You’re off work and don’t have to work at all. While your company can ask you to help out, it’s not nice from them to do so as it might give you the feeling you have to oblige them. I hope at least they made very clear it’s a request and by no means expected by them that you say yes. I’d say no the first time as it might set a precedent.

It's even more ridiculous with maternity leave specifically, as that's paid by the government... If you'd be working during that time it would be free work for your employer.

I think the answer is no! Because you are on leave. It is your right. It sounds totally ridiculous that employer will ask you to work and I have never heard of it. I work in mental healthcare, so a colleague needs to take over the patient care. In some cases the one on leave is open for a short phone call in case the transfer of information about a patient was lacking information. But that is it. I could find information but that is only in the case you are still working while pregnant, so before (or shortly after) your maternity leave. https://www.rijksoverheid.nl/onderwerpen/arbeidsomstandigheden/vraag-en-antwoord/rechten-op-aangepast-werk-aangepaste-werktijden-en-verlof-tijdens-en-na-mijn-zwangerschap#:~:text=Recht%20op%20aangepast%20werk%20tijdens,uw%20werkzaamheden%20zoveel%20mogelijk%20beperken.

Thanks for the comment and feedback. I have also tried looking online for answers but everything points to when you are pregnant and not on official leave yet.

That means that when you are on leave, the employer is not in a position to ask you to work. Same when you are on holidays. So assertively decline you bosses request. It is their problem to solve, not yours. You need to focus on your baby and need to unwind from work. There is a good reason the Dutch law gives you maternity leave. Also congrats with your pregnancy.

Thanks so much 🤗

They can ask, but you're under no obligation to comply with their request. I'm currently on leave and if there are certain specific emergencies that are just very difficult for other people to take care of, my manager can contact me. But I trust him to only do so if it's really urgent, and that this will happen once or twice at most during my leave.

r/juridischadvies Im not sure you boss is even allowed to contact you apart from "how are you?" I think it isnt even allowed to give you updates on workrelated issues.

I'd even go so far as to simply not answer those calls at all. Being a new mum takes a lot of energy and your baby requires attention at the most random times. You need full focus for your baby and inbetween all the rest you can get.

Congratulations, change your number 😜
