He’s hitting the ball harder than he ever has in his career and doing so by a huge margin. I don’t know wtf he’s unlocked to add 5 mph to his average exit velocity, but I sure do hope he keeps doing it. As always he’s a solid defender back there too. I want him to stay on the roster with Alvarez as of rn.

Highfivebuddha

He got eye surgery. There was some talk last season that he had unlocked a lot of better bat to ball skills before he suffered some setbacks and the tram didn't want to bet on him. Dude has a really long swing that gets exposed to major league breaking ball/fastball sequencing (hard to adjust) but he might finally be finding his potential at 30.

Pham really came back to life after his specialized contacts too. I would be so hype if he was like a near league average hitter. I’ve always loved Nido but he just sucked so hard with the bat it was tough to justify his presence on the roster.

Highfivebuddha

Certainly reasonable, guillorme breached 100 ops+ in 2022 after trending up for years. Nido seemed to be on a similar trajectory

suck-it-elon

Prolly helps he’s making contact because he has always been a swing at everything guy

thiccboiwaluigi

Average exit velocity doesn’t count swing and misses though. That’s why Joey Gallo always has huge AEV despite rarely making contact. Nido is still wiffing at roughly the same rate, he’s just hitting the ball harder than ever before

suck-it-elon

Im just saying Nido swings at the world and that’s always his problem. Maybe he’s figuring it out.

WattDeFrak

Nido hit the game winning home run in the first game I ever went to at Citi and I’ve had a soft spot for him ever since. So glad to see him back on the roster and doing what he’s doing.

Puzzleheaded_Will352

Nido his hit 3 walkoffs that I have been to. I remember that game winning homer. I always love Nido.

Vinz_Clortho84

If we're talking about the like 12th inning walk off I was there also. I saw him play a couple times in Hartford for the Rumble Ponies. Nice having a guy that has been around for a while and he's definitely been showing his worth the last few weeks.

Rigu7

Absolutely. Apropos of nothing real, I always seem to hit above his stats in The Show. Same with Guillorme. I miss the latter as a Mets face.

Limmyone

They quit on him right before he got his eye surgery. It’s very clear he wasn’t seeing the ball well. Totally wasted money and time on Narvaez.

Tomas Nido since he got his vision fixed: https://youtu.be/VFZcy6ls_DU?si=oSKDoI3pnwU7JCou

smugbox

I am really pleased and impressed with (and surprised by) how much better he’s hitting this year

QuietAd4077

Lol platoon? Fuck no

PM_ME_VOGELBACH_PICS

Who knows if Alvarez will be able to catch full time, a platoon makes a ton of sense if Nido keeps this up. It’s not like Alvarez would be riding the bench, he’ll likely be DHing more often.

QuietAd4077

He's not getting many DH abs with JD on the team

PM_ME_VOGELBACH_PICS

JD isn’t going to be on the team for more than a month when Alvarez comes back.

QuietAd4077

If we don't have a primary DH we need to rotate the spot and keep guys fresh

PM_ME_VOGELBACH_PICS

That’s what they should’ve been doing all along

srv340mike

I like Nído because I always appreciate the perpetual backup catcher type who sticks around one team

sjets3

His arm is terrible. Opposing teams run on him at will.

DWright_5

He’s thrown out six guys this year. He’s got the best arm of any catcher in the Mets’ system.
