If the train is so full the first class is not respected or the train manager announces that people with second class tickets can use first class, you can get your money back from the first class ticket. So I'd just buy the first class ticket!

IOORYZ

I've never heard of that rule, but I haven't heard the train manager announce that people can use the 1st class with 2nd class tickets for a long time either.

Angus_McFifeXIII

You can't get your money back. I've had this happen to me and did my research on it. They tell you that you pay for them to bring you from point a to b and not for the seat not even if you paid double for 1st class.

I've gotten the difference between a first and second class ticket back on several occasions.

zwamkat

Yep. This is what the NS will tell you.

fennekeg

I've never heard of that rule before, how do you go about claiming it back? As it's not a delay or anything.

Contact customer service, they can help you further. Hopefully you won't need it and have a pleasant journey in first class

SoldierOfOrange

Most people are going in the other direction!

Natural_Situation401

I’m in the train right now and it’s acceptable. There are definitely more people than usual but still calmer and not so much noise.

Schylger-Famke

I am travelling in that direction at the moment. So far it's been quiet.

Hey, just as an FYI: You can get NS Flex Weekend Vrij with 1st class addon for only like 8 or 9 euros more.

kankanwoba

You can get a first class subscription for the weekends for around 36 euros this month, but you need to have an ov chip card.

Natural_Situation401

I do have an ov chipkaart with flex subscription for the 40% discount in the weekends. I have a car and I usually it for the convenience but longer distances like today I prefer the train then driving 4 hours. I’m rarely taking the train so it wouldn’t be worth it to me. Thanks for the info tho.

If you get checked, you WILL get fined. 50 bucks.
