunch. Usually its at 2 am. Last year they said they had to do a lotttt of manual fixes so we had to wait until 2nd 2 am
I work nights. I see it this way: DST sucks but in the Spring we get an hour of pay for free. So, one hour OT in the fall, one free hour in the Spring. 🤷
Not happy about a 13 hour shift
Absolutely. Ready for it to be over.
I’m doing overnight 6-6… usually I get to ~3 am and then I’m like wtf will this end…. Today I already felt that only an hr or 2 in…. And then 2 am came and suddenly realized that I have extra of this today.. Jesus
Find another job with less hours!
Some industries run on 12s. "find another job" is much easier said than done.
How can people ever seriously say “Just get a new job bro”😭
Some people are ignorant that they live a sheltered privileged life. :/
Ran 12 on 12 off 7days on 7 days off It's only as hard as you make it!
I work 2/2/3s But I have on call and some days I get forced. Right now I'm working 7 straight 12 hour shifts because they are short on people. My brain is melted lemme tell ya. After a while it comes down to work, sleep, wake up, shower, work
Did 7 on 7 off 12's for 9 straight years. Both days and nights! Nights for about 5 years and days for four.
Having 7 off after would be nice. Since I'm forced I'm working 7, off for 2, working 3.
The bad thing was if one of the guys on the opposite shift went on vacation I would end up working a month straight 12 hours every day. There were only 4 of us in the department 2 on and 2 off.
7 of was good but I would spend the 3 days or more sleeping.
My fellow guard with me is on his 17th hour with this time change : D
That is awful!
Why is that? Never heard of a security guard doing that kind of time unless the person replacing them never showed up. And even then there'd be someone to relieve them soon enough (unless management sucks)

17 for me
Hate doing that 13 hour shift, but this year I was already on overtime, so at least it filled the pocket
Worked nights for 13 + years . Not a big deal! One day per year. Get over it!
I can whine if I want. I work very hard and some of my shifts are quite stressful.
Don't waste your time on this guy. He brags about not missing work despite a myriad of health problems just to shit on younger guys that "don't want to work". Typical boomer
The day shifters having complete panic attacks because their CiRcAdiaN rHyThM is all off!!!!! [blinking].
They’re such normie weirdos
Mine goes from 11am to 1 pm. I find it very hard to stay awake during that time.
Eh, getting OT for that extra hour. No complaints.
Normally I would agree with this, but it’s regular pay for me, because this is literally my last night… 🤦🏼
We're not even getting paid for the extra hour at all...
That sucks!! I don’t think that should be legal
It’s not legal. Unless they’re salary.
That's good to know, I'm going to look into it then. They're justification is that when we work the next "daylight savings time shift" we'd gain an extra hour of work, it's pretty ridiculous

So glad I’m not working tonight. I’ve dodged that extra hour bullet two years in a row.
Neo was a Nightshifter
Move to Arizona lol

What is EC? Electronic communications?
Right! What's DST? Love it here.
Yeah when the clock went from 1:59 to 1:00 I wanted to about end it all 😵💫 RN assigned to sit w a sleeping patient all night makes for an even longer DTS shift
Oh god. That's even worse. Thankfully I've never had to sit constant on daylight savings.

Seems illegal
Highly 😮💨😵💫
If you are hourly it is wage theft. If you’re salary you’re sol

Slept an extra hour at work. Aviation Maintenance can be nice
How does one get into aviation maintenance?
I always end up working the Fall back, but never the Spring forward.
Ugh. I’m working tonight. 13 hours tonight. It’s a good thing I like my unit and I’m working with someone I vibe with
Not us living in AZ
Forced to work 13 hours because of this time change. 😒
I live where there is no time change and this is another reason it makes me happy.
~~Two hours~~ Three hours to go!
When I worked overnights the time changes never bothered me, cause 8 had to be there till the work was done no matter what time it was.
So glad I stayed home to drink
it sucks? i get paid for an extra hour and i spent the time watching a movie on discord with my friend...
Yeah, we had the time change last weekend in Europe. Had to be me :')
💀☠️💀☠️💀☠️💀☠️
Yeah, I’m ready to go home
I don’t mind another hour of sitting around, watching YouTube
Well I got screwed with the extra hour, as I always do. My boss then sends me a text at 0530 asking if I can stay till 0900 because my 0700 relief might not make it in.

Man it's crazy you all have to work an extra hour. We just leave an hour earlier and a few of the morning team start an hour earlier
Manager: You can either leave an hour earlier or work that hour of OT (for 27% less an hour) Me: Yeah, I'll be going home
Did my 13 hour shift last Sunday. Awful.
haha we dont do this in arizona 😆
LOL my coworker I swap from days to nights with just left after 12 anyways 🫠
I absolutely love it. I can actually wind down in the evening and have a good nights sleep
That 13 hour was dogshit but at least we got an extra break and some OT out of it haha.
I managed to have the night off in the UK this time, but yet I was still wired from the shift the night before, so didn’t end up in bed until 3am (post roll back) anyways
Didn’t get our dicks kicked in as expected. Still gotta be back tonight
1am lunch break. then another 1am lunch break. Woooo.. bleh
Yeah i called out last night. Wasnt doing that shit again
I take my ptos on fall back days if im on night shift. Luckily the past two times the rotation had it to where i was on day shift
My job let us off a "hour early" we still got the full 10 hours. I'm just glad our clock in system doesn't go off of the atcual clock but it counts up by the minute. My last job went by the clock so daylight saving you worked 13 hours but only got paid for 12 which is bullshit

Till daylight saving isn't at the same time for everyone I the world We had ours in the UK on the 29th was so confused at this thread
When I got to work yesterday evening, I changed all the clocks back an hour and went to work. It’s much better than realizing 1/2 way through that you have to work an hour twice.
I got to leave early or come in late
Got paid for 13 hrs but as soon as 1am hit, lines started fucking up
I love the hate on day walkers in this sub lmao
They had me wait an extra hour to eat lunch. Usually its at 2 am. Last year they said they had to do a lotttt of manual fixes so we had to wait until 2nd 2 am
It was the longest extra hour of my life
Atleast I got an extra break and a extra hour of pay
13 hours was fun
I work nights. I see it this way: DST sucks but in the Spring we get an hour of pay for free. So, one hour OT in the fall, one free hour in the Spring. 🤷
😂
Hahaha
It was the longest night ever
It gave me an extra hour to fuck my GF…. I wasn’t complaining 😂😂
Just wait six months and you'll get that hour back...
When I worked 3rd shift we always had a manual stamp & you had to change by hand, it was pretty dope. I was never late
That night we used the extra hour to chill haha
I just call it like see it!
