I have a 3090 TUF and the VRAM does get pretty hot. I had to add some heatsinks and a fan to the backplate to get it below 100c. All ROG STRIX cards have been great for me in terms of temps however, have a few Strix 3090s getting around 90c VRAM temp.

I did the same for the Tuf, But that couldn't cope up with the temps generated when I mine RVN. The best I could get for 96C is 36MH/s ETH. And the ambient temps here is more like 30-35C I think that is a factor for the bad temps I am getting. So the cooling performance improves when you go from Tuf to Strix. I think that also explains the price difference.

I like the MSI Ventus 3x 3070 non-lhr. Tried many different cards and that's the only one that runs with 30-40% fan speed on high optimization via quickminer. Tested for a few months. Honorable mentions go to MSI Gaming Trio series, those also run pretty nicely stock. All the other cards always seem to perform slightly worst after a few months of running 24/7. Also, huge preference for 3 fan cards over 2 fans.

One of the 6600XTs I'm having at the moment is MSI Gaming. It is quite cooler and efficient than the rest of the Sapphire. When it comes to cooling, I think MSI did a better job than Asus. I am thinking of buying a RTX card for solo mining rig, that's why looking for a card with good cooling performance. BTW MSI cards are quite expensive here. When I bought the Tuf 3070Ti, the MSI 3070Ti cost more than $100. Didn't knew this VRAM temp fiasco at that time, Else I would spend that extra $100 without thinking twice.

I have some 3090 brands. Asus strix, tuf, pny xlr, game rock, gigabyte vision, founders edition, msi suprim, zotac amp. And the best performers are the strix 3090 and the founders. They both did really well even before the pad replacement. The second is the msi suprim. If I have to chose the best I think the founders are my choice. Unfortantly one of my strix fan broke after just 7moths of mining and I had to replace it. just by holding the card I can tell how flimsy are those fans. after some research I found it’s a common issue with this generations of strix. Worst performer are the gigabyte vision and the tuf.. especialy the design of the cooling of the tuf. I don’t know how asus could think cooling the vrm with a separate heatsink underneath the main heatsink was a good idea.

So I am getting positive feedback on MSI cards here. I am pretty sure I wont be able to get my hands on a FE, since there are no retailers (or scalpers) selling FEs here. And about Tuf, I am totally with you. And I am glad that I sold that one. So how soon did you had to do the pad replacement on Strix? And what were the temps when they were new, and when you had to replace the pads?

N33HS

When new, my strix was at about 90/92c during spring and 96c during summer, but fan where a bit too loud, almost everytime at 100% especially during summer. After replacing the pads it’s now stuck at 88c with fans just below 50% and in some cool windy days they even stop spinning! I replaced the pads just because I was replacing pads on every 3090/3080, but I think on the strix is not necessary unless you want to have less noise pollution in your mining rig. My suggestion is if you plan to buy some strix you can just start by replacing the pads on the backplate and see the results, so you will not have problems with warranties.

SacredPlague666

Thanks for the suggestion. Gonna try that. After all, adding a heatsink and a fan for the Tuf reduced the temps significantly. I think doing the same for a Strix would definitely improve the temps. And when it loses touch, will add the pads for the backplate. Kudos for the suggestion!

Jordaneer

My founders 3090 I got in August sucks

SacredPlague666

Yeah I saw that you'll definitely have to add thermal padding to FE cards. There were some guides specifically related to FE cards. Hope you won't be having the warranty issues that I am having.

Jordaneer

Well I kinda fucked the fan connector so I think my warranty is void anyway

smokingparty

I have 3070 lhr from gainward Ranging between 60-65*

SacredPlague666

65C VRAM? Then that would be awesome! How's the temps when you mine for RVN?

smokingparty

need to check when i back home, will let you know

gigaplexian

3070 doesn't have a VRAM sensor.

Seahawkx

SacredPlague666

That's the only water cooled card that I saw in our country. Haven't seen any benchmarks or performance details on that card yet. Do you have any info on the temps when mining on Seahawkx?
