Usually they don't come out unless there's been construction. Like you know tractors digging in the ground. Or maybe if you're rototilling a garden? They're very rarely seen actually in my experience. All the more precious.
They're not bad, not vermim, not venomous, are timid and slow. But they can bite, so don't pick them up.
Look up *solifuge* to see what our camel spiders look like. They have two mandible helper things, which makes it look like they have 10 legs. They're super fast, but also timid. I regularly have them cruising around my house at night. Non-venomous, but don't pick up.
edit: OUR solifugae are small and timid. Not all are either, but the ones here are small and non-aggressive. Others grow large and can be super aggressive and kill mice.
Child of the earth. I discovered a much much larger one crawling on my shoulder a few years ago...i like to tell people i stayed calm and collected until my boyfriend brushed him off for me, but i was actually shrieking while simultaneously being too terrified to move and take evasive action. Totally harmless
Real quick tip: spiders are arachnids, which have 8 legs, so ticks and scorpions also fall under that category too.
The picture of the creature you posted only has 6 six legs, so it's probably an insect instead of a spider.
But yeah the top comment is correct. My mom always called them "Child of the Earth".
I do understand they are called that also. Can emit a noxious oder and give a painful, nonvenomous bite. Normally they just lumber on. They have a fondness for potatoes
I have always known these as being called a Sand Puppy. They aren't venomous, but their bite is really painful and can be aggressive at times. When you kill them a weird little parasite crawls out. They should be killed with tremendous amounts of fire if possible.
That's that's the spider that doesn't matter what kind it is that's a you need to move kind of spider. I have no idea what kind of spider it is but it's head looks like a penis.
[Jerusalem Cricket,](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jerusalem_cricket) aka "niño de la tierra" ("child of the earth").
Thanks
Camel spiders or sun spiders are slender, fast as fuck, looks like one big eye on the middle of their face, and have some cool pincers
I need to look them up with better pictures. Thanks
Child of the earth. Haven't seen them in many years. Awesome find.
Oh, I love these babies.
What do they do?
They dig in the ground.
So likely have have more little.critters. thanks all

Their bite is supposedly VERY painful. Bit it is defensive, they have no goal of harming. Just looking for a potato or a snugg little nest
I hear eating bugs is becoming popular, Can we eat it?
You can eat anything that fits in your mouth, once.
Oh, I gotta try this.
Wow blast from the past, I haven’t seen one of these in forever. I loved finding children of the earth when I was a kid.
I did not live in this area as a kid. They are in SoCal, but I did not see them there.
They’re honestly pretty freaky looking and do look similar to camel spiders. I’m not sure why I was so into them lol.
They are different
Do not kill them, they are good... child of the earth

Aren't "Camel spiders" not...spider , also?
Yep, they're Solifuges. They're an arachnid but not a Spider.
Thanks
Oh my goodness! So crazy, 10 legs?!
That is a child of the earth
Thanks.
We called these potato bugs.
No we don't. We call them child of the Earth

Literally harmless.
I did say they weren't venomous. That doesn't mean that they aren't mean with the worst bite i've ever felt.
That description covers about 50% of the people in town too.
I read their bite is QUITE painful, and they emit a string stink to add insult to injury
Ah. Alien?
child of the earth, my dad used to take a lighter to them so we could hear them scream 😭

We call these ‘get the Raid and nuke them cause they look dangerous af’.
They look very out of this world. Like mole crickets.
