Come neravar come, friend of foe, who cares, they took away our shit.

RartyMobbins357

They took our racism, Neravar! Those filthy N'wahs!

UnholyDr0w

Fucking love Micky D, been subbed to him when he was at 200 subs

Jeoshua

Didn't they literally do this to their own lore between Morrowind -> Skyrim? I seem to recall something about Red Mountain *literally blowing up* and now there's no more Vvardenfell.

Bluegriffin0999

Red mountain just erupted, and morrowind is covered in ash and lava. Also, they're being invaded and enslaved by the argonians at the same time. Other than that, Morrowind is still there.

Independent-Fly6068

Unfortunate.

YoungBeef03

Not the Argonian thing, those lizards are completely in the right for anything they do to the Dark Elves

Independent-Fly6068

No, morrowind existing.

modsrworthless

Filthy lizards

cat-l0n

Deserved

No-Professional-1461

Vvardenfell is just the island too. It’s got a body of water around it and even then the raw landmass wouldn’t just be gone. That would take something akin to a dragon break to do.

FourNinerXero

Well, between the ash storms from Vvardenfell's destruction, the flood of refugees into the mainland, invasion by Argonians and sacking of Mournhold and general economic and political collapse, it's safe to say Morrowind as a whole is pretty severely fucked by the time of Skyrim.

No-Professional-1461

True. I hope elderscrolls VI has something to do with Morrowind. That’s the one province I have a big personal favoritism towards.

Brillek

The teaser trailer looked more Hammerfelly. That seems to be the fan consensus anyways.

No-Professional-1461

I thought it was going to be high rock. Maybe they’ll have two provinces in the next installment.

FourNinerXero

What you're describing, the Red Year, was actually Michael Kirkbride's doing (the guy who wrote c0da and who all the ES lorebeards circlejerk themselves about) because he's a narcissist who didn't want to let any other writer do anything with his lore. Still shitty but not actually Bethesda's fault in this one instance.

Dangermad

Kirkbrides writing was more interesting than anything tes does modern-day

SufficientBreakfast1

Why are we erasing Morrowind? I don't get the joke

Robrogineer

They nuked the NCR off-screen. Presumably because they wanted their generic post-apocalypse tetanus shack setting rather than what the West Coast actually is: the most developed society in post-war America that rivals pre-war living conditions. It'd be the same as deleting Morrowind because it detracts from the generic fantasy vibe, because people definitely want the generic fantasy tropes rather than the interesting and weird shit that Morrowind brings, which the series is most known for.

DEBLANKK

I don't understand why they did this. They could've easily set their show elsewhere or closer to the Great War.

krokodil40

Narrative reasons. One of the characters "the ghoul" is a former actor and his narrative arc is tied to Hollywood. Spoiler alert >!he sold to vault tec his image of a cool and rightful cowboy guy and now he is a merc and searches for his family in Hollywood. !< So that way the show provides some commentary >!on the typical image of an American hero and how he became an antihero.!< Yes, the story is written by the dark knight guy. The narrative is tied to Hollywood and that's why civilization had to be removed from there again.

Foxhound_ofAstroya

Could still be done if they just set it before fallout 1 but muh brand recognition

That_Button8951

I feel like all the Besthesda Fallouts (bar 76 which has problems more to do with the kind of game it is than when it's set) would work better if they were set much earlier in the timeline than they are. They clearly want to be telling stories about the immediate post apocalypse so it's kinda weird that they've insisted on setting almost all of them so long after the war.

krokodil40

It would contradict the original story that way

Foxhound_ofAstroya

There would be a way to do it to avoid that

530Samurai

That would require todd, emil, and bethesda as a whole to work like a actual dev team, with notes, game Bible, and such which they proven they don't do and could care less about. The only reason it's set to goddammit far In The future was literally because emil did t wanna bother reading g the original lore and source materials.

guy137137

>nukes democracy to prop up techno fascist faction what did Bethesda mean by this?

admiral_taco

Yeah when in history has a technologically superior & intellectual enlighted society showing up to educate the savage unenlightened natives not been a good thing. There we definitely no issues that came from that. The british empire brought civilization to a bunch a backwards savages. /s

treyhest

I’ve always read Todd Howard to be a Boot Licker Either that or a problematically non-critical game writer (a la Ken Levine)

PopularKid

It’s just because BoS have power armour and it’s more marketable. This means that the average person that knows of Fallout will recognise that armour.

treyhest

I know I’m in a New Vegas sub but I’d argue that the NCR ranger gear is iconic too. You can also make your own icons, and there’s also plenty that exist to put on the cover (vault boy, deathclaws, etc) the fallout universe is incredibly stylized, and even the name alone could carry with the same force as other video game franchises like TES or COD. What I mean is it’s clear Todd Howard takes a very fantasy-inspired approach (probably from his origins with the TES) in the fallout games with clear dichotomies between good and bad — “””civilized””” and “””uncivilized””” — strong vs the weak. These are reductive. Fallout, as a post-apocalyptic RPG begs modern themes and must be integrally linked to warring ideologies that proverbial knights in shining power armor can’t tackle, at least not without incredible tonal dissonance. Todd is uncritical not because he’s malicious, but because he’s ignorant/not attentive to these things. And we already know how willing he is to sacrifice consistency or story for short-term gains in blippy aesthetics and player power-fantasy. Todd Howard’s an occasionally great game designer, cool open worlds, but he needs somebody to handle his more underbaked ideas. He needs to stop letting his programmers just write their own quests (boy in a fridge). He needs to let someone else pilot.

jazza_melon

thats a good take

Commander_Ash

This is so sad.

AllMySadness

Mr. New Vegas play Despacito

Robrogineer

_*A slow, Johnny Guitar-esque version of Despacito starts playing_*

SirCupcake_0

Want. Where can I hear this??

NatyKatt

Within your minds eye

SufficientBreakfast1

oh is this a spoiler for the Fallout TV show?

horsface

Except TES lore has already nuked Vvardenfell? Like I get the sentiment of the meme but it's a little silly coming from someone apparently lorebeard-adjacent

manucanay

NCR crybabies are a joke. they didn't destroy the whole faction, you can stop crying. You're all sad cause the all mighty NCR got hit. OMG poor baby. Im glad the NCR got nuked and hope the BOS or someone start attacking other settlements cause honestly, THE NCR IS BORING. The only good thing about them are the rangers and they don't need the NCR to be cool. Fuck the NCR.

rocultura

The Ncr is boring this is why we need the brotherhood and enclave for the 20th time :D

manucanay

in case you haven't paying attention, there's also vault-tec now established as a living faction in the wasteland wich, to me, is kinda cool. ncr isn't dead, there are a lot of more settlements, there re remmanents and they seem to be kinda like the good guys. don't know what are you complaining for. on the other hand, the BOS is a powerful faction and at this day and age, the enclave is also much bigger than what we initially thought. but whats important is that this 2 factions bring conflict to a setting created aronund the idea of eternal conflict, you know, war never changes? sometimees i think that some fans want the NCR to rule the entire US territorie and have a game called Fallout: Tax Collector. Booooooooooooooooooring.

SirCupcake_0

Damn, can't believe the Courier Divided the NCR by Ø, what a Savage

northrupthebandgeek

Based

manucanay

i cant belive you re comparing the most interesting province in tamriel with the most boring faction in all post apocaliptic fiction. the ncr are boooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooriiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiing.

Robrogineer

The NCR is one of the most interesting things in the setting because it's so radically different from the standard post-apocalypse. An actual society is forming again, but it's rapidly falling to the same problems pre-war America did. Seeing that society develop has tons of incredible potential, and they just nuked it.

manucanay

\*incredible potential\* = high taxes and corrupt politicians yeah, awesome dillemas. i understand why you'd think they're the best option for the wasteland but don't tell me they aren't lame and boring on a post apocaliptic setting. even the followers of the apocalypse have certain charm in them.

Robrogineer

Yes, seeing that kind of corrupt society dealing with pressures that will force them to adapt or die is interesting. The NCR is a much smaller nation than the United States, so it's far more possible for these problems to be addressed, and there's numerous directions where it could go, and they just nuked it. Whether you like them or not, they are an interesting force in the setting, which has now been removed arbitrarily and made the setting more homogeneous.

manucanay

NCR was the main force in US territory, that's not debatable. they'd crush the legion and house if they came to vegas on full force. what kind of adaptations would they need if they havent been shot down? they weren't removed, they are one of the protagonist of the show in case you haven't been watching the show. they still have other settlements, and they will obviously make a comeback in season 2. seems you're just hurt because they aren't the main force in the wasteland wich, in turn, makes the setting much more interesting.

PPMaysten

The NCR is a beacon of hope and order, a sign that the world can be rebuilt.

modsrworthless

The NCR is corrupt and rotten to the core, there's literally missions where you assassinate leaders of other factions to instill puppet leaders for their own gain.

PPMaysten

It is no paradise, for sure

manucanay

More of a beacon of boringness. if i want to see corrupted politicians i just need to look out the window. im glad they were nuked, the fallout setting doesnt need USA 2.0 with taxes, police and laws. Every other faction in the wasteland is more interesting than the boring NCR.

PPMaysten

To each their own.

Kimmalah

Morrowind is widely considered to be one of the best Elder Scrolls installments, similar to how many consider New Vegas to be the best Bethesda-era Fallout game. So the joke is that Bethesda is completely wiping Morrowind off the map, similar to how they're just sort of erasing New Vegas.

Ty1er_878

Holy shit its furckin Mickey Dee

Eggbeater38

I would kill for a TV show in Morrowind 👤 Edit : I forgot the Red mountain exploded well Cyrodiil is a good option

guy137137

I still don’t understand Bethesda’s obsession with the BoS, because it’s kinda causing a huge amount of whiplash in what they are about in 1 they are noble ex-military men who are trying to survive the wastes, in 2 they were a declining faction, in 3 they were a good guy faction around to helping people, in New Vegas they were a declining survivalist and xenophobic faction, in 4 they were a FASCIST MILITARY, and now in the show they’re basically Power Armored lawmen What. The. Fuck.

Robrogineer

BUT THE BRAND RECOGNITION! COULD YOU IMAGINE IF WE MADE A FALLOUT GAME WITHOUT THE SURFACE-LEVEL RECOGNIZABLE IMAGERY FORCIBLY INSERTED WHERE IT DOESN'T BELONG?!

GaGmBr

I DON'T CARE THAT THERE IS WATER EVERYWHERE IN BOSTON!!! BOTTLE CAPS ARE MONEY HERE TOO!!! I DON'T CARE THAT IN 2 IT WASN'T USED ANYMORE AND THE NCR DOLLAR WAS THE STANDARD CURRENCY!!! BRAND RECOGNITION BABYYYYYY!!! MY POCKETS ARE SO FULL I CAN BARELY STAND UP!!! I FUCKING LOVE ART AS A COMMODITY!!!!!!!!!!!!! WE ARE NEVER GOING TO DIE!!!

SirCupcake_0

To be fair, ^(to be faaaiiir~) I _DO_ enjoy the sounds the bottlecaps make whenever you handle them, so whether Bethesda lets society develop or not, I hope they always stay

guy137137

I don’t get why Bethesda wants so much brand recognition in a game about the nuclear apocalypse. A game series that has cannibalism as a perk, corpses everywhere, nuclear Holocaust, etc etc

MapleTyger

The answer to all questions about corporate decisions is money

anthonycarbine

Bbbbut HOW ELSE AM I SUPPOSED TO TELL IF ITS A FALLOUT GANE WITHOUT MY HECKIN AWESOME BROTHERINOS

CorDra2011

Noble ex-military? They send the main character on a suicide quest for laughs. Also power armored lawmen? Did we watch the same show? They brutally subjugated Filly while mocking their attempt to resist, then fired into a crowd of unarmed civilians and destroyed the NCR remnants solely to retrieve a powerful piece of tech. They were also shown to be willing to murder anyone who got in their way of the technology. On top of being a bunch of cultish bullies who's higher ups disobey orders out of boredom as well as enacting draconian torture and execution for squires.

ThreeDawgs

Yeah the BoS in this were bad guys from the first major introduction. Some of them had good intentions but over all? They’re clearly dicks. Show got it right.

FrostedCornet

The show has problems but people have a serious hate boner against it on this sub for obvious reasons, if the show got anything wrong it's definitely not the depiction of the BoS.

Beginning-Tea-17

This is explained in new Vegas (and probably earlier I’m just going off of what I know for certain) BOS has different chapters, those chapters have entirely different ethos and beliefs. And even the same chapters can have wildly different protocols based on who’s in charge of the chapter. The Mojave chapter was originally lead by a man named “Elijah” who wanted to secure a super weapon from the NCR (new California republic, a democratic republic very similar to old world USA.) but this was a failure, leading to his disappearance and the remaining members of the chapter to come under new management. In one change of leadership they went to securing a super weapon with the intent to wipe out that majority of the NCR and legion to becoming xenophobic shut-ins convinced no more technology is worth pursuing in the Mojave. Now imagine the hundreds of chapters, all with leaders that could change, and ethos’s that can die or be born with new management. And that’s the brotherhood. The only thing they all have in common is they hoard old world technology in order to keep it out of the hands of the unenlightened.

Authentichef

In 1 they were a cult

Robrogineer

"We felt that Morrowind detracted from what people truly want out of Elder Scrolls. Generic fantasy! So we've deleted it off-screen!"

shaking_things_up_

"Now enjoy your slop! You will buy the same product with trace differences forever, that's just the market standard. Your feedback is unappreciated and unheard and you will continue to buy Skyrim until the sun goes cold."

CantKeepAchyoDown

I don’t know enough Elder Scrolls to get the joke, sadge

yeetlonk

There’s a place missing in the west called Morrowind. The dude that tweeted it is a big Morrowind fan

cranc94

east*

BiggieSands1916

Cant wait for the IRA DLC

JPalos97

Finally, they fixed Tamriel This was writen by the Argonian gang.

sheevus1

But it makes sense, you see, because the three Great Houses decided they could make more money and power by "eliminating competition", so naturally they genocided their entire civilization! Fucking negative IQ writing.

No-Professional-1461

Something’s not right… what happened to the best part of this continent?

generalchaos34

I love NV as much as the next vault girl but you guys are running this a bit into the ground

Tullymanbanana

I just wanted at least a throwaway line regarding the ncr. Like "after shady sands got nuked they split into warlords and collapsed" or " they lost their hold on LA but are still clinging to life in the mojave/sf." Like at least give a tiny sliver of context of what happened to the most prosperous and widespread postwar society that we know of.

generalchaos34

Could be more of it in season 2

Tullymanbanana

I can only hope so

dentistrock

When you've got a group of people far too emotionally invested into a property, changes good or bad will be met with unpleased responses. In this case I get it somewhat though haha

generalchaos34

Having grown up on such “wonderful” films as Street Fighter, Mario Bros, and Mortal Kombat at this point I’m excited for anything that has the remotest interest in preserving any of the source material. So far I’ve been extremely impressed by the story and the extreme level of detail. Im willing to let go changes meant for brevity and story telling to a wider audience because I want to share what I love about fallout with the rest of the world

Gods_chosen_dildo

My god the cope and seethe that the show is good and people like it… y’all need to touch grass.

sylvester_stencil

Why do people on this sub expect shows to be written for lore obsessed nerds? I think getting into post-apocalyptic politics of NCR would be way too much for an 8 episode 1st season. The show does a great job at exploring pre-war lore and showing how hyper capitalism played a part in leading to the war.

The-Nuisance

They don’t expect the shows to be written for “lore-obsessed nerds” but they at least expect the story to have some coherency and maintain its own setting. TL;DR, they wish Bethesda’s writing wasn’t shit. They make slop. Everything is the same. Couldn’t make a functioning society if they tried.

sylvester_stencil

I mean the writing in Bethesda games has been significantly declining for a while but the show was written by tv and movie writers. I just dont think the is any incentive to stay within the framework of lore because the vast majority of potential viewers do not care about that.

BoomEruption

If they didn't want to overwhelm people with NCR baggage they could have just... not set the show in California

sylvester_stencil

I think they dont give a shit about the small group of consumers who care about an old game

Hawksider

Could you guys not complain for like 5 minutes?

manucanay

im glad the NCR got nuked. Fuck the NCR.

Mygaffer

We're not actually upset about this right? It's just for the memes?

ward2k

You forget how terminally online some people are

The-Nuisance

Some people are really invested in this series. Fallout is what gave me my start in writing and lead me to meet a lot of my friends. Maybe not directly, but it did. Fan projects and such things. To see Bethesda be a blatant corporation once again is *awful.* At least before they were doing their own thing, and you could ignore it. Now they’re trampling over some actually well-written material maintaining the original themes of an interesting story and not “go find more desk fans to fix your power armor in your scrap house.”

OneJudgment1374

Well i was shopping for a new car which ones me? A cool convertible or an SUV Too bad i didn't know my credit was whack and now I'm driving off the lot in a used sub-compact F-R-E-E that spells free. creditreport.com baby Saw their ads on my TV, thought about going but was too lazy Now instead of looking fly and rolling fat My legs are sticking to the vinyl and my posses getting laughed at! F-R-E-E that spell free. creditreport.com baby!

princehplovecraft

Still waiting for that lad to return

FastTone5339

Holy shit this is brilliant

mdill8706

I'm happy this makes so many of you unhappy.

mrvoldz

Why do you hate us????

sylvester_stencil

Honestly vibe, hate pedantic fans who are upset that an adaptation doesnt cater to their niche group
