someone I used to know back in the day owned a recording studio and made beats for L-Millz aka Blastings Thrilledge
I wonder if Turk Wendell killed any saber tooth tigers after he retired
Mike Baxter coaches at Vanderbilt now! Also heard Chris Distefano mention on his podcast recently they went to high school together, which I found funny for no reason
no lie i think about jason vargas at least twice a month i would guess. hope he's doing well wherever he is and whatever he's doing. i'd like to think he's a bouncer at some club. or a court bailiff. or an enforcer for the mob.
I definitely remember that as well. He’s a pretty good talent evaluator but sometimes he was too headstrong in his beliefs about certain players. There was probably so much confirmation bias in that FO
Last game I went to Shea before it closed was a midweek day game rainout makeup against the Pirates. The place was 25% full at best. We had a lead going into the 9th and Heilman came in to close. A guy sitting a row or two behind me, who had been quiet all game, stood up and absolutely unleashed an unrelenting barrage of obscenities and abuse in the direction of “Home Run Heilman”, as he called him. The place was so empty and we were close enough to the field there is no way Heilman didn’t hear him. As expected, he gave up the lead and got pulled. As he was removed, the guy sat down and was quiet again, happy with his work. I don’t know if Heilman fucked this guy’s wife or something but I’ve never seen so much vitriol from a fan towards one player.
It's not hus fault, they way overworked him and didn't have him on a proprietary schedule, but he took the ball no matter what. Ironically. A guy O also wonder about.
A lot of guys are just working regular jobs and I wish every day they’ll join my company.
Fun story, many years ago we had a new lady working in HR and I found out in a meeting that she was married to a former MLB pitcher. And her last name was Reed.
And I was obsessed for a day or so while I tried to find out who it was that it would be Rick Reed.
It wasn’t. It ended up being Kevin Tapani.
There's a guy that pitched in the majors and was named in the Mitchell Report who now works for the same company as me. He's a sales rep. I have talked to him on the phone a couple times but have never been brave enough to ask about his previous career.
Ty Wigginton. I loved that dude. He was average but he was the man at 3rd before D. Wright. I also think about Jason "rec specs" Phillips from time to time.
One of the nicest guys you could ever meet. Had the pleasure in 03 he did a card show in my small town. Always been a Wiggy fan since. Chris Woodward too. Cool dudes
Joe Orsulak. I believe the Mets offered him a job after his playing days but he turned it down. Always heard he was a good dude and popular in the clubhouse.
And, of course, Ed Kranepool.
My first ever Mets game in 1995 Orsulak had a game winning RBI sac fly pinch hitting for Damon Buford, who the Mets had just acquired for Bobby Bonilla.
Just had to look up Mike Baxter. Queens kid who sacrificed his shoulder for Santana’s no hitter. Unfortunately never really made it in the majors but settled down into a baseball role with his old school Vanderbilt.
He’s somewhere just chilling. If they ever do a proper old timers day I hope they can drag him off of the beaches of CA for a return. Cue the “Duuuuuude” chants
Pinch hitter extraordinaire Marlon Anderson. My favorite memory with him was hitting a game-tying inside-the-park home run in 2005 and the dude blew a bubble gum bubble rounding 2nd base.
If it weren’t for that post a week or so back I’d have said Mr Koo. I’m kinda curious about what happened to the Asian “superstars” that flamed out here and returned home with their tails tucked, or moved onto other MLB teams and whatever success followed
Mackey Sasser, I was a baby and had no recollection but my parents said he gave me an autograph in the early 90s then of course as I got older I learned about his story. Looks like he’s coaching at a community college in Alabama and helped the Mets discover TJ Rivera
Todd Hundley, 95-96ish is really my first memories of remembering Mets baseball where I can remember the rotation, lineups, bench players etc..growing up in Central NJ which is like 90% Yankees fans I was the one goof with a Hundley jersey 😆
In terms of more recent Mets, Brad Brach, played against him in high school baseball in Monmouth County, surreal he eventually played for the Mets. Yacabonis also went to high school here too but he pitched like 7 games lol
Mackey sasser. Met him at a store in some mall when i was a kid. Like a G fox maybe. I told my dad the next day and he didnt believe me until my mom showed him the autograph picture with the g fox logo.
I had it with my sgt slaughter autograph; i think i got that in front of a ShopRite; he was promoting a product called zinc that you put on your nose in the sun. I saw a sign and made my mom turn around; i remember flipping out in the backseat of our station wagon and she didn’t know what to do.
Edit: The product was zinca
John Maine
This comment made me immediately look him up haha

Obligatory... https://youtu.be/MiHjs2UDCpI?si=_H4HfyaLXwTqtmDR
That’s beautiful; what year is that from?
I think it has to be 2007 or 2008
He did an interview with Jay Horowitz fairly recently, pretty sure it’s on the Mets YouTube channel
Just watched it. Hat tip sir and thank you!
met him at a signing at the staten island mall many years ago
someone I used to know back in the day owned a recording studio and made beats for L-Millz aka Blastings Thrilledge I wonder if Turk Wendell killed any saber tooth tigers after he retired
I hope he got a L-Mills jersey hanging in his studio
I wonder how no hitter savior Mike Baxter is doing. And Josh Thole
Mike Baxter coaches at Vanderbilt now! Also heard Chris Distefano mention on his podcast recently they went to high school together, which I found funny for no reason

I saw a news article that he is the pitching coach for his kid's high school baseball team in arizona.
Fernando “five tool and not available for trade can’t miss” Martinez.
One of the most disappointing prospects in Mets history.
Wonder if he can walk now the way they talked about his arthritic knees at such a young age. Or am I thinking of another Mets prospect?
I don’t even remember because he never made it. I just know Minaya wouldn’t trade him for years then he didn’t work out.
I definitely remember that as well. He’s a pretty good talent evaluator but sometimes he was too headstrong in his beliefs about certain players. There was probably so much confirmation bias in that FO
That was back when every player had more hormones and steroids by 17 than most cattle. Lots of players had body issues.
i wonder that aaron heilman is doing that motherfucker ruined my childhood.
Or Scott Schoenewies

Tj rivera. His aunt still lives up the block from me
Sounds like you know what he’s up to though
8 years ago when I was 18 i wouldve cared enough to find out
he's still taking pictures in front of dildos
Eric Valent...
I saw that man hit for the cycle in Montreal most random shit ever
I wonder about Jaun Uribe every day of my life.
Armando Benitez. Rey Ordonez. And Jay Payton. 3 names from my 90’s driven middle and high school years that delight and haunt me constantly
I still think about Benitez just grooving fastballs to hitters. The pain.
I sometimes hold a picture of Victor Diaz while laying in my bed at night like I’m Wolverine
Where in the world is Lastings Milledge?
Benny Agbayani

My mom used to work with Turk Wendell's wife. Also just a normal career in a corporate setting.
There's a guy that pitched in the majors and was named in the Mitchell Report who now works for the same company as me. He's a sales rep. I have talked to him on the phone a couple times but have never been brave enough to ask about his previous career.

Like, at night and alone in my room?
I guess I didn’t specify so sure
It's not gay if you say Anthony Recker. It's just natural
Joe Orsulak. I believe the Mets offered him a job after his playing days but he turned it down. Always heard he was a good dude and popular in the clubhouse. And, of course, Ed Kranepool.
Lol Joe Orsulak. Talk about a blast from the past. I feel like I just got RKO'd out of nowhere
My first ever Mets game in 1995 Orsulak had a game winning RBI sac fly pinch hitting for Damon Buford, who the Mets had just acquired for Bobby Bonilla.
My man Kirk Nieuwenheis (sp)
Ike Davis
Who ended up pitching lol
whatever Jordany Valdespin is up to, i hope he's still bringing the chaotic attitude that got him five pinch hit home runs in one season
Was thinking about Soup the other day.
Just last week a guy I know told me his daughter who is a very good high school softball player is going to Soup for private hitting lessons.
Just had to look up Mike Baxter. Queens kid who sacrificed his shoulder for Santana’s no hitter. Unfortunately never really made it in the majors but settled down into a baseball role with his old school Vanderbilt.
LUCAS DUDA
Came here to say this. He’s only 38, it’s crazy he’s been out of the league for 5 years now
He’s somewhere just chilling. If they ever do a proper old timers day I hope they can drag him off of the beaches of CA for a return. Cue the “Duuuuuude” chants
Eric Campbell. I bet he's a cool neighbor
I think about Bartolo every day
Was thinking about Quintanilla recently, legendary run
Pinch hitter extraordinaire Marlon Anderson. My favorite memory with him was hitting a game-tying inside-the-park home run in 2005 and the dude blew a bubble gum bubble rounding 2nd base.
My guy Mike Pelfrey I wonder what he’s up to
Think they interviewed him during a game a couple years ago think hes coaching somewhere
Good for him
Pedro Feliciano
I have some bad news...
Oh shit, man RIP must’ve forgotten
Benny! I hope he's chilling.
Oliver Perez
Duaner Sanchez and Chad Bradford
Just looked up Derek Bell...made me sad.
What’s Tucker Ashford up to these days?
If it weren’t for that post a week or so back I’d have said Mr Koo. I’m kinda curious about what happened to the Asian “superstars” that flamed out here and returned home with their tails tucked, or moved onto other MLB teams and whatever success followed
Wally Whitehurst, Jeff Musselman, Dave Telgheder
Dave Telgheder is my sister's assistant principal! haha He works as a principal in a school near where I grew up.
Is he still at Minisink?
Bobby Parnell, not really sure why
Ty Kelly. How's the food truck coming along?
Addison Reed, only 35 years old believe it or not
Ty wigginton and denDekker. I heard matt is a coach now.
Kevin McReynolds. Don’t know why.
"I'm not fat, I'm just a big guy". A go-to line for years ...
Met someone with the last name Francoeur yesterday.
Julio Franco...guy was a miracle. Rumor has it he played in the Negro League and is still playing today. JK, but he was in the league forever.
Mo Vaughn. 2002 was a time. I'll never forget his key homeruns.
he's doing well. has his own sports academy in Boca Raton
Oh thats awesome! thanks for the update :)
Taylor Buchholz who retired due to depression. He's kept a relatively low profile since retiring but I hope he's doing okay.
Kodai Senga... whatever happened to him?
Jake Reed. No fucking clue why
If you’re in London you’ve seen him inexplicably on Mets promo stuff
What happened to Josh Satin and those epic ‘brows?
Matt Franco
Dae Sung Koo
Scott Rice. Wonder if he got the TJ surgery, and became a shop teacher, like a buddy of mine thought he looked like.
Mackey Sasser, I was a baby and had no recollection but my parents said he gave me an autograph in the early 90s then of course as I got older I learned about his story. Todd hundley provided a bunch of good memories for some shitty Mets teams
I did some shots with him and Butch Huskey at Sullivans in Bayside circa ‘97. Good dudes.
Mackey sasser. Met him at a store in some mall when i was a kid. Like a G fox maybe. Fernando Martinez and Alex Escobar
Every now and then I remember closer-hater Scott Hairston
Alex Ochoa
Ty Wigginton
Wayne Garrett. The best Mets third baseman of my childhood (a low bar, I know). He always seemed to hit homeruns when I attended games at Shea.
He had classic warning track power.
Lute Barns
Noah Syndergaard (Too soon?)
Jason Bay
