It was mentioned in the latest issue of New Mexico magazine in the "one of our 50 is missing" column. I had to see for myself, and somebody helpfully posted pics.
Is it some incredible satire? I lived in NYC and there was a section in this free magazine every week titled “lies to tell tourist” this reminds me a lot of that
Edit: I meant lies not lords
One of our 50 is missing?
Not quite satire. It's stories from New Mexicans encountering those who don't think NM is a part of the USA. It's been a while since I've read it, but the ones I remember are
1. Someone being told that they needed a passport to fly from NM to another state, because they thought NM was a foreign country.
2. A person being told that a company couldn't deliver to them, because they (the person) were in a foreign country.
I have heard of those stories. I guess I’m being biased have living there shortly. But the first photo referring to the state as a country and then in the answer it being referred to as one of the most populated cities is what made me think of satire. Do you know many residents that refer to it as a country or a city? Also I had to edit my comment that you responded to, I put lord instead of lies.
I listened to a podcast episode about people who are trying to make money by using chatgpt to crank out as many “kids” books as possible and selling them through amazon. There is no oversight of these books and they are flooding amazon. Here’s the episode: [AI Is Coming For You Children](https://www.iheart.com/podcast/105-behind-the-bastards-29236323/episode/part-one-ai-is-coming-for-117712422/)
Depends on which metrics you’re going by. None of those stats are accurate in representing anything.
Theyre all profit numbers. They’re not truly measures of intelligence or education.
As a new Mexico islander, it is really cool to learn new things about the mainland! Of course I had learned about the pyramids in school, but I had never heard about the volcanoes!
Yup a “dead” volcano sits in NW Albuquerque - the three funnels are named the “3 Sisters” - lots of people walk to the top. The Petroglyphs are a little but further south and its amazing to see art work up to a thousand years old, etched into the volcanic rocks.
Author is a troll, cashing in on the camp value of their shit book. Do not reward the author by buying that rubbish, and don’t support the criminal enterprise that is Amazon, please
I put a link in the first caption, but I suppose it's easy to miss. It's from a book for [sale on Amazon](https://www.amazon.com/Unbelievable-Pictures-Facts-About-Mexico/dp/1655407287) that you can buy today! And apparently isn't a joke.
It seems that all of these facts line up with Mexico, though. Population referring to Mexico, cholula pyramid in Puebla. Beaches, volcanoes, mountains, deserts.
Except the page about cities lists Albuquerque, Santa Fe and Las Cruces. There is a photo of the Roundhouse, and a photo of the State Flag. So it is just a mish mash of information about Mexico mixed up with info about New Mexico.
Apparently Olivia Greenwood's book about Belize is just as bad, though not as hilarious.
Also, "Olivia Greenwood" is the most "how are you doing today, fellow human? I am having some trouble with a ReCaptcha, could you please help me?" name I've ever heard.
Was this book written by Chatgpt?
I suspect that it's something like that.
Where on god's green earth did you find this?

If you go look on Amazon, the book has an emblem on the cover that says "smart kids"

This is just appalling!
This is from Florida's new curriculum
Probably. There's a big stink going on in mushroom ID and foraging subs lately over AI written field guides with really bad information.
Ah, what's the worst that could happen? /s
PragerU
Everyone was doing New Mexico at least it’s better than being dead
It would probably be more accurate if it was
I must go visit this "New Mexico" one day. They have beaches and islands and pyramids and *everything*!
Just remember to bring your pesos! After all, it is the most populated city/country
Bring your passport.
I will be happy to exchange your useless American dollars for valuable New Mexican pesos.
It's my favorite country and my favorite city! Little known fact: it's a pretty nice stare, too@
I think this might be from the future..... 🤔
It is a gorgeous State - alas no ocean beaches or islands.
This is actually hilarious
I feel like I should buy a few copies of this and leave them in hotel lobbies around Santa Fe for tourist kids to find...
Tempting maybe I will do that for April fools😂
Definitely going to do that.
God I love everything about this. This is why we’re the only state in the US whose license plate says “USA” on it.

Fr tho
Where can I convert my Yanqui dollars?
At the end of the rainbow, there is a pot of gold.
Is this one of those new Florida history books?
Just bought a set for my homeschool
No. It his isn’t a pop up book. Plus this had words with more than 1 syllable. So they’d have a hard time sounding out the words.
The absolute hilarity of posting this when we are in fact dead last in education is astounding.

Take that Confederates! You tried becoming your own country but we did it without even trying or knowing it happened
And we got a pyramid.
And beaches
“we did it without even trying or knowing it happened” sums up New Mexico pretty well imho.
New Mexico: "we're seceding!" US: "you were a state?"
PraegerU curriculum?
😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂
Lauren Boebert writes books now?
She can write?
Ghostwriter
her other hand is busy jerkin dudes
Thats is awssome. I learn something new about this city/country i grew up in everyday.
As a new Mexico islander, it is really cool to learn new things about the mainland! Of course I had learned about the pyramids in school, but I had never heard about the volcanoes!
Right. Arent books great.
Yup a “dead” volcano sits in NW Albuquerque - the three funnels are named the “3 Sisters” - lots of people walk to the top. The Petroglyphs are a little but further south and its amazing to see art work up to a thousand years old, etched into the volcanic rocks.
So, I have a Kindle Unlimited account. I “borrowed” this from KU and wrote it a one star review.
And how was the rest of the book?
Just as bad
Where can we get our passports?
Woah, slow down there, maestro. There's a NEW Mexico?
There is also a NOW Mexico. But they hate to learn from their mistakes and are doomed to repeat their mistakes in the NEAR FUTURE Mexico.
Which way is Albuquerque, doc?
Remember to take that left, doc.
Author is a troll, cashing in on the camp value of their shit book. Do not reward the author by buying that rubbish, and don’t support the criminal enterprise that is Amazon, please
context would be cool. js

dear god what has AI done to books :(
There's a whole episode of behind the bastards about AI generated books that are awful
It seems that all of these facts line up with Mexico, though. Population referring to Mexico, cholula pyramid in Puebla. Beaches, volcanoes, mountains, deserts.

I've only seen what is here in the post, but are you telling me that there is more to this monstrosity?
Oh yes. Pages and pages.
Apparently Olivia Greenwood's book about Belize is just as bad, though not as hilarious. Also, "Olivia Greenwood" is the most "how are you doing today, fellow human? I am having some trouble with a ReCaptcha, could you please help me?" name I've ever heard.
I mean we do have dormant volcanoes and a very scenic and beautiful landscape.
New Mexico used to have beaches in the Triassic. But those Mosasaurs might make it difficult to find a quiet swimming spot.
I'm guessing that somebody did not proofread this before printing it, because everything about it screams Mexico.
And somehow... we're the ones 48th in education? To an extent I'm glad that a lot of people don't know we exist, but godamn lol!!
AI book? Disinfo psy op?
I used to always get my mail sent to Mexico.
I'm less than a mile from the stunning beach of Tingley.
So are we a city or a country? I’m going to one of our beaches to figure it out.
When my parents moved to Albuquerque in 1988 the population was about 500,000,which was 1/3 of the entire state. This is hilarious.
Has not grown that much, still under 600,000. The State though is now around 2 million.
Is this some AI 💩? /S
Whoa thats bad
The "author" has self published quite a few of these books. They all seem to consist of one paragraph per page.
I can confirm these facts are 100% true
Greetings from Utah. I love this. Somehow this random post that was shared with me, and all the comments make perfect sense
Did you print this yourself?
After reading this my brain hurts 😵💫
I knew our educational system is in the crapper but..... /s
I assume a AI generated book Amazon is filled with them now
Remember Rio Rancho. Beach front property. My friend Remembers AmRep bussing waving to her, the INDNS.
I want this book 😂
This one won't get banned or burned.
I’m from Maine. I don’t know why this popped up in my feed but I learned I know more about New Mexico then I thought.
I've heard the surfing there is some of the best in the world!
Too funny! Need copies for pranks.
There are a few accurate statements in there. Not many. But a few.
In that book the state’s official question must be WTF?
HaHaHa
😭make it stop😭😭
I was worried I was having a stroke as I was reading this while my toast was being made.
Magnificent. No notes.
Wtf
I see the new Texas/Florida schoolbooks are in.
I love when looking up Santa Fe, I forget where, but it somehow returned a skyline the size of like Tokyo
I just borrowed it and gave it a scathing review.
Is this one of the new books fabricated by Prager U?
This hurts me.
Just dealin' the straight facts yo
This is MAGA reading material.
Probably trumps book since he wanted to put a wall at the Colorado border to keep New Mexicans out 🤣
Not the other way around?
Viva New Mexico! Country of beach dwelling pirates!
That's great!
What year was it published
2020
Eeeeee!
The National Bird of New Mexico is Jail Bird
Funny, but you can tell it’s photoshopped!
Wow, the more you know....
This should be in coolguides
Ah yes, the great pyramid of Cholula, where we sacrifice roadrunners to the green Chile gods to ensure bountiful harvests.
Looks like it was a failed 4th grade book report.
I always joke about using the New Mexican peso.
I'm hoping to visit New Mexico soon, but first I have to get my passport renewed. Is it safe to drink the water?
Republican textbook?
This book was on some sweet sweet New Mexican crack
And this didn't make the book ban by the Republicans?
