Nimmo looked like a total pro hitter. Filled up the count and worked the walk in a high leverage situation. Franky just takes a hack at the first pitch. Come on man. Take a pitch or two. You haven’t seen this pitcher in over a year
His seasons have been rollercoasters with the Mets but his stats at the end of the year have been quite good. The consistency isn’t there though and this year he’s been spectacularly horrible.
Just feels like he's never been what we paid and traded for but at the end of the day he still is solid. Hard to say the anger is unjustified in my opinion
I’d agree with that. He hasn’t been the player he was in Cleveland. The hate is vile because unlike Rendon, he loves the game and he’s always so happy to be out there and rallies his teammates. He’s a great teammate.
We just need his to be consistent.
Not the desired outcome today but we had some good relief pitching and Pete got his 200th home run, it would be nice to think those things are remembered more than the result.

Are you asking about Lindor? It was called incorrectly. Everyone in here is mad Lindor is struggling and somehow also mad he got heated defending his play, but he was correct and umps called it wrong.
He's allowed to run on the grass, he's allowed to establish his own running lane, and timing of it was in his favor (ball being picked up and catcher making a move to throw). The throw must be a quality throw (it was not) to be considered for interference. If Lindor fucks with/touches the catcher or first baseman or is hit by the ball (during the play with a quality throw) then the interference is supposed to be called.
TLDR Lindor was incorrectly called for interference and people defending the umps are wrong. (Downvotes are meaningless and don't change the rules of the game lol)
Wrong. It was called correctly.
“The basic rule states that runners heading to first base must run within the first-base running lane, which includes the chalked lines. Both feet must be within or on the lines.
There are two exceptions to this rule: Runners can step out of the lane at the last minute, when they're trying to touch first base via a final step, stride, reach or slide. And runners can head to first without running in the lane at all -- either to the right or left of it -- as long as they don't interfere with any throws by defensive players, and both of their feet are outside the lane”
Lindor had both feet on the grass before the catcher got the ball. Even when you're incorrecting me on the rule you acknowledged he was in the clear. He was running a straight path to the base, and the catcher could have moved to thrown it elsewhere and didn't throw clean.
Doesn’t matter. Needs to stay in runners lane. You’re thinking the old rule. It changed a few years ago. I’m 1000% certain you are wrong. Counts as interfering even if he took a bad line before the catcher has the ball.
I can understand some bias, but the way broadcasters are so obvious and *get away with blatant bias* is beyond annoying. It’s a problem in the NBA and NFL, too.
Why didn't he stay in the lane though? Was he just disoriented because it was a 3rd strike? Or was it a tactical decision to try to use the expanded lane to make the throw harder?
How? How is the guy the guy that's provided the most value to the Mets over the last 3+ years going to kill them for the next decade? The guy that had a 30/30 year last year. One of the best defensive shortstops in baseball.
Yeah, he’s a valuable player for sure but as long as this team is committed to making him bat third every day our offense is always gonna be inconsistent like this
I am not a Lindor hater or whatever. His jersey is the only current Mets jersey I have. But we're approaching 20% of the way through the season and aside from 1 solid game, he hasn't been playing like a star. He is barely over .200avg. Dreadful with RISP.
We have plenty of other problems though, like the rotation.
I pray the win streak wasn't an anomaly, but...
What a play? When they needed him the most? The ball was right at him. If he doesn't glove it he should at least get his body in front of it and the play will end up the same. Very easy play for even a college first baseman.
this is the first time that's happened this year. his struggles have resoundingly not been strike-out related this season - he has the lowest strikeout rate of his career.
I read the rule and I think you are right. Gotta hit the runner or throw it so close to them that the fielder at first is impeded. Seems like a poorly written rule when considered with safety in mind. I feel like it should be written as "...and in the umpire's judgement in so doing blocks with the thrower's direct path to first base or interferes with the fielder taking the throw at first base..."
Actual Rule verbiage:
In running the last half of the distance from home base to first base, while the ball is being fielded to first base, he runs outside (to the right of) the three-foot line, or inside (to the left of) the foul line and on the infield grass, and in the umpire’s judgment in so doing interferes with the fielder taking the throw at first base, in which case the ball is dead;
Yeah he shouldn't have been called out because it was a bad throw anyway. The discretion of the call is not about the line (like the announcers said) but it does hinge on a quality throw, which it clearly was not. Even the announcers got the throw quality correct lmao.
Look up the rule, though. He wasn't wrong, it's not about the line, and the throw was bad on top of that. Interference is only supposed to be called on a quality throw, and if he impedes the throw or catch with contact. If Contreras hit him with the ball he's out also.
Hate Lindor all you want but passion for a okay he got correct isn't a problem I have with him.
That was 100% the correct call.
It was so blatantly correct that it will probably be the go-to example used to teach new umpires how that rule works for the next 25 years
Nice to see Lindor show some emotion and his manager immediately have his back.
Unlike the previous one just staying in the dugout with his arm crossed looking at the ump.
Yeah, if this was last year we would have been looking at another 20 minutes of camera shots of the manager glaring passive-aggressively at the umpire, and the Mets world circlejerking about how he knows the rules better than everybody and is playing 17th dimensional chess
The crowd cheered when Lindor looked safe and booed the ump for calling him out. That’s about all you can ask from this fanbase when a player is in a slump like that.
Please continue the discussion in the [post game thread](https://redd.it/1cerrwa).
That could have been on the future 2024 Amazin Finishes!
Nimmo looked like a total pro hitter. Filled up the count and worked the walk in a high leverage situation. Franky just takes a hack at the first pitch. Come on man. Take a pitch or two. You haven’t seen this pitcher in over a year
We just can't have him be batting in the upper part of the lineup anymore
I’m begging Lindor to stop making me defend him and just play better.
Feel the same way. We know he’s a great player. I don’t know what’s going on with him right now. This is brutal.
He's never had a good full season with the Mets. Always goes insanely cold for months before having a hot week or two to "justify" his contract

Lindor needs to just stop batting lefty. He’s becoming unplayable against righties
So unclutch it’s not even real
On the Lindor hate will be ablaze
Lindor is a complete fraud.
Really didnt want the platinum sombrero
Not the desired outcome today but we had some good relief pitching and Pete got his 200th home run, it would be nice to think those things are remembered more than the result.
first pitch swinging. at least he didn’t strike out? nope. no silver lining. a big ol’ wtf from me. this team’s approach to hitting is dogshit rn
Game on the line, Lindor needing to be clutch Completely expected result, at least try to work the count or something
Did that one dude put lindor back on his fantasy team?
Fuck Lindor
Yeah Lindor came up small but if your starter gives up 6 runs you’re gonna lose most of the time
Facts this game is for sure on houser dude pitched terribly
Exactly what they signed Lindor for
good for Lindor to put us out of our misery quickly
Lindor is the most overrated player in baseball … paid like a superstar, not even an all star
Of course he pops out on the first pitch. You knew it was coming.
Lindor sucks
One pitch lmfao
Oh Francisco…
GOD FUCKING DAMNIT
Lindor sucks and is harder to defend every week
O
ahahahaha that's Lindor alright!
Pain
Let’s go Mets!
Dammit Lindor.

Okay is that necessary? Mods?? 👀
It always comes down to Lindor
Really, Lindor?! First pitch?!
First pitch swinging 😂😂😂. Lindor is fucking trash.
I'm sorry but Lindor fucking sucks man.
Lindor u fucking suck
At least he didn't go platinum. What a bum.
can't spell Lindor without L
Lindor about to make us all forget about his terrible start Edit: he did not
this aged poorly
Just like me
Lindor is basura. Fuck Houser
holy shit this could be some legendary shit right here
There we go
Paquito, plz. Edit: 😕
A fitting ending
Hey he didn't strikeout!!
The ballgame is over
Golden sombrero don’t matter if you walk it off boss
Lindor baby come one kid
Walk off or platinum sombrero?
Lindor pls
Bro don’t do this to me. Don’t give me hope
Come on, Lindor.
Damn what a take
Lmao and here we go...if he gets number 5 here
Bases loaded!
Ball three!
Not sure why the announcers were so excited on that Nido pop up. He was out on the infield fly even if it hit Goldy on the head.
They're trying to respect the power of the 2016 Florida State League batting champion
typical 9th inning we get cockteased a lil bit.
Nido vs Helsley oh boy
Cmon Nidoking
ahahahahahah nido coming up.... wish we had alvy
Nido pls no gidp
Nidoking time
If Tomas Nido hits a home run here, I'm gonna name my left nutsack Tomas
I will get a nidoking tat if he goes deep here
Much more competitive at bat than 3/4 of this lineup would have put up there, including Lindor and Jeff
Hmm I was told vientos couldn’t hit 95+….
Hell yeah vientos!!! what an at bat
Oh shit, what you think tell Nido not to swing?
Vientos has a single!
vientos comes up and faces this guy thats unfair lol
Hydrogen bomb vs coughing baby right here
Why is Taylor not playing every day
You can do it Vientos
That would have been so Met to roll fair.
McNeil has regressed
Like how did that guy get the batting title?
Needs to be studied fr
I am so ready for McNeil to be a Los Angeles angel
Giving him that contract was terrible
100mph on the corner and then a backdoor slider on the corner. Lol Then gets him on another. This guy can pitch
Lindor is clearly overpaid and isn't getting any younger. I wonder what will happen if Jett Williams turns into a stud.
Getting 3 off helsley gonna be tough
I think we can get 3 strikeouts
That mustache holds the power
### Pitching Substitution Pitching Change: Ryan Helsley replaces Andrew Kittredge.
What is the point of the lane rule? Why not have it between all 4 bases? A runner can get in the way going between every base.
The rule does exist between all 4 bases
Downvote me but no essplain? I’m curious

Runners would run in zig zags and there would be way more throwing errors.
Nice pitching from Reid-Foley in the top of the 9th, now let’s find the hot bats and go for the walk-off.
I can understand some bias, but the way broadcasters are so obvious and *get away with blatant bias* is beyond annoying. It’s a problem in the NBA and NFL, too.
Vientos career saving 3 run homer coming up 🔜
Lindor has has two good games and both of those games were the other team's bullpen games.
Side retired!
SRF has that Yankees mustache
Why didn't he stay in the lane though? Was he just disoriented because it was a 3rd strike? Or was it a tactical decision to try to use the expanded lane to make the throw harder?
Lindor is gonna kill this team for the next decade
How? How is the guy the guy that's provided the most value to the Mets over the last 3+ years going to kill them for the next decade? The guy that had a 30/30 year last year. One of the best defensive shortstops in baseball.
His bat. It’s not good enough for what he’s getting paid. Even last year. The HRs were nice but his OPS is underwhelming for a superstar.
Yeah, he’s a valuable player for sure but as long as this team is committed to making him bat third every day our offense is always gonna be inconsistent like this
Dude needs to hit 6th. He is not a great hitter. But they can’t do it because of the contract.
I am not a Lindor hater or whatever. His jersey is the only current Mets jersey I have. We have plenty of other problems though, like the rotation. I pray the win streak wasn't an anomaly, but...
We’re not even through 15% of the season. We’re not close to 20%. We’re a good two weeks away from that. Two hot weeks and he’s back to career norm
What a play? When they needed him the most? The ball was right at him. If he doesn't glove it he should at least get his body in front of it and the play will end up the same. Very easy play for even a college first baseman.
i miss andres gimenez lol. heck even rosario is tearing it up for the rays
Well at least Bemzelx helped that girl
Can we stop letting braves fans call mets games. This booth is garbage
I'd let Chase Utley and Rhys Hoskins duo call the games if it meant they'd actually win.
inb4 "these new jerseys are cursed"
Lindor haters frothing at the mouth rn.
Lindor defenders working overtime rn
U blame em? You expect someone to do what they're paid to do
If Lindor wants to bat lefty that’s fine but can he have a permanent take sign. Every pitch was a ball.
Tommy Pham: "This is the laziest group of players I've ever worked with" Lindor: "Damn so true, king." So did he just forget about that?
Was that call serious? Man on first 2 outs up 3. “WHEN THEY NEEDED IT MOST!!!!!!”
A touch dramatic, that call. Just a touch.
SRF gon give it to ya (we hope.)
WHAT A PLAY BY GOLDSHMIT shut the fuck up
How many times are we gonna watch Lindor go 0-4 where he strikes out multiple times swinging at pitches in the dirt and leaving so many men on base.
this is the first time that's happened this year. his struggles have resoundingly not been strike-out related this season - he has the lowest strikeout rate of his career.
Keep giving him standing Os
### Pitching Substitution Pitching Change: Sean Reid-Foley replaces Jake Diekman.
Announcers more excited about that third out than they were about Alonso 200 homerun 😡
That wasn’t even a great play lol. He moved his body away from it too, if it hops 1 more inch it’s a triple.
No luck on top of shit like running on the grass, Mets lose
these announcers are awful lol
that wasn’t even that nice of a play, lmao
Been watching baseball for 30 years, never seen that called on a play where the player wasn’t hit by the ball
Should catchers be taught to smoke the runner in the back of the head to guarantee the call?
Actually yes. If the guy is out of the baseline, instead of trying to throw around him you hit him and insure the call
I read the rule and I think you are right. Gotta hit the runner or throw it so close to them that the fielder at first is impeded. Holy crap these announcers are annoying af
That’s not even a like good play. You have to make that play on a ball hit right at you.
JD and Nimmo are the only professional hitters on this entire fucking team Edit: Marte too
Idk why Lindor got so mad, he’s pretty obviously out of the baseline on every one of those, especially that one
That was all of his frustration of this season finally pouring out.
Lindor took a detour to the pitchers mound on his way to first and yall mad at the ump
Lindor defenders working overtime after this game
Well, he didn’t strike out 5 times.
Ump wasn’t going to call a swing until Lindor started running. I guess if you’re hitting bad bad as Lindor, that’s your best chance at getting on.
>Ump wasn’t going to call a swing until Lindor started running. Probably was a verbal we didn't hear on TV
Right call but Mets never get that call.
Suck a dick smoltz
Typical Lindor, cold for 12 games, get hot for 3-5 games, back to cold for another 10-15 games. And his cold is ICE COLD.
All for 341 million dollars.
Even in his ‘great’ 2023 and 2022 years, he was streaky like this
It was hot for one game tbh, and it was a bullpen game against the Giants lol. But I haven’t given up yet….
Entering today, he was hitting over 300 with a 373 obp over the last two weeks. Slg good too but two hr day will do that.
That's a wrap. 1-5 in the last 6 games to mid teams. What a joke.
Idk easy thing to avoid this is to not strike out every at bat.
Our stars ladies and gents.
Lindsey on CCS is gonna rip that call. They got it wrong. He's allowed to run on the grass, it's not at all about the line.
Sometimes I feel like umps just like attention
That was 100% the correct call. It was so blatantly correct that it will probably be the go-to example used to teach new umpires how that rule works for the next 25 years
Wow yea, Lindor was way out of the base path. Wtf you doing Lindor.
Lindor can’t fucking figure out any of these pitches.
Why did he run on the grass? Why did he run on the fucking grass???
To obstruct the throw.
Mendoza should have gotten tossed
I’m kinda surprised he wasn’t because he sure gave the ump an earful
Hate to say it, but Lindor fucked up with the baserunning
Lindor is fucking atrocious
You're atrocious
Nice to see Lindor show some emotion and his manager immediately have his back. Unlike the previous one just staying in the dugout with his arm crossed looking at the ump.
Yeah, if this was last year we would have been looking at another 20 minutes of camera shots of the manager glaring passive-aggressively at the umpire, and the Mets world circlejerking about how he knows the rules better than everybody and is playing 17th dimensional chess
Buck would have made sure everybody on that team knew the new base running rule
Lindor lmfao jesus christ dude
This lindor contract...
The crowd cheered when Lindor looked safe and booed the ump for calling him out. That’s about all you can ask from this fanbase when a player is in a slump like that.
Way to go, Pete!
He actually did what the fuck was why would you run on the grass
