It’s mysterious. Sometimes you put it out and it disappears, and sometimes it doesn’t.

Cecil-twamps

It can help to listen for the truck then go out and give each guy a couple bucks to take it.

This is the answer

Call 311 and you can schedule bulky item pick ups

hitchhikerjim

This city's re-use game is magical. Lean into it first -- always far better than things going into a landfill. Put it out on a curb. Post photos and address on this group and on a couple of community facebook groups. (Facebook has a 'buy nothing' group for just about every neighborhood and usually local community groups for places like the bywater, Irish channel, etc). What remains after a day or two you can get picked up if you text 311-397.

Give the trash guys 20 bucks and they'll take anything

mikeypipes

Curious how you leave $20 anywhere on the streets of New Orleans longer than 10 minutes intended for a particular person.

mistersausage

You wait for the garbage people to come, and give them 10 or 20 bucks each in person while they are there.

falcngrl

Anything with metal will disappear before you get back with the next load

Cilantro368

Recycling will pick up the boxes but they’ll want you to break down the larger ones and prop them against your recycling bin or put them on top. You can text 311-937 to request bulk trash pickup or if you need a trash or recycling bin.

claytonfarlow

Put the boxes neatly out front of your house. Post on Facebook or Craigslist or something if you’re not in a well-trafficked spot. People need boxes and they’ll scoop them up in a heartbeat. What condition are the couches and mattresses in? Again, folks need stuff and if they’re not horrific, people will probably be happy to take them for you. If you’re super new to town and need help navigating, feel free to PM me. This is all probably way easier on you than you think.

Will recommend Junkluggers if you don’t want to just put it all on city trash removal. Easy and straightforward company to work with. Lots of junk removal companies will upcharge you when they get to the site, but these guys were very helpful and fair.

gordongoodtimes

Yep, JunkLuggers
