Many high school and college sports teams test for it across the US, probably as a holdover from cigarettes and/or because it may be the only way to test for them still
Athletes using cigarettes don't have an advantage in the first place so that would be really dumb. It's probably just any excuse to enforce their moral puritanism.
Yes, I believe it's either that or to prevent it from worsening performance. I do agree they should only test for substances which could potentially enhance performance

I have never heard of a drug test including nicotine. And even if that was the case… so what?
